Once again, KL Bike Week returns for its 2015 edition. Organisers Red Garage Malaysia is hosting the annual two-wheeled soiree in the grounds of Lanai MaTIC off Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. The two-day event starts today and will run until tomorrow (Dec 19).

This year, KL Bike Week 2015 organisers have arranged with city officials to have parts of Jalan Ampang leading towards the event grounds closed the hopes of making things easier for bikers coming in and out. Worry not as you can still visit the event by taking a train to either KLCC or Dang Wangi as both stations are just 10-minute walks from Lanai MaTIC. You can refer to the map we’ve attached below.

Another key highlight of the event this year besides the mass show of all things two wheeled are the presence of several local bands tasked at providing the event’s soundtrack from its main stage. Of course, the main highlight of the roster this year is none other than legendary local rock band Wings who will headline the stage on Saturday evening.

We took a tour in the early hours of the event earlier today to see what you can expect from KL Bike Week 2015 (#KLBW2015).

KLBW_2015_Day1_

First of all, you’ll see plenty of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Much of the local Malaysian Harley-Davidson owners community will be present in full force.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-5

KL Bike Week is also a mecca for many custom bike owners and enthusiasts. You’ll see them at every corner and perhaps resting under a tree like this threesome.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-3

KL Bike Week is also the perfect place to hunt for bargains. Plenty of vendors are present here offering various things from souvenirs to apparels, as well as various bike parts, riding gear, not to mention services as well such as on-site bike detailing.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-4

The amount of kits on sale are impressive too, and would please just about any DIY biker buff. What caught our attention today was this, the VOLO Advance Braking Indication system.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-10

However, should you fancy some of the finer things the two-wheeled world can offer, you can also indulge in artisan crafts. This selection of custom-made helmets and wood paintings made by Indonesian bike artisans Riders Rules are one example.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-8

Should you be the type who’s always carrying a cheque book in your pocket with a finer taste for bikes, then you might just find yourself oogling over some rarities up for sale by specialist importers present. We absolutely love this Ducati Paul Smart we found on display by specialist importers Sri Changgong Sdn Bhd.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-7

Besides that, Sri Changgong’s collection also includes a range of classic Japanese GP-derived two-stroke sports bikes. The Yamaha RZV 500R and the two TZRs next to it have indeed reignited our love for two-strokers.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-6

Sadly though, some bikes you’ll see on the grounds of KL Bike Week 2015 aren’t for sale, like this rare Honda NM4 Vultus maxi-scooter. Yes, you read that right, this blacked-out thing is a SCOOTER. And beleive it or not, it is taking all the limelight away from the blacked-out MV Agusta parked next to it.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-12

Of course, KL Bike Week isn’t all about two-wheels. There are plenty of independent food vendors and stalls or gerai with a rich selection of F&B. Even bikers need to fuel up too, and so should you.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-9

Our visit during the early hours today was short, so no sights of massive biker groups mingling around just yet. But this bloke walking around with a fiesty-looking parrot on his shoulder was interesting to say the least.

KLBW_2015_Day1_-11

Also making an appearance is the 1Malaysia custom cruiser built by the famed Orange County Choppers. Was this budgeted using the hotly contested RM2.6 billion? Hmmm…

KLBW_2015_Day1_-13

Got the need for speed? Well then, let BikesRepublic.com and Shell Advance remedy that for you virtually! Yes, we are present this year together with our partners Shell Advance Malaysia and you can win exclusive prizes in our simulator tournament just by visiting our booth!

KLBW_2015_Day1_-2

So? What are you waiting for? Come on down tonight and experience some of the best of Malaysian motorcycling at its finest!

See you at KL Bike Week 2015 folks!

We were at EICMA 2015, and this are our favourite moments from the biggest motorcycle on earth. We will be there again next year, we suggest you do too.

Naza Prestige Bikes Sdn Bhd, the authorised Malaysian importer and distributor of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, marked a major milestone when it launched its latest full-fledge 3S centre in Johor Bahru today.

Present during the launch were several top tier executives of the Naza Group led by group executive chairman Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin. Also present here were Harley-Davidson Asia Emerging Markets’ managing director Peter Mackenzie.

HRH Sultan ibrahim

Of course, no major milestone in the soutern state of Johore is complete without the approval of HRH Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of Johore. Sultan Ibrahim was present during a specially organised private launch ceremony and tour held prior to the scheduled press launch later in the afternoon.

The new Harley-Davidson 3S centre is located just next to Ducati Johore in the heart of Johor Bahru along Jalan Dato’ Abdullah Tahir. The two-storey facility measures roughly 470 square meters for each floor. Inside, it houses two state-of-the-art service work bays, a large showroom display area, a Parts & Accessories store, an official Harley-Davidson merchandise and apparels boutique, as well as customer waiting lounges.

The opening of Harley-Davidson of Johor Bahru was aimed at further enhancing the famed American brand’s presence in the peninsula’s southern region. It now joins in the brand’s Malaysian network along with the main Harley-Davidson of Kuala Lumpur flagship store in Petaling Jaya and Harley-Davidson of Penang.

Harley-Davidson of Johor Bahru Launch

First unveiled at the 2013 EICMA International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan, Italy following its debut in the Marvel blockbuster ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’, the Harley-Davidson Street 750, which is the brand’s new entry level model, finally made its debut here after much anticipation in April. Unlike the rest of the models in the stable, Naza Prestige Bikes, the authorised distributors of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in Malaysia said that the Street 750 is aimed at a new target audience for the brand here, specifically younger urban riders.

Street 13Another highlight about the Street 750 is that it is assembled in India, and is targeted towards markets where big bikes are booming, namely India itself, China, and the South East Asian region. When the Street 750 was launched at Harley-Davidson Kuala Lumpur showroom at the Naza Automall in Petaling Jaya, Naza Prestige Bikes also introduced a Naza World Customs programme which allows owners to dress up their Street 750 any way they like it. Not one or two, but four customised examples were exhibited at the launch just to give us an idea on what can be done to the bike for about RM6,000.

Street 15 However, the test unit which we got our hands on last month was the base model with a few aftermarket additions such as the Screamin’ Eagle exhausts, special rims, panniers, as well as a pillion backrest. Powering the Street 750 is Harley-Davidson’s new Revolution X 750cc liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-Twin engine which produces 56 hp at 8,000 rpm and 59 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm, mated to a six-speed belt-drive transmission. The first thing we noticed after sitting on the Street 750 was that the seat is positioned quite low at 720mm. In addition, the fuel tank is also low-slung, making the bike feel very short as the rider’s knees were protruding above the tank while riding, but it was not a bad thing though.

Street 6Once we started rolling, the bike felt super comfortable, and due to the low centre of gravity, the bike could be manoeuvred easily without breaking a sweat. However, after about an hour of riding, the rider’s buttocks did want to call it a day, due to the slanting sitting position. What we loved most about the Street 750 is its engine. The output figures might not seem like a big deal on paper but believe us when we say that this thing delivers massive amount of low-end torque. Throughout our stint with the bike, it was a case of “just ask and you shall receive” with the throttle. Power was just delivered instantly and so smoothly that before we knew it, we were clocking speed that could’ve got us into trouble with the authorities.

Street 5 Regardless of whether we were leaving a traffic light or needed to overtake vehicle, the engine and the six-speed gearbox could be worked easily, with light and precise shifts, which was something quite surprisingly unlikely for a Harley-Davidson. Now, those who are familiar with Harleys know for a fact that smooth gear shifting is not something that these bikes are known for. However, in the case of the Street 750, the company has done a good job in getting it right; ideal for beginners.

Street 4 As enjoyable as it was to ride the Street 750, it didn’t feel like any other Harley Davidson we’ve ridden before. While we’re all used to the loud, thumping exhaust note capable of waking up a whole neighborhood, the Revolution-X engine was much quieter than what we had expected. Besides that, it was much smoother than other Harleys as well. Although these new characteristics are exactly what Harley needs to help build a pool of future motorcyclists, they might not appeal to the purists.

Street 7 It was also quite practical for an entry-level model, as it comes with a 13-litre fuel tank, and could be fitted with saddlebags without making the bike look hideous, unlike the Sportster (which was the cheapest Harley-Davidson before the Street 750) that failed miserably in the practicality department. Overall, the Street 750 still had its shortcomings. For instance, the brakes felt too spongy and lacked bite. And then, there were the wires and cables that exposed behind the headlamp, and parts like the fuel cap that felt flimsy.

Street 14 If these things could be improved, the Street 750 would do more justice to the RM62,888 it is asking for, in our humble opinion. Besides that, things were fine and dandy with the bike. If you’re a beginner and are in pursuit of a middleweight cruiser that offers a world of customization options, the Street 750 may just be the right bike for you.

Harley-Davidson finally unveiled its much anticipated 2016 model year lineup last week, which will see the addition of a few new models, namely the Dark Custom Iron 883, Dark Custom Forty-Eight, the Softail Slim S, Fat Boy S, and of course, the return of the Road Glide Ultra.

Powered by the 883cc Evolution V-twin, the Iron 883 is intentionally raw and comes with clipped fenders, blacked-out powertrain and exhaust, drag-style handlebars and a solo tuck-and-roll seat cover. Other styling elements include a ribbed air cleaner cover and bullet-hole details on the belt guard, exhaust shields and front fender brace. Handling is improved by new cast aluminum black wheels with machined highlights that reduce unsprung weight by about 5kg. Ride quality gets a boost with a new cartridge-style fork and new emulsion rear shocks with progressive-rate springs and a threaded pre-load adjustment collar.

As for the 2016 Forty Eight, it rolls on a fat 130mm front tire suspended by a new 49mm cartridge fork and accented by a chopped fender. The classic 2.1-gallon peanut fuel features horizontal stripes, a throw-back to 1970s style that’s repeated in the seat stitching, slotted exhaust shields, rear sprocket and belt guard. New lightweight cast-aluminum wheels feature nine split spokes and a solid black finish with machined highlights. A side-mount license plate and combination stop/tail/turn signals keep the rear fender uncluttered.

And then we have the S Series limited-edition cruisers—the Fat Boy S and Softail Slim S, which are powered by the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine. Restyled with minimal bright work, the new S Series models offer tough curb appeal, as well as electronic cruise control, ABS and the H-D Factory Security System as standard equipment. The Softail Slim S has a classic, lean bobber style, and its Twin Cam 110 features the Screamin’ Eagle Stage 1 high-flow intake with optimized jet-black over/under dual shotgun mufflers.

On the Fat Boy S, the Twin Cam 110 engine has the Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator intake and optimized jet-black over/under dual shotgun mufflers. It rolls on bullet-hole aluminum disc wheels and features a massive headlamp and nacelle, half-moon rider footboards and a classic five-gallon Fat Bob fuel tank. Slammed suspension and a low-slung seat put the rider just 24.25 inches off the pavement.

Following a two-year absence from the Harley-Davidson Touring line, the Road Glide Ultra has been updated with enhanced style, comfort and performance, all part of the multi-year, customer-led Project Rushmore product development effort. It features improved aerodynamics, optimized touring ergonomics and the power of the Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 V-twin.

The 2016 Road Glide Ultra features all of the Project Rushmore enhancements, including a stout 49mm fork, Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS, sleeker fenders, lighter Enforcer cast aluminum wheels, improved instrument graphics and hand controls. Standard equipment includes cruise control and the BOOM! Box 6.5GT infotainment system with color touch screen, GPS and Bluetooth capability.

16-Harley-Road-Glide-Ultra

The Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 engine combines air cooling and precision liquid cooling to maintain peak performance under the most demanding loads and riding conditions, with 10.7 percent more peak torque than the standard Twin Cam 103 engine.

Passenger accommodations are more generous and restyled luggage includes sleeker hard saddlebags and a new Tour-Pak shape that offers 4 percent more capacity than the previous design.

SAHUR 1

Initiated in 2008, Harley-Davidson’s World Ride event is an occasion where thousands of owners from around the world hit the open road on the same day, in order to celebrate the pure feelings of joy and freedom they get via riding their motorcycles.

SAHUR 2

The event, which was initially a one-day affair, has grown into a two-day occasion over the years due to the overwhelming support and response shown by “hogs” worldwide.

SAHUR 7

With “Just Ride” as the theme, this year’s installation of the Harley-Davidson World Ride took place on the 27th and 28th of June. In an effort to be a part of the event, and also to welcome the festive season, Harley-Davidson Kuala Lumpur (HDKL) and NAZA World organised a Sahur Ride on the 27th June from Petaling Jaya to Port Dickson.

SAHUR 4

A total of 500 motorcycles, comprising owners from almost every state in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as neighboring nations such as Thailand, and Singapore, were part of the Harley-Davidson Sahur Ride which was flagged off at 11pm on the 26th of June.
