  • Lubrication systems in modern engines provides sufficient lubrication.

  • However, most engine damage occurs during start up.

  • Castrol Activ aims to provide lubrication during all stages of engine operation.

Car drivers should be familiar with a Castrol product called Magnetec. The engine lubricant is infused with a formulation that clings to engine parts (hence “magnet”) even after you turn off the engine, thus protecting it when restarted. But Magnetec is for cars and lubricants for cars and motorcycle engines are different (click here to find out why they are different). Castrol aims to achieve the same for motorcycle engines with the new Castrol Activ lubricant.

Lubrication systems in modern engines do provide sufficient lubrication while running, but the oil will drain back down into the sump a few minutes after stopping the engine (that’s why we check the oil level with the engine off after running it for a few minutes). Therefore, there’s hardly any oil when we restart the engine, although almost all good lubricants will leave a layer a micron thick on the surfaces it lubricated before. But it depends if that layer breaks down at engine start. Besides that, most new engines have parts with coatings that trap some oil – usually the piston rings, piston skirts and cylinder bores – while other parts do not.

That is why, contrary to popular belief, most engine damage actually occurs during start up, not when fully running.

The new lubricant is fortified with improved Actibond molecules, that cling to critical engine parts through all stages of riding.

Keow Mei-Shan, Marketing Director for Castrol Malaysia and Singapore explained, “Modern riding conditions demand a lot from riders and their motorcycles. There can be at least 10 million instances per month where a motorcycle engine could get damaged simply whilst running. In fact, a motorcycle requires continuous protection not just whilst riding but also during start up and even when the engine is off. The new formulation of Castrol Activ has Improved Actibonds that provide continuous protection during start up, riding and even when the engine is switched off. Overall, new Castrol Activ promises Castrol’s Best Continuous Protection ever for motorcycles.”

Castrol Activ is able to protect your motorcycle’s engine through all three stages of operation:

  • During start up – Most engine wear occurs during warm up, just after start. The improved Actibond molecules reduces warm up wear by 75 thereby reducing wear and tear of vital engine parts.
  • During riding – The improved Actibond molecules fights deposits and provides superior engine cleanliness, to help ensure smooth running and reduce piston wear.
  • During engine switch off – By clinging on to engine parts even when the engine is switched off, Castrol Activ provides excellent protection against corrosion which may occur due to humidity.

We came across this Castrol Activ TVC from India, so please take a peek.

Castrol Activ meets API SL and JASO MA2 specifications. It is available in 1 litre bottles at Castrol Bike Points, motorcycle workshops and retailers throughout Malaysia at the price of RM23.50 for Peninsular Malaysia and RM24.20 for East Malaysia.

It is the MotoGP weekend and this is the time when riders from all teams hit the ground to meet their fans, friends, sponsors and everyone who means something to them.

Cal Crutchlow of LCR Honda was one of those riders who hit town for a meet and greet session this evening at Hard Rock Cafe, KL. Organised by Castrol, Crutchlow met dealers, members of the media, fans and about 200 lucky people who managed to get up close and personal with the race winner.

The 32-year old from England has had a storied career in motorcycle racing – beginning his professional career as a superbike rider and was crowned the British Supersport Champion in 2006. He then went on to clinch the Supersport World Championship title in his rookie season in 2009. After making his debut in MotoGP, he joined LCR Honda in 2015 after stints at Yamaha and Ducati.

Last year, Crutchlow became the first ever Briton to win the Australian Grand Prix and was also on the podium at Brno. He finished the 2016 season in seventh place, and this year he is currently in ninth place with two more races left in the season.

“Castrol’s relationship with LCR Honda started in 2015, the same year Crutchlow joined the team. This is the first time we have arranged a meet and greet session for MotoGP fans here in Malaysia. Some of the guests here are winners from the FB competition we organised earlier. The Castrol brand is about passion, excitement and performance; and LCR Honda together with Cal Crutchlow as its rider, perfectly encapsulates Castrol’s brand values. Our long term technical partnership with motorcycle manufacturers and the use of the highest level of motorcycle racing as a testing ground is a very important part of our never-ending development of high quality products, both for competition racers and enthusiast bikers around the world. With Castrol POWER1 as the chosen lubricant, the LCR Honda will be able to call upon the highest performance from their bike for the upcoming race,” said Keow Mei-Shan, Marketing Director Malaysia and Singapore (photo, below).

“We consider the Malaysian MotoGP race in Sepang to be our home race, and as such, the livery on the LCR Honda bike will position Castrol POWER1 as the team title sponsor for this race. This, obviously gives us an added significance in wanting to see Crutchlow and the team doing well in Sepang,” Mei-Shan concluded.

The LCR Honda Team uses Castrol POWER1 Racing 4T with ‘Race Derived Technology’ and is specifically designed for bikers who love the exhilaration of riding. Using ‘Race Derived Technology’ it flows fast and stays strong, reducing internal engine friction even under the most arduous riding conditions. It has been tested and proven to deliver exceptional acceleration and power at a touch of the throttle. The inclusion of Trizone Technology™ ensures uncompromised performance protection for the engine, clutch and gearbox.

The Central Team in deep concentration

The Malaysian Castrol Bike Mechanic Contest 2017 kicked off in June, where close to 800 contestants across the country’s five regions participated in the preliminary rounds. Out of that, only 18 mechanics, grouped into six teams of three each, qualified to advance to the semi-finals. After a gruelling battle to test their theoretical knowledge, just three teams were shortlisted to proceed to the finals to compete in a Practical Knowledge Challenge for the chance to be crowned the best Castrol Bike Point Mechanic Team in Malaysia. The mechanics were judged by an independent four-member judging team comprising of highly experienced technical & R&D experts from the motorcycle industry.

“The Castrol Bike Mechanic Contest is one of Castrol Malaysia’s many efforts to recognise and reward high level of skill amongst Castrol Bike Point mechanics in Malaysia. Through the contest, we ensure that mechanics can hone their skills further.  Castrol works to raise their technical knowledge and improve customer service. This year’s competition is particularly significant as the winners will go on to represent the nation in the Asia-Pacific competition. We are very proud to recognise the skills of our mechanics in Malaysia and will continue to support them as they prepare for the upcoming battle,” said Keow Mei-Shan, Marketing Director Malaysia & Singapore.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, Eng Lean Hui said, “My teammates and I are very happy to have won this challenging competition, and are honoured to be representing Malaysia in the Asia Pacific Bike Mechanic contest end of this year. We learned a lot during this competition. As individuals we were not perfect, but together, we made a perfect team! We thank Castrol Malaysia for this opportunity. We will continue to train and update our knowledge in the run up to it, and hope that we can do ourselves, our families and ultimately the nation proud!”
