BMW has recently unveiled its plans for the upcoming 2024-spec motorcycle models for the US market. While the highly anticipated reveal of entirely new models is scheduled for September 28 in Berlin, BMW enthusiasts have been treated to a sneak peek of what’s to come.

  • several 2024 models to gain Intelligent Emergency Call feature.
  • The new feature is set to enhance rider’s safety.

The 2024 lineup features a range of refreshed models, boasting new colors, option packages, and a groundbreaking addition, the Intelligent Emergency Call feature.

Among the motorcycles set to receive this cutting-edge technology are the R 1250 range, R 18 B and Transcontinental, S 1000 R and RR, and the CE 04. Furthermore, buyers of the F 900 R and XR will have the option to add the Intelligent Emergency Call system at an additional cost.

The highlight of this update is the introduction of the Intelligent Emergency Call system, which will now come standard on several 2024 models. This innovative feature is designed to enhance rider safety and provide a swift response in emergency situations. The system includes a prominent red “SOS” button located on the left-hand bar end, protected by a convenient flip-up cover.

In the event of an emergency, riders can simply press the “SOS” button to initiate a call to BMW Motorrad Connected Services. Once connected, riders will be in direct contact with an agent who can promptly contact the necessary emergency services if the situation requires it. The Intelligent Emergency Call feature can also automatically activate if the motorcycle detects a fall or crash through built-in sensors.

The introduction of the Intelligent Emergency Call system showcases BMW’s commitment to incorporating advanced technologies into their motorcycles to prioritize rider safety. By providing riders with a reliable and immediate means of requesting assistance in critical situations, BMW aims to enhance the overall riding experience and instill a sense of confidence and security.

BMW is making strides in motorcycle technology with the development of illuminated winglets, according to their latest patent.

  • This innovation could potentially be incorporated into future BMW Motorrad models, including the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R.
  • The illuminated aero is aimed at reducing weight whilst enhancing visibility.

Currently, BMW’s S 1000 RR and M 1000 RR motorcycles feature turn signals integrated into their mirrors, eliminating the need for additional protrusions on the sides of the bike.

However, this solution adds weight and cost. By utilizing the winglets as turn signals, BMW aims to reduce weight and improve cost-efficiency. The LED strips in the winglets have a lower and more forward mass distribution, providing a slight advantage in terms of weight distribution.

The illuminated winglets serve a dual purpose, combining daytime running lights (DRLs) and turn signals. When the turn signals are not in use, the DRLs remain illuminated, turning off on one side only when the turn signal is activated.

This arrangement enhances visibility, especially in low-light conditions, making the motorcycle more noticeable to oncoming traffic. The wider separation of the DRLs defines the bike’s widest part, allowing for easier estimation of its speed.

In addition to the lighting elements, BMW’s patent also includes a projector light mounted on the lower surface of the winglets. This light is designed to project a puddle of light onto the ground, similar to the puddle lights found in cars. This feature enhances visibility when stopped, providing a better view of the surface on which the motorcycle’s sidestand is placed.

The patent even suggests the possibility of incorporating a transparent liquid-crystal display into the projector light, allowing for customizable patterns to be projected onto the ground.

While the primary purpose of the winglets is aerodynamic, BMW’s lighting innovation could prove to be more advantageous for riders in terms of safety. With the combination of enhanced visibility and the projection of light onto the ground, these illuminated winglets could offer significant benefits to motorcyclists in the future.

Recent findings from Swiss and Australian homologation documents have shed light on the specifications of the upcoming 2024 BMW R 1300 GS.

  • latest homologation data from Australia suggest that the next generation GS is lighter than expected.
  • the new R 1300 GS likely to features lighter bodywork to enhance performance and agility.

The Swiss certification data initially indicated a weight of 335 kilograms, including the weight of a 75-kilogram rider and accessories. However, a closer examination suggested that the actual weight of the motorcycle would be around 250 kilograms, only slightly heavier than the previous R 1250 GS.

Now thanks to latest digging by Dennis Chung of Motorcycle.com, fresh homologation data from Australia has now provided further insights into the R 1300 GS’s weight. The Australian documents list the tare mass, excluding the rider and accessories, at 237 kilograms. BMW’s previous models, such as the S 1000 RR and the R 1250 RS, had claimed curb weights that matched their tare masses in Australia.

Based on this information, it is reasonable to assume that BMW will claim a curb weight of 237 kilograms for the new R 1300 GS. This would make it 12 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, the R 1250 GS, which has a curb weight of 249 kilograms. Furthermore, the R 1300 GS would also be 7 kilograms lighter than the F 850 GS Adventure, although the F 850 GSA’s larger fuel tank would contribute to its overall mass.

The anticipated weight reduction in the R 1300 GS suggests that BMW has focused on enhancing performance and agility, appealing to adventure motorcyclists seeking a lighter and more nimble ride. Enthusiasts eagerly await the official announcement of the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS, which is expected to impress with its power-to-weight ratio and innovative features.

BMW Motorrad has given enthusiasts an early glimpse of their highly anticipated M 1000 XR prototype. This latest addition to the M model lineup is designed to meet the demands of riders seeking high-performance, long-distance capabilities, both on the road and the race track.

  • Dominik Blass, the Product Manager, describes it as a fusion between the current S 1000 XR, S 1000 RR, and M 1000 RR models.
  • The M 1000 XR aims to fulfill the desires of customers who crave performance, exclusivity, and individuality.

This prototype showcases BMW Motorrad’s successful strategy of incorporating the renowned M brand, known for its racing success and high-performance automobiles, into their motorcycle range. With the introduction of the M RR and the M R in recent years, the M 1000 XR further solidifies their commitment to offering independent M models.

At its core, the M 1000 XR features an inline four-cylinder engine derived from the S 1000 RR superbike. Utilizing BMW’s innovative ShiftCam technology, this powerplant delivers over 200hp of raw power.

Despite its impressive performance, the M 1000 XR boasts a remarkably weight of just 223kg when fully fuelled. Combined with purpose-built chassis technology, aerodynamics, and advanced control electronics, the M XR blurs the line between long-distance touring and track-oriented racing motorcycles.

For those seeking even greater performance, BMW offers the optional M Competition Package, providing additional weight reduction and enhanced riding dynamics. The prototype’s top speed reaches an impressive 280 km/h.

Aerodynamics played a crucial role in the development of the M XR prototype. Equipped with winglets, the motorcycle achieves superior stability at high speeds, thanks to increased downforce.

This translates into improved traction and reduced wheelie tendencies during acceleration. The rider benefits from better contact between the wheels and the road, resulting in quicker lap times. The ergonomics of the M XR’s seating position also contribute to enhanced bike control, particularly in supersport mode.

Drawing from their expertise in racing, BMW incorporated the M brake system into the M XR. The M brake calipers feature a signature blue anodized coating, echoing the brand’s distinctive logo. This technology, derived from BMW Motorrad’s Superbike World Championship racing machines, ensures optimal braking performance in both race track and performance modes.

BMW Motorrad plans to release further details on the BMW M 1000 XR in the second half of 2023, building anticipation for what promises to be a remarkable addition to the sports motorbike segment

The teaser image features a black-and-white profile, depicting a stylized drawing that unmistakably bears the distinct XR appearance and prominently displays the iconic M logo on the tank. Adding fuel to the fire, BMW Motorrad accompanied the image with a caption inviting followers to guess the forthcoming surprise and announcing the unveiling time as 5 p.m. CEST on June 6. The hashtags #MakeLifeARide and #NeverStopChallenging further amplify the anticipation surrounding the announcement.

In a remarkable coincidence, the 2023 Isle of Man TT commenced on May 29, and BMW is participating with a factory effort. Renowned riders Peter Hickman and Josh Brookes, alongside the FHO Racing BMW team, are racing factory-outfitted M 1000 RRs in both the road racing and British Superbikes series.

Fueling speculation further, a video captured Peter Hickman performing a test run at the Isle of Man TT, presumably astride the forthcoming M 1000 XR. Several up-close photos of the highly anticipated machine have also emerged, tantalizing fans who eagerly await its official unveiling.
