Yamaha already have its 150cc naked street bike in the form of FZ-150i, but still they want to make one more model that sits above it for those who want more than their current FZ-150i. Meet the Yamaha M-Slaz, the premium 150cc naked street bike featuring the upside-down fork which never before seen commercially available with this kind of bike capacity. The highlight of this naked street bike is the use of higher rated components such as this lovely 37mm upside-down fork that usually reserved to 200cc bike and above. For superbike, upside-down fork can give advantage since the heavier part of the front fork is attached to the non-moving part of the bike (the frame), so that it is easier to control the bike when cornering since there is less weight at the wheel.
The engine is still 1-cylinder SOHC 4-valve and liquid-cooled. Bore and stroke measures at 57.0 x 58.7mm which is similar to the FZ-150i dimension.
The style of the headlight is minimal and bright enough with LED. It follow the MT series styling on the front end and doesn’t match the FZ-150i at all.
The tail light is also equipped with LED for more brightness and longer lasting illumination as LED is more durable than normal light bulb.
Interestingly enough, the meter is all digital and features the ‘negative LCD‘, which means the overall LCD is black and the font is shown in negative colour.
The switches are also similar to the MT series, but why didn’t this one named MT-15?
The rear suspension is monocross and the wheel is the same design as the one we see for the R25. The exhaust muffler is a little bit like the R15 for India and Indonesia.
