The Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Malaysia has issued 14,514 notices for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and confiscated 500 motorcycles through the HRA 2023 Integrated Motorcycle Ops from April 18 to 25 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA).

Senior JPJ Enforcement Director Datuk Lokman Jamaan said that the notices were issued after carrying out inspections of 51,039 motorcycles while the motorcycles were seized due to the lack of insurance coverage, driving licence, and others involving 291 Point of Duty (POD) locations across the country.

He revealed that the six most common offences were no driving licence, expired vehicle licence (LKM), no insurance, expired driving licence, not wearing a helmet, and violating traffic lights.

According to Lokman, the correct use of a helmet can reduce injuries by 25%. Therefore, strict advocacy and enforcement measures will continue to be implemented by JPJ to reduce the rate of accidents and fatal accidents among motorcyclists.

Lokman officiated the Special Motorcycle Ops for the state of Perak in conjunction with the HRA 2023 Integrated Ops where a total of 7,146 motorcycles were inspected while action was taken against 1,313 motorcyclists under Act 333.

Memetik laporan Utusan Online, Zailani meminta agar pengguna jalan raya merancang jadual perjalanan sempena cuti Aidilfitri.

– Utusan Online

Royal Enfield recently opens its second exclusive showroom located in Perai, Penang.

  • The Super Meteor features an all-new frame and revised suspension setup.
  • The Super Meteor 650 features the same 650cc parallel-twin engine found in the 650 Twins.

During the launch, Mr. Rewi Hamid Bugo Chairman of Didi Group also confirmed that the highly-aniticpated Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 will hit Malaysian shores tentatively in July 2023.

The Super Meteor 650 is the third motorcycle to feature Royal Enfield’s 650cc parallel-twin engine after the Continental GT and Interceptor.

However, this is not simply an engine swap from the smaller Meteor 350 or a different aesthetic from the existing 650 Twin. Instead, the Super Meteor 650 gets a newly built frame, revised suspension geometry, redesigned fuel tank, new side panels and a new swingarm.

Also, the Super Meteor 650 is the first 650cc model from Royal Enfield to be equipped with full-LED lighting. In addition, the Super Meteor is also the first Royal Enfield to be fitted with upside-down forks.

Nonetheless, the motorcycle continues to offer conventional cruiser-style riding ergonomics similar to the 350.

Meanwhile, instrumentation comes from a digital-analogue display with tripper navigation.

Motorcyclists traveling from Malaysia to Singapore for work or other purposes are required to comply with the latest emission standards, which will be enforced starting from April 6th.

  • Malaysian motorcyclist must meet the latest emission standard in Singapore.
  • The new emission standard is set to take place from April 6th.

This recent development is important to note, especially for those who frequently travel to Singapore. According to a report by Paultan.org, every motorcycle in Singapore (including those from Malaysia) must adhere to the latest carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emission limits.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has set the latest CO limit at 4.5 percent, while the HC limit is set at 7,800ppm for 2-stroke motorcycles and 2,000ppm for 4-stroke motorcycles.

To ensure smooth enforcement, NEA will conduct emission inspections at the Singapore border checkpoints. Motorcycles found to be non-compliant with the emission regulations will be immediately issued a fine of the same amount as those for Singaporean motorcycles.

– Paultan.org

Coming in new for the Malaysian market is the entry-level Aveta VZR250 sportsbike which is dubbed to be the most affordable quarter-litre motorcycle in its class.

  • The VZR250 is Aveta’s eight model introduced in Malaysia.
  • The entry-level sportsbike is fully assembled in Malaysia.

Priced at just RM14,998, the VZR250 makes 24hp and 21Nm from its single-cylinder 250cc DOHC 4-stroke engine. Power is delivered to the rear wheel via a manual six-speed transmission with chain final drive.

According to Aveta, the VZR250 offers precise fuel consumption thanks to its electronic fuel injection (EFI) system).

Stopping power consist of dual disc brakes with radially-mounted 4-pot brake callipers at the front and 2-pot brake callipers at the rear.

Unfortunately, while the rest of its competitors features ABS (anti-lock braking system), the VZR250 relies on CBS (combine-braking system) commonly found in smaller-capacity machines.

The CBS system works by activating both the front and rear brakes when engaging the rear brake.

According to our sources in Aveta, the VZR250 is assembled locally in Malaysia and is rebadge from the Taro GP1 motorcycle currently available in other global markets.

The Aveta VZR250 is available in Jet Black, Fire Bird Red and Air Force Blue.

Honda officially rolled out the all-new XL750 Transalp in November last year at EICMA.

  • The Transalp features the same parallel-twin engine as the Hornet.
  • Fitted with Showa’s suspension at the front and rear with Pro-Link swingarm.

23YM XL750 Transalp

The Transalp nameplate returns for 2023 with the middleweight adventure motorcycle set to go up against the Yamaha Tenere 700 and KTM 890 Adventure.

Although the bike is yet to be available in Malaysia, we understood that Malaysian might not need to wait long as the middleweight adventure is said to arrive soon.

While there’s no official word from Honda Motorcycles Malaysia, we expect the XL750 Transalp could arrive sooner than expected.

Mechanically, the Honda XL750 Transalp features an all-new parallel-twin engine that makes 90hp and 75Nm. That said, the Transalp slots in between the 74hp Tenere and 105hp 890 Adventure.

Similar to Honda CB750 Hornet, the XL750 Transalp features a 270-degree crank and a new airbox which Honda claimed to offer a low-end beat and top-end howl.

However, the ride-by-wire system has been explicitly tuned to best suit the bike’s touring and off-road ability.

Electronically, the XL750 Transalp gets four riding modes (Sport, Standard, Rain and Gravel and User), each of which can be selected while on the fly thanks to a lefthand switch cube.

The Ministry of Transportation is proposing separate motorcycle lanes to be built on every new state and the federal road to curb road fatalities involving motorcyclists in Malaysia.

  • In 2020, the police recorded 418,237 road accidents, including 4,634 deaths.
  • In 2021, Malaysian motorcyclists accounted for seven out of ten road fatalities.

The proposed plan was said by the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak in a recent interview with NST.

According to the report, the ministry is currently in talks with the Local Government Development Ministry and local councils before submitting the plan to the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN) next year (2023).

The proposal is in line with the country’s Road Safety Plan 2022-2030, introduced in January this year with the aim to reduce the number of road fatalities by 50 per cent.

Also, under the plan, the ministry will make the anti-lock braking system (ABS) mandatory for every 150cc and above motorcycle, beginning 1st January 2025.

Sedih,” kata seorang netizen.
