Honda and Tezuka Productions have teamed up with Cub House Thailand to create a limited-edition Monkey Astro Boy model to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the original manga and the 60th anniversary of the beloved series.

  • The Honda Monkey X Astro Boy is a limited edition motorcycle to celebrate the original manga 70th anniversary.
  • Honda and Tezuka Productions teamed up with Cub House Thailand for the special edition bike.

The Astro Boy manga was brought to television screens by writer Osamu Tezuka in 1963 and went on to lay the groundwork for the anime of today. The Monkey Astro Boy Limited Edition pays homage to the iconic character with a white fuel tank adorned with red and black graphics, red-painted frame, plaid leather seat cover, and semi-clear air cleaner covers with stickers imitating Astro Boy’s mechanic heart and control board.

Styled by Honda’s H2C Design team, the 300 Monkey Astro Boy units feature a serialized badge on the fuel tank, a stylized fuel lid, and a side panel flaunting a chrome coating treatment. Retailing for THB129,900 (RM16.7k), the limited-edition model also comes with a Monkey x Astro Boy-branded jacket, an Astro Boy-styled helmet, and a premium carrying bag.

Thai Honda Executive Chairman Shigeto Kimura expressed his excitement about the creation of the Monkey Astro Boy Limited Edition and emphasized that it perfectly conveys the fun DNA of both Monkey and Astro Boy together, creating a unique and delivering a different experience.

Cub House Thailand has a reputation for top-notch collaborations, having previously worked with Hot Wheels and One Piece. However, the latest joint project with Honda and Tezuka Productions is aiming for the stars. The limited-edition Monkey Astro Boy model is a perfect tribute to the classic anime and manga series and a must-have for die-hard fans.

– PanduLaju

Coming in new for the Malaysian market is the Honda Vario 125 compact scooter priced at RM7,080 excluding registration and insurance.

  • Boon Siew Honda introduces the Vario 125.
  • The Vario 125 features a compact 125cc single-cylinder engine that makes 11hp.

Adopting a similar bodywork to the outgoing Vario 150, the 125cc variant also offers the same features albeit with a slightly updated package.

That said, the Vario 125 still features the same 18L under-seat storage, Honda SMART key system with Anti-theft alarm, Answer Back system, full LED lighting and a fully digital instrument cluster.

However, the 125cc gets a USB charger port which was not available on the Vario 150.

Powering the Vario 125 is a single cylinder 125cc 4-stroke with liquid-cooled Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) engine capable of cranking 11hp @ 8,500rpm and 11.74Nm @ 5,000rpm.

The Honda Vario 125 runs on a pair of 14-inch wheels shod with 90/80 at the front and 100/80 at the rear.

According to Boon Siew Honda, the Honda Vario 125 comes in three exciting colours; Yellow, Blue and Red.

Honda has introduced the new CBR250RR SP in Indonesia, packed with advanced features and upgrades that promise to enhance the sportbike’s performance and style.

  • The 2023 Honda CBR250RR SP now features higher compression ratio and a power bump.
  • The quarter-litre sportsbike is fitted with Showa’s BPF front forks and a quickshifter as standard.

The new version of the popular model, boasts an improved compression ratio of 12.5:1, which translates to a power increase to 42 horsepower at 13,000 rpm a slight increase from 40hp previously.

The CBR250RR SP’s engine is now equipped with a quickshifter, a feature that has never been seen before in small-displacement sportbikes.

The bike also boasts updated suspension components, featuring a Showa BPF front fork, similar to what’s found on bigger bikes like the CBR500R and CBR650R. Despite the CBR250RR’s smaller size and weight of just 170 kilograms, it features a single rotor up front and at the rear with dual-channel ABS.

The CBR250RR SP is equipped with a fully digital display, LED lights at the front and back, and a throttle-by-wire system that offers multiple riding modes.

Small-displacement sportbikes may not be the most exciting motorcycles on the market, but the CBR250RR SP’s advanced features and performance upgrades make it a compelling option for those seeking a thrilling ride on the track or a tight twisty road.

The Asian market is no stranger to sportbikes, and Honda’s latest offering is sure to turn heads with its impressive features and sleek design.

As confirmed by leaked photos, Honda is set to expand its CB350 range with a Cafe Racer version.

  • Honda is set to add a cafe racer edition of its current CB350 range.
  • The CB350 Cafe Racer features a different body parts including a new single-seat.

The photos, reportedly taken at a dealer event in India, clearly show a CB350 with slightly different components. In this case, the new parts create a classic cafe racer motorcycle.

Firstly, we can see an entirely different saddle, particularly a single-seat setup with a seat cowl.

At the front, the CB350 Cafe Racer gets a headlight shroud compared to a more exposed headlamp on the base model. Unfortunately, while a proper cafe racer is equipped with clip-ons, the bike in the picture is fitted with a standard handlebar.

Powering the Honda CB350 Cafe Racer is likely the same single-cylinder 348cc air-cooled engine that is capable to produce a solid 20.7hp @ 5,500rpm and 30Nm @ 3,000rpm while matted to a 5-speed gearbox.

While we have yet to get further details apart from the leaked photos by RushLane, the CB350 Cafe Racer could make its official debut soon.

Honda is reportedly working on a new motorcycle crash detection system that goes beyond just alerting riders when a crash has occurred.

  • Honda is developing a new motorcycle crash detection system that can determine if the rider is unconscious and decide whether or not to call for emergency services.
  • The system uses the motorcycle’s IMU and sensors to detect a crash.
  • The system can differentiate between minor incidents and serious accidents and has the potential to save lives by quickly alerting emergency services.

The new technology is said to be able to determine if the rider is unconscious or not and decide whether or not to call for emergency services.

The system uses the motorcycle’s IMU and an array of sensors to detect when a crash has occurred. It then links to the rider’s smartphone and helmet-mounted Bluetooth headset to determine if the rider is still conscious or not. Based on this diagnosis, the system will decide whether or not to make an emergency call.

Interestingly, the system is also said to be able to differentiate between a minor incident, such as dropping the bike on its side at a driveway, and a serious accident that requires immediate attention. If the incident is deemed minor, the system will not make an emergency call.

While this new technology sounds promising, questions remain about its accuracy and reliability. For example, if the rider is not wearing a Bluetooth headset, will the system still be able to accurately determine their state of consciousness? Additionally, it will be interesting to see how the system performs in real-world scenarios.

Despite these questions, Honda’s new motorcycle crash detection system is a promising development in motorcycle safety technology. It has the potential to save lives by quickly alerting emergency services when a serious accident has occurred. Honda has not yet announced when the technology will be available to the public.

KTM is reportedly developing a semi-automatic gearbox for its next generation of 1290-powered bikes, according to recent patents.

  • KTM’s upcoming semi-automatic gearbox to benefit the 1290 range.
  • The semi-automatic gearbox is not similar to Honda’s DCT.

Unlike Honda’s DCT system, KTM’s approach will use rocker arms, a centrifugal clutch, and a separate gear control unit to shift gears fully autonomously or with rider input. The semi-auto system will also feature a unique parking brake, which could serve as an additional anti-theft measure.

The patent suggests that the system could be featured in KTM’s 1290 Super Adventure S, Super Adventure R, 1290 Super Duke R, and 1290 Super Duke GT models.

However, it’s unclear how riders will manually shift gears with the new system.

The KTM system’s L-shaped lever physically locks driven gears in place and can’t be deactivated unless the bike is switched on, adding an additional layer of protection against motorcycle theft.

Honda recent introduction of the CB750 Hornet seems to be doing well particularly among motorcycle journalist who managed to get a taste of the bike.

  • Honda CB750 Hornet is the latest bike to features Honda’s newest parallel-twin mill.
  • The Hornet could spawn a fully-faired CBR750RR.

The Hornet is the second machine to be equipped with Honda’s latest parallel-twin 750cc mill after the XL750 Transalp. With that in mind, could the new platform make a good sportbike? Well, according to credible European and Japanese publication, that seems to be the case.

Moreover, looking at Honda’s tendency to introduce a fully-faired machine alongside a naked bike, the idea doesn’t seem far-fetched.

Also, with the market currently shifting towards middleweight sportsbike like the Aprilia RS660 and Yamaha YZF-R7, it is likely that Honda plans to take on the same route.

After all, the 750 mill is impressive as it is capable of cranking 91hp and 70Nm.

At the same time, Honda could easily make use of the Hornet’s lightweight frame as well as the adjustable inverted Showa forks for the fully-faired version.

Design wise, we expect that the 750RR to follow the same design language as the CBR500R and CBR650R.
