KTM 390 Adventure

KTM globally introduced the 2023 KTM 390 Adventure earlier this year which saw everyone’s favourite entry-level adventure bike getting the spoked wheels as standard.

  • the entry-level ADV continue to make 44hp and 37Nm.

Fast forward a few months later, India became the first country in Asia to received the updated motorcycle.

The upgrade enhanced the bike’s aesthetic and beefed up the bike’s durability off-road. Also, the spoke sits within black-anodized aluminium rims with 19-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear.

Aside from the new rims, the 2023 390 Adventure continues to make 44hp and 37Nm of peak torque from its Bajaj-built 373cc single-cylinder DOHC engine. Additionally, the bike features two catalytic converters.

Other notable features remain available, including ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, cornering ABS and an ‘Off-Road’ riding mode. The mode allows for more rear wheel slip and reduces ABS intervention.

KTM also retained the steel trellis frame for the 2023 model year, including the WP Apex suspension that offers adjustable rebound, compression and preload.

Braking is done via Brembo’s ByBre radial callipers with 320mm disc at the front and 230mm disc at the rear. Also complementing the 2023 edition is a new colour scheme inspired by the KTM racing background.

KTM has introduced the 390 Adventure V in India, a new iteration of its popular adventure bike with a low seat height to appeal to shorter riders.

  • the low seat height allows for shorter riders to enjoy the 390 Adventure.
  • the new variant offers the same engine specification as the standard.

To achieve the approachable 830-millimeter seat height, KTM swapped out the bike’s entire suspension setup and installed the forks and monoshock of the 390 Duke naked bike.

The result is an adventure bike that’s much more approachable than the standard model. However, the reduced ground clearance may be a downside for tackling technical off-road terrain.

The 390 Adventure V is powered by the same 373cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine producing 44 horsepower and 27.2 pound-feet of torque. It also flaunts sophisticated technology such as a full-color TFT display, cornering ABS, and traction control.

Essentially, apart from the lowered suspension setup, the 390 Adventure V is exactly the same as the standard 390 Adventure, even sporting the same graphics and colorways.

The low seat height option will cater to budget-conscious riders who previously struggled with the tall seat height of the 390 Adventure. The bike’s affordability and performance-oriented features are expected to make it a popular choice in India’s adventure bike market.

KTM’s partnership with Indian automotive giant Bajaj Auto has resulted in a lot of developments for KTM’s smaller-displacement machines. The latest news from KTM is the upcoming release of new variants of the 390 Adventure.

  • KTM developing a premium version of the 390 Adventure.
  • The upgraded 390 Adventure to feature adjustable suspension sourced from WP.

According to Indian motorcycling publication BikeWale, KTM is set to release a premium version of the 390 Adventure equipped with adjustable suspension. This upgraded suspension system, sourced from WP Suspension, will make the already capable 390 Adventure even more capable and could result in one of the most capable entry-level adventure bikes on the market. The new premium version is expected to be called the 390 Adventure R.

On the other end of the spectrum, KTM is also reportedly working on a lowered version of the 390 Adventure. With a seat height of 33.7 inches, the current 390 Adventure is much taller than most Asian inseams. The new lowered version will be a welcome addition to the Asian market, where accessibility is a key consideration for many riders.

Both new variants of the 390 Adventure are expected to hit the market as soon as May 2023, with India being the first to receive them. When mated to the bike’s advanced electronic rider aids, tried and tested engine, and lightweight chassis, the upgraded 390 Adventure could set a new standard in the adventure bike segment.

KTM’s partnership with Bajaj Auto has been ongoing for over a decade, with the Indian conglomerate holding a 48 percent stake in KTM AG. Bajaj Auto handles the production of KTM’s smaller-displacement machines, including bikes with engines ranging from 125cc to 390cc.

The KTM 390 Adventure has been updated for 2023 with an upgrade that fans of the entry-level machine have been asking for – spoked wheels.

Also complementing the 2023 edition is a new colour scheme inspired by the KTM racing background.

A new spy shot has confirmed that Austrian motorcycle company KTM is working on a more hardcore 390 Adventure-type motorcycle.

It might look similar to the standard KTM 390 Adventure, but if you look closer, you could notice that it comes with an all-new swingarm and suspension setup.

The revised swingarm looks to be of CNC construction; however, whether it will make its way to production remains to be seen as it could simply be used for the prototype testing.

Another new component is the beefier engine brace, which looks like an aluminium construction.

Other significant changes include a bigger 21-inch front wheel – 19″ on the 390 Adventure – and proper wire-spoke rims instead of the alloy rims available on the base 390 Adventure.

While further details remain scarce, reports suggest that KTM might unveil the new motorcycle in 2023.

– Visordown

Not really, but they could, considering how big is the adventure motorcycle segment these days.

Previously, the adventure-touring segment is filled with a long list of big-bore ADV bikes, mostly ranging 1000cc and above.

However, the growing demand for ADV bikes has led manufacturers to create small and middleweight adventures machines such as KTM’s 390 Adventure and the 250 Adventure.

This could also lead Bajaj to turn towards the ADV segment with their own version of an adventure bike.

Moreover, since the Indian motorcycle manufacturer is already responsible for putting together the KTM 390 and 250 Adventure in Pune, India, it could potentially lead Bajaj to develop their version of an ADV bike.

One of India’s render artists, @abin_designs_511 has gone ahead and created a concept look of the alleged Bajaj Pulsar F250 Adventure.

However, the rendered image showed a concept that features a sports-tourer as compared to the more adventure looks on the KTM 250 Adventure.

The Pulsar F250 Adventure has a sleeker rear and a sportier front. It also features a large belly pan similar to the one available of most of the Pulsar range.

While this is just a render image, but it could also lead to the real deal soon enough.

A few days ago, there were reports along with a spy shot photo as proof that KTM is working on another variant of the 390 Adventure.

However, latest development has debunked that allegation as it turns out the photos was actually by Turtle Tech, an aftermarket parts firm specialising in adventure components.

The 390 Adventure in the photo is fitted with Turtle Tech additional hardware which includes, rally towers, bash plates and ADV upgrades for motorcycles.

The rally tower is developed in collaboration with Monkey Auto Crafts, Motourenn and Barageness.

A recent post by Turtle Tech on the company Instagram page has confirmed that the photos were actually a standard KTM 390 Adventure fitted with the prototype kit.

“Last week has seen quite a lot of speculation with our test proto spy pics. We thought it’s about time we set the records straight.

“We are Turtle Tech and we are coming soon.

“A first of its kind Rally Tower for the KTM Adventure developed in collaboration with @monkeyautocrafts @motourenn @barageness and tested by @asadracing from @motorsportmagnum

“We are currently under beta testing for our 4th prototype. Preorders will start soon so make sure you follow the @turtletechx page and watch this space.

“So, there we have it, not a new model from KTM, although the rally-spec additions to the popular lightweight adventure bike will be pleasing to riders of a certain disposition,” said Turtle Tech.

While it is a disappointment, we do hope that KTM would seriously consider expanding the 390 Adventure range with a Rally variant.

The KTM 390 Adventure was well-received ever since its global introduction at 2019 EICMA.

Despite the success two years later, the Austrian manufacturer actually ran multiple test mules of different designs, one of which includes a rally variant similar to KTM’s 450 Rally.

The test mule features a taller front section, with an instrument console and handlebar-mounted higher compared to the production 390 Adventure.

In the latest development, reports in India suggest that KTM is ready to roll out the production version of the 390 Rally.

The Rally edition is expected to offer better ergonomics, control and balance, especially in off-road conditions.

Spied photos show a taller clear windscreen to enhance riders’ protection against dirt and debris and improve riding ergonomics.

However, major parts appear largely the same as the stock 390 Adventure including the 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 43hp and 37Nm.

It is worth noting that the upcoming Rally variants will feature a new off-road mode that was recently introduced on the 2022 KTM 390 Adventure.

Riding on a steel trellis frame, the 390 Adventure utilizes WP APEX 43mm USD front forks and WP APEX monoshock at the rear.

Despite the rugged looks, the Rally editions are expected to maintain the 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels with the option to upgrade to wire-spoke wheels from KTM Powerparts.

Meanwhile, the braking system comprises of ByBre 320mm disc at the front and 230mm at the rear. Bosch dual-channel ABS is offered as standard.

Bagaimanapun, model 2022 menyaksikan sistem ‘traction control’ kini mempunyai mod ‘off-road’.

  • fork depan WP Apex USD 43mm
  • penyerap hentakan tunggal WP Apex belakang

KTM has been keeping things quiet for quite a while now, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t been busy. Spyshots of the 2021 KTM 390 Adventure has been going around online and its release date is closer than you think. (more…)
