Ninja 250SL debuts in Malaysia

Kawasaki Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd earlier today marked the introduction of its latest 250cc offering, the Ninja 250SL, in the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

The new single-cylinder-powered Ninja 250SL now joins Kawasaki’s other 250cc-class models, the Ninja 250 and Z250 naked. With the ‘SL’ moniker standing for ‘Slim’ and ‘Lightweight’, the Ninja 250SL is indeed Kawasaki’s replacement for its highly popular KR150RR entry-level sports bike.

Power comes from a liquid-cooled 249cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine that is primed with fuel injection. Developing 27hp at 9,700rpm and peak torque of 22.6Nm at 8,200rpm, the mill is paired together with a six-speed manual transmission.

Kawasaki states that the new powertrain package promises riders with a quick-revving nature, combined with “robust” low to mid-range torque delivery. Increased performance and prolonged engine life comes courtesy of a new radiator fan cover designed to direct hot air away from the rider and tank, even during idle periods. Kawasaki also states that the new entry-level sports model will be able to reach a top speed of 153km/h.

Living up to its SL moniker, the Ninja 250SL’s architecture is comprised of a compact trellis frame design measuring just 31.8mm in diameter. Unladen, the Ninja250SL tips the scale at just 151kg. The chassis is also primed with a pair of 37mm telescopic forks up front while the rear gets a five-way adjustable Uni-Trak bottom-link type suspension.

Stopping power comes courtesy of a 290mm-sized disc up front and a smaller 230mm-sized disc in the rear, both equipped with dual-piston calipers. The bike also rides on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 110/80 (front) and 130/70 (rear) sized tyres.

Side by side against its twin-cylinder sibling, the Ninja 250SL has a similar side profile. Other notable differences include the single headlamp unit, slimmer tank size, and a higher 780mm seating position.

Available from all authorised dealers nationwide, the new Kawasaki Ninja 250SL is priced starting from RM17,689. The price includes Kawasaki’s standard warranty offer covering two years or 20,000km (whichever comes first).
