In preparation for the highly anticipated 2023 Japan Mobility Show, Yamaha, a renowned manufacturer, unveiled its impressive lineup of vehicles set to grace the event.

The exhibition is scheduled to take place at the Tokyo Big Sight venue from October 28 through November 5, 2023, with press preview days just prior. Yamaha’s latest creations promise to deliver an exciting array of innovative transportation options for enthusiasts and the general public.

One notable distinction in Yamaha’s presentation is the terminology used to categorize its vehicles. Instead of labeling them as “concept” vehicles, Yamaha has chosen to refer to each as a “reference vehicle.” This nomenclature shift signifies Yamaha’s commitment to the practicality and real-world potential of these innovations.

Additionally, Yamaha will showcase a range of vehicles, some categorized as “special exhibits,” and others as “special exhibits with cooperation from Yamaha Corporation,” emphasizing collaborative efforts within the Yamaha organization.

Among the star attractions at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, Yamaha will unveil six World Premiere vehicles, four of which fall into the category of powered two- and three-wheelers.

Motoroid2

The Motoroid2, an evolution of the original Motoroid concept introduced in 2017 at the Tokyo Motor Show, is one of the headlining exhibits. Yamaha describes the Motoroid2 as a personal mobility vehicle with the ability to recognize its owner, stand up from its kickstand, and move alongside its rider, offering a lifelike riding experience.

Yamaha has achieved this advanced functionality through its innovative “Active Mass Center Control System” (AMCES), which encompasses features like self-balancing and facial recognition. The company’s vision for the future seeks to establish an intimate connection between riders and their machines, promising a uniquely exhilarating experience.

Tricera

The Tricera, Yamaha’s take on a three-wheeled vehicle, differs from its counterparts due to its electric powertrain and three-wheeled steering. This vehicle also includes a manual mode, allowing drivers to control the rear wheel’s steering, offering a more dynamic driving experience.

ELove

Yamaha’s ELove is a self-balancing electric scooter equipped with the “Advanced Motorcycle Stabilization Assist System” (AMSAS). This system eliminates the challenges of balancing at low speeds or when at a standstill. While Yamaha is not the first to explore this technology, its development aligns with the industry’s quest for a safer riding environment and the potential benefits for new, inexperienced, and disabled riders.

E-FV

The Yamaha E-FV (or EFV), short for “Electric Fun Vehicle,” is a minibike featuring the same powertrain as Yamaha’s TY-E electric trials bike. What sets it apart is the integration of Yamaha Corporation’s Active Sound Control technology, which simulates engine sounds when starting or shutting off the bike, enhancing the riding experience.

TMW

Although not a world premiere, the TMW offroad three-wheeler is a captivating addition to Yamaha’s showcase, demonstrating Yamaha’s proprietary leaning multi-wheel technology. This design promises off-road capabilities while maintaining stability on various terrains, thanks to its independent movement of the front two wheels and a hybrid engine configuration.

Designed to provide users with an enhanced electric mobility experience akin to an electric assist bicycle, the e-PO offers three operational modes: Full electric drive, Assist drive, and Pedal drive. This versatile moped is engineered to provide a safe and efficient means of transportation, particularly suitable for use on highways.

In another joint endeavor between Suzuki and Panasonic, the 2023 Japan Mobility Show will witness the introduction of an electric scooter, reminiscent of Suzuki’s 50cc Choinori gas-powered scooter, which gained popularity in the early 2000s.

This electric scooter, equipped with a motor originally designed for electric assist bicycles, is tailored for urban travel, emphasizing sustainability and convenience.

Suzuki’s commitment to exploring alternative energy sources is underscored by the unveiling of their inaugural hydrogen-powered two-wheeler. Although categorized as a test vehicle, this represents a significant leap in Suzuki’s hydrogen engine development endeavors.

An interactive display featuring a cutaway view of the test vehicle, incorporating a 70-megapascal (MPa) hydrogen tank and engine, will provide insights into Suzuki’s progress in this pioneering field. Additionally, Suzuki will host informative panels and presentations to elucidate their advancements in hydrogen engine technology.

The 2023 Japan Mobility Show will also feature the e-Burgman, a vehicle that Suzuki initiated demonstration experiments with in April 2023. This electric vehicle utilizes swappable batteries from Gachaco, and Suzuki aims to engage the public to collect valuable data on motorbike usage patterns and preferences, contributing to future advancements.

In a groundbreaking collaboration with SkyDrive, Suzuki’s exhibit will also showcase the “Flying Car” electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle. Production of this revolutionary urban air mobility solution is slated to commence in spring 2024 at Suzuki’s factory in Shizuoka prefecture.

While some Malaysians are still waiting to get their hands on the 2nd-generation Honda X-ADV, the Japanese manufacturer seems to already be working on a new generation based on the latest patent filed recently.

The evolution didn’t stop there; Honda extended the X-ADV’s influence, spawning a family of adventure-scooters, including the ADV350, ADV150, and ADV160 models. 

The recently revealed patent provides a tantalising glimpse into the future of the X-ADV, showcasing significant modifications to the bike’s front and rear sections. A key highlight is the reimagined headlight design, which underscores Honda’s dedication to functional innovation.

Departing from convention, the patent highlights a radical shift in headlight placement, with the lights elegantly nestled into the underside of the front end, curving over the front wheel. This arrangement features two headlight units, each equipped with three distinct LED bulbs.

Not to be outdone, the X-ADV’s rear section showcases a complete overhaul, marked by a redesigned tail and exhaust system. Departing from the traditional side-mounted mufflers that defined previous generations, the upcoming model boasts an under-seat exhaust configuration.

This shift not only enhances the bike’s visual appeal but also optimises weight distribution and centralises mass for improved handling and manoeuvrability. The patent documentation details this transformation, emphasising the reimagined exhaust layout and its integration into the bike’s frame, resulting in a streamlined and harmonious design.

Honda’s commitment to excellence is further evident in the intricate details of the patent, which specify the meticulous engineering required to accommodate the new exhaust system. The rear bodywork has been skilfully reimagined to provide clearance for the under-seat exhaust, a testament to Honda’s dedication to both aesthetics and performance.

Suzuki has unveiled its plans to introduce the highly anticipated 2023 V-Strom 250SX to the Japanese market.

  • The V-Strom 250SX is equipped with a robust 249cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine, delivering 25hp and 22.2Nm. 
  • Japan will be the fourth market to feature the V-Strom 250SX after India (country of manufacture), Philippines and Indonesia. 

Building upon the resounding success of its debut in India, the Philippines, and Indonesia, this latest addition to the V-Strom family is set to capture the hearts of riders across Japan.

With the official launch scheduled for August 24, 2023, Japanese motorcycle enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to experience the prowess of the V-Strom 250SX on their home turf. 

The motorcycle is propelled by a robust 249cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine, boasting an impressive power output of 25hp @ 9,300 rpm and a torque 22.2Nm @ 7,300 rpm. The six-speed gearbox ensures a seamless and thrilling ride for both city cruising and off-road adventures.

Distinguished by its advanced engineering, the V-Strom 250SX is equipped with a pair of single-disc brakes for reliable stopping power. The dynamic design is accentuated by 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels, with a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, both adorned with semi-block-patterned dual sport tires. 

Riders can expect a blend of performance and comfort, as the motorcycle comes complete with standard features such as handguards, an engine cowl, an LCD display, a USB charging port, and a rear shock with seven levels of preload adjustability.

Notably, the V-Strom 250SX boasts a remarkable ground clearance of 205mm and a seat height of 835mm. The motorcycle weighs in at 164 kilograms, catering to a diverse range of riders. However, for those seeking a more tailored experience, Suzuki offers a low seat accessory, which lowers the seat height to 815mm for added comfort.

The 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX will be available in three exciting colours; Champion Yellow Number Two, Pearl Blaze Orange, and Glass Sparkle Black.

The Japanese market can expect both the dynamic tricolor livery and the enigmatic matte black version to be offered upon the formal announcement of the model’s release. However, the global palette remains a subject of speculation. 

he excitement is building among Maverick Viñales’ fans as the highly anticipated RX-7X Maverick GP5 helmet from Arai is set to hit the market in early September 2023.

Suzuki Motor Corporation is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its flagship motorcycle, the Hayabusa, with a special edition model.

In a bid to commemorate this remarkable milestone, Suzuki has announced the global release of the exclusive Hayabusa anniversary variant, starting from July 2023.

The highlight of this limited edition Hayabusa is its striking new paint scheme, featuring a captivating combination of orange and black hues. The design is further accentuated by special colours adorning the drive chain adjuster and front brake disk inner.

Enthusiasts will also appreciate the original engravings on the muffler body and drive chain, as well as the 25th-anniversary emblem and a 3D ‘Suzuki’ logo displayed prominently on the fuel tank. Additionally, the motorcycle will come equipped with a single-seat cowl as standard, although this feature will not be available in the Japanese market.

While retaining the distinctive styling cues from the latest generation Hayabusa, including a single-pod headlight with twin DRLs, a full fairing, a twin-sided exhaust, and a split-style saddle, this special edition pays homage to the iconic lineage of the Hayabusa. The Hayabusa has gained a loyal following since its introduction, with sales spanning across 48 countries, including the United States, Europe, India, and Latin America. 

Boasting a cumulative series production of over 200,000 units, the Hayabusa has become an embodiment of Suzuki’s commitment to excellence and innovation. As a result, the highly anticipated 25th-anniversary model will be made available in various markets, although the specific launch details for India are yet to be disclosed.

Suzuki Motor Corporation invites motorcycle enthusiasts from around the globe to join in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the legendary Hayabusa.

Yamaha, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, has announced that it will be adopting a new recycled polypropylene material in its manufacturing processes for its powered two-wheelers. 

  • the new recycled materials have no risk of containing hazardous substances.
  • the material could also be used in other areas. 

According to Yamaha, the adoption of the new recycled polypropylene has been successful in its development process, offering even higher levels of strength and quality looks compared to conventional recycled materials.

While Yamaha has used recycled PP before, the new material has been developed from raw materials that have not yet reached customers and have no risk of containing environmentally hazardous substances. 

The newly-developed recycled PP will be used in the construction of the main exterior bodywork of its powered two-wheelers, specifically consumer motorcycle models marketed in ASEAN markets. 

However, Yamaha has stated that the new recycled PP material could also be used for areas requiring greater aesthetic appeal and that it plans to expand its use into other product areas.

Kawasaki has updated its neo-retro Z650RS with a new colour scheme for 2023. 

  • Kawasaki Z650RS was launched back in September 2021. 
  • Features the same 649cc parallel-twin engine found in the Z650 and Ninja 650. 

Joining the already available Candy Emerald Green is the new Metallic Moondust Gray X Ebony for the 2023 model year.

The Kawasaki Z650RS is the Japanese latest take on neo-retro naked bike jumping on the success of the bigger and bolder, Z900RS.

Continuing the firm’s trusted 649cc parallel-twin platform, the Z900RS 650RS makes a decent 67hp @ 8,000rpm and 64Nm @ 6,500rpm. 

The new colourway is already available in Japan since 1st November. 

Like its Z650 and Ninja 650 cousin, the Z650RS is equipped with the same 41mm front fork and horizontal link rear shock with preload-adjustable.

Braking is done by a dua twin-piston front callipers clamping on a 300mm disc while governed by a dual-channel Bosch ABS.

Other features include:

  • full LED light setup
  • classic analogue dial with digital display

Yamaha is set to celebrate the R1 legacy next year with the potent superbike reaching its 25-year anniversary.

  • The R1 is reaching its 25th birthday in 2023.
  • The 1000cc sportsbike could received major upgrade. 

That said, rumours from Japan suggest the Iwata manufacturer is looking to roll out a significantly updated R1. 

The R1 received its extensive overhaul in 2015 before Yamaha’s latest changes in 2019 seem to perform fairly well, with the superbike dominating the 2021 WorldSBK season.

While it may relatively outperform the Kawasaki ZX-10RR and Honda CBR1000RR-R, the R1 could be left behind after Ducati and BMW’s recent introduction of the new Panigale V4 R and M 1000 RR.

 

As both motorcycles make more than 200hp, the bi-crossplane 998cc 198hp might not be seen enough to go up against the Italian and German moniker at the WorldSBK. 

That leaves Yamaha with a dilemma regarding how they should proceed with the R1. 

However, a Japanese publication, Young-Machine, (yes, them again), reported that a heavily updated Yamaha R1 could be well underway. 

Thanks to a new render by YM, the R1 might be getting a complete overhaul of bodywork and engine development. 

Also, the R1 could get an all-new aerodynamic winglet and a higher peak power from its bi-crossplane engine. 

Interestingly, YM also claimed that the next-gen R1 would feature a special edition retro white and red livery, complete with a 90s typeface.

Although the new development might seem too good to be true but knowing how accurate Young-Machine usually is, we might be seeing a new R1 soon enough. 

Moreover, we are intrigued to find out how Yamaha plans to squeeze more power out of its inline-four-cylinder engine, which we think is already hitting its peak. 

Compact scooters is the preferred choice for daily commuting around the city. Which is why pint sized scooters are always in demand even for those who rides big bikes.

Countries in Asia including Japan are always seeking for  pint-sized scooters to stroll around town at ease. As such, Yamaha has released another budget friendly scooter in the form of the Jog 125.

If the Jog nameplate sounds familiar that’s because the a scooter with the same name made its debut back in 1983.

At the time, the Jog is equipped with a small 2-stroke engine but the latest generation Jog is powered by a 125cc single cylinder Yamaha Blue Core engine capable of producing a reasonable 8.2hp. 

Despite its small size, Yamaha claimed the Jog 125 has a range of 200km with a full tank and has a spacious 21.3L of underseat storage. 

Also important to point out is that the Jog 125 comes with Yamaha’s Smart Motor Generator (SMG) which function as the bike’s stator as well as starter motor. 

This allows the bike to execute silent startups. 

In addition, the Jog 125 only weighs at just 95kg, making it easy for riders to manoeuvre the bike around town and tight traffic easily. 

There’s also a hook at the front for you to hang your groceries bag if needed. 

The Yamaha Jog 125 is on sale in Japan for JPY225,200 (RM7.1k). 

If you’ve been to Japan, chances are you might have come across a unique-looking three-wheeler going down the road, especially around city centres.

  • Piaggio MyMoover is a Japan-only three-wheeled scooter.
  • They are designed as a delivery vehicles for day-to-day businesses.

These three-wheelers are small, affordable vehicles generally used by restaurants and cafes to deliver food and drinks to nearby customers.

There are many of these scooters in Japan; surprisingly, some are made by well-established motorcycle companies.

As such, the Italian scooter company, Piaggio, wants to be a part of the quirky three-wheelers market with the MyMoover.

The Piaggio MyMoover is a cute-looking delivery electric three-wheeled moped developed exclusively for the Japanese market.

According to Piaggio, the MyMoover features a two-wheel at the rear and one wheel at the front while equipped with a massive rear luggage compartment.

Interestingly, the Piaggio MyMoover is able to lean just like a standard Piaggio scooter.

Despite the vast payload (261 litres of cargo), Piaggio claimed the moped is as stable as a typical scooter.

Also, the overall structure is built to ensure that the weight distribution (between the rider and luggage) is loaded evenly across three wheels. This feature provides additional stability and a natural riding feel of a typical moped.

Powering the MyMoover is a standard 125cc liquid-cooled, a single-cylinder unit designed to provide workhorse-like performance.

Apart from the 261L of cargo space for the rear top box, the front luggage crack can carry additional 20kgs while the leg shield bag can store an additional 5kgs of luggage.

As for pricing, Piaggio is asking for JPY913,000, which translates to RM29.4k. Pricey? You got that right.
