A tragic accident in Deeside, Wales has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy who had just bought a high-powered electric bike days earlier.

  • the victim was travelling at 42km/h before crashing.
  • the high-powered e-bike was a Chinese copy of the Stealth Bomber e-bike.

Jamie Michael Jones was travelling at 42km per hour when he crashed into a telegraph pole on the B5114 on December 12, 2021.

According to North Wales Police forensic collision investigator Gordon Saynor, CCTV footage showed Jamie cycling towards Garden City before leaving the path and crashing into the telegraph pole with no third party involvement.

It’s believed that the bike Jamie had bought was a Chinese copy of a Stealth Bomber, which can reach speeds of up to 110km/h and has an output of 800 watts. Electric bikes are required to have a maximum output of 250 watts to be classified as a bicycle.

Jamie suffered trauma to his abdomen and thorax and died in hospital shortly after the accident. Consultant pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson said Jamie’s injuries were consistent with impact at speed.

At the inquest into Jamie’s death, assistant coroner Kate Sutherland ruled that the death was accidental and acknowledged the pain and loss suffered by Jamie’s family. She offered her condolences and told them that “no inquest will be able to answer every single question that you have”.

This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety when using high-powered electric bikes. Riders should always wear appropriate protective gear and ensure they are operating their bikes within the legal limits of their country or region. Our thoughts are with Jamie’s family and friends during this difficult time.

  • Another accident and death occurred due to loose clothing.

  • It claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl this time.

  • This isn’t the first time.

There’ve been many motorcycle accidents caused by loose clothing and another such incident took the life of a 10-year-old.

The accident took place in Kampung Gong Tanah Merah, Jertih, Terengganu yesterday.

According to the victim’s aunt, who was riding the motorcycle, her daughter’s rain suit had gotten stuck in the bike’s sprocket. It then tied around her throat and dragged her off the bike. She passed away on the spot.

Chief of Police for the Besut District, Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad confirmed the accident and death. He said that the subsequent autopsy found that Tuan Nur Irdina Najwa Tuan Rosli had suffered mortal wounds to the throat.

She was spending her school vacation in her grandparents’ hometown.

This isn’t the first occurrence. Many media outlets and us have reported many times about the need to secure loose clothing while riding a motorcycle, for both the rider and pillion. Motorcycle occupants are faced with a chain final drive that’s open to the environment. The chain could act as a chainsaw, while the wheel and sprocket as pulleys.

Yet it seems that all the advice fell on deaf ears, just as countless advice on safe riding and proper techniques. Another frustrating was the victims’ family blaming fate (takdir) for the accidents, when it was their negligence and could’ve been fully avoidable. What? Is god responsible now?

Is every motorcycle supposed to be fitted with an enclosed chainguard like the Honda EX5?

Stop wearing jackets front to back and secure those loose clothing today. Also, bear tie-downs and soft luggage in mind.

  • A number of Yamaha Gen Blu Festival participants were involved in accident.

  • The scary crash was recorded on a dashcam.

  • The accident was caused by a car.

A dashcam video appeared on social media showing participants of the Yamaha Gen Blu Festival involved in a serious accident. It occurred on the LDP.

It appears that a black Myvi swerved abruptly from the right lane to the left. It’s front quarter struck another car which spun the Myvi around.

The impact caught a group of riders. The first rider almost it past but was caught by the bumper and thrown off. Two of his following buddies hit the car’s front and were flung over. A fourth  rider probably took the biggest impact as he t-boned the Myvi, smashing his head and upper body into the car.

The riders were wearing the T-shirts handed out at the mega Yamaha event we covered earlier today.

There’s no explanation what caused the driver to drive in such a way. There’s also no news on the bikers’ condition.

Our hearts and prayers are with then to get well soon.

We are alarmed by the increase of such drivers these days. Worse, there were trolls who blamed the entire episode on the riders despite the incontrovertible proof!

  • 7 bikers died after a pickup truck rammed into their convoy.

  • The tragedy happened only 500 feet (152m) from their bed and breakfast.

  • 3 more were injured and hospitalized.

While this tragedy happened half a world away in New Hampshire, USA, we as bikers ourselves could not escape the gravitas of the news of 7 bikers being killed by a pickup truck.

The riders had just left their bed and breakfast stay on their Harley-Davidsons. As they convoyed heading east, a Dodge 2500 pickup truck rammed into the group from the opposite direction. The convoy had gotten only as far as 500 feet (152 metres) from where they left.

Owner of the bed and breakfast, Jerry Hamanne said, “It was so devastating to see the bodies on the road. My God, I don’t want to see something like this again.”

The impact threw bikes, debris and the riders all over the road. One survivor said all she saw was grass and fire.

Passersby stopped to help the injured by administering first aid and calling the emergency services. Three persons survived the crash, two of them have since been released from hospital.

The police have not released the cause of the accident and no arrests were made, as of today. They issued a statement that the accident is still under investigation.

The riders were reported to be part of The Jarheads MC. “Jarheads” is the colloquial term for the United States Marines’ troopers.

  • A rempit botched a wheelie and crashed, which led to a serious accident involving other road users.

  • The dashcam video was recorded by one of the vehicles involved.

  • All parties were thankfully okay.

The rempit (hooligan) menace is nothing short of an epidemic on Malaysian roads. In this latest case near Gua Chempedak, one botched a wheelie and crashed, which led to a serious accident involving other road users.

In the video below, the Nissan Almera’s dashcam recorded a group of three bikes ridden in dangerous manner. One of them pulled a wheelie after the on-bridge.

Further down the road, while a woman in the car can be heard planning a potluck party, a white Mitsubishi Triton 4×4 swerved hard left. It ran over a crashed motorcycle on the road and went cartwheeling toward the vehicle that was recording the entire episode.

The Nissan swerved left to avoid the barreling Triton but was still hit on the rear right quarter, and sliced off the road.

The rempit was caught by passersby. All three vehicles involved i.e. motorcycle, Triton and Almera suffered major damage. All parties walked away from the accident, but we hate to imagine the outcome if there were infants or children in the vehicles.

As usual, the “onion army” was out in force in social media, criticizing the rempit who caused the accident. Some even went as far as questioning why didn’t the 4×4 driver just run over rider. Additionally, as commonly seen in accidents involving motorcycles, there were parties who criticized motorcyclists as a whole, as if we are collectively guilty.

Truth is, no responsible motorcyclist can stand even the sight of a rempit. These cretins serve no other purpose than putting the general public at danger and sully the good name of motorcyclists everywhere. And don’t get us started about those who turn into dogs who love to chase bikes bigger than theirs.

There has to be some concerted approach in ridding the streets of this menace. Criticizing on social media serves no discernible purpose.

  • A British coroner concluded that high-heeled boots contributed to the death of a lady rider.

  • She appeared to have been distracted by her footwear.

  • We recommend boots with wide, flat soles.

British coroner determined that it was high-heeled boots that caused a lady rider’s death in an accident.

The Dorset Coroner’s Court heard a statement from Coroner Brendan Allan. According to him, the rider was distracted by her boots before losing control of her bike and crashing. He added that, “It is with the utmost importance that bikers wear appropriate clothing, no matter how short the journey and no matter how familiar the person is with it”

The debate of fashion vs. practical biker wear continues to rage in this case. Some motorcyclists refuse to wear boots because “they are hot,” especially in our climate. Some swear by boots, but they are divided into two schools of thought. One group says any type of boot is fine, as long as they are boots. The other says that there is a specific type that’s safe for riders.

So, who is correct?

Motorcycle boots should have flat heels and soles, even if they are thick (or tall). Flat soles allow for a wider area for feet placement on the footpegs. Besides that, the wider area contributes to safety when you put a foot down on the road, especially during emergy stops.

Stilettos make ladies look hot but it isn’t so when you’re struggling for balance.
