Yamaha Niken

Yamaha has updated its Sport Touring models for the global market with a diverse line-up of bikes ranging from 700cc – 1,300cc. What you’re looking at the moment is the 2020 Yamaha Niken and Niken GT, which are now available in some new and very cool colours (not in Malaysia, though). (more…)

The Yamaha Niken is already regarded by many as one of the craziest motorcycles to date with awesome power and handling despite having an extra wheel at the front. To the folks over at Game Over Cycles (GOC) hailing from Poland, their reckoned that they can turn its crazy factor up a few notches (with the cooperation of Yamaha Motor Poland). (more…)

  • The Yamaha Niken is already funky, but an Australian garage added a turbo.

  • It should produce 148 hp, compared to the stock 115 hp.

  • The custom paint job is a nice touch, too.

Power, power, power. It’s never enough, is it? How about the Yamaha Niken, then? Not funky enough? How about adding a turbo sound to you?

That’s exactly what Trooper Lu’s Garage in New South Wales, Australia throught when they built this world’s first turbocharged Yamaha Niken.

Yamaha Motor Australia who shared this post didn’t reveal much details. But we could see a Garrett turbocharger mounted just ahead of the rear wheel where all three exhausts merge, before exiting to the Akrapovic muffler. According to Ride Apart, such set up usually gains some 33 horsepower. The stock Niken engine – which is shared with the MT-09 – produces 115 hp. Hence it should pump out 148 hp with the turbo.

The GIVI aluminium top case complete with a pair of flasks is a nice, if not ironic, addition.

Other changes include a custom colour that’s a departure from Yamaha’s standard “racing blue.” You could also see the custom KYB forks up front.

In closing, a certain motojournalist had wheelied the standard Niken so the turbo in this one should kick the front up even higher!

The just-launched Ducati Diavel 1260 and three-wheeled Yamaha Niken won the prestigious 2019 Red Dot for Design awards in Germany.

The awards recognize the most worthy and original design and innovation, since its inception in 1955. Winners are allowed to display the Red Dot label on their products.

A jury of 40 international design experts evaluate more than 5,500 products in different categories. Among them are motorcycles, cars, electronics, furniture, watches, retail, and so forth.

But although there is a winner in each category, only the top design is awarded the Best of the Best.

The 2019 Red Dot for Design award for the Ducati Diavel 1260 means the manufacturer has now won it the third time. Previous winners from Ducati were the Panigale 1199 in 2013 and XDiavel S in 2016. So, not only do the Italian bikes look good to us, even design experts think so.

Yamaha won an award for the Niken this year, no doubt for its three-wheel design execution. It was also the third Red Dot accolade for the Japanese manufacturer. Previous winners were the MT-07 in 2015 and XSR900 in 2017.

The 2019 Yamaha Niken is powered by the same 847cc inline-three engine found in the MT-09.

We’re guessing that the mid-sized version will come ready with the 689cc twin-cylinder engine from the MT-07.
