The Harley-Davidson Pan America was the talk of the town ever since it was introduced early this year.

The adventure motorcycle was Harley’s first attempt to expand its wings to uncharted territories in an effort to reach a wider audience apart from its classic line of cruisers.

The American company introduced two versions of the motorcycle; the Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special, both ran by the liquid-cooled Revolution Max V-Twin engine capable of generating 150 horses.

While it is an exciting motorcycle by the looks of it (since we have yet to test it out), the company CEO, Jochen Zeitz, claimed that the Pan America 1250 Special is now the no.1 best selling adventure motorcycle in North America.

“Taking inspiration from our heritage, we wanted to create a motorcycle that redefined the adventure touring category and most importantly was designed and built in America.

“With the Pan America Special now the #1 selling ADV motorcycle model in North America, we targeted a selective expansion into adventure touring as part of the Hardwire Strategy with the goal to reach new and existing Harley-Davidson customers.

“Pan America is squarely built on our mission to deliver a timeless pursuit of adventure for our riders.

“Those who now own or have tested one of our Pan America’s absolutely love this bike – having sold out of our 2021 allocation, we are excited about what the future has in store for Pan America and for the Adventure Touring category at Harley-Davidson,” he said.

That is a bold statement indeed; however, this is where it got interesting because the American brand did not back that claim with any numbers.

While Harley-Davidson might just be pulling a stunt, the brand is clearly putting in substantial effort to reinvent itself.

The Pan America and the newly launched Sportster S (despite the ridiculous tyre size) could spell the start of an exciting journey for the Milwaukee brand.

Harley-Davidson recorded higher sales for Q2 2021 compared to the same period last year.

The Milwaukee-based company recorded a 24 per cent increased in sales thanks to an impressive 43 per cent sales for Q2 in North America.

North America recorded the only positive numbers, as sales in Europe, Middle East and Africa are down by 7 per cent for the same period, whereas the Asia Pacific and Latin America witnessed a 13 per cent and 31 per cent decline.

Nonetheless, Harley-Davidson bike sales are up 18 per cent for the first half of 2021.

According to the American company, the declining sales is due to the dealer reduction and the discontinuation of the Street and Sportster models in certain regions.

However, Harley forecasts growth between 30 to 35 per cent at the end of 2021 thanks to the introduction of new models such as the Pan America 1250 and the recently launched Sportster S.

Harley-Davidson first unveiled the 1250 Custom in July 2018, a concept motorcycle dubbed to be the heir to the throne of the ageing Sporster range.

Three years later, the Milwaukee-based company finally unveiled the finished product with the 2021 Sportster S.

The new Sportster S set to take the world by storm thanks to the acclaimed 1250 Revolution Max, a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1,252cc V-Twin powerplant capable of producing 121hp and 127Nm.

In an effort to make the riding experience even better, the Sportster comes with variable valve timing (VVT) and self-adjusting lifters, the same function available on the Pan America.

According to Harley-Davidson, the powertrain also function as a stressed member, thus eliminating the traditional frame, which significantly reduces motorcycle weight to just 227kg and results in a very stiff chassis that contributes to precise handling.

The Sportster also comes equipped with a preload-adjustable Showa (piggyback) rear shock connected to the steel trellis swingarm and a fully adjustable 43mm Showa upside/down fork.

A four-piston Brembo radial calliper handles the braking with a 320mm disc at the front and a two-piston Brembo calliper at the rear with a 260mm disc.

Harley’s even generous enough to fit the motorcycle with a six-axis IMU that offers cornering enhance antilock brakes, enhanced traction control, Drag-Torque Slip Control System, and tire-pressure monitoring system.

To complete the 21st-century features, the Sportster S sport a spherical 4″ TFT instrument, all-around LED-lighting, three riding modes with two custom setups and Bluetooth connectivity.

Other notable functions include:

  • two dedicated power points for pre-wired heated grips
  • USB-C port
  • cruise control
  • temperature sensor
  • 12L tank

The all-new Sportster S is available in Vivid Black, Stone Washed White Pearl, and Midnight Crimson and is available at a starting price of USD14,999 (RM63k).

Harley-Davidson recently presents the company newest electric initiative with LiveWire as a standalone brand that now focused on building electric mobility.

LiveWire will now take on the industry with its own LiveWire One, a full-blown electric motorcycle that carried Harley-Davidson legacy into the future.

Available for pre-order via LiveWire.com at a price of USD21,999 (RM92k), the LiveWire One offers all the latest features on a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, HD claimed that the One offers the same 105hp and 117Nm found on the 2020 LiveWire, followed by a top speed of 177km/h.

Underneath the chassis sits a 15.4kWh battery unit that offers a range of around 230km, which we think is commendable for an electric bike.

According to HD, it can charge from zero to 80 per cent in 40 minutes or 100 per cent within an hour with a DC fast charger.

Other exciting features include:

  • Show Big Piston separate function front fork
  • Showa balance free cushion-lite monoshock
  • 17″ cast-aluminium wheels
  • dual 4-piston (radial) Brembo monoblock callipers (front)
  • 2-piston single disc setup (rear)

Despite being an electric motorcycle, the bike is equipped with what Harley’s refers to as a ‘heartbeat, that sends a vibration to the rider to mimic the feel of a combustion engine. Pretty cool, eh?

Just months after successfully unveiling the all-new Pan America, Harley-Davidson plans to introduce another new model.

The new model will be launch on July 13 as the next in line to be powered by the all-new Revolution Max engine.

According to Harley’s CEO, Jochen Zeitz, while the Pan America is an ADV behemoth, the new model will be on the sportier side.

“Following the successful launch of our first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America, we are excited to reveal another all-new motorcycle, built on the Revolution Max platform in the sports segment, showcasing unmatched Harley-Davidson technology, performance and style.”

There is no confirmation on how the new model will look, but we can assume it will portray the company’s DNA of making it a “proper” Harley-Davidson.

LiveWire reportedly will introduce its first electric model with the name LiveWire One in July.

For those who are not in the loop, LiveWire is a spin-off electric brand from Harley-Davidson that was inspired by the company first electric motorcycle, the LiveWire (obviously).

According to reports, LiveWire has submitted the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with the launch scheduled at July 8.

According to the VIN documents, the LiveWire One will have a power output of 101hp, 4hp less than the Harley-Davidson LiveWire.

However, the VIN filing did not reveal further details except the claimed horsepower.

Nonetheless, we are excited to see how will the LiveWire One turn out to be.

Harley-Davidson has officially launched ‘LiveWire’ as an all-electric motorcycle brand in an effort to push for electric mobility.

Interestingly, the American company has done so by naming the brand after Harley’s first electric two-wheeler, the LiveWire unveiled in 2019.

Despite announcing to create a separate electric motorcycle division last February, the decision to name it ‘LiveWire’ came as a surprise.

According to Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz, LiveWire will pioneer the future of two-wheels.

“We are seizing the opportunity to lead and define the market in EV.

“With the mission to be the most desirable electric motorcycle brand in the world, LiveWire will pioneer the future of motorcycling for the pursuit of urban adventure and beyond.

“LiveWire also plans to innovate and develop technology that will be applicable to Harley-Davidson electric motorcycles in the future,” he said.

LiveWire will reveal its first model as early as July 8 2021, at the International Motorcycle Show in Irvine, California.

EU lawmakers have proposed a 56 per cent trade tariff to be imposed on imported Harley-Davidson motorcycles from the United States.

Taking effect on June 1, the ruling is seen as a second major blow to Harley-Davidson as the EU already placed a 25 per cent total tariff in 2018 on motorcycles imported into Europe from the USA.

Previously, Harley managed to escape the higher levies place in 2018 by shifting some of its motorcycle production to Thailand.

This allowed the Milwaukee-based company to imports its motorcycle into Europe via Belgium at a lower 6 per cent tariff.

However, the European Commission said that the “loophole” would not work this time around.

According to Daniel Ferrie, the EU has requested Belgium to revoke the decision as Harley-Davidson production in Thailand fell foul of “Binding Origin Information” rules.

“This (Belgian) decision was examined by the European Commission, and it proved that the decision was incorrect. We have therefore requested Belgium to revoke this incorrect decision.

“The reason why it was proven to be incorrect was that there was a change in location of production of the motorbikes in question,” he said.

The 56 per cent tariff move couldn’t come at a worse time as Harley-Davidson is scheduled to introduce the all-new Pan America in the UK next month.

It has been two years since the news broke out about Harley-Davidson announced a collaboration with the Chinese brand Qianjiang Motor (QJ Motor).

The agreement sees the two produce a small-displacement and affordable motorcycle for the Asian market.

Fast forward to 2021, a new image of a cruiser recently made its way online, and it looked suspiciously familiar.

Dubbed the Qianjiang SRV300, the motorcycle is scheduled to be on sale in China but will be rebadged as a Harley-Davidson for other Asian markets.

According to reports, the SRV300 is powered by a 296cc V-twin capable of producing 30hp and was inspired by Harley’s Iron 883 with a teardrop tank, single-seat, round headlamps and extended rear fender.
