Royal Enfield has officially unveiled the 2024 Himalayan 452, putting an end to months of speculation. 

The motorcycle, showcased on the brand’s Instagram page, exhibits a more muscular and curvier design compared to its predecessor. Notable features include an upside-down front fork and a prominent radiator, signaling its liquid-cooled engine.

The brand’s website prominently features the same image, accompanied by the caption “The Final Test” and an option to “Stay Updated.” Clicking this leads to a landing page with a countdown clock to November 7, 2023, marking the global launch date.

A teaser video on the site recounts the Himalayan’s journey since its inception in 2016, highlighting its success on and off-road worldwide.

Updating a beloved model like the Himalayan comes with its challenges, as it caters to a distinct rider demographic. Enthusiasts are eager to see how the 2024 Himalayan 452 lives up to its legacy.

  • Modenas is launching the Dominar 400 on 18th April 2018.

  • The launch follows the highly popular Pulsar RS200, Pulsar NS200 and V15.

  • The Modenas Dominar 400 will shake up the entire sub-400cc segment.

Modenas (Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd.) is set to launch another motorcycle which hails from their collaboration with Bajaj Auto Limited. Called the Dominar 400, it marks Modenas’ return to the big bike scene after the Jaguh in 1999.

Hailed as a sport-tourer by Modenas, the Dominar 400 is powered by a liquid-cooled, triple-spark, 373cc single-cylinder engine which produces 32bhp and 35Nm of torque. That gives the bike lots of pulling power and is able to hold high sustained cruising speeds. The 6-speed transmission has a slipper clutch for smoother corner entries.

The seating position is more upright for all-day comfort. The suspension is set on the plusher side to soak up bumps, also contributing to the overall comfort. ABS is standard on both ends.

Other contemporary touches include not one, but two LCD screens, the smaller one integrated into the fuel tank.

But what is more interesting is how much the Dominar 400 will be priced when it makes its entry into the Malaysian market. From our sources, it will cost under RM18,000.

That pricing will no doubt shake up the sub-400cc market. No 400cc motorcycle is priced as such, at the moment. Judging by how well the Pulsar RS200, Pulsar NS200 and V15 sold, we could expect the Dominar 400 to dominate that segment as well. Who knows, we may see more such larger bikes on Malaysian roads compared to mopeds in the future.

So, is the Modenas Dominar 400 a game-changer? You bet! The bike will be launched on 18th April 2018, so stay tuned.

The Yamaha MT-09 has been a popular model for those who seek an aggressive bike and exciting riding experience ever since it was launched in Malaysia a few years back, and a facelift or upgrade has been expected to be forthcoming.

Well, wait no more because Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) has launched the new Yamaha MT-09 tonight. Dato’ Jim Khor, the Managing Director of HLYM calls the new bike, “The Ultimate Street Fighter.”

Looking even more aggressive and radical than when its predecessor first hit the roads., the new model was inspired by its bigger brother, the MT-10.

Dato’ Jim continued, “Arrival of the new MT-09 marks another significant milestone for Yamaha towards its aspiration of becoming the desired lifestyle and recreation motor vehicle brand.

The engine is still the proven liquid-cooled, 847cc, inline-Triple but has now been hotted up with:

  1. Quickshifter
  2. Assist & slipper clutch
  3. Traction control
  4. Front and rear ABS
  5. Fully-adjustable front and rear suspension (inclusive of compression and rebound damping).

The most striking features of the new MT-09 however, are the new LED headlights and taillights, leaner and sharper overall styling and components. HLYM will offer the new MT-09 in two colours called Night Fluo (Grey) and Tech Black. It will be available from Yamaha Big Bike authorized dealers from February 2018.

HLYM has set the selling price at a competitive RM 47,388 (inclusive of 6% GST but not on-the-road).

HLYM also previewed the Yamaha Xmax 250 during the event. It is slated to be officially launched in March 2018, and no price has been provided yet.

  • The new Havoline motorcycle engine oils are especially formulated for urban riding.

Subjected to extreme pressure and heat in the engine, coupled to variable operating and ambient temperature, fighting off affluent of the combustion process, resisting being oxidized by moisture, engine oils lead a hard life in order to protect, lube, cool, and clean the parts of an engine.

Racing is of course and activity that’s harsh on oils, but lugging the bike at slow speeds in traffic is just, if not worse.

At extra slow speeds like those encountered in inner city commuting, depending on the state of tune (in terms of valve overlap) an internal combustion engine may not produce enough positive pressure from combustion or negative pressure from the exhaust tract to evacuate the burned gasses, leaving behind residues that end up as carbon and so forth.

In the meantime, temperatures increase due to lack of airflow and it’s the job of the coolant (if the bike is liquid-cooled) and oil (especially critical if the engine’s oil- or air-cooled) to keep temperatures manageable. Oils break down quickly in this environment.

Yet, the oil has to avoid causing the clutch plates to slip while being sheer resistant to provide optimum protection to the engine and transmission. (This is why we should never use car engine oils in a motorcycle engine. Click on the link below for our earlier article on this subject.)

That’s the main aim of Caltex’s new line of engine oils, lead by the flagship Havoline Super 4T Fully Synthetic SAE 5W-40 for motorcycles and scooters. The family includes semi-synthetics and mineral grades, as well.

C.O.R.E. Technology stands for:
Cleans and protects for a more efficient and cleaner engine to deliver superior performance.
Oxidation stability provides heat protection against oil degradation.
Reduces engine heat damage with superior oil stability for continuous protection.
Enhances acceleration through improved clutch grip even under high loads.

CORE Technology is available in all products except for Havoline Ezy 4T.

The addition of ZOOMTECH in Havoline Super 4T Semi-Synthetic delivers a 13% improvement static friction index (SFI) when measured the JASO T903:2016 standard for better clutch grip over the Havoline Super 4T Synthetic Blend SAE 10W-40. The term “JASO” may sound familiar to you – that’s the certification for the MA or MA2 clutch grip standards.

The flagship Havoline Super 4T Fully Synthetic SAE 5W-40 with C.O.R.E. Technology is suited for high performance, large capacity motorcycles. To cope with the high revving engines which generate additional heat, this oil has been formulated to be 50% superior compared to the industry’s standard in oxidation stability. It means the engine will be better protected against heat damage, and last longer.

We presented a question during the Q&A Session on whether there’s a need for higher viscosity such as 5W/40 or 10W/50 in view of our climate’s higher ambient temperature. Caltex is confidence that the C.O.R.E. Technology addresses the issue since it’s formulated against high heat oxidation.

As for the scooter segment, Havoline’s scooter range has been upgraded to meet the latest API SN service standard, for both semi-synthetic and mineral grades. All products are JASO MB certified, as scooters do not use wet clutch.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) has collaborated with Taman Muda, Shah Alam’s premier motorcycle centre, GT-Max Motors (M) Sdn. Bhd. to transform the long-standing Yamaha Star Shop to their first Yamaha Star Centre. The Yamaha Star Centre was launched on Sunday, 27th August 2017.

The Yamaha Star Centre offers a unique lifestyle showroom concept experience to Yamaha’s customers. The centre also incorporate the Yamaha Star Management System to enhance the level of aftersales service. The Yamaha Star Centre is an exclusive 3S (Sales, Service and Spare Parts) showroom, hence only genuine Yamaha parts will be used.

It is also noteworthy that HLYM’s Technical Department has issued a fuel injector testing machine to GT-Max’s workshop, and will follow through with other authorized dealers in short order.

HLYM is planning to increase the number of Yamaha Star Centres in stages throughout Malaysia to offer the same great experience to customers.

Another important point, GT-Max Motors (M) Sdn. Bhd.’s riders were the champion and runner-up of the inaugural Yamaha NVX Challenge race, held during the Jasin, Melaka Cub Prix round on 6th August 2017.

The launch event atmosphere was that of a carnival, attended by hundreds of people. GT-Max offered special one-day prices as a reward. There was also a lucky draw, consisting of prizes ranging from GT Max goodie bags, Samsung cellphones, to electrical items, to GIVI and X-Dot helmets, and the Grand Prize of a Yamaha Solariz 125 scooter.

The public were given the opportunity to test ride HLYM’s latest star scooter, the NVX 155. Customers’ motorcycles were also treated to a bike wash. An inflatable playground was set up for the attendees’ children.

Lending support to the event were GIVI Malaysia who drove up in their GIVI Bus; Dainese Malaysia who displayed their latest riding gear; Motorparts Asia who showed off their KYT helmets, Shoei helmets, X-Dot helmets, and a few other distributors of high-quality goods.

Gracing the event were various Yamaha motorcycle clubs.
