Sebaik tiba, konvoi disajikan makanan bertemakan BBQ.
Following the success of Dominar Rides to Ipoh, the journey continues with a new group of Dominar owners, to a new location.
The focus of the Dominar Rides is to have a new experience for each ride and to enable a different group of owners to share the experience.
This time around, the participants of the second ride enjoyed a tricky ride to Rimba Valley Motocamp, located at Janda Baik, Pahang.
As usual, the riders got together at Circle Cafe, Kelana Jaya, for a light breakfast and briefing.
Upon arrival at the cafe, every rider is obligated to take the Covid-19 screening test to ensure the safety of everyone.
The convoy rolled out at 9.30 am and made a quick stop at the famous BHP Karak petrol station before continuing to Genting Sempah.
The ride up to Rimba Valley Motocamp allows all riders to test out the Modenas Dominar D400 capabilities going through tight corners and uneven terrain.
Interestingly enough, the riders were able to experience a short ‘off-road’ with their Dominar upon arrival at Rimba Valley before Captain Nik Huzlan led them to the campsite for lunch.
The adventure did not stop there as owners of the first-generation Dominar were given a chance to test out the new Dominar D400 UG.
The host, Capt. Nik also took a few riders for a knee-deep river-crossing challenge with the new Dominar D400 UG located about a kilometre away from the camp.
Despite the short route from KL to Janda Baik, it was quite an adventure for the rest of the convoy. And one that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
Meanwhile, the next Dominar Ride will take a new batch of owners on an adventure to Pengkalan Balak, Melaka on the 27th of November.
Selepas selesai, peserta konvoi terutamanya pemilik generasi pertama Dominar D400 diberikan peluang menunggang uji Dominar D400 UG di sekitar kawasan Meru Valley Golf & Country Club.
The Dominar Rides takes over from the popular ‘Explore The Unexplored’ that took place in 2018 and 2019. It has been rebranded to follow suit with similar Bajaj organised rides taking place all over the world.
The first ride recently took place in Ipoh, Perak and is set to continue all over Malaysia.
The Meet-Up
The first edition of ‘Dominar Rides’ returns with a group of 16 riders taking on a 440km ride to Ipoh, Perak and back to KL.
The ride is part of Modenas initiative to encourage Modenas Dominar 400 and UG owners to properly enjoy the capabilities of the ‘sport-tourer motorcycles.
Riders met up at Circle Café in Kelana Jaya for breakfast before they were briefed on the day’s programmes and routes.
The Ride
The convoy begins at Circle Café and we make our way to North-South Expressway led by a dedicated ride leader who was supported by a sweeper, a support car and a paramedic.
The first stop was at Tapah R&R for refuel and refresh before heading to Ipoh for lunch.
Despite being a wet week, the ride to Ipoh was fortunately dry with the riders showcasing impressive alertness and attention during the ride to Ipoh.
The Arrival
The convoy arrived at Meru Valley Golf & Country Club for lunch and the riders were served various local delicacies and desserts.
Since the group of riders consist of both the old and new-gen of Dominar, the group took the time to mingle and exchange remarks about their motorcycles.
The Test Ride
After lunch, the owners of the Dominar 400 were given a chance to test ride the latest Dominar 400 UG, which was provided for by Modenas.
The riders then shared their thoughts on the new Dominar and collectively agree that the new-gen motorcycle is definitely the best affordable 400cc bike money can buy at the moment.
Up Next
The Dominar Rides is set to take place all over the country with a series of 10 rides planned. The next ride will head to Janda Baik for a spot of barbecuing and river wading as well as more test rides planned.
Modenas is set to rebrand a range of Kawasaki’s bike range, starting with the Ninja 250.
This was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of Modenas Roslan Roskan, during the company track day event held at 3StonePark, Glenmarie, earlier today.
According to Roslan, the Modenas Ninja 250, which was previously unveiled in late 2019, will roll out at the end of Q1 2022.
Currently, the current plan is to rebadge a series of models ranging from 250cc up to 650cc. However, the scenario is still under evaluation by both parties.
Moreover, we were told that Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) would also send a representative from Japan who will be appointed as the Chief of Marketing (CMO) to smoothen the collaboration between Modenas and Kawasaki further.
Edaran Modenas Sdn Bhd (EMOS) was previously announced as the new distributor of Kawasaki brands in Malaysia, including a range of bikes, after-sales, and customer support.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) appoint Edaran Modenas Sdn Bhd (EMOS) as the new official distributor of the Japanese brand in Malaysia.
Taking over from Kawasaki Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (KMSB), EMOS will now run all of Kawasaki products, including motorcycles, spare parts and accessories, customer service and technical service.
The transition period of 6-months will take place with the help of KMSB Motors Sdn Bhd.
Meanwhile, current Kawasaki owners can still refer to any Kawasaki dealers for spare parts of service inquiries during the transition period.
Previously, we were informed that EMOS will handle all of Kawasaki’s 250 to 650cc range, however, no further details are available at the moment.
Modenas has launched three new colour options for the Pulsar NS200 ABS motorcycle.
The new Pulsar NS200 ABS is now available in Plasma Blue, Burnt Red, and Pewter Grey paint scheme with matte finishes. The wheels also feature an all-white colour.
However, with over 8,000 units sold since its launch in 2017, the popular street bike continues to deliver the same technical specification.
As a result, the Pulsar NS200 continue to set the benchmark as the most affordable 200cc motorcycle equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and capable of delivering 24hp and 18Nm.
Despite the colour upgrade, the Modenas Pulsar NS200 ABS continue to be priced at RM9,655 (exclude road tax and insurance) and will be available at every Modenas dealership beginning October.
It took about a year and a half for the Dominar 400 UG to make it to the Malaysian market.
For many months Modenas buyers waited keenly for the introduction of the new sport touring for the entry-level market.
Their anticipation fuelled by all the content on the Dominar UG coming from Indian content makers. And almost all of them had something good to say.
So naturally sales of the previous generation Dominar slowed to a little more than a grind. Modenas had previously committed to ordering a certain amount of Dominars from its business partner – Bajaj Auto Ltd of India.
So this was a lose-all situation – Modenas couldn’t move Dominars fast enough to place an order for the UG model, and the market didn’t want the old Dominar because of all the positive feedback the market was getting from India.
This situation forced Modenas into overdrive, and the much loved Malaysian bike maker introduced offer after offer, even lowering the price to a never before seen price for its segment.
Those that didn’t mind not having the latest toy took the amazing offers, while those that were patient would have their patience rewarded. Something I will get to shortly.
The gamble worked (obviously) and Modenas has introduced the new Dominar 400 UG.
I’m not quite sure if we can still call it new considering that it is in actual fact a 2019 model.
But for the sake of the Malaysian market and this article, let’s just call it new.
And boy have the patient been rewarded, because not only is the Dominar 400 UG more matured compared to the previous model, but at just RM13,997, it is quite easily the deal of the year! If only there was an award for that.
In case you were wondering what could be so different considering both bikes look almost identical. Well, it takes a keen eye and the real difference lays under the skin.
From the outside, the new Dominar offers an updated headlamp.
Doesn’t look like it but the design is actually slightly different and it is brighter too.
Then there is the new radially mounted ByBre callipers grabbing a 320mm disc.
It’s mounted on the left of the bike now, the old had its brake calliper on the right.
The previous callipers were also axial mounted, and because most calliper locks are made for radially mounted callipers, owners of the Dominar were sitting ducks when dealing with calliper thieves. Well, no more.
Rims are of a new design too, and it accentuates the overall sportiness of the Dominar.
The forks are arguably the biggest update to the Dominar 400 UG, replacing the conventional forks in favour of more advanced (and better looking) upside down forks measuring in at an impressive 43mm with 135mm of travel.
The new forks are a good mix of comfort and sportiness, with just the right amount of stiffness in the corners without too much dive under heavy braking.
The front end did feel light at speeds above 160km/h.
The front tyre felt like it was just skimming the road, which is a very unnerving feeling especially in corners.
The old Dominar had an issue with leaking fork seals that made the front feel wobbly if not rectified quickly.
Time will tell how the new forks will fare in the Malaysian climate.
Then there is the new twin meter panel set up, something like that on a Ducati Diavel.
The top meter displays engine related information like rpm, speed and warnings like when the stand is down or when you’re low on fuel.
The bottom meter panel displays a highly anticipated gear position indicator, something that Dominar and Pulsar buyers particularly demand for.
But the real difference in the Dominar 400 UG lay in the way it rides.
Though it is powered by the same 373cc, single-cylinder engine, but it now produces more power, is cleaner and more fuel-efficient.
Unlike before, the engine now features Double Overhead Cams, and this combined with the liquid cooling and fuel injection, helps produce 10PS and 10Nm of torque more than before.
This takes power figures to 40PS @ 8800rpm and torque is rated at 35Nm @ 6500rpm.
This even makes the bike sound angrier during idle, with a heavier bass making the Dominar sound sportier than before despite its single thumper set up.
And it is very willing to rev, more so than before while power delivery is linear with no loss in between.
This gives the Dominar a sportier character than before.
Making it feel more willing to accelerate harder while the ByBre brakes feel more than up to the job of slowing it down.
The new 43mm USD forks too are a good combination of sports and comfort.
During hard braking there is the usual dive, but it feels just right and does not feel like it’s diving more than it should.
On uneven roads the forks take on a different character of absorbing bumps and ruts. Suddenly it is more willing to dive and to soak up unevenness.
Almost feels like they’re electronically adjustable forks, but they’re not.
The rear monoshock is adjustable with a 110mm of travel.
This is probably what made the bike feel like it was floating because I did not adjust it to my weight. But knowing that it is adjustable works for me.
The most amazing thing about the new Dominar is its price – at just RM13,997 without insurance.
At that price, the new Dominar 400 UG is not just a great price, but is a steal.
You will not believe how much sportier it has become until you ride it.
The second-generation Modenas Dominar D400 was finally unveiled in Malaysia and is priced at RM13,997. The new Dominar received a series of significant upgrades over its predecessor.
The main headlamp now features split LED banks with increased lighting, the forks are now 43mm diameter upside-down units, and the rear monoshock is softer for more touring comfort.
Its 373.3cc single-cylinder engine is uprated to produce 40 PS (39.4 hp) at 8,650 RPM and 35 Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM.
Those figures take the bike into the KTM 390 Duke territory while gases exit through a new exhaust system with dual silencers.
Riding experience further enhanced with an assist and slipper clutch for smoother downshifting and corner entries.
While Modenas retains the split LCD cluster, the secondary display now features gear indicators, small yet relevant aspects that was greatly missed on the previous generation.
The new Modenas Dominar D400 are available in Charcoal Black and Savannah Green.
