Beberapa tahun ini, anak syarikat Qianjiang Motorcycle, QJMotor telah pun memperkenalkan beberapa model baharu yang dijangka akan turut dibawa sebagai Benelli di pasaran lan.

Perkongsian ‘teaser’ terbaru dari Benelli juga mengesahkan perkara itu apabila mendedahkan Tornado 650 dan 550 serta TNT 550.

*Benelli Tornado 550

Menurut laporan, gambar ilustrasi model itu datang dari pihak Benelli sendiri.

QJMotor dan Benelli telah pun mengorak langkah berkongsi platform bermula dengan TRK 800 tahun lalu yang berkongsi enjin sama dengan QJMotor SRT 750.

Kedua-dua model bahkan berkongsi kerangka yang sama cuma dibezakan daripada aspek rekaan panel badan.

*Benelli Tornado 650

QJMotor juga telah memperkenalkan jentera empat silinder 600cc tahun lalu lantas lakaran terkini oleh Benelli itu mengesahkan TNT 650 itu akan dikuasakan enjin sama.

Berdasarkan imej dikongsikan, jelas model TNT 650 itu juga memaparkan kerangka yang sama.

Untuk rekod, enjin empat silinder 600cc oleh QJMotor itu berupaya menghasilkan 87hp sekaligus meletakan model itu lebih berkuasa dari Yamaha R7.

*Benelli TNT 550

Sementara itu, Tornado 550 dan TNT 550 juga akan dikuasakan enjin sama dari model QJMotor 550cc. Menariknya, enjin tersebut juga dijangka merupakan yang sama dipinjamkan kepada MV Agusta bagi model akan datang, Lucky Explorer 5.5.

Senario ini secara tidak langsung mendedahkkan jentera tersebut akan menawarkan sekitar 47hp seperti yang dimaklumkan MV Agusta sebelum ini.

Walaupun perkembangan dari Benelli cukup menarik namun ekoran model dimaksudkan masih lagi dalam bentuk lakaran awal memberi bayangan bahawa Tornado 650, 550 dan TNT 550 hanya akan didedahkan kepada umum setahun dua lagi.

Syarikat motosikal China semakin mendapat tempat di benua Asia, Eropah dan Amerika menerusi Benelli, CFMoto dan Zontes.

Bagaimanapun, sebuah lagi pengeluar China, Colove bakal mencuri tumpuan apabila sedang membangunkan jentera serba baharu, Excelle 400RR.

Menurut syarikat itu, Excelle 400RR akan tampil dengan lampu LED berkembar, panel full-fairing, ekzos ‘underbelly’, serta ‘single-sided swingarm’ seperti Ducati Panigale.

Bagaimanapun, apa yang mencuri tumpuan adalah bahagian enjin kerana mengikut Colove, Excelle 400RR akan bernadikan platform 4-slinder 400cc DOHC dengan penyejukan cecair.

Bukan itu sahaja, Colove mendakwa enjin tersebut mampu menghasilkan 73hp pada 13,500rpm dan 44Nm pada 12,000rpm.

Colove juga memaklumkan Excelle 400RR mampu merekodkan kelajuan maksima 220km/j.

Sistem brek pula hadir dengan cakera brek berkembar dengan bantuan ABS manakala suspensi pula dikendalikan fork teleskopik.

Menurut laporan, Colove akan memperkenalkan Excelle 400RR hujung tahun ini.

Chinese motorcycle manufacturer, Colove is currently working on a new motorcycle, the Excelle 400RR, as confirm by new design sketches.

According to the firm, the Excelle 400RR will feature a twin-headlamp setup, full-fairing panel and underbelly exhaust, among others.

The best part about the bike however, is the engine. The Excelle 400RR will run on a 400cc four-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine that is capable pumping 73hp @ 13,500rpm and 44Nm @ 12,000rpm.

Interestingly, Colove claimed that the Excelle 400RR is capable of hitting a top speed of 220km/h, that is within the same region as the Honda CBR650R.

The Colove Excelle 400RR will sit on a trellis frame and features a muscular fuel tank, fairing with vents, single-rider saddle and raised windshield much like a proper supersport machine.

The Excelle 400RR will also get the nifty single-sided swingarm, much like the Ducati Panigale.

Meanwhile, stopping power comes from a twin disc brakes at the front along with an ABS for added saftely. Unfortunately, Colove opted for a conventional telescopic fork rather than the ‘fancier’ USD fork.

Based on reports, Colove plans to unveil the Excelle 400RR by the end of the year.

On another note, the company also plans to enter the adventure bike segment with the Colove 800X that will run on a 800cc parallel-twin platform, much similar to KTM’s LC8 engine.

Now would be a good time to get the covers of your favourite touring bikes. Repair what is needed. And get them fully ready for touring again.

According to a report by The Star, Thailand is bilateral talks with Malaysia later this month to open a ‘travel bubble’ to promote tourism.

Thailand is eager to open its tourism industry, an unsurprising move since the industry has been decimated by Covid since 2020.

This is not the first time Thailand has opened its borders though.

Last year the Kingdom opened the holiday island of Phuket as part of the Phuket Sandbox scheme where tourists who have been fully vaccinated.

The Delta variant resulted in Covid cases rising again, and this led to the Thai government closing its borders again to tourists.

But since then, a larger portion of the world’s population have been fully vaccinated and boosted as well.

This willingness of Thailand to re-open its borders to Malaysia and China comes a week after it reinstated its “Test & Go” travel project for all vaccinated travellers with Covid insurance. There is no need to quarantine.

However, Thailand is also facing a resurgence in Covid cases with the country recording 10,000 cases this past Sunday – the highest number in three months.

We look forward to riding in Thailand again, but we urge caution as well.

  • A World Health Organization (WHO) report highlighted that Thailand has the highest road accident death rate among Asian countries.

  • However, India saw the most killed in road accidents.

  • Road accidents is now the Number 1 cause of death for children and adults up to 29 years old.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published their annual Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018. In the report, Thailand still has the deadliest roads in Asia while India saw the greatest number of lives lost in traffic accidents.

Although published in 2018, the report provides data collected from 175 countries in 2016.

Thailand’s status as the second deadliest roads in the world has improved to eighth with 32.7 deaths per 100,000 citizens. A whopping 74.4% (16,178) of the 21,745 killed were drivers/passengers of 2-wheeled vehicles. Traffic accidents kill an average of 21,491 persons in the country each year.

In terms of pure numbers, however, the Indian subcontinent saw an almost unbelievable 150,785 reported deaths. Conversely, the WHO believes many more fatalities were probably unreported and as many as 299,091 were killed on India’s roads. The country’s population of over 1.3 billion people had the effect of lowering the rate to 22.6 per 100,000.

By comparison, China has the second highest total number of reported deaths from traffic accidents at 58,022 among her 1.4 billion citizens. Again, the WHO believes that an estimated total of 256,180 were killed in 2016. China’s road death rate was 18.2/100,000.

Malaysia’s road death rate is still high but has seen much improvements at 23.6/100,000 with a total of 7,152 reported cases. There was no official number in the report, but it is widely believed that some 60% of all traffic-related deaths involve motorcycles.

Our neighbor Indonesia reported 31,282 traffic deaths in that year. Fatalities on two-wheel vehicles contributed 73.6% to the total figure. However, they have a low rate at 12.2/100,000 due to their large 261 million population.

The WHO added that traffic accidents are now the leading cause of death among children and adults up to 29 years old, and 8thhighest among people of all ages. At 1.35 million deaths each year, more die in road accidents than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and diarrheal diseases. The situation is worsening and a person is killed every 24 seconds somewhere in the world.

Sobering thoughts for 2019.

According to latest reports, Harley-Davidson has been rumoured to make a bid to buy over Ducati from Volkswagen Group.

Volkwagen has been planning to liquidate some of their major assets including Ducati ever since the great emissions scandal back in 2015.

The biddings to purchase Ducati has been set at €1.5 billion (around RM7.2 billion) in which VW will start accepting bids from potential owners starting July.

According to a recent report made by Reuters, the latest high profile name that has been thrown in to bid over as the new owner of Ducati is none other than Harley-Davidson. Ever since Volkswagen Group has been slapped in the face with the emissions cheating drama, they’ve been looking into liquidating some of their assets and Ducati falls in that very list for sale.
