KTM 390 Duke

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke was launched in Malaysia. It features some of the biggest updates since its initial launch back in 2012. In fact, it might as well be called an all-new bike altogether.

Starting from its design, the 2024 bike has a much closer familial resemblance to its larger cousins, namely the 890 Duke R, 990 Duke, and 1390 Super Duke R. The new headlight cluster has also been redesigned to give the bike a new signature look. The radiator covers are moulded with spoilers, but thankfully, no winglet.

Highlights of the 2024 KTM 390 Duke
  • The Euro 5.2-compliant engine sees a capacity bump to 398.7cc from 373cc, hence a redesigned cylinder head.
  • There is not much in terms of power increase however, just up to 44.25 hp and 39 Nm, from 44 hp and 37 Nm from the previous iteration.

  • However, what KTM sought is not to lose engine power due to the more restrictive Euro 5.2 standard, hence the capacity increase.
  • The frame is now two-piece, with the aluminium subframe bolted onto the steel trellis main frame.

  • A new curved aluminium swingarm accommodates the rear monoshock.
  • The monoshock is mounted off-centre, enabling a larger airbox. A larger airbox should smooth out the engine’s power delivery.

  • The split piston monoshock is adjustable for preload and rebound (finally!).
  • Up front are 43 mm WP APEX Open Cartridge forks with 5-step adjustment for rebound and compression.

  • Braking duty is handled by a single four-piston caliper gripping a 320mm disc in front, and a 240mm disc at the back.
  • Cornering ABS is now standard, and as usual, the rider can switch to Supermoto ABS to deactivate the rear wheel’s ABS.

  • There have been market feedback than the Duke’s seat is a little tall for us Asian riders, so the 2024 KTM 390 Duke has an adjustable seat height feature to set it to 800 mm or 820 mm.
  • There is a new 5-inch TFT-LCD display, too. TRACK mode emphasises the tachometer display, while also bringing up the lap timer and gear indicator.

  • The said mode will activate the launch control feature (yummy!).
  • Unfortunately, all these changes have added 16 kg to the bike, now at 165 kg compared to 149 kg.
  • There are two colour choices: Electronic Orange, and Atlantic Blue.

The 2024 KTM 390 Duke is priced from RM 35,800, with the Quickshifter+ feature.

In a world where motorcycling is more than just a means of transport, it is a lifestyle, a fashion statement, and a symbol of freedom. The latest release from KTM, the 2024 Duke 390, ready to define the future of single-cylinder engine motorcycles.

  • With the 2024 KTM 390 Duke, you’re looking at a new beast that has been redesigned from the ground up.
  • Sporting a fresh and attractive look, an enhanced 399cc engine that delivers 44 horsepower, and a plethora of new electronic features, this motorcycle is all set to push the boundaries.

A Performance to Talk About

What sets the 2024 KTM 390 Duke apart from its predecessors is the revamped engine. With an increase in size from the old 373cc, this new engine promises better on-road performance. The improved power and torque figures indicate that riders can expect a smoother and more thrilling ride.

But the engine isn’t the only thing that’s new. Riders will get to enjoy a smooth shifting experience with the help of a slipper clutch and a 6-speed gearbox. The bike also offers new electronics like launch control and three ride modes – Rain, Street, and Track – allowing riders to customize their driving experience according to their preferences and weather conditions.

Connectivity and Control at Your Fingertips

Modern riders crave connectivity, and the 2024 KTM 390 Duke delivers with its 5” fully digital instrument cluster. Not only does it allow control over ride modes, but it also offers smartphone connectivity. This opens up features like turn-by-turn navigation, notification alerts, and music control, seamlessly integrating the bike with the rider’s digital lifestyle.

A Design to Turn Heads

The visual appeal of the 2024 KTM 390 Duke can’t be understated. The new design aspects like the fuel tank, tank shrouds, seats, and rear subframe give it a robust appearance, while the sleek exhaust and banana-shaped rear swingarm add a touch of elegance. Opinions might vary on the LED headlight design, but overall, the bike’s look is a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and functional design.

Safety and Usability

Beyond performance and looks, the 2024 KTM 390 Duke doesn’t compromise on safety and comfort. With features like dual-channel ABS, cornering ABS, and Supermoto ABS, riders can enjoy a sense of security on the road. The seating posture aims to balance everyday usability with a sporty stance, a critical aspect for those who use their bikes daily.

The Rivalry Heats Up

While the 2024 KTM 390 Duke aims to dominate the single-cylinder segment in the global market, it won’t go unchallenged. New entrants like Harley-Davidson X440 and Triumph Speed 400 are ready to compete, with the Speed 400 showing significant potential.

Final Thoughts

With its innovative design, enhanced performance, and user-friendly features, the 2024 KTM 390 Duke is all set to make a substantial impact in the market. The pricing might see a slight increase compared to the current model, but given the extensive updates and improvements, it’s likely to be justified.

This isn’t the first time that the next-generation KTM 390 Duke has been spotted testing in India.

  • Next-gen KTM 390 Duke caught testing again in India.
  • The upcoming single-cylinder naked motorcycle could feature bigger displacement.

In fact, from the previous sighting, we already conclude that the upcoming 390 Duke will feature a revised engine and rerouted exhaust system.

However, there’s also an ongoing rumour that the 390 Duke will get a bump in displacement to 399cc.

In an exciting development, the latest spy shot does suggest that the next-gen 390 Duke sports a larger radiator with a twin-fan setup (the current model only has one) as reported by AutoCarIndia.

This could suggest that the upcoming model offers more power, likely due to the increase in displacement.

While the turn of events sounds exciting, there is also the possibility that the extra fan is simply to help improve cooling for the current engine, similar to the one found in the 390 Adventure.

Also, the spy shot revealed a revised swingarm, assuming it’s lighter than the current model. The test mule also features a sharper fuel tank design, redesigned headlight and a wider saddle.

The new 390 Duke is expected to be launched sometime this year.

  • A prototype KTM 390 Duke was caught testing on the road.

  • The pictures show revised frame and chassis.

  • It is believed to be the 2021 model.

The KTM 390 Duke is one of the most rip-roaring bikes we’ve tested. Small as it may seem, the 2018 model rode more like a 500cc bike rather than a 372cc single-banger.

There isn’t others like it as most of its peers are dual-cylinder machines. But KTM made the 390 Duke in their “Ready to Race” spirit, hence the ability to use it for the daily commute and at a trackday. Many riders agree and it is actually KTM’s best-seller throughout the world.

And while we don’t see a reason to upgrade it, the manufacturer thinks otherwise, apparently.

Recently, RideApart reported that the prototype of the 2021 version was spotted testing.

Check out the photo. There’s a new headlight and TFT screen up-front. The front turnsignals are attached to the meter’s mount. Look closer and you’ll see the new frame and the engine is mounted on V-shaped hangers rather the single “bone” we see on the current model. The lower triple clamp behind the headlight is massive, hinting towards a change in geometry. Further back, the swingarm is likewise different.

The seats look thicker and bigger in the picture but they are probably dummies used during testing.
