Ketika pengeluar lain menjadikan EICMA 2019 sebagai medan memperkenalkan model baharu bagi 2020, Husqvarna mempunyai perancangan tersendiri apabila mengumumkan keputusan untuk kembali ke Moto3 musim depan.

Pasukan Max Racing, milik empat kali juara dunia 250cc, Max Biaggi, akan mengguna pakai Husqvarna FR 250 GP bagi saingan Moto3 2020 termasuk dengan sokongan penuh daripada pasukan Husqvarna Factory.

Sementara itu, Max Racing akan mempertaruhkan Romano Fenati dan Alonso Lopez bersama jentera baharu tersebut.

Pernah dengar nama Fenati? Dia merupakan pelumba yang digantung daripada menyertai sebarang perlumbaan apabila bertindak menekan brek tangan Stefano Manzi dalam saingan Moto2 di Misano musim lalu.

FIM turut bertindak menggantung lesen perlumbaannya sehingga hujung musim 2018 malah disingkirkan daripada pasukannya, Marinelli Snipers.

Bagaimanapun, Marinelli membuat kejutan apabila kembali menandatangani Fenati bagi musim 2019.

Kini, pasukan Max Racing bakal mempertaruhakn jentera baharu dengan Fenati sebagai pelumba tonggak.

PETRONAS will be the exclusive fuel supplier to the Moto3 and Moto2 classes beginning 2020. The deal is set for three years, ending in 2022.

The deal was announced by Dorna Sports, the organiser of the MotoGP World Championship.

Besides supplying fuel, the agreement also covers track advertising, which will see the PETRONAS brand displayed at race tracks around the world. These moves will increase visibility and awareness to the brand to billions of race fans around the globe.

The Malaysian petroleum giant is currently the sponsor and technical partner to the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team in MotoGP and the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Team in both Moto2 and Moto3.

Despite being the teams’ first season, Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli has done exceptionally well to win five pole positions and finished on the podium six times, with one race to go.

In the Moto3 class, John McPhee captured two poles positions, won one race and finish on the podium twice in another two. His teammate Ayumu Sasaki took one pole position.

The PETRONAS-backed teams have just completed their homecoming race at the Sepang International Circuit yesterday. The MotoGP had also won the 2019 Independent Teams Championship at the round.

Petronas Sprinta Racing mengesahkan bahawa pelumba Moto2, Khairul Idham Pawi, akan kembali beraksi di Moto3 bagi musim 2020.

KIP telah pun terlepas beberapa perlumbaan sebelum ini sejak mengalami kecederaan ketika di GP Sepanyol, Mei lalu.

Dia juga telah menjalani tiga pembedahan termasuk minggu ini di Pusat Perubatan Sukan Kuala Lumpur.

Sementara itu, Adam Norrodin akan menggantikan KIP bagi baki saingan Moto2 musim ini.

Musim 2020 Moto3 akan membuka tirai Mac tahun depan dengan pusingan pembukaan akan berlangsung di GP Qatar.

Dalam perkembangan sama, KIP akui keputusan untuk kembali ke Moto2 datang dari dirinya sendiri.

“Saya teruja kerana dapat kekal bersama pasukan sama kerana kami satu keluarga yang besar. Saya sendiri memberitahu pasukan bahawa saya mahu kembali ke Moto3 dan mereka telah melunaskan permintaan saya.

“Saya yakin ada banyak lagi yang saya mahu gapai di Moto3 dan digandingkan dengan pelumba berpengalaman (John McPhee) akan membantu saya.

“Sasaran saya musim depan adalah menempatkan diri di kelompok depan,” jelasnya.

Adam Norrodin bakal mengisi tempat Khairul Idham Pawi di Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto2 bagi perlumbaan di San Marino minggu depan.

Khairul Idham Pawi masih lagi dalam proses pemulihan selepas mengalami kecederaan tangan yang serius.

Berdasarkan portfolio, Norrodin bukanlah nama asing bagi Petronas Sprinta tatkala pernah mewakili pasukan itu di saingan Moto3 pada tahun 2016-2018.

Bagaimanapun, aksi sulung Norrodin di Litar Antarabangsa Misano minggu depan bakal menyaksikan pelumba berusia 21 tahun itu merasai buat kali pertama keupayaan enjin Triumph.

Sementara itu, pengurus pasukan, Dato Razlan Razali menyifatkan pemilihan Norrodin tepat dengan objektif pasukan dalam membentuk pelumba tempatan berkeupayaan tinggi.

“Salah satu objektif utama kami adalah melahirkan bakat muda dikalangan pelumba tempatan. Tatkala Khairul Idham Pawi masih lagi dalam tempoh pemulihan, kami berasakan Adam Norrodin layak diberi peluang untuk mencuba kelas Moto2 di peringkat tinggi.

“Kami telah menggunakan khidmat pelumba berpengalaman bagi menggantikan Pawi jadi kami telah mendapat pelbagai maklum balas dari mereka.

“Peluang ini amat penting bagi membantu Adam dalam meningkatkan lagi perkembangannya,” ujar Razlan..

  • As such, they will team up with KTM and Red Bull to form a new team in Moto3.

  • It’s a turbulent period for the Austrian manufacturer.

The Tech 3 team will also leave Moto2 in 2020 following KTM’s withdrawal.

KTM had made the announcement after the Austrian Grand Prix over the weekend. The decision was made to focus on MotoGP, while bringing the Husqvarna brand back to roadracing.

As such, Tech 3 will team up with KTM and Red Bull to form a new team in Moto3.

Tech 3 team principal Herve Poncharal says that he understands KTM position to strengthen their involvement in MotoGP and Moto3. To him, the Moto3 class is where new talents are generated for the MotoGP class.

This will the first time for Tech 3 to compete in the Moto3 class. Tech 3 was first involved with KTM in Moto2 in 2010, using the Mistral 610 engine. Their MotoGP effort switched to KTM this year after partnering with Yamaha for more than 20 years.

He also added that they have to spend the next few months to search for suitable riders.

The decision is somewhat ominous for Hafizh Syahrin, who was offered a spot in Tech 3’s Moto2 effort. His options are limited now, but there are rumours that he will take over from Khairul Idham Pawi in the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Team. Following this, Khairul Idham will be moved back to Moto3 and takes the place of Ayumu Sasaki who is leaving the team at the end of the year.

It’s also a tumultuous time for KTM with letting Hafizh Syahrin go and losing Johann Zarco a year early.

KTM announced that they will withdraw as chassis supplier in Moto2 in 2020 and return the Husqvarna brand to roadracing. However, Hafizh Syahrin was offered a seat in the Tech 3 KTM Moto2 team recently.

However, while KTM says that they will continue working with the Aki Ajo team in the Moto2 category, there’s no mention of Tech 3 anywhere. That would mean that Hafizh may face fewer options.

The manufacturer made the announcement at their “home” Austrian MotoGP round, where they signed a contract with Dorna to remain in the series for another five years. That means the factory will continue for a total of another seven years.

KTM CEO Stefan Pierer says that the decision will allow them to pool their resources and concentrate on MotoGP. The sentiment was echoed by Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director.

Putting more focus on Moto3 would do the brand some good, as well and paves the way for the return of Husqvarna to roadracing. The brand is currently owned by KTM and it’s expected that a new model albeit using KTM’s technical expertise will be unveiled.

Honda has dominated the series for the past number of seasons.

Keputusan tersebut dibuat selepas KTM bergelut dalam saingan Moto2 – meskipun Brad Binder berjaya julang KTM di laman sendiri hari ini – apabila beralih ke enjin Triumph.

KTM sebelum ini pernah beraksi di Moto3 di bawah jenama Husqvarna bagi musim 2014 dan 2015 dan berjaya menaiki podium menerusi Danny Kent, namun KTM mengesahkan akan menghasilkan jentera Husqvarna serba baharu musim depan.

Pembubaran KTM di Moto2 memberi ruang kepada mereka untuk memberikan tumpuan sepenuhnya di MotoGP selepas menandatangani kontrak lanjutan lima tahun ( dengan kontrak semasa masih berbaki dua tahun) untuk kekal dalam kelas premier.

“Kami telah membuat keputusan proaktif untuk kekal komited dalam saingan MotoGP untuk tempoh lima tahun lagi.

“Kami kini ada tujuh tahun untuk muncul sebagai pasukan tonggak di MotoGP, tempoh sama yang kami gunakan untuk memulakan dominasi di Rali Dakar,” jelas Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif (CEO) KTM, Stefan Pierer.

  • The news for a street circuit to host the Indonesia MotoGP in 2021 was met with skepticism.

  • The uninformed were of the opinion it’ll be dangerous for MotoGP riders and spectators.

  • However, the plans have already been drawn up to include safety features and approved by Dorna and FIM.

Dorna and the FIM recently confirmed that Indonesia will hold a MotoGP and WorldSBK round beginning 2021. The site chosen is in Lombok.

However, when the announcement said that it’ll be the first MotoGP “street circuit,” the news attracted the same kind of negativity in social media as everything else. There were comments such as, “If it’s going to get riders killed then they shouldn’t ride there.”

Hey, guess what? Dorna and the FIM have better brains than armchair engineers.

The skepticisms were addressed directly by Mark Huges of MRK1 Consulting along with RoadGrip Motorsport. The two international companies were appointed by the Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (IDTC) to plan, build and run the circuit.

“We are very conscious that when we announced this project there was a reasonable amount of scepticism about the concept of a street circuit,” Hughes said, during a presentation of the project at the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix.

“We have to make very clear that the track has been designed and will be built to the appropriate FIM safety standards for MotoGP.”

Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta also said that they will not compromise with safety.

“We’ve always said that we don’t race in a street circuit, but this has all the facilities of a street circuit – in a middle of a ‘city’, all the hotels will be there – but with full security (safety) for the riders,” declared Ezpeleta.

The Lombok circuit isn’t like other “street circuits” that we know of, for example Monaco and Macao. Instead, it is purpose-built for racing but opened to the public after the race. That means it is opposite of Monaco and Macao where public roads are cordoned off for racing.

“The master plan for the resort [layout] was actually finished before we got involved. And then between Roadgrip, MRK1 and ITDC we’ve tweaked that track design,” Hughes said.

“We knew we couldn’t go in and entirely change it, there had already been too much invested in that, and with the support of Dorna and also the FIM we then made some small changes to accommodate the safety requirements for a Grade A license.”

“When you arrive for the race event it will be like arriving at any other MotoGP track. It will have all the infrastructure there,” Hughes added. “But a large percentage of that infrastructure would then come out in order to turn the track back into a road network for the resort for the rest of the year.”

Infrastructure at the track will also be turned over for public use when there are no races. For example, the pit building will be used as a conference centre.

So, this is why the track is called “something special.”

Khairul Idham Pawi shocked the world when he won two Moto3 races in his debut season in 2016. He was Malaysia’s first GP race winner in any category. Both wins came during wet races, but he didn’t score well in dry races. However, he was moved up to the Moto2 category in 2017 where he languished in the tail end of the field.

As for 2019, he signed up with the Petronas Sprinta Racing Team and remains in Moto2.

Dato’ Razlan told Crash.net that Pawi had been moved to Moto2 too early. On the other hand, he’s positive that Pawi had learned a lot in those two years.

“He came to visit our Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team in Valencia. We showed him around and said, ‘look, you have two years to do something because we want you to be our first Malaysian MotoGP rider in this team.’”

Dato’ Razlan hopes that “pep talk” will spur Pawi to perform his best during the 2019 season, as there is a path for progression in the team.

Besides Hafizh Syahrin riding for the Tech 3 KTM team this year, having a Malaysian rider riding for a Malaysian team will die the country’s fans much to cheer for.
