Triumph-Bajaj’s upcoming motorcycle was caught doing rounds for the first time back in February 2022.

  • The upcoming motorcycle could feature between 250cc to 500cc powertrain.
  • features Bonneville inspired components including tanks, headlamp and dash.

At the time, some spy shots were shared online, and we could see that the upcoming Baby Triumph would not be based on the Trident 660 or any of the Hinckley’s naked range; instead, the test mule looked similar to the firm’s Bonneville lineup, albeit a smaller one.

However, in the latest exclusive images shared by MCN, we can now take a closer look at Triumph-Bajaj’s first fruit of marriage.

These spy shots of Triumph’s ‘baby Bonneville’ look similar to the test mule seen earlier this year.

According to MCN, these photos were captured not far from Triumph’s Hinckley headquarters, hinting that it is in a later stage of testing and could be launched soon.

Triumph is tight-lipped on the bike’s engine capacity, but numerous reports suggest the affordable ‘baby Bonneville’ could range between 250cc to 500cc.

Based on the finishing, the new motorcycle indeed inherent Triumph styling cue and quality, with Bajaj lending a helping hand in developing the engine. As a result, while it could be Triumph’s most affordable motorcycle in its stable, they are not going to be as ‘cheap’ as you might think.

Moreover, you can easily capture various components inspired by the bigger Bonneville, including the tank, chrome filler cap, blacked-out engine cases, tubular frame, and round headlamp.

Meanwhile, we expect Triumph to roll out the new range in 2023.

We’ve been hearing about Triumph-Bajaj collaboration for a while now and although we’ve seen the motorcycle they are working on, both parties have yet provided the exact launching date.

  • Triumph-Bajaj partnership to debut the new motorcycle in 2023.
  • Expected to feature between 200cc to 250cc engine capacity.
  • Bajaj to manufacture the motorcycle in a new manufacturing plant in Chakan, India.

However, according to recent speculations, the Triumph-Bajaj partnership will release their first motorcycle in 2023.

The motorcycle is expected to make a mark in the premium entry-level class that is now high demand especially in India, Asia and Europe.

Despite no words on the engine capacity, the collaboration is likely to have engine sizes ranging from 200cc to 250cc.

If the launch is due in 2023, the debut model could make a surprise appearance at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy later in the year.

While it may carry Triumph’s badge, the motorcycle will be manufacturer out of Bajaj new manufacturing plant in Chakan, India.

This would aid greatly in ensuring the price point of the motorcycle which could also lead to a higher sales volume.

Although the sales of motorcycles in the UK fell for the third consecutive month in June mid-way into 2022, the sales figure still comfortably exceeded the numbers recorded back in 2021.

  • Triumph sold 225 units of the Trident 660 in June 2022.
  • Honda retains the lead with most motorcycle sold in the June.

A total of 63,963 units of motorcycles were sold during the first six months of 2022, exceeding the 58,105 units sold during the same period last year. Despite the downward trend, things are still looking positive for the two-wheels market.

While Honda continue to take top spot of the UK sales charts with 2,200 units sold in June alone, Triumph Motorcycles made the most impressive start to the year, by leapfrogging Yamaha to ranked second as the most popular brand in the country.

In addition, Triumph’s middle-weight  motorcycle, the Trident 660 emerged as the best selling motorcycle with 225 units sold in June.

Thanks to its affordable price tag, the Trident 660 is fast becoming a favourite not just for beginners but also seasoned riders.

In terms of firepower, the all-new Trident comes with a 660cc three-cylinder DOHC liquid-cooled engine that produces a respectable 80hp at 10,250rpm and 64Nm of torque at 6,250rpm. This package offers a punchy power delivery throughout its rev range together with a unique triple-cylinder soundtrack.

A six-speed manual transmission handles all the power delivery to its rear wheel and that is further enhanced with the presence of an assist/slipper clutch. There’s also the addition of a ride-by-wire throttle, selectable riding modes, and switchable traction control for even greater riding efficiency across the board.

Triumph Motorcycles has revealed more details and features of the TE-1 Project developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering.

  • final test results reveal an astonishing 175hp with a 161km range.
  • the TE-1 is almost on par with Triumph’s Speed Triple 1200 RS.
  • to remain as a prototype with no clear indication it will go into production.

The British firm has released the final prototype test results, and the all-electric sportsbike reveals a remarkable 175hp with a 161km range.

According to Triumph, the TE-1 recorded range significantly exceeds the real-world capacity of an equivalent electric motorcycle available today.

In addition, the TE-1 makes 130kW (175hp) peak power and can hit 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds.

This almost puts the TE-1 on par with the firm’s flagship Speed Triple 1200 RS, which makes 177.5hp and 125Nm.

Also, the bike only needs 20 minutes of charging time to achieve 80%, making it the fastest charging time for today’s equivalent electric motorcycles. Triumph also claimed that the TE-1 is 20% lighter (220kg) than any of its competitors.

“We are incredibly proud to be able to share such positive outcomes from the completion of Project Triumph TE‑1, where the prototype demonstrator has exceeded many of our initial targets and expectations,” said Nick Bloor, CEO, Triumph Motorcycles

“Everyone on the team is thrilled with the results we have achieved with our partners, and how the outcomes of the project will feed into the electric future to come from Triumph.”

“WAE are delighted to have been involved in this exciting programme to deliver the TE-1 prototype,” said Dyrr Ardash, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Williams Advanced Engineering.

“Since its conception in 2018, all the partners have worked with collaboration, innovation and passion to bring the boundary breaking prototype to life. It is pleasing to hear positive rider comments which confirms that the dynamics of the bike are aligned with Triumph’s DNA.

“This has been underpinned by the class-leading Battery and Control System that WAE has produced within a lightweight and integrated package.

“This core WAE technology has allowed us to exceed performance and charging targets for the battery which we look forward to seeing in future powertrains.”
he added.

Despite the exciting news, the TE-1 Project is yet ready for production, and it could remain a prototype to inspire a production-ready electric motorcycle in the near future.

Triumph Motorcycles has enjoyed success outside of the UK for 2022, with the British company has broken its record for the most bikes registered in one year in Italy.

  • Triumph sold a record-breaking 6,088 units between June 2021 and July 2022.
  • The Triumph Trident 660 emerged as the most popular motorcycle in Italy.

For the first time in the company’s history, Triumph sold over 6,000 units between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2022, breaking the previous record of 5,749 bikes sold back in 2008.

Moreover, Triumph marks an increase of over 50% compared to the company’s 2019 sales.

On another note, it also signals the company’s recovery in the Italian market after the 2008 financial crisis while proving effective in dealing with the Covid-19 situation.

Also, Triumph’s made a considerable leap since the firm expanded its dealer network in the region. The company has added ten new dealers over the last two years, while 17 new showrooms have been opened.

According to reports, the Trident 660 took the top spot with 18% of the share, followed by Tiger 900 (17%).

Triumph Motorcycles is renaming the Street Twin and Street Scrambler models for 2023.

  • Triumph renamed the Street Twin and Street Scrambler to Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900.
  • The name change is to follow the same pattern as the Tiger 900 and Tiger 1200.

The alleged report came out in May this year, but the latest development has confirmed that the British firm will rename them Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900, respectively.

Triumph revealed the name change via the 2023 online Owner Handbook Library.

The handbook officially refers to the Street Twin and the Street Scrambler as Speed Twin 900, Speed Twin 1200 and Scrambler 900.

Below is the comparison between the 2022 owners handbook and the 2023 owners handbook:

Despite the name change, the Speed Twin 900/1200 and Scrambler 900 remain identical with the 2022 model year.

Moreover, the new names allow Triumph to streamline the existing range by following the same pattern the firm established with the Tiger 900 and Tiger 1200.

Triumph Motorcycles has announced it has acquired kids electric bike builder OSET.

  • Founded in OSET has sold over 40,000 bikes worldwide.
  • OSET specializes in electric dirt bikes for kids.

According to Triumph, the deal allows both companies to share their expertise and grow internationally together.

OSET was established in 2004 by Ian Smith, who wanted to build an electric dirt bike for his son, Oliver.

After moving to a new UK headquarters in East Sussex from America in 2010, OSET has sold more than 40,000 bikes globally by developing an in-house electric powertrain.

Meanwhile, the latest acquisition by Triumph comes just ahead of the anticipated launch of the company’s motocross and enduro range.

“The acquisition of OSET sits within Triumph’s strategy of entering the off-road segment.

“We are excited about the opportunity of joining forces with OSET Bikes: a dynamic brand that has been encouraging children into motorcycling for many years and have been at the forefront of developing electric trials bikes for fun and competition,” said Nick Bloor, Triumph CEO.

Meanwhile, Smith has assured that the OSET brand will remain as it is despite the acquisition by Triumph.

“The OSET brand will remain as OSET and will continue to serve the trials and off-road motorcycling community.

“We are now better positioned to develop and innovate across our range while enjoying the security of scale and market position Triumph can offer OSET,” he said.

Triumph Motorcycles has announced that the company’s first electric prototype has completed its final testing and is set for the full reveal in July.

The TE-1 has officially completed its final stage of the testing process.

Developed in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering and the Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick, the British marquee will unveil the TE-1 on 12 July 2022.

On that date, Triumph will show the bike and reveal the technical aspects of the machine, including the range and battery charging time.

However, most importantly, the full reveal of the working prototype will also mark the company’s intentions for the future.

Digital designer Oberdan Bezzi sure thinks so, and this Triumph Trident 660 RR render of his gives us an idea how it should look like…

The Triumph Street Triple 765 is probably among the best middleweight street machine we have yet to test out since its launch in Malaysia back in 2019.

Nevertheless, we still adore the bike from afar, appreciating the British-built machine from the get-go.

Fast forward to 2022, it seems the boys at Hinckley is already busy working on an updated version of the Street Triple, as proven by these new spy shot published by RideApart.

Instantly, the first thing you’ll capture is probably the shining golden glow of the new Ohlins front fork.

The Ohlins suspension system replaces the fully-adjustable 41mm upside-down Showa Big Piston Fork that’s currently available on the Street Triple R and Street Triple RS.

Despite the significant updates, whether the rear suspension matches the new model’s front Ohlins setup is unclear.

The Street Triple R is currently fitted with a Showa monoshock, while the RS gets the fully-adjustable Ohlins STX40 monoshock.

Other notable cosmetic changes include a belly pan similar to the current RS, a carbon fibre hugger and new grab rails at the rear of the pillion seat.

The Street Triple might also get additional colour options and other electronics upgrades.

However, further details will remain a mystery, and we could only speculate what’s in store for us from Triumph.

Nonetheless, since the test mule is already looking like a production-ready unit, it is safe to assume that it could be ready for launch later this year as a 2023 model.
