Ducati begins part two of the Ducati World Premier 2022 with the official unveiling of the new XDiavel Nera in partnership with Italian craftsmanship, Poltrona Frau.

The Ducati XDiavel Nera was the main protagonist of episode seventh of the DWP 2022 web series.

Born from the proud factory of Borgo Panigale, the XDiavel Nera comes to life from the values of two separate entity, Ducati and Poltrona Frau, that shares the same passion for design, craftsmanship, cutting-edge technologies and an aptitude for innovation.

The result is a sports cruiser produced in a numbered edition limited to just 500 units worldwide.

The Ducati XDiavel Nera features a ‘Black on Black’ livery that creates a sportier look enriched with Ducati Red aesthetics easily recognizable on the brake callipers and engine headcovers.

If that wasn’t enough, the XDiavel Nera comes with fully machined forged rims painted in glossy black.

However, the bike stands out thanks to the bespoke seat made of Pelle Frau (a soft natural leather saddled by hand developed by Poltrona Frau) available in five colours; Siam Red, Steel Blue Cemento, India and Selva.

The letter “X” is also visible on the seat, engraved through a sophisticated laser process to recall the name of the XDiavel.

Underneath the tubular steel frame sits the Testastretta DVT 1262 engine capable of pumping a maximum power output of 160hp @ 9,500rpm and 127Nm @ 5,000rpm.

The new Euro5 configuration also ensures the engine delivers a smoother response at low revs and a full curve up to the highest revs.

For 2022, Ducati also reduced the height from the ground of the saddle to 755mm to offer better riding ergonomics and comfort when travelling at low speed.

The XDiavel Nera also allow a maximum lean angle of 40-degree, thanks to a new 240mm wide tyre mounted on a rim with an 8″ channel.

Stopping power comes in the form of Brembo monobloc M50 callipers paired to a twin 320mm disc at the front and a single 265mm rear disc.

Other notable features include:

  • full-LED light with DRL
  • Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)
  • ABS Cornering
  • Ducati Traction Control (DTC)
  • Riding Modes
  • Cruise Control
  • Ducati Power Launch (DPL)

Owners can access its full electronic package via its colour animation TFT screen.

According to Ducati, the XDiavel Nera will make its way to the dealership in March 2022 (presumably a later date for the Malaysian market) and fits into the XDiavel range alongside the XDiavel Dark and XDiavel S.

1. The Ducati Diavel 1260S is 90% new.

That’s right, almost the entire bike is new, only the headlight, tail light and the dash has been carried over, and that too from the X-Diavel. Everything from the mud guards to the swing arm and even the tyres are all new.

2. The bike is longer than before.

Just by a few mm, but the longer wheelbase makes a world of difference especially in long sweeping corners. The bike feels more stable and more like a cruiser, but with a mighty engine to match its power cruiser persona.

3. The standard is only available in one colour while the S is available in 2 colours.

Ducati found that the Diavel was hugely popular in black colour and then chose to offer it only on the high-spec S version. The standard version is available in the sandstone grey colour seen here, which is also available on the S version. Disappointed? Don’t be. The sandstone grey is a stunning colour, even when it is totally dirty.

4. The seat is 10mm higher than before.

That’s right, the seat of the new Diavel is slightly taller which is great news for tall riders. If you are vertically challenged, don’t worry, Ducati has you covered with a low seat option.

5. The electronics package has been substantially upgraded.

The riding modes are brilliant, especially Sport mode as it makes the bike feel like a full on sports bike. You get 3 riding modes – Sport, Touring and Urban – a vast array of parameters like ABS, Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Cornering ABS, Ducati Power Launch (for those MotoGP-ish traffic light drag wars), a hands-free system that operates the keyless start and connects your bike to a dedicated mobile app, and a whole bunch more. And best thing is, you can tune these electronic safety nets down to the tiniest detail. Don’t like ABS interference but you want full the wheelie control on full alert? The bike will do that for you. No issues there.

6. There is no Carbon edition, just a standard model and a S model.

Just two models for now, and a X-Diavel later on for those who prefer a more cruiser-ish feel to their Diavel. The standard 1260 with no Ohlins and limited electronics and a 1260S which gives you all the toys, and some.

7. The Daytime Running Light is only available on the S model.

Yes that’s right. If you want the ultra-cool DRL headlight, that will cost you more moolah.

8. Ducati Quick Shifter is available as standard on the S, and as an option on the standard 1260.

Even you are thinking of buying the standard Diavel, opt for the DQS. It is the most amazing feeling to be banging home the gears with no loss of power and speed, no down time as you engage the clutch to hit the gears. You will thanks us for it later.

9. The tyres on the new Diavel are super sticky and work brilliantly in both wet and dry conditions.

The Pirelli Diablo Rosso III features dual compound technology (soft on the outside and hard on the inside). The outer, softer area is wider than before which gives you more grip even from mid-lean. The tyre gives you so much confidence in both dry and wet situations that it makes you feel like a better rider than you actually are, as this writer found out.

10. It is going to be launched in Malaysia next month – price unknown! Yet.

We are not sure of the exact date, but the new Diavel will be here very soon. And if you are in the market for a power cruiser that has performance to hunt down a sports bike, then this will be worth the wait.

Ducati XDiavel vs KTM 1290 Super Duke GT – Kedua-duanya adalah motosikal mahal, tetapi adakah ianya berbaloi?

Video: Ducati XDiavel vs KTM 1290 Super Duke GT – Both are expensive bikes, but are they worth the money?

Before building Ducati’s most successful cruiser ever, engineers and designers from the Italian bike builder spend many months living in the United States. They mingled with bikers, hung out with custom bike builders, lived the American motorcycle dream to understand what it is that gave cruisers their soul.

But when the Diavel was first introduced back in 2011, it was still very much a sports bike with a laid back riding position, rather than a cruiser. Ducati called it the ‘powercruiser’, they weren’t wrong but the Diavel could have been better. A better cruiser that it.

Fast forward five years, and Ducati tried again with the XDiavel by giving it a longer wheelbase, moving the foot pegs up front to give it the cruiser feel and some aesthetic touches. They also called it the ‘technocruiser’ in honor of the futuristic touches and the modern retro people who are likely to buy such a bike.

But though it has all the cruiserly touches like the wide rear tyre, belt drive, forward controls, low seat height, a long 30-degree rake, and the long wheelbase, the XDiavel still feels like a proper sports bike. You can ride this thing in complete anger and it will behave the way a proper super bike does with light predictable handling and loads of power on the upper end of the rev band, yes the engine is a complete screamer, just as you would expect from a Ducati.

The XDiavel may have the grand looks and a sophisticated design, but it is the engine that is the real jewel in Ducati’s crown. The 1262cc Testastretta DVT engine has the proper character of a sports bike, with 156hp and 129Nm of torque between 5,000 – 9,500rpm which means you really need to rev this engine to the heavens to truly enjoy all of its power.

The test bike we rode came with the optional Termignoni exhausts that protrude out from the bottom of the bike. This exhaust brings out the raw character of the bike – loud, powerful and brutal. In fact if you are going to buy the XDiavel, make sure to opt for the Termignoni’s. The only problem with them is that they can be a bit loud when riding on the highway.

However, I noticed something about the exhaust and the electronic riding modes. The XDiavel offers three different riding models – Sports, Urban and Touring – and each mode offers different throttle control, power delivery and such. But on our test ride to Mersing, we noticed that even the exhaust note changes with the mode. Riding it in Sports mode on the highway can be tiring as the exhaust is too loud and it tends to drone after a while even with a high-spec Shark Race-R Pro helmet. But in Touring and Urban mode, the sound mellows down dramatically and, dare I say it, is a lot more pleasant.

So though the XDiavel is more of a sports bike than a cruiser, taking it on a long distance ride to Johor and back was surprisingly fulfilling. The forward controls meant that my long legs could stretch for comfort, the big fuel tank gave over 300 kilometers on a full tank of petrol which is impressive, and the steel/aluminium fuel tank allowed me to clip on my magnetic tank bag which made the XDiavel perfect for distance touring.

However, the XDiavel is all about style, and on that note, this futuristic Ducati is the rockstar of the power cruiser segment. it is not always that you come across a bike with huge presence and gargantuan power and yet is still able to be gentle and docile when ridden. If you are not convinced about its sporting pedigree then know this, the XDiavel even has a feature called the Ducati Power Launch which gives it the most amount of grip and manages wheelie when you want to get off a line quickly – during traffic light drag battle perhaps?

There are two variants of the XDiavel available, one is the standard XDiavel and another is the XDiavel S, which we tested. The latter has even more exclusive touches like dedicated rims, polished black paint on the tank, Daytime Running Light, unique front forks, and Brembo M50 mono block calipers for the front brakes. Other features that are unique to the XDiavel S are billeted rear view mirrors, frame plates and forged, machine-finished foot pegs. The seats too are made of bi-material upholstery, and there is a Bluetooth module that lets you connect your phone to it and shows all your incoming text messages, and also shows you who’s calling.

The XDiavel is of course more suited to urban environments than long distance cruising or tackling corners. But fact of the matter is, the XDiavel can do almost anything you ask of it, and that is what we call talent. So has Ducati finally managed to make a proper power cruiser? Yes they have, and they have managed to add in a lot of style to it as well. But at little under RM150,000, the XDiavel is certainly not cheap, but who cares about that when you have this much style and power.

Ducati XDiavel wins world’s oldest prize dedicated to design excellence.

It wouldn’t be too far fetched to say that the Ducati XDiavel is the best looking bike of 2016, there were very few bikes that awed us as much as the XDiavel did.

Ducati’s first ever “power cruiser” has proven to be a stand-out in international Design competitions, having already bagged the prestigious European “Red Dot Award 2016”. The XDiavel has now picked up another award from the “Good Design Award 2016”.

The Good Design Award was established in 1950 and is the world’s oldest prize dedicated to the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial products and graphic designs produced around the world. For the 2016 edition of the Good Design Award, the jury evaluated over 900 candidates from 46 countries. The products evaluated ranged from electronics to robotics, from furnishing to graphics and vehicles.

In the vehicles category, the XDiavel won thanks to its unique silhouette, one that is recognised as a style, innovation and performance icon.

Hailed by Ducati as a true “Technocruiser”, the XDiavel wasn’t just a redesign of the standard Diavel, it was meticulously redesigned down to the very last detail; combining futuristic exaltation of mechanics and state-of-the-art technology.

The Good Design Award 2016 prize-giving ceremony took place on 27 January at the New York site of the Chicago Atheneum.

There is no word on how it is going to look like or what is going to be powering it, but this is not the first time that BMW has ventured into the cruiser market – who can forget the BMW that James Bond rode in Tomorrow Never Dies – the R1200C.

The slightly odd looking BMW R1200C of the 90s – BMW’s first forray into the power cruiser market

Both Ducati and BMW have wanted to take on the power cruiser market for many years now, and have come away scarred and bruised. Ducati seems to have learned a lot judging from how beautiful the XDiavel is, and BMW seems to be magically balancing good looks and performance in it’s current line-up of motorcycles.

Lets also not forget that BMW recently teased us with its own take on a BMW bagger called the BMW Concept 101, which is based on the K1600.

So what will be powering the new bike? Only time will tell but BMW has a vast array of powerplants to choose from; an inline-four, inline-six and even the well proven boxer engine. It remains to be seen what BMW will ultimately go for though.

So when will we be seeing such a stunning machine from Munich? A concept debut at EICMA this year sounds fitting.

In conjunction with its 90th anniversary next year, Ducati has taken the wraps off nine new models for their 2016 range ahead of the EICMA show in Milan, Italy.

The nine models were:

  • Scrambler Sixty2
  • Scrambler Flat Track
  • XDiavel
  • Multistrada 1200 Enduro
  • Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak Edition
  • Hypermotard 939
  • 2016 Hypermotard SP
  • 2016 Hyperstrada
  • Panigale 959

Present during the media preview to unveil the new line up were Ducati’s CEO Claudio Domenicali, three-time WSBK Champion Troy Bayliss, Ducati MotoGP riders Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso, as well as Ducati WSBK rider Davide Giugliano.

Scrambler Sixty2

The Scrambler Sixty2, which Ducati is targeting towards new riders and new markets, is powered by a 399cc, 41hp desmodromic air-cooled L-twin, with styling largely identical to its larger capacity siblings in the Scrambler range. Its Sixty2 moniker is drawn from 1962, the year of the first Ducati Scrambler.

Scrambler Flat Track Pro

Based on last year’s Scrambler’s 803, the Scrambler Flat Track Pro features a dedicated livery, side panel and seat along with a full throttle exhaust. Inspired by Ducati riders Troy Bayliss and Johnny Lewis at the 2015 American AMA Pro Flat Track championship, the model also comes with low variable section handlebars, a Termigoni exhaust and alloy wheels.

Multistrada 1200 Enduro

Designed to go against bikes like the BMW R1200GS and the KTM Adventure 1190, the new 1200 Enduro is a reworked machine that was built primarily for off-road use with 19 inch front and 17 inch rear spoked wheels, semi-active Sachs suspension and a massive 29-litre fuel tank, which Ducati is claiming will get up to 448km per tank. According to Ducati, the new Multistrada is its first full-fledged off-roader, and comes with a huge range of accessories designed exclusively for it, including all aluminum panniers and top boxes.

Multistrada Pikes Peak

The 2016 Multistrada line sees a continuation of the Pikes Peak nameplate, and the same style of upgrades on the DVT version of the Multistrada 1200. Notable features include an Öhlins fork and Öhlins TTX36 shock, Termignoni mufflers, a carbon fiber windscreen, red stitching on the seat, and stripes on the 3-spoke wheels.

Featuring an aggressive ground-up redesign from the 2011 Diavel, the XDiavel is the first Ducati to come with belt drive, and is aimed at those looking for a cruiser. The main highlight of the XDiavel is that its ergonomics are adjustable up to 60 different positions, with a standard fitment which includes an extended seat and passenger backrest. Power on the other hand, is supplied by a 1262cc Testastretta DVT (Ducati Valve Timing)-equipped L-twin that’s been tuned for massive low-rpm torque.

959 Panigale

The Ducati 959 Panigale is essentially the updated 899 panigale with bigger engine capacity, more power and some stylistic and feature related changes. Sharing the stylistic features with the bigger 1299 Panigale, Ducati claims that the 959 is a more useable everyday bike which is also a potent race track tool.

Hypermotard 939

For 2016, Ducati has fitted the Hypermotard with a larger, more powerful 939 motor which will also power the track-oriented Hypermotard 939 SP, as well as the touring-tuned Hyperstrada 939. All three bikes will have fully adjustable suspension, Brembo brakes with Bosch-backed ABS, adjustable traction control, and ride modes.
