  • Didi Resources launched the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory today.

  • It’s the most powerful normally-aspirated and non-race homologation superbike.

  • It’s also the lightest of the lot.

Didi Resources launched the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory today. The price is from RM 159,900 but Didi Resources will include the optional carbon fibre front brake ducts worth RM 4,000 for the first batch of buyers.

While eyes are on another Italian bike, the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory promises to be even faster and focused on outright performance.

But rather than bore you with a long write-up, here are ten things you should know about this bike.

1. 10th Year of the RSV4

The 2019 RSV4 1100 Factory actually commemorates the 10th year of the Aprilia RSV4. The 2009 bike won a number of accolades including Best Sportbike of the year not only for its power and performance but also the groundbreaking APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) electronic suite.

2. Most powerful sportbike

The RSV1100 Factory is 100cc up from previous models. The 1078cc 65-degree V-Four powerplant sees the increase of 16 hp and 6.8 Nm to 217 hp at 13,200 RPM and 122 Nm of torque at 11,000 RPM. That makes it the most powerful normally-aspirated and also non-homologation special sportbike.

3. New APRC package

The APRC rider aid package has been expanded to include extra features to rein in those 217 horses. Together, they are Aprilia Traction Control (ATC), Aprilia Wheelie Control (AWC), Aprilia Launch Control (ALC), Aprilia Quick Shift (AQS) and Aprilia Pit Limiter (ALC). These features were brought over from the RSV4 RR.

4. The lightest

It is also the lightest among its peers (apart from the race-homologated Panigale V4 R). The RSV4 1100 Factory weighs 5 kg lighter than its predecessor, resulting in a lithe 199 kg, fully fueled and ready to ride.

5. Weight-loss regiment

A Bosch lithium-ion battery and Akrapovic exhaust system contributes to the low weight.

6. Special Akrapovic exhaust

Speaking of the exhaust, the system was specially designed developed together with the famed maker, Akrapovic. The new system is not only responsible for the power increase but also yielding smoother power and torque curves.

7. Redesigned frame

The aluminium frame has been redesigned for even more cornering prowess that Aprilias are famous for. New steering bushings steepen the rake angle by 2-degrees. Additionally, there is a 2mm less offset of the triple clamps for less trail. The changes to the steering geometry results in a 4mm shorter wheelbase. Aprilia also stiffened the swingarm. These changes ought to make the bike even more nimble.

8. Öhlins, of course

The bike is suspended by fully-adjustable Öhlins NIX forks and Öhlins TTX rear shock. The forks have 5mm more travel. They are non-electronic, however.

9. “Stylo” Brembo Stylema

Hauling the RSV4 1100 Factory down from speed are Brembo’s latest Stylema brake calipers. These are smaller, lighter yet stiffer for a better feel at the lever. (Make sure you secure them!) As we mentioned earlier, owners can fit the optional carbon fibre ducts to channel cooling air to the calipers.

10. MotoGP-inspired aerobody

There are two spoilers mounted on each side of the fairing. They generate up 8 kg of downforce at 300 km/h to keep the front tyre on the road.

(more…)

  • Didi Resources will unveil the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory this weekend.

  • The event coincides with the German MotoGP.

  • The event will be held at The Podium, Sungai Penchala on 7th July 2019, from 6pm.

How about getting the chance to view the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and the German MotoGP at the same time?

Didi Resources Sdn. Bhd., the new custodian of the Aprilia brand in Malaysia will unveil the new bike to Aprilia fans and public alike. Events will continue into the evening with the viewing of the German MotoGP round.

The unveiling will commence from 6pm at The Podium, Sungai Penchala, on 7th July 2019.

The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory is the challenger to the Ducati Panigale V4. it’s now 1078cc V-Four engine produces 214 hp and 122 Nm of torque. A Bosch lithium-ion battery and Akrapovic exhaust cuts weight to only 199 kg, dry.

Apart from that, Brembo’s latest Stylema front brake calipers perform braking duties for the front. They are lighter yet more rigid than the outgoing Brembo M50 Monobloc. Gripping the discs are more aggressive brake pads. Look closely and you will notice air ducts for the front calipers.

Front forks are Öhlins NIX with 125 mm travel (5 mm more) for better cornering. An Öhlins TTX shock suspends the rear end.

The bike’s bodywork also features “aerobodies,” similar to those in MotoGP.

  • Carlin Dunne died in a crash at the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), riding the Ducati Streetfighter V4 Prototype.

  • He was in the process of setting a new record.

  • The race was won by Rennie Scaysbrook on a 2018 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100.

Rider Carlin Dunne died while racing the Ducati Streetfighter V4 Prototype at the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC).

Dunne had qualified in pole position a day earlier and everyone had tipped that he would win his fourth PPIHC race, and set the fastest ever time for a motorcycle in the “Race to the Clouds.”

All eyes the world over was on him and the Ducati as the prototype will serve as the precursor to the most powerful naked sportbike ever built. Ducati had stripped down the Panigale V4 and fitted a taller handlebar to it for the race.

Rennie Scaysbrook had set the fastest time ever previously at 9m44.963s on his 2018 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100. That time was already 5.6 seconds faster than the  9m49.625s set by Chris Fillimore on the KTM 1290 Super Duke R in 2017.

Dunne went out last and logged the fastest times in three out of four sectors. He was ahead by 1.3s in Segment 1, 2.5s in Segment 2 and nearly 4s in Segment 3. Then tragedy struck as he crashed less than 400 metres to the finish line near the highest point of the mountain.

As such, Rennie Scaysbrook won the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on the Aprilia, with his time entered as the new record. The win was Aprilia’s first in the heavyweight category.

Dunne had won the PPIHC race three times previously, all on Ducatis. He won in 2011 and 2012 on the Multistrada 1200, and last year on the Multistrada 1260. Ducati went on to produce the Pikes Peak Edition Multistradas to commemorate the rider’s achievements.

The PPIHC is where non-sportbikes battle it out for supremacy, hence you’d find bikes such as the Streetfighter, BMW S 1000 R, KTM 1290 Super Duke R, et al. Competitors are flagged off at sea level and ride up the 156-corner, 20-kilometre (12.42-mile) road to the finish line 4302 metres (14,115 feet) up the hill.

  • The Aprilia RS660 may just kick start the middleweight supersport segment.

  • Its patent filings have been leaked online.

  • The production-ready bike should debut at EICMA 2019.

The Aprilia RS660 may just kick start the dormant middleweight supersport segment. At least, that’s what the manufacturer hopes. But are they serious in putting the concept into production? Patent filings in Australia seems to indicate as so.

The CAD drawings show a bike which adheres to the concept’s silhouette, with some differences.

Firstly, the forks look to be Sachs instead of the Ohlins fitted to the concept at EICMA 2018. The front brake calipers look to be “regular” monoblocs instead of Brembo Stylemas. The main reason for these has to be about cost savings, making the bike more affordable to the masses.

But bear in mind that Aprilia usually offers different versions of their bikes i.e. standard and Factory variants. In the case of the RSV4 and Tuono V4, the Factory variants are fully kitted out in the chassis and electronics departments. It could also be true for the RS660.

Good news is, the fairings take on aerobody applications. Going further, there’s been talk that the bike features an Aprilia Active Aerodynamics (A3) system. But what it does and how it works still remains to be seen.

Anyhow, the production model is slated to be released at EICMA this year. Hope we get to test the bike for its media introduction.

  • Like beauty is subjective, so is everyone’s preference for motorcycle exhaust note.

  • V-Four engines are among the best – if not the best – sounding.

  • Listen to this Yamaha YZF-R1 and Aprilia RSV4 RF.

Just as beauty is subjective, so is everyone’s preference for motorcycle exhaust note. To bikers, the exhaust note is another aspect which stirs the sould. However, V-Fours sound the best in our books as demonstrated by this Yamaha YZF-R1 and Aprilia RSV4 RF.

Yes, yes, the Yamaha R1 isn’t a V-Four but an inline-Four, instead. But I’m sure you already know that the “crossplane” crankshaft is arranged in such a way that the engine fires like a V-Four, hence sounding like one. Or like some say, sounds like Valentino Rossi’s YZR-M1 MotoGP bike.

The crossplane crankshaft spaces the crankpins at 90ofrom each other. Therefore, the R1’s firing order mimics the firing order of a V-Four with a 180ocrank, which gives it a 270o– 180o– 90o– 180oignition timing. The irregular firing order is what gives the bike its distinctive exhaust note compared to traditional inline-Fours.

The Aprilia RSV4, on the other hand, uses a 65oV-Four with a 180ocrankshaft. As such, the firing order is a regular 180o– 115o– 180o– 245o, giving it another distinctive and gloriously LOUD(!) exhaust note.

By the way, the numbers with degrees denote the crankshaft rotation angle.

NOTE: Please ride responsibly on public roads.

  • A video surfaced of an Aprilia RS660 being tested at Imola.

  • While it wears the RSV4’s bodywork, the video is titled as RS660.

  • Will we see the revival of the middleweight supersport class?

The upcoming Aprilia RS660 middleweight supersport bike garnered plenty of attention and anticipation since its unveiling at EICMA 2018.

As the Noale-based manufacturer said before, it’s basically an RSV4 minus the rear two cylinders. That turns the engine into a parallel-Twin.

Since then, Aprilia confirmed that the bike will make production and slated for 2020. That just leaves months to go before Intermot and EICMA 2019 for the purported official launch. So, there’s still plenty of work to do.

Lately, a video surfaced in the Aprilia Cup Facebook page claiming to be the RS660 prototype undergoing testing at the Imola racetrack. You can check out the video by clicking on the link below:

https://www.facebook.com/ApriliaCup/videos/2577483428964228/

However, we’d like to point out that the bike sounded a whole like a V-Four and the fairing is that of an RSV4. However, if you could spot a rough-looking parallel-Twin just ahead of the rider’s shin. Our conclusion is that it could very well be the test mule for the RS660. Furthermore, the video is titled RS660.

As the 1000cc superbike market keeps shrinking, we are hoping to see the revival of middleweight supersport class. Not only that they are cheaper than the 1000s, their level of power is more accessible to a wider range of riders. Fingers crossed for the RS660 to be priced reasonably.

2. KTM 690 2007

Sumber: Brett Rockwell @ Flickr

Pelik bagaimana satu komponen mampu merosakkan imej keseluruhan sebuah motosikal.

3. Honda DN-01

Sumber: Ranieri Aguilar @ Flickr

4. Buel RR 1000 BattleTwin

Sumber: Catalog Master @ Flickr

Kes sama seperti BMW K1, kerana terlalu fokus dalam menghasilkan jentera yang aerodinamik, reka bentuk Buell RR 1000 BattleTwin pun boleh membuatkan individu seperti Suhaimi Saad percaya bahawa bumi ini bulat.

5. BMW R1200ST

Sumber: BSMK1SV @ Flickr

6. Aprilia Starck Moto 6.5

Sumber: Rudy Picke @ Flickr

8. Morbidelli V8

Sumber: BrENDURO @ Flickr

9. Johammer J1

Sumber: These Picture Are Entirely Bad @ Flickr

  • The 2019 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory has been upgraded.

  • More details have emerged since its launch last year.

  • One of the main highlight is the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active electronic suspension.

Updates to the 2019 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory was released last year alongside with the 2019 RS4 RR, from which the former is based on.

We’ve covered it before, but more details have emerged since over the upgrades the Tuono V4 1100 received.

Highlights:

  • The engine produces 175 bhp at 11,000 RPM and 121 Nm of torque.
  • Wet weight is only 209 kg.
  • Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active electronic suspension. (More on this.)
  • Bosch IMU-based traction control and ABS.
  • Other electronic riding aids include wheelie control, launch control, quickshifter, pit lane speed limiter and get this: Cruise control!

Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active electronic suspension:

The Ösuspension is the latest in electronic suspension evolution. It not only performs the preset duties of semi-active suspensions of the past, but the rider could tune it to achieve different objectives.

The Objective Based Tuning Interface allows you to tune, for example:

  • Less fork dive when you brake for a corner.
  • Softer damping in the middle of the corner for more grip.
  • Harder rear shock when you accelerate out of the corner.

The suspension system’s ECU takes readings from the suspension movement, brakes, throttle and IMU (lean angle, yaw angle) to formulate a solution for the current riding mode. Besides that, it not only works on the suspension, it works on the electronic Öhlins steering damper, too.

The rider can switch the system to manual mode. The suspension will then react accordingly to the present modes – Track, Sport, Road – selected by the rider.

This system was first seen on the Ducati Panigale V4 and V4 S.

Unfortunately, the Tuono V4 has always flown under the radar when it comes to naked sportbikes for some reason. That’s a real shame because it offers the raw performance that most bikes have damped out these days. Even the much-vaunted beast – the KTM 1290 Super Duke R – has mellowed, but not the Tuono. And we haven’t started on the V4 soundtrack yet!

This bike is the very essence of why we love bikes in the first place. In other words, that ability to leave everything behind including supercars without needing to sell both your kidneys.

When will it arrive it Malaysia? Soon, hopefully!
