Wait, before you get confused, the Honda WN7, launched recently at EICMA 2025 is not the company’s first sojourn into the world of electrified two-wheelers. However, previous Honda’s electric two wheelers were scooters – the CUV ES made its debut as far back as 1994. There was also an electric PCX called the er… PCX Electric in 2018 but did not make its way to Malaysia.

Back to the WN7, Honda positioned it as fun and agile roadster under their “Be the Wind” development concept. Checking out the spec sheets, it delivers the equivalent of 67 hp (50 kW) of maximum power and a maximum torque of 100 Nm. Do not let those numbers fool you: Electric motors deliver their torque instantaneously and it is way more fun to ride a torquey motorcycle on the road, compared to one with a peaky powerband.

From Honda’s Press Release

Development concept

The Honda WN7 is the first electric naked model in the FUN category developed under Honda’s new electric motorcycle brand direction. Its development concept, “Be the Wind,” expresses the joy of freely gliding through the air with quietness unique to an electric vehicle.

Riders can directly sense the sounds and atmosphere of their surroundings—the conversations and laughter of people on the street, the rustling of leaves—experiences not possible with ICE (internal combustion engine) models. Reflecting its developers’ passion, the WN7’s smooth yet strong torque acceleration and agile handling allows riders to enjoy the liberating feeling of riding like the wind.

Design

Aiming to refine functionality and express essence, the design features a seamless, smooth surface on the areas the rider touches, while combining a distinctive and powerful silhouette.

Its signature horizontal light bar will serve as a common design identity for Honda’s future electric motorcycles.

The WN7 also debuts a dedicated colour theme for Honda’s electric motorcycles, featuring a black-based body accented with gold component parts. Like the signature lighting, this colour theme will be adopted across upcoming global electric models.

Frameless chassis

Unlike conventional motorcycles that use a frame connecting the front and rear of the body, the WN7 adopts a frameless structure in which the centrally positioned aluminium battery case forms part of the main frame. The head pipe supporting the steering and the pivot bracket supporting the rear are both directly connected to the centrally located power unit. By eliminating the traditional frame, the WN7 achieves not only weight reduction but also greater layout flexibility, contributing significantly to its slim and compact proportions.

In addition, positioning the heavy battery pack at the center of the chassis also enhances mass centralization and agile handling.

Integrated motor-inverter unit

A newly developed, compact and lightweight water-cooled motor with an integrated inverter powers the WN7. It delivers a maximum output of 50 kW, equivalent to a 600 cc ICE motorcycle, and maximum torque of 100 Nm, comparable to a 1000 cc class ICE motorcycle. This ensures powerful yet composed performance both in city riding and on open roads.

Power from the motor is transmitted via a newly designed gearbox to a belt-drive system, which drives the rear wheel while contributing to quiet operation.

Drive battery and charging standards

The WN7 is equipped with a newly developed 9.3 kWh fixed lithium-ion battery. It supports both CCS2 fast charging and Type 2 normal charging, compatible with standard household outlets in many regions. With a fast charger, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, allowing for quick recharging on the go and reducing the stress of waiting time.

In addition, normal charging fully charges the battery from 0% to 100% in under 2.4 hours, providing a cruising range of 140 km (WMTC mode) on a full charge.

Regenerative braking, Deceleration Selector, and Walking Speed Mode

During deceleration with the throttle off, the WN7’s motor performs energy regeneration while providing regenerative braking. Riders can adjust the level of deceleration using the Deceleration Selector on the left handlebar switch, enabling smooth low-speed control with minimal brake operation or a gliding sensation with reduced deceleration—offering a new riding feel distinct from ICE motorcycles.

The WN7 is also equipped with a Walking Speed Mode, allowing the rider to move the bike forward or backward slowly using the left-hand switch and throttle—useful for parking or maneuvering in tight urban spaces.

The Honda WN7 will be produced at Honda’s Kumamoto Factory – the company’s global hub for motorcycle production. Honda will introduce the model sequentially to global markets where electrification shift is advancing, as the company accelerates electrification of motorcycles on a global scale.

The Honda V3R E-Compressor prototype has been launched at EICMA 2025, following its concept debut at last year’s show.

As the name suggests, the V3 engine is fed by an electronically-controlled compressor to boost engine performance. Unlike the traditional belt-driven or exhaust driven compressor, the E-Compressor does not exact a penalty on engine performance, while providing boost even at low engine RPMs. Traditional compressors exhibit a pronounced ‘lag’ at low engine speeds, hence also low compressor blade speeds due to air’s inertia. When this happens, the rider will find the engine bogging at low speeds, only to find the bike suddenly taking off when boost pressure finally builds up. Riding such a bike requires the rider to keep the engine revving hard at all times. Not so with the E-Compressor as it controls the intake air pressure at all RPMs.

Honda says that such technology to allow this 900cc engine to perform at the level of a 1200cc powerplant.

From Honda’s Press Release

Honda has unveiled the V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype equipped with a V3 engine with an electronically-controlled compressor, at EICMA 2025 (the Milan Motorcycle Shows).

In order to realize the “joy and freedom of mobility” to fulfill the Honda 2030 Vision, Honda motorcycle development team members are engaged in ongoing discussions in the effort to build attractive products that go beyond expectations of customers. The V3R 900 E- Compressor Prototype is being developed as a motorcycle model that offers new value tocustomers with unprecedented, original Honda technologies.

Under the development concept of “Non-Rail Roller Coaster,” Honda is striving to create a model that is characterised by two contrasting qualities — “guaranteed thrill” and “reassuring peace of mind” — by combining its latest technologies with know-how amassed through its long history of motorcycle development.

A slim and compact engine design was pursued with the displacement of 900cc based on the exact layout of the water-cooled 75-degree V3 engine, which Honda unveiled last year as a concept model at the EICMA 2024. Equipped with the world’s first electronically-controlled compressor for motorcycles, the engine delivers highly responsive torque even from low rpm range, by controlling compression of the intake air irrespective of engine rpm. Taking advantage of this feature, Honda is striving to develop a 900cc engine that achieves the overwhelming performance comparable to that of a 1200cc engine, while also contributing to excellent environmental performance.

The V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype features asymmetrical side cowls, as well as a tank
emblem with the new “Honda Flagship WING” design, which is scheduled to be adopted by top-tier models sequentially starting next year.

Honda is developing the V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype as a model that will represent a new milestone in the ongoing challenges undertaken by Honda and will enable customers to experience the unprecedented fun and excitement of riding and the joy of ownership. Honda will continue development for the mass production.

2025 marks the 50th anniversary – the Golden Jubilee – of the Honda Gold Wing. 50 years is a long time for any motorcycle model production, and the Gold Wing has been through several significant moments in history.

 Honda Gold Wing

In the pantheon of motorcycling icons, few machines command the respect and admiration of the Honda Gold Wing. It is the undisputed monarch of the long-distance touring realm, a two-wheeled institution synonymous with comfort, innovation, and continent-devouring capability. Yet, its journey to the throne was anything but predictable. The evolution of the Gold Wing is a fascinating tale of a motorcycle that repeatedly reinvented itself, evolving from a purist’s sport-tourer into a technological flagship that continues to define the luxury touring category.

The Genesis: A “Naked” Superbike (1975-1979)

The story begins not with the fairing-clad behemoth we know today, but with a revolutionary engineering exercise.

When Honda unveiled the GL1000 in 1975, the motorcycling world was stunned. At its heart lay a masterpiece: a liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine. This “flat-four” configuration, reminiscent of a sports car’s powertrain, provided a incredibly low center of gravity and an exceptionally smooth, vibration-free power delivery. With nearly 1000cc and 80 horsepower, it outperformed many contemporary superbikes, including Honda’s own CB750, which was universally called “the world’s first superbike.”

Surprisingly, the original Gold Wing was a minimalist. It arrived without a fairing, sporting only a simple fuel tank (though the actual tank was hidden under the seat to lower weight) and a solitary, dual-purpose seat. It was a “high speed tourer” according to Honda, a sleek and potent machine that enthusiasts quickly recognized as an unparalleled platform for long-distance travel. Riders began to customize them, adding aftermarket fairings and saddlebags, signaling to Honda a latent demand they had not yet fully anticipated.

The Transformation: Becoming the Tourer (1980-1983)

Honda is a company that listens, and the 1980s marked the Gold Wing’s definitive shift in identity, and in doing so, differentiate itself from the performance-oriented CB range.

The GL1100, introduced in 1980, was offered from the factory with optional factory-fitted fairings and luggage.

The Shape of the Future: The Full-Dress Tourer Debuts (1984-1987)

The market responded overwhelmingly to the GL1100 and by 1984, the GL1200 series had cemented the Gold Wing’s new silhouette. The Interstate model provided the full-dress experience, while the Aspencade added luxury touches like a digital dashboard and a premium sound system.

GL1200 Gold Wing Interstate

This was no longer just a motorcycle; it was a rolling living room. Comfort became paramount. The engine grew in displacement and refinement, designed not for peak horsepower but for a broad, seamless wave of torque. The riding position became more relaxed, and the chassis was engineered to handle the increasing weight of the amenities. The Gold Wing had found its calling: to isolate its rider and passenger from the hardships of the road, transforming a cross-country journey into a serene, effortless event.

The Apex of Analog: The Mighty Six-Cylinder Era (1988-2000)

If the 1200cc model solidified the concept, the 1988 GL1500 perfected it. This was a monumental leap. Honda replaced the flat-four with a majestic, 1520cc horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. The increase in cylinders translated to an otherworldly level of smoothness and torque. The motorcycle’s profile became broader, more authoritative, and undeniably grand.

The GL1500 was a marvel of pre-digital analog engineering. It featured a complex, multi-speaker audio system, cruise control, reverse gear, and enough storage capacity to rival a small car. It was the ultimate expression of the “bigger is better” philosophy, a machine that prioritized supreme comfort and presence above all else. For over a decade, it reigned supreme, facing little competition and building a cult-like following among touring purists.

The 21st Century Flagship: The Technological Leap (2001-2017)

In 2001, Honda unveiled the GL1800, a machine that was as much a feat of structural engineering as it was a motorcycle. The new 1832cc flat-six engine was now a stressed member of the frame, which was a single-piece, die-cast aluminum unit. This resulted in a stiffer, lighter chassis that transformed the bike’s handling, making the colossal machine feel surprisingly agile.

The GL1800 became the new benchmark for two decades. It incorporated cutting-edge technology, including optional satellite navigation and, in a world-first for production motorcycles, an optional airbag. Its audio system was concert-hall quality, and its weather protection was absolute. It was the pinnacle of the fully integrated, all-in-one touring package, a technological fortress on two wheels.

The Modern Rebirth: The Agile Grand Tourer (2018-Present)

By the 2010s, the touring market was changing. Riders, including an aging core demographic, sought lighter, more manageable machines. Honda’s response in 2018 was a comprehensive and daring redesign. The new Gold Wing underwent a dramatic diet, shedding nearly 50 kg. The most radical change was at the front, where a double-wishbone suspension system replaced the traditional telescopic fork, improving handling and reducing front-end dive under braking.

Most significantly, the cockpit was catapulted into the modern age. A full-color TFT display became the command center, integrating with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Multiple riding modes, hill start assist, and a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission option broadened its appeal. Honda had successfully re-engineered a legend, preserving its core luxury and comfort while gifting it with a newfound spirit of agility and modern connectivity.

And, finally, the 2025 Honda Gold Wing 50th Anniversary

The 2025 Honda Gold Wing 50th Anniversary is a rolling monument to a half-century of touring supremacy. To honour this legacy, Honda has adorned its flagship tourer with two stunning Eternal Gold and Bordeaux Red Metallic paint scheme, a direct and elegant homage to the iconic colours of the original 1975 GL1000. This visual tribute is complemented by exclusive 50th Anniversary badging on the saddlebags and fuel tank, along with gold-coloured alloy wheels and meticulously embroidered seats, ensuring that its celebratory status is recognised at every glance.

Conclusion

The Honda Gold Wing’s evolution is a masterclass in listening to riders and daring to lead. It has grown from a sophisticated engine in search of a purpose to the most complete and capable touring machine on the planet. It is a testament to Honda’s engineering philosophy, proving that even a legend can continue to evolve, ensuring that the king of the tourers remains as relevant tomorrow as it was half a century ago.

After revealing the Honda CB1000F as a concept during the Suzuka 8 Hour race in August, they have now revealed the ready product.

The CB1000F is the latest model in the CB family’s 65-year-old history. But more specifically, the CB1000F resembles the CB750F/CB900F from the 80’s. More significantly, it resembles the bike ridden by one Freddie Spencer to a Daytona victory, before he went on to be a 500cc world champion.

As we mentioned previously, it is based on the CB1000 platform, which has now expanded to three variants, namely CB1000R (Neo Cafe roadster), CB1000/Hornet (naked), and now the CB1000F.

Therefore, all three bikes share some basic architecture and features.

Highlights
  • 1000cc inline-four engine, but retuned to produce 122 hp at 9,000 RPM and 103 Nm at 8,000 RPM, compared to the other two variants’ 155 hp @ 11,000 RPM and 107 Nm at 9,000 RPM.
  • It is clear here that this bike is intended for a more approachable, everyday riding experience, rather than an all-out street blasting.
  • Honda says it has been “developed under the conceptual target of creating the ‘Best Balanced Roadster’. The CB1000F handles like a middleweight but with big bike feel. And, with the ‘80s now proving such an influential decade in clothing, music, style, and more, the CB1000F is very much a bike ready for today.”

  • To achieve this goal, Honda revised the cams, lengthened the intake funnel from 50 mm to 140 mm, and a minimum diameter of 36 mm.
  • The exhaust system has the same 4-2-1 arrangement but gases exit through a three-chamber megaphone muffler.
  • Front suspension consists of 41mm Showa SFF-BP USD forks which are adjustable for spring preload and rebound/compression damping. (Non-adjustable on the CB1000/Hornet).

  • At the rear is a Showa shock that also allows for preload and rebound damping adjustments.
  • Nissin four-piston radial-mount front brake callipers grip 310mm floating discs up front, while out back is a 240mm disc that’s paired with a Nissin single-piston calliper
  • The CB1000F gets cast aluminium wheels with 120/70-ZR17 and 180/55-ZR17 front and rear tyres.

  • The CB1000F also receives wheelie control and cornering ABS, three riding modes which include Standard, Sport and Rain, and two customisable User modes for riders to choose from.
  • The dash features a 5-inch TFT screen, which has smartphone connectivity via the Honda RoadSmart app.
