BMW Motorrad

Despite announcing withdrawal from the upcoming 2021 EICMA, BMW Motorrad has been busy lining up a new range of motorcycles for 2022/23.

A couple of months ago, the Bavarian manufacturer was caught testing the all-new R 1300 GS at BMW’s Enduro Park Hechlingen.

However, in the latest update, the German automaker is back in the limelight as they were spied testing out another two models, the R nineT Scrambler and the Urban G/S.

According to reports, the R nineT Scrambler features a revamped upside-down fork, swingarm and frame, while the 21″ wire-spoke wheels are paired to a Metzeler Karoo 3 tires.

BMW also likely improve the riding ergonomics to increase the off-road capabilities.

The R nineT Scrambler and R nineT Urban G/S are expected to arrive between 2022 to 2023, along with the all-new R 1300 GS.

Months after a series of images of an upcoming R 18 leaked online, BMW Motorrad finally unveiled the finished product, meet the 2021 R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B.

The R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B (Bagger) takes the R 18 range to new heights as a Grand American Tourer motorcycle.

Built based on the R 18 First Edition and Classic, the Transcontinental and Bagger are ideal for the long-distance ride thanks to the large batwing front fairing and taller windshield.

According to BMW Motorrad, while the Transcontinental offers the classic American motorcycle elements, the R 18 B, on the other hand, is designed as a “rider’s machine” delivering emotional riding pleasure and is ideal for cool touring and cruising.

Nonetheless, the R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B continue to be powered by the Big Boxer 1,802 cc engine capable of producing 91hp @ 4,750rpm and 158Nm @ 3,000rpm.

Meanwhile, a double-loop tube steel frame sits at the heart of the chassis, designed to continue the legacy of the iconic R 5.

Other interesting features available on the R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B includes:

  • 49mm telescopic fork with fork sleeves
  • cantilever suspension strut (damping and preload-adjustable)
  • light alloy cast wheels
  • BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS
  • twin disc at the front
  • single disc at the rear
  • 48L top case (Transcontinental)
  • 24L tank

While the R 18 First Edition and Classic missed out on the cruise control feature, the two new variants come equipped with Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) as standard.

However, customers can opt for the Active Cruise Control (ACC) as an ex-works option.

The ACC allows relaxed gliding with distance control – without the rider having to adjust the speed to the vehicle in front.

To increase comfort, the R 18 Transcontinental feature a ‘mid-mounted footpeg’ and a comfortable seat with seat heating functions as standard, while the R 18 B comes with a slimmer seat bench.

The cockpit features classically designed round instruments and a 10.25″ TFT colour display with map navigation for convenient route planning and extensive connectivity as standard.

Other electronic features include:

  • three riding modes: Rain/Roll/Rock
  • Automatic Stability Control
  • engine drag torque control (MSR)
  • Hill Start Control
  • Marshall 2-way speaker
  • Marshall Gold Series Stage 1 & 2 (optional)

The R 18 Transcontinental and R 18 B is expected to make their way to a worldwide dealership soon.

BMW Motorrad teases Marshall partnership, likely for upcoming BMW R18 bagger and tourer.

Less than a year after its global reveal, the 2021 BMW M 1000 RR is expected to reach Malaysian shores soon.

Based on what we gathered, a limited unit of the M 1000 RR set to arrive between September and October this year, with dealers already accepting bookings.

The M 1000 RR is expected to be priced at around RM290k, making it the most expensive BMW Motorrad motorcycle available here.

Build based on the success of the BMW S 1000 RR, BMW Motorrad decided it is time to inject the “M” into the German automaker two-wheel segment.

This road-legal BMW M 1000 RR carries an upgraded version of the S 1000 RR’s 999cc inline-four engine with new lighter forged pistons, intake ports, titanium valves, longer titanium conrods optimized intake system, and a brand-new Akrapovic titanium full-system race exhaust.

This resulted in an overall power increase to a whopping 212hp at 14,500rpm and 113Nm torque at 11,000rpm. With a kerb weight of only 192kg, you can expect some serious performance especially paired with updated suspension, electronics and braking systems designed to conquer the world of Superbikes.

Perhaps the most visible change to the BMW M 1000 RR or M RR is M Winglets and high windscreen that offers significant improvements to the aerodynamics department without compromising top speed.

Other specs include:

Launch Control with Pitlane Limiter
M Carbon Wheels
M GPS data logger & lap trigger
Lightweight M battery
Adjustable characteristic throttle curves
Shift Assistant Pro
New selectable riding modes + more

BMW Motorrad opens its new chapter in electric mobility by launching the all-new CE 04.

The CE 04 is proof that BMW continues its pursuit of electromobility strategy for urban conurbations.

The CE 04 is powered by an electric motor capable of producing 31kW (42hp) and able to reach 0-50km/h in just 2.6 seconds.

Despite build as an urban commuter, BMW claimed the CE 04 has a maximum speed of 120 km/h while able to cover up to 130km thanks to a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 60.6 Ah (8.9 kWh).

According to BMW, the CE 04 is mounted with a permanent magnet electric motor located in the frame between the battery and the rear wheel.

As an added convenience, owners can charge the battery via a regular household socket, a wall box or at every public charging station.

BMW claimed that the charging time is around 4 hours and 20 minutes if the battery is completely flat, but owners can opt for a quick charger that cuts down the charging time to just 1 hour and 40 minutes.

However, if the battery level is at 20 per cent, the charging time to 80 per cent will take just 45 minutes.

Interestingly, like every petrol-powered BMW motorcycle, the CE 04 also offers Automatic Stability Control (ASC) as standard and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) as an optional package.

The CE 04 also features three riding modes consisting of ECO, Rain and Road, while the (optional) Dynamic mode allows better acceleration.

Other exciting features include:

  • full LED light setup
  • tubular steel frame
  • telescopic front fork with 35mm slider tube
  • single-sided swingarm with a spring strut
  • 120/70-R15 front tyre
  • 160/60-R15 rear tyre
  • ABS (ABS Pro *optional)

The CE 04 features a 10.25″ TFT screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity to complete the look of a modern futuristic scooter.

BMW CE 04 is available in two colour schemes, Light Wight and Magellan Grey.

BMW Motorrad will unveil the company new electric motorcycle, namely the CE 04, on July 7.

The announcement was made via BMW Motorrad’s Twitter page.

The electric scooter was previously spotted doing test runs on the streets of Europe.

BMW CE-04 Electric Scooter Caught Testing On Public Roads

Interestingly, the production version of the CE 04 strikes a remarkable resemblance to the concept model unveiled back in November 2020.

The CE-04 retains the same front panel highlighted by the V-shaped headlights and a boxy profile that intentionally designed to accentuates the massive battery hiding underneath the body.

Set to be launched via live-stream across BMW Motorrad official Facebook and YouTube channel, the CE 04 is one of the most intriguing electric motorcycles to look out for in 2022.

The BMW R nineT Racer is not the most comfortable retro motorcycle for daily commute.

While some may argue that it’s not meant as a daily machine, some owners might want to take their beloved R nineT Racer out and about almost every day.

Well, your prayers might have been answered thanks to Wilbers R nineT Racer conversion kit created specifically to increased the comfort level of your bike.

The Wilbers R nineT Racer conversion kit includes the following:

  • Wilbers Adjustline 640 suspension
  • Wilbers fork springs
  • Wilbers Hyper Race steering damper
  • ABM Multiclip handlebar
  • Gilles adjustable footpegs
  • Wunderlich windshield (which adds an extra 5cm)
  • Side stand extension

You can obtain the conversion kit via Wilbers Italia for a price of EUR2,250 (RM11,250).

According to reports, the suspension alone will add 10mm of travel at the front and 20mm at the rear, while the ABM Multiclip handlebar adds 40mm of width, thus providing better ergonomics.

BMW Motorrad set to amplify the two-wheel electric industry with the CE-04 as images of the electric scooter have emerged.

Interestingly, while other manufacturers tend to ‘overhaul’ the overall look of a motorcycle from the original concept design, BMW took a different approach.

The production product remains faithful to the concept bike revealed in November last year based on these spy shots.

The CE-04 retains the same front panel highlighted by the V-shaped headlights and a boxy profile that intentionally designed to accentuates the massive battery hiding underneath the body.

BMW Motorrad is yet to disclose further details of the CE-04; however, we expect the German automaker will officially reveal the all-new electric scooter later this year.

The BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team clinched the best team result so far at the opening round of the 2021 season thanks to the German marquee new weapon, the BMW M 1000 RR.

During the race in Motorland Aragon, BMW Motorrad riders Tom Sykes and Michael van der Mark finished the race in 4th and 5th, respectively.

Interestingly, they were just half a second off the podium positions.

Van der Mark even set the fastest lap of the race on the M 1000 RR, which help him to shot through from 15th on the grid to finish fifth at the end of the race.

The Dutch rider briefly took the lead on lap six before spending several laps defending second place against defending champion and Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT) rider Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes before the two eventually passed him.

Van der Mark and Sykes swapped position later on before the two secured their best result in WSBK at 4th and 5th place.

“A bittersweet day, really. We definitely had a Superpole race to forget, which we won’t go into too much detail about. That meant that we compromised our start position in race two. For race two, I wanted to go with the slick tyre, but after this morning, we opted to play it safe on the intermediates.

“I could see what the guys in front of me were doing but obviously considering the tyres we were on, I tried a different strategy to feel where the BMW M 1000 RR was working and where we had to improve. Unfortunately, we just missed out on the podium today, but considering our results here last year it is a huge improvement,” explained Sykes after the race.

Van der Mark also shared his take on the M 1000 RR.

“This morning, we had a wet warm-up session which was my first time on the BMW M 1000 RR in the rain, and to be honest, I had such a good feeling from the first lap. The Superpole race was in mixed conditions, but I opted to go with the slick tyre and in the end was the right choice.

“Despite that, we made a good start, had some incredible battles taking the lead, but I knew I was asking too much of the tyres and in the end, some guys got past me. But we have got to be happy with the two P5 positions and most importantly the experience I’ve gained with the BMW M 1000 RR,” he said.

BMW Motorrad France has launched the F 900 R Force; an aviation-inspired model limited to just 300 units.

Exclusive to the French market, the middle-weight motorcycle still maintains the 895cc parallel-twin engine that pumps out 103hp @ 8,500rpm and 92Nm @ 6,500rpm.

However, the limited-edition motorcycle comes in a unique colour scheme by combining a striking San Marino Blue shade with a Fluorescent Yellow highlight.

According to BMW France, the colour evokes the design of a fighter plane.

Despite being a limited edition machine, the F 900 R Force also gets a host of optional upgrades, consisting of a windshield, belly pan, seat cowl, and rims with yellow highlights.

The F 900 R Force also gets a quick shifter.

Other than that, you get the usual full-LED lighting, 6.5″ TFT display and Brembo brake callipers.

Imagine controlling your motorcycle with a slight movement of your finger. Well, that is what BMW Motorrad is planning to do, as the latest patent reveals.

The patent drawings show what appears to be a set of sensors that is mount somewhere on the handlebar capable of detecting gestures from the rider’s fingers.

This new technology is expected to increase a rider’s mobility on the bike while navigating through a series of rider-aids, such as setting up cruise control and selecting riding modes.

According to reports, the sensors will read specific gestures to engage particular functions on the motorcycle. Who would’ve thought communicating with your bike is possible via sign language?

Modern bikes now come with an array of settings and buttons on the handlebar, which is sometimes a hassle to navigate around.

The gesture control system will set a benchmark for other manufacturers if it ever manages to materialise in the near future.
