The sixth BMW Motorrad Malaysia Night Fuel Kuala Lumpur lifestyle event was a rousing success
Held at the Sungai Besi Royal Malaysia Air Force base, it saw the congregation of hundreds of BMW motorcycle owners and fans.
BMW Motorrad Malaysia also launched the F 850 GS Adventure, R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure.

The sixth BMW Motorrad Malaysia Night Fuel Kuala Lumpur lifestyle event was a rousing success.

It was held in Kuala Lumpur this time after touring the country throughout the year. Held at the Sungai Besi Royal Malaysia Air Force base, it saw the congregation of hundreds of BMW motorcycle owners and fans.

Night Fuel celebrates the bonding of BMW owners under one roof, over BMW motorcycles, food and great music.

As per tradition, BMW Motorrad Malaysia introduced three new models in Malaysia. There were the much-awaited F 850 GS Adventure, R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure. The R 1250 GS and its Adventure brethren are the most important models of the night as the form the backbone of BMW Motorrad sales. But it wasn’t a case of “another GS” as the R 1250 features a new, bigger engine that’s equipped with variable valve timing technology called “ShiftCam.”

On the entertainment front, Malaysian rock legend, Amy Search got the crowd on their feet along with the band who went through an entire playlist of classic rock songs.

Another tradition was the lucky draw. A lucky attendee went home with a new BMW G 310 GS tonight.

They were launch at the BMW Motorrad Night Fuel Kuala Lumpur lifestyle event.
The R 1250 GS line-up features the new 1254cc Boxer with ShiftCam Technology.

BMW Motorrad Malaysia launched the 2019 BMW R 1250 GS, BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, BMW F 850 GS Adventure here tonight at the BMW Motorrad Malaysia Night Fuel Kuala Lumpur lifestyle event.

All three models are eagerly awaited by BMW and adventure fans, more so since they have been upgraded for more performance from the engine and chassis.

2019 BMW F 850 GS Adventure (GSA) – From 88,500

The F 850 GS Adventure (GSA) expands the F 850 GS’s already impressive touring and adventure capabilities. Owners can expect greater range and off-road riding capability.

Highlights:

853cc, 8-valve, DOHC, parallel-Twin.
The crankshaft is revised to feature a 90^ospacing to mimic a 90^oV-Twin, instead of the 360^ocrank in the F 800 GS.
The new 270^o/450^oignition timing provides smoother torque and less vibration.
The new engine delivers 95 hp @ 8,250 RPM and 92 Nm of torque at 6,250 RPM.
Power is transferred to the transmission through a slipper clutch.
The instrument cluster consists of a 6.5-inch TFT screen.
There are two power/ride modes: ROAD and RAIN.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Automatic Stability Control (ASC) are standard.
Front forks are upsided-down with 230 mm travel.
Rear shock is adjustable for preload and rebound and has 215 mm travel.
Front wheel is 21-inches, rear is 17-inches.

As with BMW’s Adventure variants, fuel is expanded to 23 litres.

2019 BMW R 1250 GS – From RM 116,500

Development of the BMW R 1250 GS was eagerly followed the world over, especially when it was revealed that it will feature a new, larger engine with variable valve timing. Indeed, the ShiftCam Technology boosts the new engine’s performance while retaining fuel economy and the classic BMW Boxer character.

Highlights:

1254cc, 8-valve, DOHC, horizontally-opposed-Twin (Boxer) with BMW ShiftCam Technology.
The new engine produces 136 hp at 7,750 RPM and 143 Nm of torque at 6,250 RPM.
There are now two knock sensors allowing use of fuel less than RON 95.
The instrument cluster consists of a 6.5-inch TFT screen.
There are two power/ride modes: ROAD and RAIN.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Automatic Stability Control (ASC) are standard.
Also, standard is Hill Start Control.
Suspension is via Dynamic ESA “Next Generation” with fully-automatic load compensation.
Optional Riding Modes Pro includes Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, Hill Start Control Pro, and Dynamic Brake Assistant (DBC).

2019 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure – From RM 125,500

In addition to the R 1250 GS’s specifications, the R 1250 GS Adventure includes model specific features for longer range and adventure riding.

Highlights:

Longer travel suspension – 210 mm front and 220 mm rear vs. 190 mm/200 mm on the GS.
30-litre usable fuel capacity vs. 20 litres on the GS.
268 kg ready to ride weight vs. the GS’s 249 kg.
Priced from RM 125,500 and from RM 127,500 for the Style HP colour scheme.

The duo will ride from South America to California.
What bikes will they ride this time around?

It’s confirmed: Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor will begin shooting Long Way Up soon.

If there is one, well okay, two TV programmes that brought motorcycle adventure touring into the limelight are Long Way Round and its sequel Long Way Down.

Some overland riders even quoted the programs as inspiration to them taking up touring. There’s also a claim that the sales of the BMW R 1100 GS and subsequent BMW R 1200 GS shot up after the show.

According to ADV Pulse, Boorman confirmed the shoot during an interview in the Bike Shed Show in London. “I’m doing the Long Way Up for sure, with Ewan,” he said. “We are going from South America to Los Angeles. So South America, Central America, Mexico and then Los Angeles and we are going to start that in a few months’ time.” Specific route plans have yet to be confirmed, however.

Another question is on what bikes the duo will be riding this time. Boorman is the ambassador for Triumph, while McGregor was recently named the ambassador for the Moto Guzzi V85TT. That said, could the former ride the Triumph Tiger 800 XCx/XCa? Or the Tiger 1200? (This writer personally hopes for the Tiger 800 XCx/XCa.)

Harley-Davidson Partners with Qianjiang to Build Smaller Capacity Models

Harley-Davidson confirmed that they have partnered with Qianjiang Motorcycle Company to produce smaller displacement models for Asia.
The new model will a 338cc engine.
Qianjiang is the brand custodian of Benelli motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson confirmed that they have partnered with Qianjiang Motorcycle Company to produce smaller displacement models.

It was speculated earlier that Harley-Davidson will partner an Indian manufacturer for the purpose, but it had turned out to be a Chinese maker, after all. The bikes be distributed in China and throughout the Asian region.

The two partners also revealed that the first model will have a 338cc. It will first be released in China, followed by the rest of Asia.

The bike will be labelled as “Designed by Harley-Davidson” and built by Qianjiang in China. They will also build the engine.

But who the heck is Qianjiang Motorcycle Company, you ask? They are the custodians of the Benelli brand which has quite a following here in Malaysia and Europe.

The move is due to the Motor Company’s belief that China will spearhead the brand’s growth in the Asian region. Harley’s CEO Matt Levatich hopes to see 50% growth in the overseas market by 2027.

Harley also showed off the rendered image of the bike which closely resembles the XR1200.

Production continues for the bike as there is a steady demand.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has announced attractive updates for the 2019 Yamaha 135 LC.

The Yamaha 135 LC was a gamechanger in the underbone i.e. kapchai segment when it was first introduced in 2005. It was the first to include many new features at the time but the most significant was its liquid-cooled engine, hence the “LC” denomination.

The first generation 135 LC still holds a legendary reputation as being the fastest kapchai ever built, until the advent of 150cc competitors.

But the model is beating after more than a decade later. It’s still a model which fills the gap between the 110 to 125cc smaller kapchais to its bigger Yamaha Y15ZR brethren. One can still see many old and new 135 LCs around, especially among the Food Panda and GrabFood boys and gals (bless ‘em).

Hence, these and more provide reasons to continue production with upgrades and updates along the way.

For 2019, the engine remains untouched i.e. 135cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder mated to a 4-speed transmission with auto clutch. The changes are aesthetics to “freshen” up the bike.

The cosmetic changes are:

Additional horn cover.
Air scoops on both sides of the bodywork.
Additional under cowl panel.
New speedometer panel.

It’s offered in three colours, namely Comet Grey, Fiery Red and Storm Blue.

HLYM recommends the selling price at RM 6,868 (excluding registration and insurance). Buyers will receive an exclusive stainless steel Yamaha brake disc lock.

Ducati Malaysia launched the 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R, Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro, Ducati Multistrada 950 S, Ducati Hypermotard 950 S, Ducati Diavel 1260 S tonight.
All bikes cater to different segments for riders seeking different types of rides.
The crown jewel is the Panigale V4 R superbike.

Ducati Malaysia launched nine new motorcycles for 2019 tonight. They included the Ducati Panigale V4 R, Ducati Multistrada 1260 Enduro, Ducati Multistrada 950 S, Ducati Hypermotard 950 S, Ducati Diavel 1260 S and four Scrambler variants (please click here for the launch report).

All models have been highly anticipated since their launch late last year, more so the Panigale V4 R.

2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R – From RM 299,900

The Panigale V4 R is the homologation model for racing in the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK). The rules of the series require manufacturers to produce a certain number of specially-prepared variant that’s as close as possible to the race motorcycle and available to the public.

That’s where the Panigale V4 R fits in – being Ducati’s commitment to dominate WorldSBK that the factory once did. In other words, the Panigale V4 R is a pure race-ready road bike. Every part is designed for a purpose and none is superfluous.

Since its introduction in 2019 WorldSBK, Alvaro Bautista steered it to 9 race and 4 Superpole wins in six rounds. The Panigale V4 R’s stranglehold is so absolute that the organizers made Ducati cut the bike’s maximum rev limit.

The Multistrada 1260 Enduro expands the Multistrada 1260’s performance envelope to include off-road adventure riding.

The Enduro especially benefits from the 1262cc Testastretta DVT engine. The Desmodromic Variable Timing valve actuation system provides an ultra-smooth power and torque delivery, resulting in total rider confidence when riding in the rough.

Trans-Mongolia 2019, 65 Days of Amazing Adventure

The Trans-Mongolia 2019 adventure will cover 20,000 kilometres over 65 days through 11 countries.
It will push off on 21 August and end on 24 October in Paris, France.
There is a total of 12 bikes, supported by 4x4s.

How’s this for an epic motorcycle adventure? The Trans-Mongolia 2019 adventure will cover 20,000 kilometres over 65 days through 11 countries.

The adventure is organized by the group called 4×4 World Explorer which consists of hardcore adventure riders and 4×4 drivers. They’ve organized the Trans-Andes, Trans-Amazon, among others in the past.

The upcoming ride which will begin on 21^stAugust 2019 will ride through Thailand, Laos, and China before reaching Mongolia, hence the name. However, instead of turning back once they reach the country, the group will continue onwards through southern Russia (circumventing the Central Asian countries), Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and finally ending in Paris, France on 24^thOctober.

The bikes and 4x4s will then be shipped back to Malaysia.

Expedition Leader, Mr. Thomas Foo presented some of the details during the launch at the Explorer Outfitter outlet in Publika, Kuala Lumpur.

“It is like seeing seven different worlds in one ride,” he said. The riders will be supported by a number of 4x4s.

The 12 motorcycles are the BMW G 310 GS, sponsored by Tian Siang Motorrad in Ipoh, Perak. While they don’t seem much to some out there, the small capacity, single-cylinder bike is reliable and tough enough to stand up to the challenges during the trip. But in case anything breaks, it’s an easy fix compared to more complex models. Besides that, the lack of weight will soon be the rider’s best friend when the going gets tough. Would you prefer to ride on through or wrestle with a heavy bike? That’s why almost all world travelers including Anita Yusof opt for simple, lightweight bikes.

GIVI Asia Sdn. Bhd. also played their part by sponsoring touring equipment to the riders. It’s a huge list but here are some of them: X.01 Tourer adventure helmet, B32 Bold Advance top box, PWB02 waterproof waist pouch, CRS02.AX Comfort rain suit, VEST02 high-visibility vest, and a new, taller windscreen. KTM 790 Adventure R Rally Unveiled

An even more dirt-focused KTM 790 Adventure R Rally will be added to the model’s ranks.
It gets the best of KTM’s off-road parts including suspension.
Only 500 will be built for 2020.

The KTM 790 Adventure is touted as the company’s attempt to revolutionize the dual-purpose/adventure segment. Now, a third variant called the KTM 790 Adventure R Rally is added to the line-up.

Although all three variants are positioned deep in the adventure market, they were given distinctively different characteristics to suit riders of different disposition. The standard 790 Adventure is more road biased although it’s still very much an off-roader. The 790 Adventure R is the off-road biased variant for seasoned and skilled off-road riders. The 790 Adventure R Rally you see here is for the hardcore off-roader. Think of it as 18 SX, softcore and hardcore.

The Adventure R already has some of the best features for off-road riding, but the Adventure R Rally takes it even further.

Starting with the suspension, the Rally gets the WP XPLOR PRO 7548 forks with cone valve technology. The rear shock is a WP XPLOR PRO 6746 with a progressive damping system (PDS) setup. The change of suspension raises the seat height by another 30 mm over the Adventure R’s 880 mm to 910 mm. That’s dirt bike territory. The wheels are also narrower and uses inner tubes.

The package also includes KTM Quickshifter+ (for up- and downshifts), even flatter seat, rally footpegs and Akrapovic exhaust. There are also translucent deflectors beside the headlamp nacelle.

No price was provided, but KTM will build on 500 of these babies for the model year 2020.

Welly Assorted Sdn. Bhd. launched the Yamaha Y15ZR Ultraman Special Edition over the weekend.

This special edition is an initiative by Welly Assorted to deliver two legends in one, namely the Yamaha Y15ZR V2 and Ultraman. Welly’s boss knows that there are many Ultraman fans in the country. There are those who had grown up with the superhero, and those among the younger generation who are current fans. Hence this particular model is targeted at the age group between 25 to 40 years old.

The special edition is the result of a collaboration between Welly Assorted and Taigaco Sdn. Bhd. Taigaco is the licensing agent of the Ultraman characters and brand for Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brunei. Yamaha Y15ZR V2 Ultraman Special Edition is therefore a licensed product.

Boon Siew Honda launched the 2019 Honda CBR500R, Honda CB500X and Honda CB500F today to complement their big capacity range in Malaysia.

All three bikes are based on the same engine platform, namely a 471cc, DOHC, 8-valve, parallel-Twin. Honda engineers revised the inlet, exhaust and valve timing for a 4% increase in midrange power and torque. It now produces 49.6 HP at 8,500 RPM and 45 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM. The engine for better low-down torque, rather than high-end horsepower.

Standard features for the 2019 models are:

Anti-lock braking system (ABS).
New rear suspension.
Assist and slipper clutch.
Full LED lighting.
New LCD screen with gear position indicator and shift-up light.
Strong yet lightweight steel diamond-tube frame.
The frame is designed to provide the swingarm mounting point close to the engine for optimum weight distribution.
An added safety feature triggers the hazard lights in case of emergency braking.

2019 Honda CBR500R – From RM 34,499

The CBR500R is the fully-faired sportbike format of the range and features a styling inspired by the company’s CBR1000RR Fireblade. There are a number of model-specific features, of course, including winglets on the bottom half of the fairing.

The clip-on handlebars were repositioned to underneath the top triple clamp for a sportier riding position. The seats are stepped and split into two in true sportbike tradition.

The Honda CBR500R is available in three colours: Grand Prix Red, Max Axis Gray Metallic and Pearl Metalloid White.

2019 Honda CB500F – RM 33,999

The CB500F is the naked/roadster iteration in the line-up. It’s redesigned to appear more aggressive like a streetfighter buy integrating the radiator shrouds to the fuel tank for a more wide-shouldered and muscular look.

The clip-ons from the CBR500R are replaced with a one-piece tapered handlebar for a more upright riding position. Additionally, the battery has been moved away from the intake duct to allow for greater airflow. A dual-exit muffler provides the soundtrack.

The 2019 Honda CB500F is available in three colours: Grand Prix Red, Matt Gun Powder Black Metallic and Pearl Metalloid White.

2019 Honda CB500X – From 36,099

The CB500X is the dual-sport format of the range and is touted as the perfect all-rounder. Its styling has been revised but still retains its unmistakable silhouette.

What sets the CB500X apart from the rest in the line-up are the longer-travel suspension and 19-inch front wheel. They allow the bike to traverse rough roads with more ease.

The front part of the seat where it joins the fuel tank was “shaved down” to make it slimmer, allowing the rider to move around and plant his feet when he stops. The steering has 3 extra degrees of movement from lock to lock.

The 2019 Honda CB500X is also offered in three colours: Grand Prix Red, Matt Gun Powder Black Metallic and Pearl Metalloid White.

The PETRONAS ROVR is Malaysia’s first mobile refueling service.
It widens PETRONAS’s reach to customers.
It delivers petrol to consumers and diesel to commercial fleets.

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) keeps Malaysians on the move with PETRONAS ROVR, the first mobile refueling service offered by PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) in the country. ROVR’s innovative service allows for a seamless and safe refueling experience for both commercial and everyday drivers, beyond conventional petrol stations.

ROVR has been serving commercial customers (B2B) since its pilot in October 2018 and has since delivered over 1 million liters of fuel. ROVR is now ready to cater to more B2B customers nationwide with the introduction of more ROVR trucks.

End-consumers (B2C) will soon be able to experience this innovative solution as ROVR will be delivering the latest PETRONAS Primax95 with Pro-Drive at high-traffic hotspots, widening PDB’s coverage area beyond the extensive network of PETRONAS stations nationwide.

“At PDB, we invest heavily in understanding the customer journey and we address the frictions in their daily lives by offering progressive solutions. ROVR provides a new refuelling experience, and we are excited to have our customers be the first in Malaysia to experience this. “I am pleased with this new offering from PDB. It’s not easy for our large trucks to navigate on roads, and some stations set a limitation on large commercial vehicles. With ROVR, we just schedule for fuel deliveries, and ROVR trucks and Rangers will show up for our drivers to refuel without the need to leave the yard or take a detour. ROVR fuel trucks are guaranteed safe and certified for fuel delivery and dispensing, according to the stringent health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) requirements stipulated by national authorities and regulatory bodies. All ROVR trucks are equipped with sensors to monitor vital information and maintain operational safety throughout the duration of service, at all times.

ROVR’s current fleet includes a 4,000-liter capacity and three 11,000-liter capacity trucks for commercial customers. ROVR’s 3,000-liter capacity truck for end-consumers is at its pilot stage. By the end of this year, PDB will expand ROVR services nationwide and set up more refuelling sites.
