Famed British motorcycles manufacturer Triumph is ending the 2015 business year (which ended on 30 June 2015) on a high note after recording increased profitability compared to its performance in 2014.

Despite the challenging market climate, the British marque raised £10.3 million with its efforts, of which it recorded a £2.3 million in profits alone. This is a healthy recovery following a dismal 2014 performance where it recorded a loss £8 million. Reinforcing this is the fact that the brand also recorded healthy growth in 2015 in areas beyond its finances.

Firstly, the brand set out to enlarge its global footprint this year, and spearheading this was the revised Triumph Tiger 800 model that features six variants altogether. Also fuelling the growth was the introduction of four special edition versions of the outgoing air-cooled Triumph Bonneville classic bike.

The firm also released other special editions this year for models such as the Street Triple, Speed Triple and Speed Triple R, followed by the Thunderbird and the anniversary edition of the Rocket X. It is also worth noting that like the Bonneville, the Speed Triple series is being replaced with the updated new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R models for 2016.

Beyond its model range expansion, Triumph also recorded a growth in several of its networks overseas such as India and Brazil. Presently, Triumph boasts a healthy India-based dealer network across 12 cities, resulting in the brand’s 13% market share growth there as well, followed by a 10% market share rise in Brazil too. Adding to this was the commencement of its sales and distribution in Thailand starting April this year, further cementing the Triumph brand’s overseas market presence too.

With a sleuth of new models set for market release in 2016, Triumph is expected to perform even better in the new year too. Leading this charge are several core models starting with new liquid-cooled Bonneville family, followed by the revised Speed Triple duo, not forgetting the updated iteration of its flagship Tiger Explorer range as well.

The Malaysia 2Wheels Festival returns for its third instalment this weekend.

Organised and launched by WSF Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd back in September, this year’s running set out with several missions at hand whilst tying itself up with the monthly KL Car-Free Morning initiative.

The event this year is supported by several key partners including government bodies such as Tourism Malaysia, the Ministry of Youth & Sports (KBS), the Department of Road Safety (JKJR), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), as well as the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and its youth squad called the ‘Skuad Muda JPJ Malaysia’.

The event is split into two areas of its venue, which is the CIDB Convention Centre, with one part held outdoors and the other being indoors.

A tour of the indoor section reveals the presence of several manufacturers and their key dealer representatives. Amongst them include big names such as Moto Guzzi Malaysia,BMW Motorrad Malaysia, Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia via autohrised distributors Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd, the newly consolidated KTM Malaysia represented by dealer Kamalia Motoworld Sdn Bhd, as well as Kawasaki Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (KMMSB) represented by its super dealer Wilhin Motor (M) Sdn Bhd.

Also present here were several OEM brands and representatives. Leading this pack were the UK’s K-Tech suspension brand and its local distributor Kratos Motorsports. The specialist distributor is holding a special sale that sees all K-Tech products it carries enjoying a 10% discount throughout the festival’s duration, so for those in search for the optimum suspension setup for your bikes, this could be a good time indeed.

Moving along outside, there were several smaller vendors present here alongside a vast line up of F&B stalls too. However, all eyes were on the event’s main draw for Saturday, that being its Malaysia Book of Records attempt at organising the largest gathering of Yamaha RX-Z motorcycles.

The move was meant to celebrate the model’s 30th anniversary in Malaysia, and the turn out was indeed impressive. Besides owners from the greater Klang Valley areas, much of the gathering saw the arrival many Yamaha RX-Z owners from out of state too.

Despite the rainy season getting the best of most, the gathering was indeed a success as it charted a record entry with a total of 2,277 Yamaha RX-Zs in the gathering, securing its spot in the record books in the process too.

2016 is looking pretty good for British marque Triumph so far.

The famed Hinckley-based brand first got its ball rolling when it introduced the fully revamped Triumph Bonneville range towards the end of October, followed by the refreshed Speed Triple model just weeks before EICMA 2015 opened its doors.

Now, the firm is strengthening itself further for 2016 after it introduced the refreshed range-topping Triumph Explorer model for 2016. This mid-life refresher sees the flagship dual-sport gaining with a series of new kit and features, with much of the updates mirroring what Triumph did with the smaller Tiger 800 range last year indeed.

For 2016, the Triumph Tiger Explorer will be available in six variants altogether – XC, XCx, XCa, XR, XRx and XRt. The range is separated simply by the fact that the XR range is optimised more for road and street whilst the XC line-up boasts more off-road optimisation instead.

All six models share the same 1,215cc inline three-cylinder 12-valve powerplant; all of which standing rather unique in the class thanks largely to the cylinder configuration it boasts, along with the shaft-drive layout as well. The looming Euro4 legislation prompted Triumph to update the Explorer’s engine in order for it to be compliant in two fronts of said legislation: emissions and noise.

Triumph remains rather coy about the mechanical changes, but sources online report that the powertrain has received a completely new exhaust system accompanied by a larger new catalytic converter, ride-by-wire software, as well as a hike in both power and torque figures too.

Like the smaller Tiger 800 range that was updated for 2015, the 2016 Tiger Explorer gains with a host of tech upgrades aimed at improved stability and control. These include Triumph’s first ever semi-active suspension primed in all but the two base XR and XC variants, followed by other features such as cornering ABS and traction control, four selectable pre-set rider modes available plus an additional fifth riding mode which riders can tailor to their own settings.

Also updated is the ABS system with entry-level models offering switchable ABS and traction control whilst the remaining four models gaining further with the aforementioned advanced cornering ABS and traction control suites. These four models are also further primed with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which uses an array of sensors to measure five axes of movement: including lean angle, acceleration and deceleration ensuring the traction control and ABS suites are at their most optimal level of performance. There is also the option of a Hill Hold Control (HHC) feature that electronically holds the brakes on to stabilise the bike during hill start.

Other notable changes here include a mild exterior styling revamp, the presence of heated grips and seat, an adjustable windscreen, plus a rich choice of luggage as well. Overall, Triumph have indeed granted its flagship dual-sport adventure bike with a much more complete package for 2016, allowing it to stack up well against new and improved rivals such as the new Ducati Multistrada Enduro.

After treating fans worldwide with the debut of the all-new Bonneville classic, Triumph has kept its momentum going by revealing the new and improved 2016 Triumph Speed Triple streetfighter range ahead of this month’s EICMA 2015 expo.

We’ve already seen spyshots and reported of the possible updates the new Speed Triple would get, and the result is this heavily revised version for 2016. Firstly, the new models carries new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R naming schemes for 2016.

Crucially, both versions retain the outgoing model’s chassis but does gain with an extensive update package revolving around its on board electronics and powertrain. Complementing that are a host of mild cosmetic enhancements comprised of sleeker bodywork inspired from the Daytona 675R and a new seat design as well.

For the 2016 model, the Speed Triple gains with a revised 1,050cc triple-cylinder heart that boasts 104 new development. It now offers more power and torque across its entire rev range with fuel efficiency improved by 10%. Highlights here are a new combustion chamber and cylinder head, new machined crank, redesigned pistons and the adoption of new ride-by-wire throttle bodies.

The engine and radiator has been narrowed down in size too with Triumph says grants the entire package with a 20mm narrower standover. Other new bits include a slipper clutch, a smaller new radiator, as well as a revised exhaust system that Triumph claims to have an improved flow rate of 70%.

Triumph has yet to release the official power and torque figures, but sources believe the 2016 Triumph Speed Triple’s revised heart will have at least 140hp.
Perhaps the biggest improvement incorporated in the 2016 Speed Triple is its heavily revamped electronics suite. The update primes the 2016 model with a new ECU and an adjustable ride-by-wire throttle with changeable throttle maps. As a result, the new bike now offers five selectable riding modes: Road, Rain, Sport, Track and a Custom rider-programmable mode. Next up comes the uprated ABS and Traction Control suites that grants riders with selectable levels with both being linked to the riding modes as well.

Updates with the chassis hardware are mild, but there are several notable new bits starting with Brembo monobloc calipers. Next up comes the full compliment of Öhlins suspension all round exclusively for the Speed Triple R, which is comprised of the brand’s NIX30 front forks and TTX36 rear shock.

Also exclusive to the Speed Triple R are several unique and racy exterior trims. These include a carbon-fibre front mudguard, carbon tank inserts and a bellypan. Completing its premium racy looks, the R also boasts new billet-machined bar clamps and risers, swingarm pivot covers and rear wheel finisher, plus a red radiator cowls and a red subframe.

Completing the update are a set of new colour schemes starting with the Speed Triple S model’s ‘Diablo Red’ and ‘Phantom Black’ followed by the R’s ‘Crystal White’ and ‘Matt Graphite’.

We can expect more details surrounding the revised 2016 Triumph Speed Triple range as soon as they make their public debuts at the annual EICMA show in Milan, Italy later this month.

After much anticipation, the all-new 2016 Triumph Bonneville has been officially unveiled to the world by the manufacturer.

As expected, the bike is offered in three guises, each with a different liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. Firstly, there’s the entry-level 900cc Street Twin; the 1200cc T120, and the top-of-the-range Thruxton, According to Triumph, each variant of the new Bonneville has a different chassis design and distinct engine, and none shares a single component with the existing Bonneville. It is said that the new liquid-cooled engine offers 36 per cent better fuel-economy than the old one.

The company also revealed the T120 Black, which is basically the Triumph Bonneville T120 with different styling detail, and a Thruxton R, which is a Thruxton which comes with Brembo monobloc brake calipers, Showa big piston forks, Öhlins rear suspension and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa Tyres.

For your information, the Thruxton R was the bike that was featured in David Beckham’s recent short film titled “Outlaw”.

It is said that the new Bonevilles’ electronic systems have been updated as well, with features like the ride-by-wire throttle, ABS, slip-assist clutch, traction control, LED lights, immobiliser, a chipped ignition key, and a USB charging socket being offered as standard.

While the T120 comes with two riding modes (road and rain), the Thruxton has a third ‘sport’ mode, which promises a ‘more immediate throttle response’. T120 and T120 Black also come with heated grips as standard.

Standard equipment aside, options for the the Street Twin include a Scrambler kit, Vance & Hines exhaust, brushed aluminium components, and brown ribbed ‘bench’ seat; a ‘Brat Tracker’ kit including Vance & Hines slip-on cans, rear mudguard removal kit and a brown bench seat; and an ‘Urban’ kit, including a fly-screen, single leather pannier and Vance & Hines slip-ons.

For the T120 and T120 Black there’s a ‘Prestige’ kit including Vance & Hines peashooter slip-ons, a ribbed and stitched black seat and chrome clutch cover.

For the Thruxton and Thruxton R there’s a ‘Track Racer’ kit, including a cockpit fairing, clip-on bars and leather tank strap; and a ‘Café Racer’ kit, including a fly-screen, rubber knee pads and clip-ons.

Exclusively for the Thruxton R there’s an additional ‘Performance race’ kit which is ‘specifically designed and developed for competition use and closed circuit racing’. Details have not been confirmed but Triumph’s press release says: ‘The Factory Race kit will take the standard engine performance to an even higher level, with more power, torque and lower overall weight.’
