Yamaha MT-09 2024 yang dikemas kini telah didedahkan dengan rasmi.

Model Yamaha MT-09 merupakan salah satu motosikal naked terlaris di seluruh dunia dengan menawarkan prestasi, keringanan, gaya (walaupun kontroversi) dalam satu pakej yang mampu milik. Yamaha tidak berpuas hati dengan kejayaan mereka, justeru mengemas kininya untuk 2024 dengan teknologi yang dipertingkatkan, komponen casis baharu dan penggayaan yang diubah. Oh, ia mempunyai beberapa ciri “audio” juga.

Kemas kini yang paling jelas ialah penggayaannya selepas yang terakhir pada 2021. Walaubagaimanapun, unit lampu depan yang masa itu tidak diterima dengan baik. Ia samada anda menyukainya atau membencinya.

Lampu depan cyclops tidak lagi digunakan untuk 2024. Kini, lampu depan projektor LED segi empat mengambil tempatnya, sambil diapit dengan dua lampu penunjuk kedudukan LED. Malah, keseluruhan unit lampu depan telah bertukar. Yamaha berkata bentuknya lebih serasi dengan bentuk tangki bahan api.

Berkenaan tangki minyak, Yamaha juga telah merombak semula gayanya agar lebih tajam dengan sisi yang lebih jelas untuk kedudukan tunggangan yang lebih baik. Bagi lubang pembesar suara tersebut, ya, ia mengeluarkan bunyi. Walau bagaimanapun, ia bukanlah lagu kegemaran anda, sebaliknya ia membenarkan lebih banyak bunyi kemasukan udara daripada saluran masuk udara. Kotak udara itu sendiri menampilkan trompet kemasukan udara yang disemak semula untuk mengurangkan bunyi frekuensi tinggi sambil mengekalkan tindak balas pendikit (throttle) yang lebih lancar.

The updated 2024 Yamaha MT-09 has been revealed.

The MT-09 is one of the best-selling naked motorcycle the world over by offering performance, low weight, styling (albeit controversial) in an affordable package. Yamaha is not resting on their laurels, hence updating it for 2024 with improved technology, new chassis components, and styling tweaks. Oh, it has some aural features too.

 

The most obvious update is its styling after the last exercise in 2021. However, the last updated headlamp unit was not warmly received. It was either you loved it or hated it.

Gone is the bug-eyed cyclops headlamp for 2024. Now, a rectangular LED projector headlight takes its position, while flanked with two LED positioning lamps. In fact, the entire headlamp unit has changed to which Yamaha says is more harmonious with the fuel tank.

Speaking of the tank, Yamaha has also reworked its styling to be sharper with more defined edges for a better riding position. As for those speaker vents, yes, they do emit sounds. Not your favourite songs, however, instead they allow more induction howl to come through from the air intakes. The airbox itself features revised intake trumpets to cut back on high frequency sounds while maintain a linear throttle response.

Other revisions include a new radially-mounted Brembo front brake master cylinder, revised riding position, new rear brake and gear levers, split seats (finally), revised fork settings, and new rear shock linkage to provide a better feel when cornering.

Pelumba motosikal negara, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman mungkin terpaksa bersara awal daripada perlumbaan aktif di pentas Asia.

Ketika ditemui oleh Harian Metro, Azlan mendedahkan bahawa dia belum menerima jawapan mengenai penyertaan pasukannya di dalam Kejohanan Motosikal Asia (ARRC) 2024. Ini kerana pasukannya sekarang, TKKR Racing Team berkata di Facebook baru-baru ini bahawa mereka tidak berjaya mendapatkan penaja untuk musim 2024, sekali gus menimbulkan keraguan masa depan mereka dan Azlan.

“Saya akan bersara awal daripada saingan Asia jika tidak menerima tawaran. Saya sudah pun meletakkan sasaran untuk berlumba di peringkat Asia sehingga umur 40 tahun,” katanya.

“Secara realistiknya, pasukan lain lebih suka mengupah pelumba muda berbanding yang sudah tua. Badan saya tidak sekuat sekarang… Saya masih boleh bersaing tetapi saya memerlukan usaha dua kali ganda untuk bersaing dengan pelumba muda khususnya daripada segi stamina.”

Secara lebih positif, Azlan mungkin akan beralih kepada perlumbaan dalam Kejohanan Endurance Dunia (EWC) pada 2025 sekiranya penyertaan ARRC tahun ini tidak menjadi kenyataan. Dia telah pun berlumba di Suzuka 8-Hour Endurance 2023 sebagai sebahagian daripada kalendar EWC dalam kelas Formula EWC dengan Frontier Racing.

Azlan mempunyai pengalaman yang mengagumkan, setelah memenangi beberapa gelaran superbike kebangsaan sebagai penunggang untuk Chia PJ Kawasaki, serta pernah mengambil bahagian dalam Kejohana Moto2 Dunia dari 2013 hingga 2015. Beliau juga merupakan juara kelas ASB1000cc yang julung kalinya dalam ARRC pada 2019, sebagai pelumba untuk pasukan ONEXOX TKKR SAG ketika itu. Beliau kini memiliki AS25 Academy Racing Team yang mengambil bahagian dalam kategori WIRA dalam Kejuaraan Petronas Cub Prix Malaysia.

National motorcycle racer, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman hints early retirement from active racing on the Asian stage.

In speaking to Harian Metro, Azlan revealed that he has not received an answer on his team’s participation in the 2024 Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC). His current team, TKKR Racing Team posted on Facebook recently that they could not secure a sponsor for the 2024 season, thereby throwing theirs and Azlan’s immediate future into doubt.

“I will retire early from Asian competition if I do not receive an offer. I have already set a target to race at the Asian level until I am 40,” he said.

“Realistically, other teams prefer hiring younger racers compared to older ones. My body isn’t as strong now… I can still fight it out but I need twice the effort to slug it out with them in terms of stamina.”

On a more positive note, Azlan may switch to racing in the Endurance World Championship (EWC) in 2025 should this year’s ARRC participation does not come to pass. He had already raced at the 2023 Suzuka 8-Hour Endurance as part of the EWC calendar in the Formula EWC class with Frontier Racing.

Azlan has an impressive resume, having won several national superbike titles while riding for Chia PJ Kawasaki and took part in the Moto2 World Championship from 2013 to 2015. He was also the inaugural ASB1000cc class champion in ARRC in 2019, riding for then ONEXOX TKKR SAG Racing Team.  He currently owns the AS25 Academy Racing Team which races in the WIRA category in the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

Seorang lelaki maut dipukul sekumpulan individu selepas dipercayai cuba melarikan diri berikutan dia merempuh penunggang e-hailing, di Taman Pelangi, Kajang pada malam Selasa.

Polis berkata Proton Saga yang dipandu mangsa berusia 42 tahun telah merempuh pintu pagar sebuah rumah. Dia kemudian diseret keluar dari kereta dan diserang oleh beberapa individu. Pergelangan tangannya juga menunjukkan tanda-tanda diikat.

Polis menemui mangsa dalam keadaan terbaring di atas tanah ketika mereka tiba. Dia kemudiannya diumumkan telah meninggal dunia oleh paramedik yang tiba di tempat kejadian. Saksi di tempat kejadian menyifatkan mangsa diseret keluar daripada keretanya dan dipukul oleh sekumpulan lelaki. Mereka juga mengatakan bahawa tangannya diikat ke belakang. Kumpulan itu kemudian membaringkannya di atas tanah dan meninggalkan tempat kejadian sebelum polis tiba.

Tempat kejadian kemudiannya diproses oleh Unit Forensik Bukit Aman yang mengumpul beberapa sampel darah dan cap jari. Mereka juga menjumpai dua gulung tali. Berdasarkan maklumat yang ada, polis mengesan suspek dan menahan 5 individu di sekitar Semenyih dan Beranang.

“Suspek berusia antara 22 hingga 52 tahun itu diberkas anggota polis Cawangan D9 Bahagian Siasatan Jenayah IPD Kajang sekitar jam 2.05 pagi, Rabu,” kata Ketua Polis Daerah Kajang, Asisten Komisioner Mohd. Zaid Hassan.

Tambahnya, kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 302 Kanun Keseksaan (diklasifikasikan sebagai membunuh), serta Seksyen 41 Akta Pengangkutan Jalan 1987.

Polis menggalakkan saksi tampil untuk memberikan maklumat lanjut dengan menghubungi Asisten Superintendan Redzuan Mat Salleh dari Bahagian Siasatan Jenayah IPD Kajang di talian 013-7854100.

Mereka juga boleh menyampaikan maklumat kepada Inspektor Ammar Tahir dari Bahagian Siasatan dan Penguatkuasaan Trafik di talian 018-2194013 untuk membantu siasatan.

A man was beaten to death by a group after allegedly attempting to run away following him knocking down an e-hailing rider, in Taman Pelangi, Kajang on Tuesday night.

Police said a Proton Saga driven by the 42-year-old victim had crashed into the gates of a house. He was then dragged out of the car and assaulted by several individuals. His wrists also bore signs of being tied.

Police found the victim lying on the ground when they arrived. He was later announced as deceased by the paramedics who arrived on the scene. Witnesses at the scene described the victim being dragged out of his car and was beaten by a group of men. They also said that his hands were tied behind his back. The group then laid him down on the ground and left the scene before the police arrived.

The scene was subsequently processed by the Bukit Aman Forensic Unit who collected several blood samples and fingerprints. They also found two rolls of rope. Based on the available information, the police tracked down the suspects and arrested 5 individuals in the vicinity of Semenyih and Beranang.

“The suspects were aged between 22 to 52 years old and were apprehended by police officers of the D9 Branch of the Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Kajang at around 2.05am, Wednesday,” said Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd. Zaid Hassan.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code (classified as murder), as well as Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are encouraging witnesses to come forward with further information by contacting Assistant Superintendent Redzuan Mat Salleh from the Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Kajang at 013-7854100.

They may also provide information to Inspector Ammar Tahir from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 018-2194013 with information to assist in the investigations.

Apa kata kita bincangkan tajuk lengan ayun sebelah (single sided swingarm) setelah tular satu video tidak lama dahulu?

Video tersebut bermula dengan seorang penunggang motosikal yang menunggang bersama pemboncengnya, apabila pembonceng itu kelihatan cemas dengan tiba-tiba. Kamera kemudian berpusing ke sebelah kanan dan ketika itulah kelihatan sebiji tayar bersama rimnya bergerak sendiri dan memotong motosikal mereka. Video itu ditamatkan dengan adegan sebuah Ducati Hypermotard yang dibaringkan di atas jalan tanpa roda belakangnya.

Seperti biasa, netizen bertindak cepat dan mengemukakan komen mereka. Ada yang membuat lawak, ada yang membahan, dan ada juga yang menawarkan sebab terjadinya insiden tersebut.

Tetapi ada satu komen yang menarik perhatian kami. Beliau berkata, “Kelemahan single arm.” Komen beliau dibahan oleh beberapa netizen yang lain.

Sebenarnya, ada kebenaran di dalam komennya. Tetapi sebelum kami meneruskan rencana ini, kami ingin menegaskan bahawa insiden ini amat jarang berlaku. Selain daripada itu, bukan Ducati sahaja yang menggunakan lengan ayun sebelah, malah BMW, Honda, Moto Guzzi, KTM, CFMoto, MV Agusta, Triumph, serta skuter turut menggunakan ciri ini.

Apakah kelebihan utama untuk lengan ayun sebelah?

Kelebihan utama untuk lengan ayun sebelah ialah ciri penanggalan dan pemasangan semula roda belakang dengan cepat. Anda hanya perlu melepaskan nat atau bolt dan roda dapat ditanggalkan tanpa mengganggu penjajaran (alignment) rantai, sproket, dan kaliper brek kerana komponen-komponen ini dipasang pada braket yang berasingan. Sama juga apabila roda dipasang kembali.

Terdapat satu spindel/gandar yang tebal dan pendek untuk meletakkan roda di tempatnya (lihat gambar di bawah).

Mendiang Massimo Tamburini mereka Ducati 916 dengan lengan ayun sebelah dengan mengambil kira kelebihan ini kerana Ducati bercadang hendak melumbakan motosikal tersebut di dalam acara-acara lasak (endurance). Tamburini juga pernah berkata yang beliau mendapat ilham daripada Honda NR750 yang menggunakan swingarm sebelah. Selain daripada itu, lawan terdekat 916 ialah Honda RC30 dan kemudiannya RC45 yang turut digunakan di dalam perlumbaan endurance selain daripada World Superbike.

Tamburini juga berkata pengunaan swingarm sebelah membuatkan roda belakang seakan terapung dan tidak disambungkan kepada motosikal. Setelah itu, Ducati bersambung dengan penggunaan swingarm sebelah sehingga hari ini.

Lengan ayun dua belah pula…

Sebaliknya, pemasangan roda belakang pada lengan ayun dua belah (konvensional) memerlukan satu spindel (rod) dimasukkan bagi menyambungkan kedua-dua belah.

Kita kenalah menarik keluar spindel itu, lepaskan rantai daripada sproket, dan lepaskan cakera brek daripada kaliper.

Oleh itu, rantai dan gandar belakang perlu dijajarkan kembali apabila roda belakang dipasang semula. Proses ini hendaklah dijalankan dengan cermat kerana roda belakang yang tidak dijajarkan dengan sempurna akan menyebabkan masalah kehausan tayar, rantai, dan pad brek yang tidak normal. Selain daripada itu, motosikal juga akan mengalami masalah pengendalian.

Namun, bergantung kepada rekaan blok penjajar lengan ayun, roda belakang mungkin tidak akan tercabut terus kerana dipegang oleh rantai dan braket kaliper brek, jika nat pengunci tercabut. Penunggang masih berpeluang untuk merasakan sesuatu tidak betul seperti bahagian belakang motosikal yang cuba bergerak ke arah yang lain.

Memang ada insiden di mana roda belakang tercabut daripada lengan ayun biasa dua belah.

Penutup

Jadi, adakah lengan ayun sebelah merbahaya?

Semua solusi kejuruteraan mempunyai kompromi. Oleh itu roda belakang dikunci dengan nat yang besar atau beberapa bolt serta pin. Tork pengetatan wajib betul oleh itu gunakanlah spanar tork!

Kami ingin tegaskan sekali lagi bahawa ini merupakan suatu kejadian luarbiasa. Apapun, periksalah motosikal anda sebelum memulakan perjalanan.

Let us talk a bit about the single sided swingarm, especially considering a video that went viral recently.

The footage showed a rider and his pillion on a bike when the pillion suddenly became agitated. The camera then panned right to show their bike’s rear wheel running next to the divider and overtaking them. It concluded with a Ducati Hypermotard on its side sans the rear wheel.

Netizens were quick to provide their own comments of the incident. Some were just pure banter, some were jokes, some were derision, some were er… post-mortems.

One such comment in our sister site, MotoMalaya attracted our attention. The commenter said, “That’s the disadvantage of the single sided swingarm.” The comment was followed by plenty of derision.

Like it or not, that comment has some truth. However, before we proceed further, we would like to state that such occurrence is very rare. And it is not only Ducatis that are fitted with single sided swingarms as several other manufacturers do so, too. For example, BMW, Honda, Moto Guzzi, KTM, CFMoto, MV Agusta, Triumph, and of course scooters!

The main advantage of the single sided swingarm

The primary advantage of the single sided swingarm is quick and easy rear wheel removal and installation. Remove the tightening nut or bolts and out comes the entire wheel without upsetting the chain tension and rear brake as the rear sprocket, brake disc, and brake caliper are mounted on a carrier.

There is a very short and stout axle to hold the wheel in place. Thus, one only needs to reinstall the rear wheel and retighten the locking nut or bolts and not bother with chain tension and axle alignment.

In fact, this was why Massimo Tamburini designed the seminal Ducati 916 with a single sided swingarm. It was thought that Ducati had wanted to enter the 916 in endurance races. Tamburini himself said that he drew inspiration from the Honda NR750. Other contemporary rivals were the Honda RC30 and later RC45 – both also sported single sided swingarms because they were raced in endurance events.

 

However, Tamburini did also mention that aesthetically, the rear wheel appears as if it is floating and not connected to the bike. It then became the signature of high performance Ducatis and continues to be used until today.

The double sided swingarm, on the other hand…

Conversely, a double sided swingarm requires an axle/spindle to be inserted through the center of the wheel to connect both sides.

One needs to pull the axle out, take the chain off the sprocket, and pull the brake disc away from the caliper.

The drive chain requires tensioning and the entire rear end needs realignment when the axle and wheel are reinstalled. The tensioning and alignment process needs time and care. An improperly aligned rear axle will result in abnormal tyre, chain, and brake pad wear, besides handling issues.

But should the lock nut break loose and depending on the design of the rear of the swing arm, the chain can hold the axle in place albeit misaligned. Similarly, the brake caliper bracket or holder helps to keep the axle and wheel from sliding out.

Then again, there are incidents where the rear wheel came off double sided swingarms. Point is, it takes a longer time for the rear wheel to slide out and there will be plenty of warning symptoms if the axle nut was improperly tightened or had come off, such as the rear of the bike pulling to one side.

In a nutshell

So, is a single side swingarm inherently dangerous?

All engineering practices consist of compromises. That is why the rear wheel is locked with a large nut and pin or several bolts. Therefore, the proper tightening torque is essential, so use a torque wrench, for crying out loud!

We would like to state again that this was a very uncommon incident. In any case, always inspect your bike before riding.

Model Triumph Tiger 660 Rally berkemungkinan sedang dibangunkan bagi melengkapi banjaran model 660 tiga silinder.

Triumph amat fasih dalam strategi menghasilkan model-model motosikal tetapi berasaskan platform yang sama. Contohnya: Banjaran 400cc bersilinder tunggal, banjaran Bonneville dwi-silinder 900cc dan 1200cc, banjaran Tiger 900cc dan 1200cc tiga silinder, dan banjaran 660cc tiga silinder yang amat popular.

Platform yang terakhir itu telah menghasilkan tiga model iaitu Trident 660, Daytona 660, dan Tiger Sport 660. Model Trident merupakan jenis roadster/naked, manakala Daytona merupakan sportbike, dan Tiger Sport 660 ialah sport-tourer. Namun, tiada model adventure (lasak) Triumph Tiger 660 Rally di dalam rangkaian itu.

Pembuat yang berpusat di Hinckley, UK ini amat peka terhadap hakikat ini. Sekmen adventure 700cc sedang hangat direbut oleh pembuat-pembuat motosikal. Pembeli motosikal adventure gemar kepada sekmen ini kerana ia terdiri daripada motosikal yang lebih besar daripada model 250cc-500cc tetapi tidak sebesar, seberat, dan semahal model-model 900cc-lebih daripada 1000cc. Antara model-model adventure sekmen pertengahan ialah Aprilia Tuareg 660, Honda XL750 Transalp, KTM 790 Adventure, dan Yamaha Tenere 700.

Only thing that remains to be seen if the final bike will have Rally and/or Rally Pro designations.

A Triumph Tiger 660 Rally may be in the works to complete the 660 triple lineup with an adventure model.

Triumph is the master of building different models based on an existing platform. Case in point: The 400cc singles, 900cc and 1200cc twin-cylinder Bonnevilles, the 850cc, 900cc and 1200cc Tiger triples, and the best-selling 660 triples.

The fourth platform has already spawned three models, namely the Trident 660, Daytona 660, and Tiger Sport 660. The Trident is a roadster or more commonly called a naked. The Daytona is a fully-faired sportbike. And lastly the Tiger Sport 660 is a sport-tourer. Thus, a Triumph Tiger 660 Rally adventure model is glaringly missing from the lineup.

The Hinckley, UK based manufacturer is aware of this. The 700cc adventure segment is being hotly contested due to great demand. Motorcycle buyers crowd to this segment as it sits between the smaller capacity bikes and the heavier and more expensive models. Rivals include the Aprilia Tuareg 660, Honda XL750 Transalp, KTM 790 Adventure, and of course, the Yamaha Tenere 700.

Produksi superbike Yamaha YZF-R1 dan Yamaha YZF-R1 M bakal dihentikan.

“Yamaha Motor Group telah mengambil keputusan untuk tidak membangunkan versi R1 atau R1M yang menepati piawaian emisi Euro5+. Sebaliknya (kami) akan menumpukan perhatian terhadap strategi perniagaan dan produk jangka sederhana yang akan memberikan peluang masa depan.”

Ia bermaksud Yamaha mengikut jejak langkah Suzuki yang turut memberhentikan produksi superbike GSX-R1000R. Walaupun begitu, berita ini tidaklah sebegitu mengejutkan kerana semakin ramai pembuat motosikal yang beralih kepada pembuatan model-model yang lebih mudah ditunggang dan lebih mampu milik. Yamaha sendiri telah mengorak langkah terhadap strategi ini dengan penghasilan model YZF-R7 yang berasaskan MT-07. Mereka juga akan melancarkan model YZF-R9 yang berasaskan MT-09 tidak lama lagi.

Terdapat beberapa lagi faktor kenapa R1 dan R1M akan dihentikan:

  • Pembangunan enjin dan model baharu yang menepati piawaian Eruo5+ yang amat ketat akan menelan belanja yang amat tinggi, tetapi untuk pulangan yang tidak berapa lumayan.
  • Model R1 telah mengambil tempat sebagai sebuah motosikal sport yang disegani sejak pelancarannya pada 1998. Ia merupakan superbike Yamaha yang akhirnya menghentikan dominasi Honda CBR900. Apapun, Yamaha masih tidak dapat menjual sebanyak R1 yang diharapkan jika dibandingkan dengan Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R/ZX-10RR, BMW S 1000 RR, dan Ducati Panigale.

  • Kebanyakkan penunggang telah beralih kepada motosikal yang lebih mudah ditunggang dan boleh digunakan untuk berbagai kegunaan seperti jenis sport-touring, dwi-sport, serta adventure. Motosikal-motosikal ini dapat ke mana sahaja, memberikan keselesaan kepada penunggang dan pembonceng, boleh membawa barang, serta boleh dipasang dengan berbagai aksesori berbanding dengan sebuah superbike.

  • Tahap prestasi superbike kini dan yang akan datang telah menjangkaui kemahiran kebanyakan penunggang motosikal.
  • Kondisi jalan yang tidak bertambah baik di seluruh dunia. Sebaliknya menunggang superbike di atas jalan raya awam seperti ianya sebuah litar hanya akan mengundang bahaya dan tragedi.
  • Dan harga superbike yang amat tinggi.

Namun, manalah tahu jika Yamaha YZF-R1 dan Yamaha YZF-R1 M yang lulus Euro 6 akan kembali penghujung dekad ini.

“Yamaha Motor Group, have taken the decision not to develop an EU5+ version of the R1 or R1M instead focussing on other mid-term business and product strategies that will provide future opportunities.”

It means Yamaha follows Suzuki’s decision to axe their own 1,000cc GSX-R1000R sportbike. While shocking, it is not completely surprising as manufacturers shift toward producing more accessible and affordable motorcycles. Yamaha themselves have done so when they debuted the YZF-R7 based on the MT-07 and are launching the YZF-R9 based on the MT-09.

There are several factors that we can think of:

  • Developing an engine to meet the ultra-tough Euro 5+ emission standard will require huge resources for what may be diminishing returns. Yamaha may continue sell their existing Euro 5 compliant R1 and R1-M until 2025, though.
  • The R1 has had a great run since its inception in 1998, being the Yamaha superbike that broke the Honda CBR900’s dominance. However, it did not enjoy the sales volume as other superbikes such as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R/ZX-10RR, BMW S 1000 RR (being a BMW), and Ducati Panigale in recent years.

  • The majority of riders have shifted to the more accessible and versatile sport-touring, dual-sport, adventure motorcycles. These bikes can go anywhere, carry the rider and passenger in comfort, move luggage, and can be mounted with all sorts of accessories.

  • The current and upcoming crop of superbikes are getting to a stage where riders need superhuman abilities to unlock their full potential. They are not only more powerful and faster, but have handling abilities well beyond the skills of at least 80% of motorcycle riders out there.
  • Road conditions the world over are not getting much better and the majority will never match the condition of dedicated race tracks. Trying to ride a sportbike on public roads as if they were racetracks will only prove disastrous.
  • And of course, the price. ‘Nuff said.

However, who knows if it returns as the Euro 6 compliant Yamaha YZF-R1 and Yamaha YZF-R1 M later in the decade.
