British motorcycle manufacture, Lexmoto, begins its venture into the French market with the new Pegasus 300 maxi-scooter.

The new motorcycle faces challenges from prominent Japanese models, namely the Honda Forza 350 and Yamaha XMAX 250.

However, the Pegasus 300 comes with a much lower price tag thanks to the British firm’s sourced its motorcycles from China.

While its competitor comes with advanced characteristics, the Pegasus 300 takes a more basic form. Still, it does come with handy features such as under-seat storage, UBS socket, full-LED lighting, a big saddle, a large windscreen and a TFT colour display.

Underneath the body sits a Euro5-certified single-cylinder 276cc and a liquid-cooled engine capable of producing 26hp @ 8,000rpm, which is plenty considering the Forza (with extra 50cc) produces just 1.8 horses more. The Pegasus 300 is also 7 kilograms lighter than the Forza 350.

Not only that, the Lexmoto Pegasus 300 retails at just EUR4,600 (RM22k).

Yamaha Malaysia may have just introduced the new NVX (which in all honesty, is a fantastic looking bike and superb value for money, click here to read about the NVX), but on the global front, Yamaha has just introduced another awesome looking scooter, the X-Max 400.

It is an update to the previous X-Max 400 with some styling and technical upgrades. In line with the current motorcycling fashion, the headlights offer LED tech and so does the rear.

The front now features new dual-clamp forks with 4.3 inches of travel, a feature mostly found in regular motorcycles, and houses 15-inch wheels with 120/70 sized tyres. The rear now offers twin shocks with 3.6 inches of travel and 13-inch wheels with 150/70 tyres.

As for stopping power, dual front disc brakes with 267mm rotors cover the front, while the rear is handled by a single 267mm rear disc. ABS is offered as standard on the X-Max 400, and it also comes with a parking brake as a standard feature.

The overall weight is down by 5 kilograms, with a new total overall weight of 210kg’s. The seat height is also taller than before and the undersea storage area has also expanded. Yamaha says that it can now fit two full-face helmets. There is also new storage space up front by the leg shields.

The updated Yamaha X-Max 400 also features other goodies like the aforementioned twin LED headlights and LED taillight, an adjustable windscreen, adjustable handlebars and a keyless ignition system, the latter is also offered as standard on the new NVX.

But though the new Yamaha X-Max 400 is a fantastic looking bike with plenty of awesome features, the sad reality is that there is very little to no chance at all of it being offered in Malaysia.

With our licensing structure making it difficult and expensive for regular commuters to obtain the B full license required for bikes above 250cc, Yamaha Malaysia (Hong Leong Yamaha) will find very little reason to offer it in Malaysia if sales is going to be mediocre.

It is for that reason that bike makers like Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda are currently focusing on bikes 250cc and below as there are more people with B2 license rather than B full.

Back in November of last year, we reported that SYM Malaysia, which is represented locally by M Force Bike Holdings Sdn Bhd will be offering the Cruisym 300i model sometime this year. Well that time has come and we were invited to Seberang Jaya, Penang to a preview of the latest maxi scooter.

Back then, we reported that the Cruisym 300i will go on sale sometime in the second quarter of this year, but after poking our noses around and grilling the staff, there seems to be no indication yet on when the scooter will officially go on sale. But considering that only two models of the Cruisym’s have made it to Malaysia yet, the wait could go past the second quarter mark.

As for the price, no indication yet but we don’t expect the Cruisym 300i to be priced more than RM23,000. Last year, a press release sent out by the company indicated a price range of between RM15,000 to RM20,000, but since then, Donald Trump has become President of the United States and the Ringgit is a lot weaker against the US Dollar, so last year’s predicted price could no longer be relevant now.

Specifications – the Cruisym 300i is powered by a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 278.3cc single-cylinder SOHC engine. Power output is rated at 27hp and 27.3Nm of torque, while overall weight is 198kg and top speed is more than 130km/h. And unlike other Taiwanese maxi scooters, the Cruisym does not come with a speed limiter. The engine is mated to a CVT automatic transmission with an automatic tensioner.

The chassis of the maxi scooter is made up of a steel pipe underbone while the suspension consists of a telescopic fork up front with 88mm travel, and the rear consists of adjustable twin springs with unit swing with 92mm of travel. Brakes discs up front and the rear provide stopping power and are backed up by ABS, while a 12-litre fuel tank will give you a healthy range as consumption is rated at more than 38 kilometres for every litre of fuel.

Wheels are made of aluminium and size is 14-inches wrapped in 120/70-14 55P tyres up front, and 13-inches with 140 60/13 63P tyres at the rear.

The Cruisym 300i is one of the better looking scooters in the market today with a big, comfortable seat and aggressive, sporty looks. The LED daytime running lights look great, and the signals and tail lamp are also made up of LEDs.

There’s also plenty of storage space as the under seat storage space is capable of holding two half shell helmets. There’s also a USB port, handy for charging almost anything that can be charged by a USB port.

We’ll bring you more information on the Cruisym as we get it, but if you are looking for a maxi-scooter, this could just be worth the wait.
