Ducati XDiavel and Yamaha YZF-R1 named as winners in annual Red Dot Award.
The 2016 edition of the annual Red Dot Award has named two bikes in its winners list. They are none other than the Ducati XDiavel and Yamaha YZF-R1.
For the uninitiated, the annual Red Dot Award stands as one of the most prestigious awards for design in the world. Awards are usually given to highly deserving products that have set new benchmarks in terms of both creativity and innovation with their designs.
First of the two to win was the new generation Yamaha superbike. Interestingly, it was the base Yamaha YZF-R1 model and not the track-focused YZF-R1M model that took the 2016 Red Dot Award for Product Design.
This marks Yamaha Motor’s fifth consecutive Red Dot award to date, and now stands as a grand testament to the Iwata-based marque’s prowess in design.
Next up came the all-new Ducati XDiavel powercruiser that was named as the Red Dot Award 2016: Best of the Best in the Product Design category. Specifically, it was the Ducati XDiavel S model that took the award.
The bike stood out amongst an entry list of 5,000 products to impress a jury of 40 renowned international experts that collectively agreed on this bike deserving this coveted prize.
Based on the Diavel, the Ducati XDiavel introduced during EICMA 2015 sees the famed Italian marque finally breaking into a new segment with its first belt-driven and feet-forward cruiser model. (See more of the Ducati XDiavel by clicking here)
With the XDiavel, Ducati is set to welcome a new set of customers as how its Scrambler lifestyle sub-brand has. This is undoubtedly one huge milestone for the Italian marque as it celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
