The much awaited Triumph Speed 400 and Triumph Scrambler 400 X were launched in Malaysia, over the weekend.

Both models represent what Triumph calls the T-Series. They offer an easier accessibility into the Triumph lifestyle and incredible value, with prices starting from just RM 26,900 to RM 29,900. It may also serve as the lightweight everyday big bike for those who already bigger cc bikes, especially in the urban environment.

The range of models take their design cues from the ever-popular Triumph Bonneville 900 and 1200 lineups, thus classifying them as modern retros, or the standard motorcycle.

However, as with all Triumphs, there is nothing “standard” (read: low end) about these two bikes, despite the lower capacity and price.

Features shared by both variants:
  • All-new fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, four-valve, 398cc engine.
  • The valvetrain features low-inertia finger followers with DLC (diamond-like coating).
  • It produces 39.5 hp (40 PS) at 8,000 RPM and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM.
  • It needs to be said that although the bike and engine are produced at the Bajaj plant, they are Triumph’s specifications and designs.
  • 6-speed transmission with torque assist clutch.
  • Machined and concealed liquid-cooling fins.
  • Black powder-coated engine casings.
  • Bosch engine management with ride-by-wire throttle and traction control.
  • Bosch dual-channel ABS as standard, but the rear ABS on the Scrambler 400 X can be turned off for off-road riding.
  • Analog speedometer with integrated LCD screen.
  • All-around LED lighting, with signature Triumph DRL (daytime running light).

As the name suggests, this variant has some off-road capabilities, as such, there are several key differences to the Speed 400.

  • 43mm big piston, upside-down forks up front, 150mm travel.
  • Gas RSU monoshock with external reservoir at the back, adjustable for preload, 150mm travel.
  • 320mm front brake disc, served by a four-piston caliper. Brake hoses are steel braided.
  • Longer wheelbase compared to the Speed 400.
  • Larger steel brake pedal, and high-grip footpegs for standing riding position.
  • 179 kg wet weight.

The 35-year-old woman who stopped the vehicle she was driving before crossing the road on foot and causing the death of a motorcyclist has been remanded for two days.

Temerloh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan, said the passenger of the female vehicle involved, a 37-year-old Chinese man, was also remanded for three days to assist in the investigation.

“They were remanded from today for further investigation following the accident that involved the death of a man at the scene of the incident,” he said when contacted today.

In an incident at about 4pm yesterday at KM98.6 East Coast Highway 1 (LPT1) in the East direction, a 34-year-old man who worked as a musician at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) died after the high-powered motorcycle he was riding crashed into a Mitsubishi Triton pickup.

Preliminary investigation found that the accident occurred as soon as the pickup driver hit the brakes after the woman driving a Mitsubishi Pajero jeep stopped on the left shoulder of the road before crossing to the right of the road.

“At the same time, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 type motorcycle that the victim was riding came from behind hit the pickup, before the victim fell in the fast lane while his motorcycle was thrown into the back of the vehicle,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 304(A) of the Penal Code for negligence causing death, he said.

Seorang wanita berusia 35 tahun yang memberhentikan kenderaan yang dipandu sebelum melintas jalan sehingga menyebabkan seorang penunggang motosikal maut direman dua hari.

Ketua Polis Daerah Temerloh, Asisten Komisioner Mazlan Hassan, berkata penumpang kenderaan wanita terbabit iaitu seorang lelaki warga China berusia 37 tahun turut direman tiga hari bagi membantu siasatan.

“Mereka direman bermula hari ini bagi siasatan lanjut susulan kemalangan yang membabitkan seorang lelaki maut di lokasi kejadian,” katanya ketika dihubungi hari ini.

Dalam kejadian kira-kira jam 4 petang semalam di KM98.6 Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 1 (LPT1) arah Timur, seorang lelaki berusia 34 tahun yang bertugas sebagai pemuzik di Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) maut selepas motosikal berkuasa tinggi ditunggangnya merempuh sebuah pikap jenis Mitsubishi Triton.

Siasatan awal mendapati kemalangan berlaku sejurus pemandu pikap itu menekan brek mengejut selepas wanita terbabit yang memandu sebuah jip Mitsubishi Pajero berhenti di bahu kiri jalan sebelum melintas ke kanan laluan itu.

“Dalam masa sama, motosikal jenis Suzuki GSX-R1000 yang ditunggang mangsa datang dari arah belakang dan terus melanggar pikap itu, sebelum mangsa terjatuh di lorong laju manakala motosikalnya tercampak ke belakang kenderaan itu,” katanya.

Kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 304(A) Kanun Keseksaan kerana cuai sehingga menyebabkan kematian, katanya.

Datuk Razlan Razali plans to start a new Moto3 team and it must have a Malaysian rider. He said, “I don’t want to have only an European rider, I want Malaysian a rider as well” in the team.

He said this because there was a request from a potential investor in Europe for him to run a Moto3 team in the 2025 World Motorcycle Championship.

This is a great opportunity to include a national talent like Hakim Danish Ramli who is currently competing in the JuniorGP World Championship and the Red Bull Rookies Cup.

“Last week, there was a request from sponsors and potential investors (from Europe) asking me to come back, at least for a Moto3 team. They have a rider they want to bring in but want their own team.

“So I used that opportunity, maybe one European rider and another Malaysian rider. For me, if I want to make a Moto3 team, I don’t want the team to be all from Europe (riders), I want to include Malaysian riders as well,” he said.

Datuk Razlan also wants Zulfahmi Khairuddin who leads the ZK Racing team to participate in the project.

“I also have to get Zulfahmi’s opinion on whether I want KTM (machinery). If Moto3 is between Honda and KTM, KTM is better and things like this have to be planned well,” said Razlan.

He expects the final decision about it may be known before the Grand Prix (GP) of Kazakhstan, mid-June.

Datuk Razlan Razali bercadang memulakan yang sebuah pasukan Moto3 baharu dan ia mestilah ada seorang pelumba Malaysia. Beliau berkata, “Saya tak nak ada pelumba Eropah sahaja, saya nak pelumba Malaysia juga” di dalam pasukan itu.

Beliau berkata demikian kerana terdepat permintaan daripada pelabur berpotensi di Eropah untuk beliau mengendalikan sebuah pasukan Moto3 di dalam Kejuaraan Motosikal Dunia 2025.

Ini merupakan peluang terbaik memasukkan seorang bakat negara seperti Hakim Danish Ramli yang sedang bersaing di Kejuaraan Dunia JuniorGP dan Red Bull Rookies Cup masa ini.

“Pada minggu lalu, ada permintaan daripada penaja serta pelabur berpotensi (dari Eropah) yang meminta saya datang semula, paling tidak untuk buat pasukan Moto3. Mereka mempunyai seorang pelumba yang hendak dibawa masuk tetapi nak pasukan sendiri.

“Jadi saya gunakan peluang itu, mungkin seorang pelumba Eropah dan seorang lagi pelumba Malaysia. Bagi saya, kalau nak buat pasukan Moto3, saya tak nak pasukan itu semuanya dari Eropah (pelumba), saya nak masukkan juga pelumba Malaysia,” katanya.

Datuk Razlan turut inginkan Zulfahmi Khairuddin yang mengemudi pasukan ZK Racing untuk turut serta dalam projek berkenaan.

“Saya juga kena dapatkan pendapat Zulfahmi sama ada nak (jentera) KTM. Kalau Moto3 antara Honda dan KTM, KTM lagi bagus dan perkara seperti ini kena rancang sebaiknya,” kata Razlan.

Beliau menjangkakan keputusan muktamad mengenainya mungkin diketahui sebelum Grand Prix (GP) Kazakhstan, pertengahan Jun ini.

Motosikal CFMoto 800NK telah memenangi anugerah Red Dot Award untuk reka bentuk produk. CFMoto kini merupakan pengeluar China yang pertama yang menghasilkan enjin pembakaran dalaman (ICE) berkapasiti besar yang menerima anugerah berprestij itu.

Anugerah itu bermakna sesuatu yang istimewa bagi syarikat itu yang berpangkalan di Hangzhou, kerana mereka sedang meraikan ulang tahun ke-35 tahun ini.

800NK ialah model perdana bagi banjaran model NK. Memandangkan CFMoto ialah rakan teknikal KTM, ia menggunakan enjin berkembar selari 799cc yang dikongsi dengan 890 Duke R dan 890 Adventure.

Penganugerah itu merupakan penghormatan kepada Jabatan Reka Bentuk dan R&D CFMoto. Syarikat itu mengatakan bahawa reka bentuk motosikal mereka ditakrifkan melalui Pengarah Reka Bentuk dua roda mereka Charles Solsona, yang berpusat di Pusat R&D CFMoto di Itali.

Solsona berkata, “Memenangi anugerah Red Dot Award yang berprestij adalah penghormatan yang hebat untuk seluruh pasukan. 800NK merangkumi nilai teras jenama kami: reka bentuk, teknologi dan prestasi, dan pencapaian ini merupakan cara terbaik untuk meraikan ulang tahun ke-35 syarikat kami, serta mengiktiraf komitmen kami untuk membangunkan falsafah reka bentuk kami sendiri.”

The CFMoto 800NK wins the Red Dot Award for product design. CFMoto is now the first Chinese manufacturer of large capacity internal combustion engines (ICE) to receive the prestigious award.

The award means something special for the Hangzhou-based company, who are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year.

The 800NK is the flagship model of the NK range. As CFMoto is KTM’s technical partner, it utilises the 799cc parallel-twin engine that is shared with the 890 Duke R and 890 Adventure.

Receiving the award is an honour to the the CFMoto Design and R&D Departments. The company says that their bikes’ designs were defined through their two wheel Design Director Charles Solsona, who is based tat CFMoto’s R&D Centre in Italy.

Solsona said, “To win the prestigious Red Dot Award is a great result for the whole team. The 800NK embodies the core values of our Brand: design, technology and performance, and this achievement is a great way to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of our company, as well as recognising our commitment to developing our own design philosophy.”

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor telah melancarkan Yamaha NVX 2024, dengan empat warna baharu.

Skuter berprestasi sporty itu masih menjadi kegemaran ramai penunggang motosikal di Malaysia, walaupun telah dilancarkan sejak tahun 2017. Tujuh tahun adalah pengeluaran yang panjang, dan motosikal itu telah menyaksikan beberapa semakan kosmetik dan reka bentuk dalam tempoh itu. Populariti itu ada kaitan dengan karakter serta pengendaliannya yang sporty.

Versi standard dengan warna BLUE

Versi 2024 menampilkan empat warna bergaya, masing-masing dipisahkan kepada dua untuk setiap dua versi Yamaha NVX. Bermakna, versi standard, bukan ABS mendapat warna BLUE (Biru), atau BRONZE (Gangsa), manakala versi ABS mendapat warna CYAN SKY dan PREMIUM NAVY.

Sistem ABS-nya membuat penampilan sulungnya pada edisi 2023 dan merupakan jenis saluran tunggal yang hanya berfungsi pada roda hadapan, manakala roda belakang (masih) menggunakan brek dram. Tetapi bagi kami, mempunyai ABS di hadapan adalah lebih berguna kerana bukan mudah untuk mengawal tayar hadapan yang tergelincir!

Hong Leong Yamaha berkata warna baharu itu boleh didapati di semua pengedar sah Yamaha di seluruh negara mulai 24 April 2024. Harga runcit yang disyorkan untuk versi standard ialah RM 9,998.00, manakala versi ABS berharga RM 11,698. Harga ini bukan atas jalan. Setiap pembeli datang dengan kunci cakera brek Yamaha bernilai RM 100.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor has launched the 2024 Yamaha NVX, with four new colours.

The perky performance scooter is still a favourite among many Malaysian riders, despite being launched way back in 2017. Seven years is a long production run, and the bike has seen some revisions cosmetics and design wise during that time. That popularity has to do with its sporty demeanour and handling.

Standard version in BLUE

The 2024 version features four stylish colours, separated into two respectively for each of the two versions of the Yamaha NVX. Meaning, the standard, non-ABS version gets the Blue, or Bronze colours, while the ABS version gets the Cyan Sky, and Premium Navy colours.

Its ABS system made its debut in the 2023 edition and is single-channel which serves only the front wheel, while the rear wheel is (still) served by a drum brake. But to us, having an ABS at the front is much more useful because it is not easy to control a skidding front tyre!

The engine remains unchanged, featuring the single-cylinder, 155cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) powerplant which also powers the Yamaha Y16ZR and Yamaha YZF-R15. It produces 15 hp (11.3 kW) at 8,000 RPM, and 13.9 Nm of torque at 6,500 RPM.

ABS version in PREMIUM NAVY

The ABS version features higher-spec rear shock absorbers with sub-tank, smart key, and stop-start idling system to enhance fuel efficiency.

Hong Leong Yamaha says the new colours will be available at all authorised Yamaha dealers nationwide from 24 April 2024. The recommended retail price for the standard version is RM 9,998.00, while the ABS version is priced at RM 11,698. These prices are not on-the-road. Every buyer comes with a Yamaha disc lock worth RM 100.

Dunia motosikal telah mengalami banyak inovasi pada tahun dekad 80-an dan awal 90-an tetapi ia nampaknya sudah perlahan sejak itu. Tetapi sekarang negara China pula yang memacu inovasi. Baru minggu lepas, terdapat khabar angin berleluasa mengenai enjin motosikal 8 silinder GWM, dan lukisan daripada penyerahan paten syarikat itu disebar di internet. Terdapat juga spekulasi bahawa enjin akan didedahkan ketika Pameran Motor Beijing, yang bermula hari ini.

Kawan kami Keshy Dhillon berada di pameran itu dan nah, lihat apa yang dia temui. Prototaip enjin yang sebenar!

Ini adalah usaha GWM (Great Wall Motor) untuk bertarung untuk gelaran raja motosikal touring mewah yang dipegang oleh Honda Gold Wing. Tetapi daripada menerima beberapa format enjin yang menjadi kebiasaan seperti Boxer dan enam silinder sebaris (BMW), V-dua (CFMoto), V-empat (Yamaha dan Kawasaki), dan enam silinder bertentangan yang mendatar (flat-six yang terdapat pada Gold Wing), GWM meningkatkan taruhan kepada lapan silinder bertentangan yang mendatar (flat-eight).

Enjin motosikal 8-silinder GWM ini dipercayai sebesar kira-kira 2000cc, lebih besar daripada 1833cc Gold Wing yang terkini. Kedua-dua enjin menampilkan seni bina yang serupa, dengan transmisi terselit di bawah untuk memendekkan keseluruhan pakej. Terdapat alternator besar di bahagian belakang, dan sudah tentu, ia adalah perlu untuk menyokong semua elektrik dan elektronik penunggang dan penumpangnya akan dibawa bersama. GWM dikatakan sedang membangunkan kotak gear dwi-klac, separa automatik serupa dengan DCT Honda juga.

Apapun, terdapat sesuatu yang amat menonjol di sini: Lihatlah kualiti tuangan logam pada komponen-komponen enjin tersebut.

Tidak ditunjukkan dalam gambar-gambar ini ialah sistem injap dwi aci sesondol (DOHC) yang berada di bawah penutup injap yang digilap cantik itu. Sebagai perbandingan, Gold Wing menggunakan sistem aci sesondol tunggal (SOHC). Lukisan paten menggambarkan radiator yang dipasang di sisi, mengikut penyelesaian penyejukan Honda.

Tetapi itu sahaja enjin motosikal GWM 8-silinder yang ditunjukkan dalam pameran Beijing. Walaubagaimanapun, terdapat rakaman Pengerusi GWM menunjukkan Xiaomi SU7 yang dihadiahkan kepadanya, dan di latar belakang terdapat sebuah motosikal tourer mengintai di bawah penutup hitam.

Jadi, mari kita tunggu sedikit lagi dan lihat produk akhir.

The motorcycle world had plenty of groundbreaking innovations in the 80’s and early 90’s but that seems to have slowed down since. But let us leave it to the Chinese to do it now. Just last week, rumours were rampant of a GWM 8-cylinder motorcycle engine and the drawings from the company’s patent submissions made rounds on the internet. There was also speculation that the engine will break cover at the Beijing Motor Show, which begins today.

Well, our man Keshy Dhillon is at the show and look what he ran into. The actual prototype of the engine!

This is GWM (Great World Motor) going for the Honda Gold Wing’s jugular. But instead of settling for some established engine formats i.e. Boxer and inline-six (BMW), V-Twin (CFMoto), V-four (Yamaha and Kawasaki), and the flat-six (Gold Wing), GWM ups the ante by going eight (auspicious number for the Chinese, anyway).

The flat-eight is believed to displace approximately 2000cc, higher than the current Gold Wing’s 1833cc. Both engines feature similar architecture, with the transmission tucked underneath to shorten the entire package. There is a huge alternator toward the back, and of course, it is necessary to support all the electrical and electronics the rider and his passenger would lug along. GWM is said to be developing a dual-clutch, semi-auto gearbox similar to Honda’s DCT, too.

There are several standouts here: Check out the quality of the casting on those cases.

Not shown in these pictures are the dual-overhead cams underneath those beautifully polished valve covers, upping the Gold Wing’s SOHC. The patent drawings illustrate the side-mounted radiators, following Honda’s cooling solution.

But that was as much as the GWM 8-cylinder motorcycle engine was shown in the Beijing show. However, there was a footage of GWM’s Chairman showing a Xiaomi SU7 gifted to him, and there in the background was a touring motorcycle peeking out underneath a black cover.

So, let us wait a little further and see the final product.

Anda mungkin pernah melihat atau perasan bahawa sesetengah alat disebut-sebut sebagai IP ini, atau IP itu, dan “kalis air” atau khususnya dengan nombor seperti “IP67,” dan kalis habuk dan air. Jadi, apakah maksud “IP rating” (taraf IP) sebenarnya?

Pada pendapat kami, taraf IP bukanlah sesuatu yang boleh dipandang ringan melainkan anda tidak mengambil berat sama ada pembelian anda boleh bersesuaian dengan alam sekitar.

Jadi apakah maksud taraf IP?

Tidak, “IP” bermaksud “harta intelek” (intellectual property) dalam kes ini. Sebaliknya, istilah ini bermaksud “Perlindungan Pencerobohan” (Ingress Protection). Penilaian ini mengukur sejauh mana sesuatu peranti atau produk tahan terhadap habuk dan/atau pencerobohan air.

Berita baiknya ialah, penarafan IP tidak diberikan oleh pengilang secara sewenang-wenangnya (walaupun ada yang tidak bertanggungjawab berbuat demikian). Peranti mesti diuji oleh makmal rasmi mengikut piawaian EN 60529 oleh Suruhanjaya Elektroteknik Antarabangsa (IEC) bagi pasaran antarabangsa.

Taraf IP ditentukan sebagai:

IPXX

Secara amnya, taraf ini sebenarnya terdiri daripada tiga bahagian:

  1. IP – Ingress Protection.
  2. Huruf “X” pertama – Untuk perlindungan terhadap objek pepejal termasuk habuk dan batu.
  3. Huruf “X” kedua – Untuk perlindungan terhadap cecair.

Sila rujuk kepada rajah di bawah ini.

Oleh itu, jika alat anda mempunyai penarafan IP67, ia dilindungi daripada pencerobohan habuk dan air.

Sebaliknya, jika terdapat “X” dalam penarafan bermakna ia tidak memberikan perlindungan sedemikian atau ia tidak diuji sedemikian oleh pengilang. Sebagai contoh, produk dengan penarafan IPX4 bermakna ia tidak memberikan perlindungan terhadap pepejal tetapi dilindungi daripada percikan air. Penilaian ini biasanya untuk beg kalis air (jika tidak kalis air).

Tentang pakaian hujan pula, ada yang diuji dan ada yang tidak diuji mengikut penilaian IP. Sebaliknya mereka diuji melalui penilaian kalis air (waterproof rating) atau penilaian kebolehnafasan (breathability rating). Kami akan menyentuh perkara ini dalam artikel seterusnya.
