BMW has no plan to develop hybrid motorcycles and will only focus on internal combustion engines and electrification.

  • The CE 04 electric maxi-scooter was launched earlier this year.
  • BMW will release a new electric drivetrain every 18 to 24 months.

The confirmation news came from BMW’s Vice President of Customer, Brand and Sales, Dr Alexander Wehr.

“The hybrid solution has always been an important step, but it has always been an in-between step.

“We can see on the car side that the trend is towards fully electric.

“On motorcycles, there is no upside of a hybrid drivetrain if you can have an electric drivetrain. We will keep pursuing both internal combustion engines and electric, and they both fit very well – not only to scooters but to motorcycles,” he told MCN.

BMW has already gotten things going in the electric department after rolling out the CE 04 fully electric maxi-scooter earlier this year.

Wehr also revealed that the company would deliver a new electric drivetrain every 18 to 24 months, confirming the firm’s commitment towards zero-emission goals.

BMW made it clear that the future is electric and began its serious electrification project by introducing the CE 04 earlier this year.

  • latest patent application reveals a new electric powertrain is being built according to the iconic Boxer engine.
  • the protruding Boxer engine will place both the battery and motor along with cooling system.

BMW chairman Oliver Zipse also claimed that BMW Motorrad will launch a new electric two-wheeler every 18 to 24 months, with the following model scheduled to arrive in 2023.

While the CE 04 and other initial models are labelled as urban mobility vehicles, BMW will eventually join the rank of high-performance electric motorcycles.

BMW Motorrad has already registered multiple trademarks, from DC 01 to DC 09, which could lead to various electric motorcycles coming in the future.

Coincidentally, the latest patent application by the German marquee revealed exciting information; Motorcycle.com reported that BMW is working on an electric motorcycle based on the Boxer elements.

This isn’t the first time BMW revealed such ideas, considering that the Vision DC Roadster concept was a design built based on the heritage of the boxer engine.

Although the Vision DC Roadster concept wasn’t intended to become a production model, but it was certainly a step by BMW to explore an electric motorcycle that could stay true to the brand’s heritage.

According to the new patent application, the battery and its cooling elements will form a similar shape to a Boxer engine.

The elements are fixed heat sinks made of aluminium and covered in cooling fins, mimicking the air-cooled Boxer engine’s cylinders.

Nevertheless, the cylinders will house the inverter, charging mechanism, and internal liquid-cooling system for the battery and motor. At the same time, the protruding elements will allow the battery and motor to be cooled by the airflow when the bike is in motion.

While we are not sure if the patents could lead to a production model, the idea of developing an electric motor to pay homage to the iconic Boxer engine is enough to excite us.

BMW Motorrad India has unveiled some details of the upcoming G 310 RR ahead of its official launch on July 15, 2022.

  • The upcoming G 310 RR will feature similar hardware to the TVS Apache RR310.
  • Decals and colours is heavily inspired by the S 1000 RR flagship superbike.

From what we know, the G 310 RR will feature a fully-adjustable suspension setup, but in the latest teaser shared on Monday, the baby RR will also get a full-colour instrument cluster, and S 1000 RR-inspired decals.

Despite the G 310 RR borrowing much of the hardware from TVS’s Apache RR310, we can confirm that the S 1000 RR will heavily inspire the upcoming sportbike.

Nevertheless, reports in India suggest that BMW Motorrad could introduce different variants of the G 310 RR, with one featuring an adjustable suspension while the other comes in a basic setup.

Currently, the Apache RR310 BTO offers a fully-adjustable KYB front fork with 15mm preload adjustability and 20 sets of damping, while the rear monoshock features 10-steps preload adjustments with 20-sets of damping.

The peak performance of the G 310 RR is accessible via four riding modes; Sport and Track offer peak performance at 33.5hp, while in Urban and Rain mode, the engine power drops to 25hp.

The 312.2cc liquid-cooled, reverse inclined motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and can reach 160km/h max speed.

BMW Motorrad India has just drop a new teaser on what could be a new baby supersport from the company partnership with India’s TVS Motor Company.

  • The BMW G 310 RR is based on TVS Apache RR 310.
  • Powered by a 312.2cc single-cylinder engine capable of pushing 34hp and
    27.3Nm.

The teaser image showcased a new motorcycle set to be unveil on July 15, 2022.

Despite showing only the taillight, but the similarity with the TVS Apache 310 RR is a major giveaway thus confirming that BMW will finally enter the entry-level supersport segment with the G 310 RR.

Moreover, the ‘RR’ logo is clearly visible on the tail which also a big hint that the G 310 RR is finally on its way.

BMW Motorrad and TVS inked a long-term deal in 2013 which allows the two parties to share the 300cc platforms to compete in the rising Asian market.

The partnership resulted in the G 310 R (roadste)r and the G 310 GS (road-focused tourer) while TVS released the Apache RR 310, a fully faired sportbike.
