Just after we published the story about Hafizh Syahrin returning to the Moto2 category with the Angel Nieto Team in 2020, a reader alerted us that the rider will be racing without a salary.

Instead, Hafizh will be paid an incentive every time he achieves a podium result. The team set a top five target for the Malaysian, judging by his previous experience and exploits in the class. He had finished in the top six in the 2016 and 2017 seasons before being tapped for MotoGP.

The rider revealed his desire to keep pushing for the best despite riding without a salary during a press conference yesterday.

“I do not know the cost at the moment. I need to look for sponsors to pay for the flight tickets, lodging and training while overseas.”

Hafizh also thanked Sepang International Circuit CEO, Dato’ Razlan Razali for being the most helpful individual during his struggles at the Red Bull KTM Tech 3 Racing team. He also revealed that there could be a MotoGP slot the following year should he finish in the top five.

Also for the first time, he also told the assembled press about his frustration with KTM and the RC16.

“My machine package was very different to my teammate Miguel Oliveira’s. I did not receive what was promised by the team. I was using an engine from the early season that was not upgraded at all.,” he said.

It was a bitter pill for the rider who lost out the 2018 MotoGP Rookie title by just 4 points to Franco Morbidelli who in turn was the 2017 Moto2 champion.

Selepas berbulan menanti kepastian tentang masa depan Hafizh Syahrin di saingan MotoGP musim depan, pelumba itu akhirnya mengesahkan telah menandatangani pra-kontrak bersama pasukan baharu di Moto2.

Meskipun enggan mendedahkan nama pasukan tersebut namun timbul dakwaan bahawa dia akan ke Angel Nieto, mengisi kekosongan yang ditinggalkan Jake Dixon yang telah pun berhijrah ke Petronas Sprinta.

Hafizh terpaksa melepaskan tempatnya di KTM Tech3 bagi musim 2020 tatkala pasukan satelit itu mengumumkan Brad Binder sebagai tonggak baharu musim depan.

Menurut Hafizh dia akan menandatangani kontrak penuh seawal hujung mingg ini di Buriram, Thailand.

“Saya akan ke Moto2 musim depan dan meskipun ini bukan cabaran baharu tetapi saya perlu membiasakan dengan enjin baharu,” jelas Syahrin.

Bagaimanapun, dengan pengalaman yang ada, Hafizh meletakkan sasaran untuk muncul kelompok lima terbaik di kelas kedua itu sebelum kembali merebut slot ke MotoGP.

“Saya akan cuba lakukan seperti (Tom) Luthi, saya mahu berada dalam kelompok lima terbaik. Saya berjaya menempatkan diri di antara 10 pelumba terbaik ketika dua tahun berada dalam saingan Moto2,” tambahnya.

Ketika ini, jentera Angel Nieto menggunakan chasis KTM bagaimanapun, musim depan, Hafizh mendedahkan mereka beralih sama ada ke Kalex atau Speed Up.

Jake Dixon bakal menggalas cabaran di saingan Moto2 musim depan bersama pasukan Petronas Sprinta Racing.

Menurut laporan Crash.net, pelumba berusia 23 tahun itu akan digandingkan dengan Xavi Vierge sekaligus menyaksikan Khairul Idham Pawi bakal kembali ke Moto3 dan bersaing bersama John McPhee.

Difahamkan, Dixon telah menandatangani kontrak dua tahun bersama Angel Nieto tahun lalu namun pasukan itu menjelaskan bahawa kontrak tersebut adalah ‘satu (tahun) tambah satu (tahun).

Hakikat itu menyebabkan Dixon dan pengurusnya mengadakan perbincangan dengan Petronas Sprinta untuk mengesahkan tempatnya bersama pasukan baharu bagi musim depan.

Sementara itu, senario ini sedikit sebanyak menjelaskan bahawa Hafizh Syahrin tidak akan kembali menyertai Petronas Sprinta di Moto2.

Sebelum ini, Hafizh dikaitkan dengan Petronas Sprinta tatkala namanya disenaraikan bersama Xavi Vierge dalam satu senarai pelumba Moto2 bagi musim 2020 yang dikongsikan motorsport.com.

Bagaimanapun, kini timbul dakwaan bahawa pelumba negara itu bakal mengisi kekosongan ditinggalkan Dixon di Angel Nieto, musim depan.

Hafizh Syahrin mengakui mula rasa bimbang tentang perancangannya bagi musim 2020.

Pelumba negara itu kehilangan tempat di saingan MotoGP musim depan apabila KTM Tech3 membuat keputusan membawa masuk Brad Binder untuk digandingkan dengan Miguel Oliviera.

Senario itu memaksa Hafizh untuk turun beraksi di kelas Moto2 bagaimanapun, menurut laporan Crash.net dia mengakui mula rasa gusar tatkala rata-rata slot telah pun diisi.

“Belum lagi!,” jawab Hafizh apabila ditanyakan tentang perancangannya musim depan.

“Sukar untuk berkata apa-apa ketika ini. Saya juga berasa bimbang, tak tahu ke mana destinasi saya selepas ini.

“Kemungkinan saya akan kekal di MotoGP, tetapi kita tunggu dan lihat keputusan selepas perbincangan hujung mingg ini,”tambahnya.

Keputusan mengejut oleh Johann Zarco untuk meninggalkan KTM hujung minggu ini bermakna masih ada kekosongan di KTM.

Bagaimanapun, Hafizh mendedahkan masih tiada perbincangan untuk kekal di Tech3 meskipun Miguel Oliveira beralih ke KTM.

  • He will join two other riders namely Hafizh Syahrin and four-time Suzuka 8 Hour endurance winner Michael van der Mark.

  • The round will take place from 13th to 15th December 2019.

MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli will join the PETRONAS Sepang Racing Team squad for the FIM Endurance World Championship round in Sepang International Circuit.

Morbidelli’s draft ends months of speculation that he will be one of the riders for the Sepang stint. He will join two other riders namely Hafizh Syahrin and four-time Suzuka 8 Hour endurance winner Michael van der Mark.

The squad will be supported by the YART Yamaha EWC squad who were former winners of the EWC. As such, the three riders will play their parts in riding the Yamaha YZF-R1.

The 2020 EWC opens with the Bol D’or in France before heading to Sepang for the second round from 13th to 15th December 2019. However, the Sepang round has a large significance to the EWC as it will form the qualifying round for “irregular” EWC teams to qualify for the Suzuka 8 Hour race.

Additionally, the race also features an FIA World Touring Car Cup round back-to-back.

Morbidelli expressed his concerns about riding in an endurance race. “I’m curious to see how an endurance race format suits me, and am really looking forward to it.”

Team Principal Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali is confident about the team’s prospects given the two MotoGP riders in addition to a multiple Suzuka 8 Hour winner. “We have faith that Franco, Michael, Hafizh and YART will deliver and we’re targeting the very top step of the podium.”

Is Hafizh Syahrin confirmed as a rider in the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Team for Moto2 in 2020?

The Hafizh saga started when KTM moved Brad Binder from Moto2 to MotoGP to replace Hafizh Syahrin in the Red Bull KTM Tech 3 Racing Team. Since there was no opening left in the premier class for 2020, Hafizh mooted to return to Moto2.

At this point, Tech 3 boss Herve Poncharal offered Hafizh a place in the Moto2 team. But soon after, KTM made the decision to pull out of Moto2 in 2020. Poncharal followed KTM’s plan and dediced to withdraw as well.

Hafizh went dark (as in quiet) since then.

However, something caught our eyes today.

Motorsport.com reported that Xavi Vierge will leave the Marc VDS team and join the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Team in Moto2 next year. With the latter team currently running only Khairul Idham Pawi, it meant that he is out.

But hang on!

The website also published a list of confirmed riders for 2020, and Hafizh Syahrin’s name was listed together with Vierge in the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Team!

This is the only website we’ve seen this thus far. There’s no official word yet from Hafizh or team principal Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali.

As for Pawi, it’s been rumoured that he will join the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Team in Moto3, replacing Ayumu Sasaki and will line up next to John McPhee.

Sejak KTM  Tech3 mengumumkan Brad Binder akan ambil alih tempat Hafizh Syahrin, desas-desus mengenai masa depan pelumba negara itu terus bertiup kencang.

Pelumba berusia 25 tahun itu sendiri mengakui telah mengadakan perbincangan dengan beberapa pasukan di Moto2 tatkala kontraknya bersama Tech3 tidak lagi di sambung bagi musim 2020.

Sementara itu, keputusan mengejutkan daripada Johann Zarco yang mahu meninggalkan pasukan itu hujung musim ini turut mencetuskan spekulasi bahawa Tech3 akan menawarkan slot tersebut kepada Hafizh untuk digandingkan bersama Binder dengan pelumba kelahiran Selangor itu sendiri mengakui berharap dapat kekal di kelas premier MotoGP.

Bagaimanapun, timbul dakwaan baharu bahawa Hafizh akan kembali ke pangkuan Dato Razlan Razali dengan menyertai Petronas Sprinta di Moto2 berdasarkan senarai pelumba Moto2 bagi musim 2020 yang telah dikongsikan motorsport.com.

Merujuk kepada senarai tersebut, Hafizh bakal bergandingan dengan Xavi Vierge bagi musim 2020.

Vierge meninggalkan Marc VDS bagi membuka ruang kepada Sam Lowes menjadi pasangan baharu Alex Marquez.

Keputusan Johann Zarco untuk meninggalkan KTM bermakna pintu masih terbuka untuk pelumba negara, Hafizh Syahrin meneruskan karier di kelas premier MotoGP.

Hafizh dijangka turun ke saingan Moto2 selepas tempatnya digantikan oleh Brad Binder bagi musim 2020.

Senario itu membuatkan KTM kekurangan calon untuk menggantikan tempat Zarco namun timbul khabar angin bahawa kekosongan itu akan diisi pelumba satelit KTM Tech3,
Miguel Oliviera.

Seandainya itu berlaku, ini bermakna Brad Binder ketiadaan pasangan berlumba musim depan.

Menurut laporan Crash.net, Hafizh akui dia masih belum mengadakan perbincangan dengan pengurusan Tech3.

“Saya tidak tahu. Buat masa ini saya masih belum bercakap dengan Herve (Poncharal) mengenai perkara ini.

“Keputusan Zarco mengejutkan kami semua tetapi mungkin apa yang diperkatakan dia adalah betul, dia perlu merasai semula keterujaan menunggang motosikal dan cuba menaiki podium.

“Saya tidak mengharapkan perkara ini berlaku tetapi jika mereka (Tech3) mahu saya kekal, sudah tentu saya mahu terus kekal dalam saingan MotoGP.

“Tetapi saya juga mendapat beberapa tawaran di Moto2, buat masa ini saya tidak boleh berkata apa-apa,”jelas Hafizh menjelang aksi di Silverstone.

Hafizh Syahrin kembali cergas sepenuhnya untuk beraksi di litar Silverstone hujung minggu ini setelah mengalami kecederaan gegar otak dan siku di Red Bull Ring sebelum ini.

Hafizh berdepa saat getir dala kariernya apabila dia masih belum mengesahkan masa depannya bagi musim 2020 selepas kehilangan tempat di KTM Tech3 kepada Brad Binder.

Bagaimanapun, susulan insiden di GP Austria, pengurus pasukan Tech3, Herve Poncharal mengakui bimbang dengan keadaan Hafizh.

Menurut laporan Crash.net, Poncharal menyifatkan Hafizh terlalu memaksa dirinya.

“Selepas cuti musim panas, Hafizh tampak sedikit gusar dan terlalu memaksa dirinya untuk berikan yang terbaik.

“Kami akan duduk berbincang dan dia perlu faham bahawa keselamatan dirinya lebih penting,”jelasnya.

Hafizh turut mengharapkan dia dapat kembali lebih baik di Silverstone setelah gagal menamatkan dua perlumbaan sebelum ini.

“Saya harap dapat melakar keputusan lebih baik selepas ini. Saya akan berikan yang terbaik di Silverstone,”katanya.

Tech3 turut mengikut jejak KTM untuk meninggalkan saingan Moto2 sebaliknya sertai kelas Moto3 bagi musim 2020.

KTM mengumumkan keputusan untuk menarik diri daripada kelas Moto2, Ahad lalu selepas berakhirnya GP Austria.

Tech3 yang menjadi pasukan satelit KTM di MotoGP tahun ini selepas berpisah dengan Yamaha musim lalu telah pun beraksi di Moto2 pada 2010 menggunakan enjin Mistral 610.

Mereka akan meneruskan gandingan di Moto3 bersama KTM dan akan menawarkan dua slot pelumba.

Pengurus Tech3, Herve Poncharal turut menyuarakan sokongan terhadap KTM yang menarik diri daripada Moto2.

“Saya faham dan menyokong keputusan KTM untuk memberi fokus sepenuhnya terhadap saingan MotoGP dan Moto3.

“Kami berasa bangga kerana dapat mengibar bendera Red Bull KTM dalam kelas Moto3, yang masih asing buat Tech3.

“Bersama KTM, kami berharap kerjasama ini akan terus berkembang di samping membantu bakat muda yang akan membentuk masa depan baharu di Moto3.

“Fokus kami kini adalah mencari pelumba yang bersesuaian dengan profil kami. Kami akan bersengkang mata beberapa hari ini,” jelasnya.

Keputusan ini sedikit sebanyak memberi bayangan bahawa pelumba negara, Hafizh Syahrin, tidak akan beraksi di Moto2 bersama Tech3 dan akan sertai pasukan baharu setelah tempatnya digantikan Brad Binder bagi musim 2020 di MotoGP.

Terdahulu, rakan sepasukan Hafizh, Johann Zarco turut membuat keputusan meninggalkan pasukan itu hujung musim ini.

KTM announced that they will withdraw as chassis supplier in Moto2 in 2020 and return the Husqvarna brand to roadracing. However, Hafizh Syahrin was offered a seat in the Tech 3 KTM Moto2 team recently.

However, while KTM says that they will continue working with the Aki Ajo team in the Moto2 category, there’s no mention of Tech 3 anywhere. That would mean that Hafizh may face fewer options.

The manufacturer made the announcement at their “home” Austrian MotoGP round, where they signed a contract with Dorna to remain in the series for another five years. That means the factory will continue for a total of another seven years.

KTM CEO Stefan Pierer says that the decision will allow them to pool their resources and concentrate on MotoGP. The sentiment was echoed by Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director.

Putting more focus on Moto3 would do the brand some good, as well and paves the way for the return of Husqvarna to roadracing. The brand is currently owned by KTM and it’s expected that a new model albeit using KTM’s technical expertise will be unveiled.

Honda has dominated the series for the past number of seasons.

There may be a silver lining for Hafizh Syahrin yet, now that Tech 3 has offered him a ride in their Moto2 outfit in 2020.

Tech 3 team principal Herve Poncharal confirmed the news recently, saying that the option is for Hafizh if he accepts. The Tech 3 Moto2 team also fields KTM bikes. However, unlike in MotoGP, the Moto2 bike uses KTM’s frame wrapped around the Triumph three-cylinder engine.

Poncharal said that he spoke to Hafizh a few races prior to announcing Brad Binder’s ascension to the MotoGP team. As such, Hafizh wasn’t entirely shocked by the news.

Hafiz, on the other hand, acknowledges Tech 3’s offer but is leaving options open. He looks to be more interested in joining the PETRONAS SRT outfit should a seat be available, instead.

“I speak (sic) to Herve, also I speak (sic) to Razlan (Razali, the PETRONAS SRT Boss). I cannot say 100 percent. I need to wait until maybe Austria, I will know where I go.”

Stepping back into Moto2 wouldn’t be so bad for Hafizh, since he’s now accumulated priceless experience in MotoGP. He’d been progressing well in Moto2 anyway, before he was picked to replace Jonas Folger in the Monster Energy Tech 3 Yamaha team in 2018.
