The 2019 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure may not be a big surprise after the launch of the 2019 BMW R 1250 GS in September.

However, the Adventure version (popularly called “GSA”) is an important variant for the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer. The GSA is the long-distance adventure tourer of the two.

Also as expected is the use of the new 1254cc Boxer with ShiftCam engine. The new brings power output to 136 bhp and 143 Nm of torque, as compared to the 1198cc Boxer which produced 125 bhp and 125 Nm.

As for the electronics, the 2019 R 1250 GS Adventure will be equipped with Hill Start Control (HSC) and Automatic Stability Control (ATC) as standard. The optional “Riding Modes Pro” package adds two extra riding modes (Enduro and Enduro Pro), plus Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).

Cornering ABS is also an option called ABS Pro. A new option called Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) is available to customers. It automatically modulates the throttle so the drive torque utilizes the torque at the rear wheel for more stability while braking.

There are many more add-on options but LED lighting is now standard. Additionally, the GSA gains the 6.5” TFT screen.

The main difference between the GSA and GS versions is the former has a larger fuel capacity. The new GSA carries 30 litres.

On the flip side, all the upgrades come with an 8kg weight penalty. The 2019 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure weighs a hefty 268kg with 90% fuel, ready to ride.

  • The 2019 BMW S 1000 RR patent image and spec sheet were leaked online.

  • The bike is all-new with a new styling and chassis.

  • Power output will also be increased.

It would probably not surprise anyone now that BMW Motorrad is working on the 2019 BMW S 1000 RR. But what is up for contention is how will the new bike look like.

Well, a BMW dealer seemed to have gotten a little too excited and posted both the official patent application image and full spec sheet of the 2019 S 1000 RR online. The new superbike was supposed to be officially launched at the EICMA show in a week’s time.

There is just so much to pore over the image, but the new bike definitely points the way towards improvements by leaps and bounds.

For starters, the 2019 model is much more compact. Its tail is shortened and made smaller. The front wheel sits closer to the bottom fairing, while the rear wheel is much nearer to the bike’s midsection.

Its bodywork has been designed from scratch and seems to wrap around the chassis and engine very tightly. BMW has also dropped the asymmetric headlights for a matching pair. The central air intake still exists for the sake of heritage from the previous model. The fuel tank’s shape is still unmistakably S 1000 RR.

The new frame is just visible. Starting from the swingarm mounting uprights, it projects almost horizontally above the engine casings before sweeping upwards to the headstock. It looks like the frame hugs the engine very closely, too.

We were actually surprised to find an exposed steel trellis section for the rider seat’s subframe. BMW has used box-section subframes all the while. The steel trellis looks like something from KTM, MV Agusta, Triumph, among others.

Take a closer look and you can see the swingarm is braced from underneath. While this design is nothing new, it is currently employed in MotoGP only. All other superbikes have their swingarms braced on top, conversely. Manufacturers choose the top bracing method as space is needed to accommodate the exhaust collector. Yet, BMW found a way to overcome this problem.

The engine is still an inline-Four, but it now says “207 bhp” in the spec sheet. Torque is also up to 113 Nm.

Well, let’s wait another week for the official photos and specs from BMW Motorrad.

  • The BMW r nine T Scrambler is BMW Motorrad’s answer to the “scrambler revolution.”

  • It shares the same chassis and engine architecture with other r nine T’s.

  • But it is meant for light off-roading.

BMW has been steadily adding new variants to the r ninet T heritage line-up since its introduction in 2013. The BMW r nine T Scrambler was introduced in 2016, on the other hand, to offer buyers a scrambler option from other manufacturers.

The r nine T Scrambler is meant for light off-roading fun, and thereby wears a 19-inch front wheel. Customers can opt for tubeless spoked-wheels.

The bike is powered by the previous generation BMW oil-cooled, horizontally-opposed Twin “Boxer.” The engine is the common platform which the r nine T range is built around. It produces 110 bhp and a huge 116 Nm of torque.

As with all BMW Boxers, power is sent through a six-speed transmission and a Paralever-controlled driveshaft on its way to the back wheel.

The standout feature of the Scrambler among the r nine T line-up is the high-mounted dual exhaust pipe tips.

We have since tested almost every variant of the r nine T including the (base) r nine T, r nine T Racer, and r nine T Urban G/S, but this time, BMW Motorrad Malaysia extended an r nine T Scrambler for the ride to the recent Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2018 in Melaka.

This r nine T Scrambler was extra special, by the way, as it wears the BMW Motorrad Community fuel tank. It is covered in signatures of BMW motorcycle owners. (I was extra careful with the bike, I swear.)

The ride consisted of a good mix of highway, trunk road and urban riding, giving us a good taste of the r nine T Scrambler’s capabilities and versatility.

Out on the highway, the bike drones along at 110 – 140 km/h, with a soft rumble accompanying us. However, the Akrapovic pipes on this one this one sure had plenty of bark, which sounded a lot like a group of piston-engine fighter planes when mixed with other r nine Ts.

The r nine T Scrambler doesn’t like being rushed during highway rides. Instead, it’s big torque should be put to great use to cruise and overtake other vehicles with ease. You could keep it in 6th gear all the way down to 60 km/h, and a twist of the throttle would have the bike roaring back up to speed in a hurry.

But it’s on country roads where the bike comes into its own. Here, the wave of torque accelerates you from corner to corner in a quick yet smooth fashion. It soon became addictive as the exhausts sing “the Boxer rumble” when you grab fistfuls of throttle at corner exits.

Handling is commendable although it could benefit with some more suspension tuning, as it felt a little harsh over sharp bumps. The “relaxed” chassis geometry requires you to trace graceful long arcs through corners. You can hard-flick the bike but without the chassis complaining, though. However, if blasting corners is your game, the base r nine T is the better option with its sport-oriented suspension.

BMW R nineT Review – You Have the Power

But that doesn’t mean the r nine T Scrambler is bad. The bike is made for relaxed and unrushed riding. Treating it as a sportbike is just wrong.

We rode into the Melaka city centre on a couple of occasions and we were thankful for the bike’s torque and upright sitting position. Its torque allows you to hold on to higher gears even at low speeds and that smoothens out your riding.

Characteristic of BMW’s Boxers, it was also easy to maneuver at low speeds. Those cylinders that jut out into the breeze provide low-down stability; while the crankshaft which spins longitudinally along the bike’s centre line produces its own centrifugal force to keep the bike upright even at very low speeds.

The r nine T Scrambler is as pure as it gets, being a heritage model. Apart from ABS and fuel injection, there is no ride mode or traction control. Consequently, you feel as a part of the bike instead of the feel being filtered through a gaggle-load of electronics.

The BMW r nine T Scrambler sells for RM 88,900 inclusive of SST but no on the road.

  • The 2019 BMW S 1000 RR superbike was caught undergoing road trials.

  • BMW Motorrad then released a teaser video a few days after that.

  • The new bike will be unveiled at the EICMA show in November.

BMW has announced that will launch nine new models for 2019 and a new 2019 BMW S 1000 RR is one of them.

There have been many speculations, as usual, plus a patent filing which was leaked but a Spanish BMW Motorrad dealer caught sight of the prototype undergoing road tests.

Referring to the photos, the design has definitely undergone some changes but still retains some of the S 1000 RR’s defining features.

The central air intake, “split” fairing panel, seats and fork bottoms are the dead giveaways of the old bike, but new are the symmetrical headlamps, front turnsignals that are integrated into the rearview mirrors.

The new engine is reported to produce 210 bhp but the biggest change is the counter-rotating crankshaft. There is also a possibility of variable valve timing on the cards.

There are also rumblings of the 2019 S 1000 RR with different options and trims for different needs. It is a good call, in our opinion, as not all riders are track riders and may not access every single function a bike provides. It represents some cost savings for them, too.

However, if the leaked photos caused a sensation, BMW Motorrad has also released a teaser video, “promising” to unveil the new bike at the EICMA show at Milan, Italy in November.

  • Amirul Hafiq Azmi and the TOC HKM Racing Team scored four straight wins in the final rounds of the 2018 Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSC 2018).

  • Riding his BMW S 1000 RR, the 21-year-old was crowned the 2018 overall champion for the Superstock category.

  • For Superbike, Mohd Ramdan Rosli and Muhammad Jamalul Tarmizi fought brilliantly against the top 3 riders and secured multiple podium finishes.

It has been an amazing weekend for the TOC HKM Racing Team in the final two rounds of the Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship 2018 (MSC).   • BMW Motorrad Malaysia had introduced the 2018 BMW F 850 GS.

  • It was unveiled at the BMW Motorrad Nightfuel lifestyle event in Johor Bahru.

  • No price has been announced but the bike will be available from November 2018.

The much-awaited 2018 BMW F 850 GS mid-range adventure motorcycle has been introduced at BMW Motorrad Nightfuel in Johor Bahru.

The F 850 GS is all-new from the ground up and now features a distinctive look besides a bevy of new features, as BMW’s weapon in the middleweight adventure wars.

No prices have been released as of yet and it shall be available from November 2018 onwards.

Principle of the F 850 GS

First introduced in 2007, the GS version of the F-series follows the formula set by its granddaddy, the R80G/S. It was the R80G/S which singlehandedly started the adventure-touring segment. “Gelande Strasse” means off-road/road in German.

Compared to the R 1200 GS, the F-series GS models represent bikes that are simpler, lighter, more accessible as well as more affordable and easier to work on.

Styling

The F 850 GS’s predecessor may resemble the flagship R 1200 GS in many ways, but it now looks more distinctive while remaining tie to its bigger brother.

For example, the new bike a new asymmetrical headlamp and GS “flyline” that announces itself as a member of the GS family. There is also a new “beak” ahead of the healight.

Odd corners and edges around the fuel tank and seat have been removed to improve off-road riding. The windshield can be exchanged for off-road or road-riding.

In a nutshell, the 2018 F 850 GS is much sharper-looking than before.

Engine

The engine has been revised for increased performance while optimizing fuel efficiency.

While It is still a parallel-Twin (for more compactness), it now displaces 853cc with a 270o crankshaft to mimic the firing interval of a 90o V-Twin for optimum and smooth torque characteristics. The new firing order also results in a growling exhaust note. Engine vibrations are quelled by two balancer shafts.

Its maximum power has increased to 95 bhp (75 kW) at 8,250 RPM and 92 Nm of torque at 6,250 RPM. There is a 2,000 RPM spread between maximum torque and maximum horsepower, illustrating a flexible engine.

A slipper clutch has been added to the new bike while the final drive has been moved to the left side.

Frame and chassis

The “bridge” frame is made of deep-drawn and welded components. The engine is mounted as a stressed element. The fuel tank has been moved to a more customary position from underneath the seat on previous models. Doing do optimizes mass centralization.

The front is suspended by nwq upside-down forks with a new monoshock at the rear.

The biggest change for the F 850 GS’s rolling stock, however, are the new cross-spoke wheels that allow for tubeless tyres.

Ergonomics

The F 850 GS’s ergonomics have been designed to accommodate a wider range of riders. BMW has made the seat height lower while still retaining large ground clearance. The rider triangle – relation among the handlebars, seat and footrest – have been revised.

Electronics

The “Road” and “Rain” riding modes are standard. However, customers may add the Pro option which extends riding modes to “Dynamic,” “Enduro” and “Enduro Pro.” Additionally, ABS and ASC (Automatic Stability Control) allow for greater safety.

There is also a new TFT screen.

Optional equipment and accessories

BMW offers a wide range of optional Original BMW Motorrad accessories for the F 850 GS.

Customers can choose ex-work packages such as Comfort, Touring, Dynamic, Lights according to their needs.

BMW offers three colour schemes, namely Exclusive, Rallye and Racing.
