Royal Enfield enthusiasts have something to look forward to as the company gears up to launch its latest addition, a retro-styled scrambler.

  • Royal Enfield has trademarked the “Bear” nameplate suggesting a rugged-style motorcycle befitting a scrambler.
  • The Bear will borrow much of its components from the Interceptor 650.

The 650cc parallel-twin engine model will be derived from the Interceptor and is expected to bear the name “Bear” after parent company Eicher Motors filed trademark applications in Australia and New Zealand.

The upcoming scrambler is the most likely candidate for the Bear title, which aligns neatly with a name that suggests it’s a sub-model of the Interceptor. It’s expected to offer the sort of rugged, outdoorsy overtones that would suit a scrambler.

Based on several spy shots uncovered in India, the scrambler will feature an upside-down fork and longer-travel twin shocks to increase ground clearance. The frame and tank are straight from the Interceptor, and the 650cc, 47 hp parallel-twin engine will power the upcoming model.

The Royal Enfield 650 scrambler is expected to launch before the end of this year and will join the 2024 model range. However, the Bear is not the only new 650 machine in the pipeline, as Royal Enfield is also believed to be developing a bobber derived from the Super Meteor 650, with a short rear fender and single seat to match the SG650 concept shown in 2021.

That bike is believed to be getting the name “Shotgun,” which Eicher Motors owns the trademark rights to in much of the world, including the US.

The all-new Royal Enfield Hunter 350 which was introduced globally back in August 2022 has officially make its way to Malaysia.

  • Royal Enfield Hunter 350 officially launch in Malaysia.
  • The Hunter 350 joins Classic 350 and Meteor 350.
  • Available in two trims, Metro Rebel and Metro Dapper.

Available in two variants, the Metro Rebel and Metro Dapper – with the only difference between the two models is the colour scheme – is priced at RM22,200 and RM22,000 respectively.

Powering the Hunter 350 is the same 349cc single-cylinder J-series engine found in the Meteor and Classic. The engine pumps out 20.2hp @ 6,100rpm and 27Nm @ 4,00rpm, with Royal Enfield claiming a max speed of 114km/h.  Meanwhile, power is delivered to the rear wheel via a five-speed manualtransmission and chain final drive.

While the Indian market gets 17-inch wired spoked (non-tubeless) and alloy wheels, only the latter is available for the Malaysian market due to the former is fitted with drum brake which does not meet the local homologation.

That said, Malaysian gets the 17-inch alloy wheels with 110/70 at the front and 140/70 tubeless tyre at the rear. The Hunter 350 is also fitted with hydraulic disc brakes with dual-channel ABS.

Other notable features include:

  • analogue and digital dash
  • USB charging port
  • 43mm telescopic front forks
  • twin shock absorbers with 6-level preload
  • 790mm seat height
  • 13L fuel tank

The introduction of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 officially completes the brand’s 350 range in Malaysia alongside the Classic 350 and Meteor 350.

TVS is said to be developing a new 600-750cc motorcycle to rival the popular Royal Enfield 650 twins.

  • TVS plans to rival Royal Enfield with its own 650cc motorcycle.
  • The development is rumoured to be underway and with the help of Norton Motorcycles.
*Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650

Although there is no official confirmation from TVS regarding the development of this new motorcycle, it is rumoured that the company is already working on it.

The new flagship is expected to have a twin-cylinder motor, with power and torque output potentially exceeding that of the Royal Enfield 650 twins, which produce 47 hp of max power and 52 Nm of peak torque.

*Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

The body style of the new TVS flagship is still up in the air, with the company possibly launching multiple body styles simultaneously, or starting with a single offering such as a roadster.

Based on market response, TVS may consider other body styles such as scrambler, cafe racer, and ADV similar to what Royal Enfield is doing with its 350 and 650cc range.

TVS will need multiple products in the 600-750cc segment to compete with rivals like Royal Enfield, who are consistently expanding their portfolio in this space. After the recent launch of the Super Meteor 650, Royal Enfield plans to add other 650cc bikes such as Shotgun 650, Himalayan 650, and Classic 650.

It is unknown whether TVS will develop this new motorcycle on its own or seek collaboration with another entity. TVS acquired British brand Norton Motorcycles in April 2020, and it is likely that they will use Norton’s expertise for their upcoming motorcycle.

Indian motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has recently announced a refresh of its established 650cc twin-cylinder range. The Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, which have become successful platforms for the brand, are set to receive new paint jobs for 2023.

  • The Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 gets ‘blacked out’ for 2023.
  • the twin also features new switchgear, LED headlamps and comfier seat.

Royal Enfield first announced the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 at EICMA last year and has since reaffirmed its commitment to the 650cc twin-cylinder range. Before the Super Meteor 650, the brand had launched the Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650, which will both receive new paint options for the upcoming year.

The Interceptor 650, which currently offers Mark 2, Sunset Strip, and Canyon Red colour options, will now have two new “blacked-out” colours – Black Ray and Barcelona Blue. Meanwhile, the Continental GT 650’s existing colours of Mr Clean, Dux Dulux, British Racing Green, and Rocker Red will be joined by two new colours, Slipstream Blue and Apex Grey.

Apart from the new colours, the 2023 paint options for both the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 will feature new switchgear, LED headlamps, enhanced seat comfort, and a USB charging point. The “blacked-out” variants of the motorcycles with new colours will also come with “blacked-out” engine and exhaust components, as well as cast alloy wheels and tubeless tyres as standard.

Royal Enfield’s 650cc twin-cylinder range has proved to be successful for the brand, with the new refresh likely to attract even more attention from motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.

Royal Enfield recently opens its second exclusive showroom located in Perai, Penang.

  • The Super Meteor features an all-new frame and revised suspension setup.
  • The Super Meteor 650 features the same 650cc parallel-twin engine found in the 650 Twins.

During the launch, Mr. Rewi Hamid Bugo Chairman of Didi Group also confirmed that the highly-aniticpated Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 will hit Malaysian shores tentatively in July 2023.

The Super Meteor 650 is the third motorcycle to feature Royal Enfield’s 650cc parallel-twin engine after the Continental GT and Interceptor.

However, this is not simply an engine swap from the smaller Meteor 350 or a different aesthetic from the existing 650 Twin. Instead, the Super Meteor 650 gets a newly built frame, revised suspension geometry, redesigned fuel tank, new side panels and a new swingarm.

Also, the Super Meteor 650 is the first 650cc model from Royal Enfield to be equipped with full-LED lighting. In addition, the Super Meteor is also the first Royal Enfield to be fitted with upside-down forks.

Nonetheless, the motorcycle continues to offer conventional cruiser-style riding ergonomics similar to the 350.

Meanwhile, instrumentation comes from a digital-analogue display with tripper navigation.

Royal Enfield, the world’s leading mid-size motorcycle manufacturer, has opened a new store in Penang, Malaysia, to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific region.

The store, located at 1681 G1, Jalan Perusahaan, 13600 Perai, Pulau Pinang, will provide customers in Malaysia with greater accessibility to the brand’s motorcycles, apparel, and accessories.

The Royal Enfield-Penang store is located in the heart of the commercial center and provide easier access for customers in Penang Island, Kedah & Perak. The exclusive store will showcase the brand’s philosophy of “Pure Motorcycling” in every aspect of the ownership experience.

Didi Group, the Malaysian distributor of Royal Enfield, has achieved a 500% growth in bike registrations in 2022 and plans to expand further by opening five pop-up stores and a new official store in Johor Bahru in 2023. The company is also set to launch two new bike models, the Hunter 350 on March 9, 2023, and the Super Meteor 650 tentatively in July 2023.

According to Anuj Dua, Head of Business for Asia Pacific, Royal Enfield is committed to becoming the global leader in the mid-size segment, and the Asia Pacific region is of strategic importance.

The Malaysian market has seen a surge in Royal Enfield riders subscribing to leisure motorcycling and the “Pure Motorcycling” fold. The exclusive brand store and the accessible price points will appeal to motorcycling enthusiasts, he said.

The new Royal Enfield store in Penang, Malaysia, is expected to provide customers with a complete range of motorcycles, services, and Genuine motorcycle accessories under one roof.

Eicher Motors Ltd, the parent company of Royal Enfield, made a massive step towards electrification after announcing a strategic partnership with Spain-based Stark Future SL.

  • Eicher Motors Ltd has acquired some stake in Stark Future.
  • Stark Future is a Spanish-based electric motorcycle company.

The collaboration involved an equity investment of EUR50 million, which entails to 10.35 per cent stake in Stark Future. The acquisition also puts Eicher Motors Ltd to have a director seat on the board.

All business matters aside, the partnership will explore the vast opportunity of electric mobility, which Stark Future was vying for when the company debuted its first high-performance motorcycle, the Stark VARG electric motocross.

That said, it will be an exciting development between the two companies as Stark Future already has several patents while Royal Enfield is also working on its electric motorcycle concept called Electrik01.

One thing is for sure, Eicher Motors Ltd Managing Director Siddartha Lal is excited about the new partnership.

“We love the vision, passion and focus of the amazing team at Stark Future. Leisure motorcycles do not easily lend themselves to EV technology at this stage, due to challenges like the battery range, packaging, weight and cost.

“This has resulted in stunted growth of this segment till now. Stark Future has been able to understand and harness the potential of EV technology by dramatically outperforming ICE offerings, without compromising on range, weight, packaging and cost.

“They have created an absolutely astounding motocross motorcycle – the Stark VARG as their entry into the EV world. We believe that Stark Future has the highest potential for real breakout growth in the EV leisure space with this model, and the potential to use this strong base to extend into other contiguous segments and beyond,” he said.

The Stark VARG has quite an interesting spec sheet, particularly the electric motor that’s capable of producing 80hp and 938Nm and can be ridden up to six hours.

These days, Royal Enfield’s name appears almost every day on any two-wheel website.

  • Royal Enfield to introduce five new motorcycles featuring an all-new 450cc platform.
  • The Himalayan 450 could be the first to make public debut next year.

That’s because the Chennai-based motorcycle company has been busy introducing a range of new bikes in the last couple of years.

However, Royal Enfield will soon grow its portfolio with five all-new 450cc motorcycles.

According to reports in India, the 450cc range is likely to include an adventure tourer alongside a more off-road capable machine, possibly called the Himalayan 450. Also in the pipeline are a 450 roadster, 450 scramblers and a 450 cafe racer.

Royal Enfield has been caught testing an adventure tourer over the last few months, with reports claiming that it could be the first among the five to make its global debut next year.

Meanwhile, the Himalayan 450 will feature a single-piece flat seat, higher ground clearance and a longer travel suspension to boost the bike’s off-road ability.

Secondly, the roadster is a street-biased motorcycle, thus offering a lower seat height, sportier riding ergonomics and sharper bodywork.

The 450 scramblers and 450 cafe racer are similar to the roadster, offering slightly differing packages, including wired-spoke wheels, lower set clip-on handlebars, shorter fenders and a front beak.

In addition, all five models will boast LED lighting, including modern instrumentation.

Royal Enfield will be taking over its UK distribution beginning 2023.

  • Royal Enfield UK takes over UK distribution from MotoGB.
  • The move is part of Royal Enfield’s initiative to increase the brad presence in the country.

The move is part of Royal Enfield’s plan to boost its presence in the UK after previously used third-party distributors, MotoGB to run its operation in the country including sales and marketing.

However, Royal Enfield UK will handle its UK distribution totally in-house on 1 May 2023, subsequently ending the 9-year relationship with MotoGB.

“The Royal Enfield senior leadership team extends sincere thanks and appreciation to MotoGB for their association with the brand over the last 9 years,” said Royal Enfield in a statement.

Meanwhile, Arun Gopal, Royal Enfield’s Head of International Business is adamant that the business will continue to grow despite ending long partnership with MotoGB.

“The United Kingdom is a key home market for Royal Enfield, having a long legacy of cooperation with India and a rich history.

“From the foundation of the brand in 1901 to the first UK import sale of India produced motorcycles in 1977 and the sales growth in recent years with the assistance of MotoGB, Royal Enfield has seen good sales momentum and acceptance in the UK market.

“We will continue to make investment in the UK localising our operations and giving our stakeholders the best possible brand experience,” he said.

The waiting game has come to an end as Royal Enfield finally rolls out the Super Meteor 650 at the EICMA show in Milan.

  • Royal Enfield adds the Super Meteor 650 to its 650cc family.
  • The Super Meteor features an all-new frame and revised suspension setup.

According to Royal Enfield, the Super Meteor 650 will be available in two trims; Standard and Tourer, with the latter is fitted with a range of accessories, including saddlebags, a tall windscreen, an engine guard and a pillion backrest.

It’s first official teaser has confirmed that Royal Enfield upcoming Super Meteor 650 cruiser is set to break cover at EICMA 2022 after unveiling the SG650 Concept during the 2021 edition.

https://youtu.be/V-CvJs4ZZVU

The unveiling is scheduled to happen on Tuesday, November 8, which is the first press day at EICMA and can be catch on Royal Enfield’s official YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, the teaser revealed the rear view of the upcoming Super Meteor 650 and while the green curtains brilliantly blocked some part of the motorcycle, we can clearly see the twin pipe setup similar to the 650 Twin (Interceptor and Continental GT).

Also visible is the twin rear shocks with black springs and a single round, red taillight.

However, it is yet to confirm whether the teased model is actually the upcoming Super Meteor or it could just be a misdirection.

Anyway, we’ll just have to wait and see.
