Suzuki Burgman Street 125EX is the third scooter to join its new 125cc range after introducing Address and Avenis 125 in July.

  • Suzuki Burgman Street 125EX features a new SEP engine.
  • The Burgman Street 125EX offers better handling and riding stability.

Like its bigger sibling, the Burgman 400, the smaller Burgman Street 125EX is positioned as the firm’s flagship 125 range.

Like the Address and Avenis 125, the Burgman Street 125EX also features Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) engine.

Although the Burgman shares a similar base architecture as the Address and Avenis, the former is equipped with Suzuki’s latest SEP motor.

As a result, the Burgman makes 8.48hp @ 6,500rpm and 10Nm @ 5,500rpm.

According to Suzuki, the new ‘alpha’ version of the SEP engine also boasts high fuel economy levels and operates at a quieter level.

Other new features available from the new engine include Engine Auto Stop-Start, a new idle system and a new Silent Start System.

Other notable features include:

  • two helmet hooks
  • 21 L under-seat storage
  • two closable front compartments
  • USB port

The Burgman Street 125EX also offers additional stability thanks to a longer wheelbase than the Address and Avenis 125.

Meanwhile, braking is done via 130mm drum brakes and regulated by a combined braking system (CBS).

The 2023 Burgman Street 125EX scooter will only be available next year.

Kawasaki recently showcased a couple of their electric motorcycle prototype during Suzuka 8 Hours.

  • Kawasaki’s EV prototype makes an appearance at Intermot.
  • The electric and hybrid prototype will form the basis of Kawasaki’s upcoming EVs.

That was the first time we laid our eyes on Kawasaki’s electric and hybrid project, with both bearing Team Green’s current two-wheel range.

That said, since both motorcycles were prototypes, no further details were revealed to the public at the time.

However, Kawasaki took the opportunity to allow the public to take a closer look at their prototypes at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany.

While Kawasaki remained tight-lipped on its upcoming project, Kawasaki Motors Europe managing director, Masaya Tsurono, revealed that the prototype “will form the basis of an actual future production machine.”

Despite the push for electrification, Tsurono said that Kawasaki would continue developing cleaner internal combustion motorcycles as well as further research on e-fuel and biofuel.

The current conditions revolving around the COVID-19 pandemic are being handled as we speak but due to its highly infectious nature, all major events that usually pull in crowds by the thousands have to be either postponed or cancelled. The latest event to fall in this growing list is sadly INTERMOT 2020. (more…)

  • Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber Sport was introduced at Intermot 2018.

  • It is the “sportier” version of the normal V9 Bobber.

  • It features Öhlins shocks and stylistic updates.

Moto Guzzi unveiled a “sport” version called the Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber Sport at the Intermot 2018 show in Cologne, Germany.

The Sport features lower single seat and black pipes to “bring out the mean and moody” look. The fat front tyre is retained.

Other features on the Bobber Sport are fork gaiters for that retro look, cut-down front mudguard and lowered headlamp with a new aluminium fly-screen. The riding position is made sportier by installing lower drag bars with lower risers.

The shock absorbers are adjustable Öhlins units for “improved” handling and ride over the normal V9 Bobber. Megaphone exhausts will hopefully liberate some noise rather than sounding muted.

Moto Guzzi did not upgrade the bike’s performance, however. The Moto Guzzi V9 Sport is still powered by the very same 853cc, transversely-mounted 90o, V-Twin which produces 60 bhp and 62.4 Nm, instead of the new 80 bhp, 850cc engine which will power the V85 TT.

“Bobber”-style motorcycles have become very popular recently. The name “bobber” is derived from their shortened rear fenders hence “bobbed.” The bobber scene was invented by post-WW2 American riders. Although Harley-Davidson has been producing bobber-style bikes ex-factory for many years, it was the Triumph Bonneville Bobber which broke records as the manufacturer’s best-selling motorcycle. Other manufacturers had to follow suit, including Moto Guzzi with their V9 Bobber line-up.

  • Suzuki has finally unveiled the 2019 Suzuki Katana at the Intermot show.

  • The new bike blends classic elements of the original with fresh ideas.

  • The engine is based on the GSX-S1000F and produces 147bhp.

We don’t know about you guys and gals, but we were getting a little exasperated after being teased on and on the new 2019 Suzuki Katana.

We found ourselves yelling, “Oh c’mon! Show us the bike already!” at the screen everytime a new teaser video came on and ending with the Intermot message. We could hardly wait.

Well, the Intermot show now on and Suzuki has made good on their promises to unveil the bike.

The new bike certainly blends some of the most iconic aspects of the Katana with a fresh outlook. For example, the fuel tank’s lines blend in with the seat’s, as well as the knee cutout panels below the tank, the cut beneath the tank, the slope angle and colour of the mini windshield, two-toned seat, the silver paint emblazoned with bold red “SUZUKI” lettering and of course, the Katana logo.

On the mechanical side, the engine is based on the GSX-S1000F naked sportbike’s. That engine itself, on the other hand, was based on the 2005 GSX-R1000. Why choose an engine derived from “older” specs? Because the 2005 engine was long-stroked and had lots more low-down and midrange grunt.

Still, the new Katana’s 999cc inline-Four engine produces 147bhp.

As for electronics, it shares the same suite with the GSX-S1000F’s, meaning it has ride-by-wire throttle, power modes, 3-level traction control, ABS, slipper clutch and so forth.

The lighting system has gone all modern, too, utilizing LEDs all around. The instrument cluster has been taken over by a large single TFT LCD screen.

Now for some reality check. Will Suzuki Assemblers Malaysia bring the Katana to our shores? And how much will it cost? Let’s hope they do!

  • The new Suzuki Katana is finally revealed in the fourth and final teaser video.

  • It appears Suzuki have learned their lesson with the later Katanas and have now returned to the bike’s ancestor.

  • The bike will be officially launched at the Intermot show which starts on 2nd October.

The sword has been unsheathed: The Suzuki Katana finally appears in the final teaser video.

It is apparent from the video that Suzuki is going back to the original 1980 GSX1100 Katana’s design. That’s certainly wonderful news as the later Katanas were so ugly they earned the “Kan-O’-Tuna”  pejorative.

Ten Most Unusual Motorcycles (Part 4)

Besides, if Kawasaki can go modern retro with their Z900RS, surely Suzuki can too since it was the classic Katana which revolutionized motorcycle design, anyway.

The original GSX1100 was the work of BMW’s ex-Design Chief, Hans Muth. He gave not only the BMW R90S and BMW R100S the distinction of being the first faired production bikes.

It was said that he approached BMW with a concept called “79 Target Design” but was turned down as being too funky. So, Muth brought the design to Suzuki instead and it became one of history’s most iconic motorcycle.

The 1980 Katana’s design changed the convention of motorcycle styling. Apart from the angular bodywork, the “tank/body interface” where the downward sloping line of the rear part of the fuel tank join the forward portion of the seat.

So, heritage is all good and dandy, but where do we go from here?

The new bike’s design still retains some of sharp panels but a little more rounded to feel more contemporary. The silver-coloured bodywork is then mated to a blacked-out frame, engine and swingarm. The seat looks to be a stepped one-piece design, although the more observant among us would probably question the lack of a dual-tone seat.

The exhaust has also gone single-sided instead of exiting on both sides.

The handlebar appears to be high and wide. The rider’s knees seem to be pushed wide apart at the fuel tank. These points may allude to a seating position that’s halfway between a all-out sporty crouch and a totem pole-like upright.

Well, there’s just four days to got to the Intermot show when this went to print. We are just as curious as you about the technical specs of the bike.
