WorldSBK 2019

  • Honda returns to WorldSBK 2019 with the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2.

  • The new Moriwaki Althea Honda is a full factory effort.

  • Riders are Ryuichi Kiyonari and Leon Camier.

The Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 WorldSBK 2019 challenger was unveiled by the new Honda factory team Moriwaki Althea Honda.

Riders Leon Camier and Ryuichi Kiyonari pulled the covers off the new bikes at Phillip Island. The launch was just hours before the start of the final pre-season test at the track. It was also mere days prior to the start of the WorldSBK 2019 season.

The entry marks Honda’s return to WorldSBK as a factory team since 2002 when Colin Edwards won the WSBK title. The team, now known as Moriwaki Althea Honda, takes over from Ten Kate Honda who have campaigned for the Japanese manufacturer since 2004. The much-publicized move drove out Ten Kate who later applied for bankruptcy.

It seemed harsh for Honda to do so, but it was because Suzuka-based Moriwaki Engineering is no stranger to bringing in success for Honda. Moriwaki started campaigning in the All-Japan Superbike Championship on Pirelli tyres (like in WorldSBK) since 2016 in the hopes of taking that experience to the world stage.

Kiyonari signed on to the team in 2017. He was a former British Superbike champion and WorldSBK winner.

The KYB Moriwaki Motul Racing team finished the 2018 Suzuka 8 Hour endurance race in 8thoverall with Kiyonari and Yuki Takahashi (one position behind the Honda Asia Dream Racing team with Zaqhwan Zaidi riding).

Leon Camier, on the other hand, joins the team after spending three seasons with MV Agusta.

  • Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK launched their 2019 line-up for the World Superbike Championship.

  • Riders are four-time champion Jonathan Rea and new signing Leon Haslam.

  • The season kicks off next weekend at Phillip Island, Australia.

The Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK launched their line-up and bikes to continue their dominance in the 2019 World Superbike Championship.

Four-time and defending WorldSBK Champion Jonathan Rea and new signing Leon Haslam revealed the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR at a resort not far from the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia.

The circuit plays host to the final round of pre-season testing and the first round of the 2019 championship. The tests will take place next Monday and Tuesday, while the season opener begins later that weekend.

It goes without reminding that Rea absolutely destroyed the WorldSBK field last year with the Kawasaki. Out of 25 races, he won 17, placed second four times, once third and once fifth. He suffered only 1 retirement throughout the year, while the final Race 2 in Qatar was cancelled.

Despite the strong challenges mounted by his rivals Chaz Davies of Ducati and Michael van der Mark of Yamaha, Rea prevailed.

So, what made him such a powerful force?

“What I’ve learned with my experience over the year is to stay calm and focused with my team. We have the best crew in the business, the best motorcycle underneath me. I feel like the pressure is always on me, I need to find my way with the bike. Once we did that last year, we were absolutely unbeatable,” explained Rea.

Leon Haslam is back to racing full time in WorldSBK since 2015. Son of the great Ron Haslam, he shows that speed is in his family’s genes.

“I’m just waiting to wake up, it’s like a dream. I had 9 good years in WorldSBK but I’ve never had an opportunity like this. To be involved with KRT, Kawasaki, joining the team that has dominated the last four years… I just can’t wait, I want to start racing now,” he said.

Tune in next week and beyond as we bring you news from the world’s premier production racing series.

  • The Aru Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Superbike launched their WorldSBK 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R.

  • Returning rider Chaz Davies is joined by newcomer and ex-MotoGP rider Alvaro Bautista.

  • WorldSBK 2019 marks the first time Ducati races with a V-Four bike.

It’s not only the season for wishing prosperity, it’s also when international race teams launch their teams for the 2019 season. The Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Superbike team launched their 2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R for WorldSBK 2019.

The team’s riders Chaz Davies and newcomer Alvaro Bautista will ride the new bikes in an effort to recapture the WorldSBK crown for Ducati. The Italian manufacturer had a stranglehold of the WorldSBK throughout the Nineties and it was through that championship that Ducati became a household name, before they ventured into MotoGP. However, they have not won a superbike title for the last seven years.

“We’ll be working with only one aim in mind: to win,” said Gigi Dall’Igna about Ducati Corse’s WorldSBK program.

The Ducati Panigale V4 R is also an important milestone for Ducati as it is their first V-Four-powered road bike. Indeed, the manufacturer created the Panigale V4 as their basis to win the WorldSBK title, and thereby breaking their long tradition of producing V-Twin superbikes. WorldSBK and World Supersport championships are production-based.

Make no mistake, the Ducati Panigale V4 R is a potent missile right out of the crate. On the other hand, the team and manufacturer are pragmatic in their approach.  “The project is still at an early stage and development has started auspiciously well, but we still have to perfect several details and we have a clearly defined development program,” added Dall’Igna.

Team rider Chaz Davies will spend his fifth year with the red bikes and is a regular hard charger. He’s not afraid to swap paint, rubber and leather with four-time and current WorldSBK champion Jonathan Rea of Kawasaki.

Alvaro Bautista could prove to be the dark horse of the factory with his extensive experience and knowledge garnered in MotoGP. He may well score a few wins this season.

  • BMW Motorrad is returning to the 2019 World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK).

  • The manufacturer will enter the 2019 BMW S 1000 RR.

  • Tom Sykes and Markus Reiterberger are the team’s riders.

BMW Motorrad announces their return to the 2019 World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK).

BMW is the one manufacturer that’s glaringly missing from WorldSBK. Their last effort was with the GoldBet BMW team which was disbanded after 2013. Their riders were Marco Melandri and Leon Haslam.

The new team will be racing the recently-launched 2019 BMW S 1000 RR. The bikes will be developed and prepared by BMW’s factory in Munich together with the Shaun Muir Racing Team.

BMW Motorrad announced 2013 WorldSBK Champion Tom Sykes and European Superstock 1000 Champion Markus Reiterberger as their riders.

The championship should heat up next year with BMW’s re-entry with the new S 1000 RR. The new bike is new from ground up with emphasis on higher power and compactness. While the stock production 2019 S 1000 RR produces “only” 204 bhp compared to the new bike from Ducati, you can bet that the racing S 1000 RR will be up there among the top runners.

There is hope among racing fans that WorldSBK 2019 will see the end of four-time and current champion Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki’s domination of the series. A one-horse race is never a spectacle.

The 217-bhp Ducati Panigale V4 R not fast enough? How about this Ducati Panigale V4 RS19, then?

2019 Ducati Panigale V4 R Debuts at World Ducati Première 2019

Launched at EICMA 2018, the Panigale V4 RS19 isn’t for sale to public. That’s because it’s the racing machine which Ducati factory riders Alvaro Bautista and Chaz Davies will ride in the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) in 2019. Ducati has been trying very hard to retake the superbike honours since their domination in the 90’s.

The most important thing for race bikes is power. The homologation model Panigale V4 R produced 217 bhp in stock form but it’s raised to 231 bhp with the race exhaust and tuning of the ECU. Judging from this, the Panigale V4 RS19 should make at least that same amount or perhaps even around 250 bhp! That V-Four engine was developed as a direct lineage from the Desmosedici in MotoGP, anyway.

Secondly, weight is always an enemy when racing. We can expect the bike to tip the scales at the 168 kg weight limit set by the FIM. Ducati was proud to show off the bike wrapped in carbon fibre.

The Panigale V4 R has winglets on the fairings, paving the way for them on the Panigale V4 RS19. WorldSBK is production-based racing, so certain features of the race bike must be produced on road-going machines.

The Panigale V4 RS19’s fuel tank has also been moved backward and seems larger to make room for the airbox. Ducati didn’t release more details of the bike, of course.

Looks like Jonathan Rea and Kawasaki will have some real competition next year.
