MotoGP Winter Tests 2018: Johann Zarco Fastest in Morning Session

The 2018 MotoGP season has begun with the Winter Tests.
Held at the Sepang International Circuit, the teams are back to test their new machinery.
Dorna has put more restrictions on the number of tests this year, making this session all the more important.

While the first race of the 2018 MotoGP is a few months away, the riders are back for the MotoGP Winter Tests at the Sepang International Circuit, in which 2017 MotoGP Rookie of the Year, Johann Zarco sounded his intentions early by posting the fastest time.

The tests are customarily held in mid-February previously, but has been brought forward this year due the extra round at Buriram, Thailand in the 2018 calendar.

It goes without saying that the Winter Tests or also officially known as the Sepang Official MotoGP Test is one of the most important events of every MotoGP season. Sepang is the chosen track due to the weather which features high humidity, high temperatures and occasional torrential rain, besides the high speeds attainable. That makes SIC as one of – if not the only – track where they will look for “baseline settings” for this similar sort of variable weather and track layout, besides testing their new bikes, equipment and for the riders to get their mojo back after the holiday season.

In the first test session of the first day (28th January), Johann Zarco topped the timesheets with a time of 2:11.863 on his 21st and penultimate lap. Dani Pedrosa posted the second fastest time so far at 2:12.527 (0.664s behind) and Jorge Lorenzo in third with 2:12.897 (1.034s back).

Defending Champion, Marc Marquez is way back in ninth, having posted the time of 2:13.406, which is incidentally the exact time posted by Valentino Rossi in eighth. Rossi’s teammate Maverick Vinalez is seventh, with a time of 2:13.395.

The Yamaha pair is no doubt itching to test their 2018 machines which is utilizes the 2016 chassis, after they encountered the lack of rear grip in the rain in the 2017 season. The new bikes were officially launched just three days ago.

The times are still far behind the fastest Qualifying 2 time of 1:59.212 posted by Dani Pedrosa in the 2017 Shell Malaysia MotoGP round. Zarco recorded the second fastest Q2 time at 1:59.229 and Jorge Lorenzo was in sixth with 1:59.622.

The weather at SIC is overcast with the occasional light rain and the track is damp in certain spots. Its temperature has dropped from 30 ^oC to a low of 29.3 ^oC at the time this report went online.

Petronas TIDAK Akan Menaja Hafizh Syahrin Untuk Moto2 Musim 2018

Pegawai SIC telah mengumumkan bahawa Petronas tidak akan menaja Hafizh Syahrin untuk Moto2 musim 2018.
Desas desus itu akhirnya telah disahkan lewat semalam tetapi SIC juga telah mengatakan bahawa penunggang berusia 23 tahun itu akan masih berlumba pada tahun 2018 bagi sebuah pasukan Moto2 SIC yang baru ditubuhkan.
Petronas hanya akan menaja penunggang Moto3 pada musim hadapan di bawah pasukan Petronas Sprinta Racing, iaitu Adam Norrodin dan Ayamu Sasaki.

Petronas will NOT sponsor Hafizh Syahrin for Moto2 2018

SIC officials have announced that Petronas will not sponsor Hafizh Syahrin for Moto2 in the 2018 season.

The rumours were finally confirmed late yesterday but SIC also stated that the 23 year old will still race in 2018 under a newly-formed Moto2 team under SIC.

Petronas will only support the Moto3 riders next season under the Petronas Sprinta Racing team which are Adam Norrodin and Ayumu Sasaki.

The rumours that have been going around for quite some time are finally confirmed late yesterday when Petronas announced that they will not be sponsoring national rider Hafizh Syahrin to continue his Moto2 efforts in 2018. (more…)

Hafizh Syahrin Bakal Menjadi Penunggang MotoGP Negara Yang Pertama!

Hafizh Syahrin telah diatur untuk menjadi penunggang MotoGP Malaysia yang pertama pada tahun 2019.
Dia akan menyertai pasukan Petronas Sprinta Racing pada tahun hadapan, diuruskan oleh SIC (Sepang International Circuit).
Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif SIC, Datuk Razlan, yakin yang Hafizh akan melakukan yang lebih baik bagi tahun hadapan.

Malaysia’s First MotoGP Rider in 2019

Hafizh Syahrin is slated to be Malaysia’s first MotoGP rider in 2019.
He will join the Petronas Sprinta Racing team next year, managed by the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
SIC CEO, Datuk Razlan, is confident Hafizh will do better next year.

The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is determined to groom Hafizh Syahrin for the big time: MotoGP.

As was reported earlier, Hafizh Syahrin’s long-time team Moto2, Petronas Raceline Malaysia had split ways for the 2018 Moto2 season (click here for our report). Hafizh will join the Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto2 team next year. The team is managed by SIC.

SIC’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Razlan Razali has expressed the intention of having Hafizh in MotoGP with Dorna and MotoGP teams. “We have expressed our interest with Dorna and also discussed the matter with a number of MotoGP teams this past week,” he said.

But the 2018 slots have all been taken. “There are still slots available for new satellite teams in 2019,” added Datuk Razlan.

Datuk Razlan is confident that Hafizh will do better with Petronas Sprinta Racing, before making the leap to the top class.

The fact that Malaysian racers, including Hafizh, have traditionally done well in wet weather is not lost upon Datuk Razlan, “We also need them to do well in dry races. Hafizh has done well (in mixed weather races) here at and this is what we want.”

Datuk Razlan believes Hafizh will do better in 2018 as Petronas Sprinta Racing (read: SIC) will provide him a better bike and mechanics.

The target for Hafizh Syahrin is to finish in the overall top five in the Moto2 class next year. Syahrin is currently in 11^th this season, with one race to go. He had finished 9^th overall in 2016.

Difficulties saw Hafizh finishing last Sunday’s Shell Malaysia Moto2 race in sixth, after qualifying in tenth.

PETRONAS partners up with SIC to form PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team

PETRONAS and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) have joined forces to form the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team to further develop the future of two-wheel motorsports in the region.

The PETRONAS Talent Development Programme (TDP) and SIC Talent Development Programme (SICTD) have been brought together to assist with the ongoing efforts to nurture young talents.

SIC will take charge of managing the team and riders while PETRONAS will strive on expanding the brand’s image in the international motorcycle racing arena.

It was recently announced that PETRONAS and Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has entered a very monumental strategic partnership with the formation of a brand new racing team called the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing outfit. (more…)

Honda Akan Menganjurkan Konvoi Honda Asian Journey Ke-Dua Merentasi Semenanjung Malaysia

Selepas kejayaan perjalanan Honda Asian Journey yang julung kalinya diadakan pada tahun lalu dari Thailand ke Litar Antarabangsa Sepang, Honda telah mengumumkan bahawa akan adanya konvoi buat kali ke-dua dirancang untuk tahun 2017.
Perjalanan tahun ini akan memberikan para peserta peluang untuk menguji beberapa motosikal berprestasi tinggi Honda seperti model CB500, CBR1000RR, Africa Twin, Goldwing dan sebagainya.
Honda Asian Journey 2017 sepanjang empat hari ini akan bermula dari 26 Oktober hingga 29 Oktober 2017 di mana para peserta akan menunggang dari Melaka hinggalah ke Genting Highlands sebelum turun kembali menuju ke Litar Antarabangsa Sepang untuk Pusingan MotoGP Malaysia.

Honda will be organising a second Honda Asian Journey convoy across Peninsular Malaysia

After last year’s success with the first ever Honda Asian Journey trip from Thailand to the Sepang International Circuit, Honda has announced that there will be a second convoy planned for 2017.

This year’s journey will give participants a chance to test out some of Honda’s high performance motorcycles such as the CB500, CBR1000RR, Africa Twin, Goldwing and many more.

The four-day long 2017 Honda Asian Journey will be from 26 October to 29 October 2017 where participants will ride from Melaka all the way to Genting Highlands before heading back down to SIC for the MotoGP Malaysian round.

Honda has made an exciting announcement that the Honda group of companies in Asia and Oceania will organise the second ever Honda Asian Journey 2017. This time around, the Honda boys will be going on a 600km adventure across Peninsular Malaysia in a period of four days. (more…)

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that RM 30 million has been allocated for the development of a race track in Sungai Petani, Kedah. The announcement was made earlier today during a programme at Menara Alor Setar with over 4,000 Malaysian youths. (more…)
