There’ve been countless times in the past two years when riders walked away after suffering massive crashes. Marc Marquez crashed heavily at Buriram over the weekend, and was another saved by his Alpinestars airbag suit.

Marquez said that he had shut the throttle for Turn 7 on his out lap in FP1, causing the cold rear tyre to let go. The force of highside crash threw him high in the air before coming back down hard. He said he couldn’t breathe for five seconds immediately after. The trackside doctor even sent him to the hospital for CT scans to verify that he was indeed okay.

Alpinestars have released the crash data captured by the sensors in Marquez’s suit, just like after the crash involving Fabio Quartararo and Andrea Dovizioso at Silverstone not too long ago.

It’s immediately apparent that Marquez hit the ground at 26.16G. That’s 26.14 times the force of gravity. We’re not sure how much he weighs, but let’s assume it’s 80 kg. Thus 26.14 x 80 = 2091.2 kg. It means he hit the ground equivalent to weighing 2091.2 kg.

Remember that it’s not how one crashes, instead it’s how one stops in a crash that does the most damage.

Looking at the graph again, the sensors determined that Marquez was flying through the air, marked the spikes a fraction just before airbag deployment. The air bag inflated at 0.585 second before impact to cushion the blow.

Marc Marquez lived to see another day. In fact, he went on to post fastest times in practice and qualifying before winning the race and securing his eighth overall world title.

Kudos to the men and women who designed the technology.

You’d probably heard by now that Marc Marquez defends his title and is the 2019 MotoGP champion. But to put it in perspective, it was his 8th total world championship title, 6 in total in MotoGP and 4th consecutive in MotoGP. He is also the youngest champion to attain those records.

Marquez wrapped up his amazing season in Round 15 at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand yesterday. He had trailed Fabio Quartararo from the start before making his move on the last lap. Quatararo retook his lead very briefly in the last corner but was overtaken by Marquez.

It was a fitting finish for the champion on his trusty Honda RC213V. Apart for just one retirement in Austin, Texas, the pairing won eight races and finished second in the other four. The are four rounds remaining to the season.

The victory is also a special occasion for Honda as they celebrate the 60th anniversary of Honda Racing.

Marquez had won the title during his first year (2013) in the premier class, making him one of only a handful to have carried such a feat. That win also cemented his place in history as the youngest MotoGP champion.

He went on the rampage in the following year by winning the first 10 rounds consecutively, and ending the year with 13 wins and MotoGP title No. 2.

Marquez would miss out the 2015 championship, but bounced back in 2016 and never looked back since, scoring MotoGP titles No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 yesterday.

Along the way, Marquez and Repsol Honda posted 61 pole positions and won 53 times.

We fought hard when we had to and all of the team and Honda have done such an incredible job to bring us to this level. Pelumba Repsol Honda, Marc Marquez menyifatkan gaya tunggangan Fabio Quartararo bersama Petronas Yamaha mengingatkannya kepada Jorge Lorenzo.

Lorenzo menjadi pesaing Marquez ketika menyertai Yamaha pada 2013 dan berjaya meraih tiga kejuaraan dunia di kelas premier termasuk pada 2015 apabila dia berjaya menewaskan wakil Honda itu.

Seperti Lorenzo, Quartararo turut gemar memasuki selekoh dengan kelajuan tinggi.

Marquez meraih kejuaraan dunia buat kali keenam di kelas premier semalam apabila berjaya mengetepikan cabaran Quartararo di selekoh terakhir dalam perlumbaan ke garisan penamat.

Bagaimanapun, Marquez akui kagum dengan persembahan pelumba berusia 20 tahun itu meskipun ini adalah musim pertamanya di kelas premier.

“Fabio menunggang Yamaha dengan cara yang cukup bagus. Dia mengingatkan saya kepada Jorge Lorenzo ketika bersama Yamaha.

“Hari ini (semalam), dia berlumba dengan baik, dia sangat laju di sepanjang perlumbaan tetapi kami memiliki enjin yang lebih laju tetapi di bahagian selekoh, jentera Quartararo mempunyai cengkaman yang lebih baik.

“Saya yakin dia akan menjadi antara pencabar utama kejuaraan musim depan,” katanya.

Pelumba Repsol Honda, Marc Marquez, mengesahkan kejuaraan dunia kali kelapan – enam di kelas premier – selepas berjaya mengetepikan saingan Fabio Quartararo di GP Thailand, hari ini.

Musim 2019 menampilkan aksi paling mantap oleh Marquez apabila berjaya merekodkan 14 podium dan sembilan kemenangan sekaligus muncul juara meskipun kalendar MotoGP masih berbaki empat perlumbaan – Jepun, Australia, Malaysia dan Valencia.

Pencapaian ini turut menyaksikan Marquez menyamai rekod enam kejuaraan di kelas premier dipegang Mick Doohan dan hanya satu dibelakang Valentino Rossi dan dua di belakang Giacomo Agostini.

Dia turut muncul pelumba keempat selepas  Rossi, Doohan dan Agostini untuk merekodkan empat kejuaraan berturut-turut.

Pelumba Petronas SRT,  Fabio Quartararo, terpaksa berpuas hati di kedudukan kedua tatkala tidak mampu mengekang asakan Marquez.

Bagaimanapun, pelumba berusia 20 tahun itu perlu berbangga dengan pencapaiannya musim ini apabila hanya dibezakan dua mata daripada Rossi untuk menduduki tempat ketujuh di carta kejuaraan musim ini.

Pengurus Petronas SRT, Dato Razlan Razali,t mengakui pernah dihujani kritikan susulan memilih Quartararo bagaimanapun pencapaian pelumba muda itu ternyata menutup mulut pengkritik.

Sementara itu, tempat ketiga jadi milik Maverick Vinales dari pasukan Yamaha.

 

 

Selepas aksi di Mugello, Jorge Lorenzo telah terbang ke ibu pejabat Honda di Jepun bagi mencari jalan terbaik untuk mencapai keserasian dengan jentera RC213V.

Bagaimanapun, dia kemudiannya terlepas empat aksi perlumbaan susulan kemalangan di Assen.

Aksi terumbang-ambing bersama Honda musim ini mula menimbulkan desas-desus bahawa Lorenzo telah menghubungi Ducati dan Petronas Yamaha dalam percubaan untuk meninggalkan pasukannya.

Namun, segala khabar angin itu terkubur apabila dia membuat keputusan untuk menghormati kontrak dua tahun bersama Honda sekaligus akan kekal sehingga musim 2020.

Tatkala rakan sepasukan, Marc Marquez, menampilkan aksi mantap di setiap litar, Lorenzo gagal menamatkan saingan di kedudukan lebih baik daripada tempat ke-14 dalam tiga perlumbaan berturut-turut.

Meskipun terbukti Honda menghasilkan jentera lebih berkuasa musim ini menerusi dominasi Marquez, Lorenzo pula menyatakan bahawa penambahbaikan yang dilakukan terhadap bahagian enjin membuatkan jentera musim ini lebih teruk.

Bagaimanapun, dia mengharapkan Honda akan ‘memperbaiki’ aspek tersebut menjelang musim 2020.

“Saya sendiri telah bercakap dengan Pengarah Teknikal, Takeo Yokoyama dan amat jelas disebabkan mengejar kuasa yang lebih tinggi telah memberi kesan terhadap prestasi jentera ketika melalui selekoh.

“Tetapi Marc (Marquez) berjaya menggunakan kelebihan ini sehingga senario di selekoh tidak memberi kesan terhadap prestasinya.

“Ketika saya menguji jentera ini di Jerez, saya dapat mengesan sesuatu ketika melalui selekoh tetapi ketika itu sudah lambat untuk membuat perubahan drastik.

“Kita semua tahu Marc ada gaya tunggangan yang cukup agresif jadi prestasi jentera sedia ada ketika ini amat sesuai dengan gayanya,” jelas Lorenzo.

Aksi MotoGP akan kembali bersambung di GP Thailand, 6 Oktober ini.

Pelumba Honda, Marc Marquez, menampilkan aksi mantap sebaik perlumbaan bermula apabila kekal di kedudukan pertama sehingga ke pusingan akhir.

Sementara tempat kedua dan ketikga menjadi milik wakil Ducati, Andrea Dovizioso dan Jack Miller.

Marquez menoktahkan kemenangan sebaik perlumbaan bermula apabila tiada cabaran yang berjaya ditampilkan pesaing lain.

Pelumba Sepanyol itu menamatkan saingan dengan catatan masa 41 minit 57.221 saat sekaligus mengesahkan kemenangan kelapan musim ini.

Keputusan tersebut turut menyaksikan Marquez menerajui kejuaraan musim ini dengan perbezaan 98 mata daripada pencabar terdekat, Dovizioso.

Sementara itu, wakil tunggal negara, Hafizh Syahrin sekadar menamatkan perlumbaan di tempat terakhir.

Dalam perkembangan lain, saingan Moto2 menyaksikan wakil Red Bull KTM Ajo, Brad Binder muncul juara selepas mengetepikan cabaran Jorge Navarro (kedua) dan Alex Marquez (ketiga).

Manakala, kelas Moto3 berjaya dimenangi Aron Canet daripada Sterilgarda Max Racing Team diikuti Ai Ogura kedua dan Dennis Foggia, ketiga.

Aksi MotoGP bakal bersambung pada 6 Oktober depan di Litar Antarabangsa Chang, Thailand.

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and MotoGP champion Marc Marquez may get a head-to-head showdown on bikes soon.

It started when Marquez said during an interview with the Daily Mail that he welcomes a race with Hamilton. “Of course! It would be interesting,” he said. “Face-to-face, first an F1 car and then a motorbike because I know he (Hamilton) is riding.”

Marquez continued, “I speak to him by social media sometimes and I know he rides a bike and rides really well. So I look forward to, at a minimum, meeting him. We were very close (to a race) last year but we had compromises and couldn’t make it work.”

Hamilton has replied to Marquez’s “challenge” by replying “Let’s go bro! Can’t wait to meet and ride together sometime” in an Instagram post.

The five-time F1 champ is an avid rider and has tried his hand at riding the WorldSBK PATA Yamaha YZF-R1 alongside Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark.

Apart from that, he is the ambassador for MV Agusta who built the F4 LH44 and Brutale 800RR LH44 as tributes to the champ.

Now, Marquez’s team Repsol Honda has also issued a challenge to Hamilton in a Twitter post saying, “So Mr. Lewis Hamilton we hear you’re up for a bit of a challenge?”

We’ll see what transpires next. It was reported that the deal didn’t go through the last time due to sponsorship since Marquez is sponsored by Red Bull while Hamilton is sponsored by Monster Energy.

Pelumba Petronas Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo mendakwa kemalangan yang menimpanya berlaku daripada kesilapan Alex Rins yanng memintasnya di selekoh pertama.

Quartararo mengalami insiden ‘highside’ lalu terbabas yang turut menyaksikan jenteranya dilanggar Andrea Dovizioso.

Dovizioso terpaksa dikejarkan ke hospital susulan mengalami hilang ingatan sementara apabila mengalami hentakan kuat susulan perlanggaran tersebut.

Quartararo kemudiannya menjelaskan bahawa kemalangan tersebut berlaku disebabkan Alex Rins yang hampir hilang kawalan.

Disebabkan mahu mengelak, pelumba Perancis itu telah melepaskan pendikit secara mengejut lalu mencetuskan kejadian ‘highside’. Quartararo menegaskan dia tidak akan terbabas jika Rins tidak melakukan kesilapan itu.

“Rins memintas saya di selekoh pertama tetapi dia mula hilang cengkaman di bahagian tayar belakang jadi saya telah melepaskan pendikit dengan agresif bagi mengelak daripada melanggarnya.

Aksi di Silverstone menyaksikan Rins berjaya merekodkan kemenangan kedua musim ini selepas Austin apabila dia berjaya memintas pendahulu kejuaraan, Marc Marquez di selekoh terakhir.

Tempat ketiga jadi milik pelumba Yamaha, Maverick Vinales sementara rakan sepasukan, Valentino Rossi yang bermula di petak kedua, meraih tempat keempat.

Dalam perkembangan lain, pengurus pasukan Ducati, Davide Tardozzi, memaklumkan bahawa Dovizioso telah diterbangkan ke hospital di Coventry untuk menjalani pengimbasan.

“Dia hilang ingatan untuk tempoh 15 hingga 20 minit.

“Dovi turut mengalami kesakitan di pinggul kanan namun doktor mengesahkan tiada sebarang keretakan berlaku.

“Kita tunggu keputusan imbasan tersebut dan diharapkan dia bebas daripada sebarang masalah,” katanya.

The British MotoGP 2019 saw Alex Rins (Ecstar Suzuki MotoGP) pip Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) at the finish line for the victory.

Marquez, Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Rins stormed off the grid at the start, but it didn’t take long for Marquez to lead the race. Rins didn’t take long to overtake Rossi for second position not long after. He chased down Marquez and started shadowing the world champion for lap after lap.

Rins had used the Suzuki GSX-RR’s superior to close with Marquez’s Honda RC213V which had better acceleration and top speed.

The duo started trading places a number of times in the third act of the race, but Marquez fought back every single time. Rins stayed close and slipstreamed the Honda to pip Marquez by just 0.013 second. It was the closest finish in MotoGP’s history.

The battle allowed Maverick Vinalez (Monster Energy Yamaha) to catch up after dispatching his teammate Rossi many laps earlier. He would eventually finish in third, just 0.620 second behind Marquez.

The anticipated showdown among Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso (Mission Winnow Ducati) and Fabio Quartararo (PETRONAS Sepang Racing Team) did not materialize as Quartararo crashed at the start and his bike took out Dovizioso’s. The latter’s bike flew into the air upon contacting the Yamaha and threw him into the air. He landed heavily and continued rolling off the track, while his Ducati ruptured its fuel tank and exploded into flames. The Italian was sent to mobile clinic for checks afterwards.

Dovizioso’s team announced that although he had not suffered any broken bones, he’s sent to the Coventry Hospital for further checks after a severe blow to his head caused him to lose short term memory.

The newly resurfaced Silverstone provided the thrills expected, especially in a hectic Moto3 race.

Marc Marquez now leads the championship with 250 points, 78 points from Dovizioso at 172 points and Alex Rins with 149 points. There are seven rounds to go.

Pelumba Ducati, Andrea Dozioso muncul juara di GP Austria selepas berjaya memintas pendahulu kejuaraan, Marc Marquez di selekoh terakhir.

Sementara pelumba Petronas Yamaha SRT, Fabio Quartararo, melengkapkan podium ditempat ketiga selepas berjaya mengetepikan cabaran wakil Yamaha, Valentino Rossi (keempat) dan Maverick Vinales (kelima).

Quartararo berjaya mendahului kelompok depan buat sementara waktu apabila Marquez dan Dovizioso tersasar di selekoh pertama namun mudah dipintas kedua-dua pelumba sejurus selepas itu.

Dovioso menamatkan perlumbaan dengan catatan masa 39 minit 34.771 saat.

Keputusan itu menandakan Red Bull Ring sebagai satu-satunya litar dalam kalendar MotoGP yang masih gagal ditawan Marquez.

Meskipun tidak tergolong dalam perebutan tempat pertama dan kedua, Quartararo menampilkan aksi konsisten sepanjang perlumbaan untuk merekodkan podium ketiganya musim ini.

Lebih manis, pelumba satelit Yamaha itu berjaya mengetepikan cabaran Rossi dan Vinales.

Marquez kini mendahului kejuaraan dengan 230 mata, 58 mata dihadapan Dovizioso diikuti Danilo Petruci ketiga dengan 136 mata.

Dalam perkembangan lain, Brad Binder berjaya merekodkan kemenangan manis buat KTM dalam aksi Moto2 setelah pengeluar motosikal Austria itu mengumumkan tidak lagi akan beraksi di segmen itu musim depan bagi memberi tumpuan kepada kelas premier.

Tempat kedua dan ketiga jadi milik Alex Marquez dan Jorge Navarro setelah Luca Marini dan Enea Bastini terlibat kemalangan dengan perlumbaan berbaki lima pusingan.

Aksi Moto3 pula menyaksikan pelumba VNE Snipers melengkapkan kemenangan satu dua menerusi Romano Fenati dan Tony Arbolino sementara wakil Petronas SRT, John McPhee melengkapkan podium dengan tempat ketiga.

Marc Marquez yang mengambil risiko dalam penggunaan tayar ketika sesi kelayakan di litar Brno semalam berjaya merekodkan petak pertama buat kali ke-58 sekaligus menyamai rekod disandang Mick Doohan.

Pelumba Repsol Honda itu memilih untuk menggunakan tayar jenis ‘slick’ meskipun hujan baharu sahaja berhenti dan berjaya mencatat masa 2 minit 02.753 saat – 2.524 saat lebih pantas berbanding Jack Miller daripada Pramac Ducati.

Sementara itu, pelumba Perancis, Johan Zarco – yang berjaya melepasi sesi kelayakan pertama buat julung kalinya musim ini – berjaya membawa pasukan KTM menduduki petak ketiga.

Dalam perkembangan sama, pencabar terdekat Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) yang ketinggalan 58 mata di belakang, bakal bermula di petak keempat.

Pendahulu kejuaraan MotoGP, Marc Marquez menyifatkan pesaing utamanya memasuki separuh musim 2019 adalah pelumba Yamaha dan bukannya Ducati.

Sementara itu, Marquez berpendapat insiden di Barcelona – dengan Jorge Lorenzo, Dovizioso, Vinales dan Valentino Rossi mengalami kemalangan – mengubah senario perebutan kejuaraan musim ini.

“Saya dan Dovizioso dibezakan dengan dua kemenangan.

“Sudah tentu Ducati akan kembali lebih kuat tetapi ketika ini pesaing utama adalah kedua-dua pelumba Yamaha, Vinales dan Quartararo.

“Saya berasakan mereka (Yamaha) akan kembali lebih laju memasuki separuh kedua musim ini,”jelas Marquez.

Pada masa sama, Petrucci bersetuju Vinales kini menjadi halangan utama Ducati.

“Ketika ini saya gembira dengan keadaan semasa, menduduki tempat ketiga keseluruhan/

“Tetapi masalahnya sekarang Vinales berjaya mengutip beberapa mata penting jadi untuk bersaing kami perlukan jentera yang lebih baik,” katanya.
