Marc Marquez wants Safety Commission to ban the controversial ‘ride-height/holeshot device’ amid fears it could push GP bikes to unsafe levels.

The six-time MotoGP champion believed that the device is not just an added complication but could also affect riders’ safety at tracks that don’t offer long run-offs.

“For me it’s something that for the future they must remove. I already said last year when I arrived after my injury.

“I think all the riders need to go together (safety commission).

“Manufacturers will always go more, more and more, but now with more stroke on the rear, more speed, more stroke on the front, it’s difficult to engage on the start procedure.

“For the show we don’t gain anything. Okay it’s a prototype, but for street bikes, you don’t need the holeshot.

“The aerodynamics I agree with because it’s nice and new things, but the holeshot system; always the run-off areas are trying to be increased, you are arriving faster on the break points and braking later, so for the future there is no sense,” said the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, 2020 MotoGP world champion Joan Mir thinks the technology is just too much for the sport.

“For me, it’s starting to be too much.

“Every time we arrive faster into the straight; we will reach 370kmph soon. The layouts are the same and for sure it’s more performance.

“Also, on the acceleration side it’s more difficult to make a difference. If you use everything then it’s more performance but it’s not the best thing for safety,” said the Suzuki rider.

However, last season’s runner-up, Francesco Bagnaia, revealed that he has no problem using a device that Ducati pioneered in the first place.

The ride-height device allows riders to push the suspension down to improve stability, and while it was used at the start of a race, Ducati expanded it to be used in motion. This allows riders to exit corners at higher speeds and slingshot onto a straight.

Meskipun Marquez beri bayangan belum bersedia menghadapi GP Qatar, pertahan juara, Fabio Quartararo berpendapat sebaliknya.

“Sejujurnya saya rasa seperti menunggang jentera jenama lain kerana perasaannya cukup berbeza.

“Sejak sertai Honda, pasukan sentiasa membuat kemas kini tetapi watak jentera kekal sama namun sekarang sangat berbeza,” tambahnya.

Honda is scheduled to unveil its 2022 RC213V race bike on January 14, 2022.

However, the global unveiling will take place without six-time MotoGP world champion, Marc Marquez who is still nursing his injured eye.

Instead, Repsol Honda has confirmed that the event will continue with Pol Espargaro and LCR Honda riders, Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Marquez.

Missing out on the bike unveiling is not an issue for the Honda camp, however, Marquez’s latest diplopia (double vision) diagnosis is still a concern as there is no confirmation if he could make it on time ahead of the Sepang test in February.

The Spaniard suffered the injury at the 2021 Algarve GP, but HRC only reported it as a concussion before the team confirmed the rider is struggling with diplopia.

Nevertheless, we hope Marquez could still make it back just in time for the pre-season test in Sepang or at least given enough time to test out the updated RC213V.

Marc Marquez has been in and out of surgery prior to his comeback at the 2021 MotoGP.

However, despite a strong return to the race last season, he then suffered a training crash and struggled with diplopia (double vision) prior to the penultimate round of the 2021 schedule.

This means Marquez, will need to fight his way back into the game again ahead of the 2022 season.

Just last week, Honda revealed that the Spaniard is adequately progressing on his road to recovery.

However, in the latest update by the rider himself, Marquez can be seen wearing a Red-Bull branded workout gear hence signalling he’s currently
working out to regain some stamina.

While Marquez’s intensify his training, GP One’s Carlo Pernat revealed that the 28-year-old rider will not make it in time for the official pre-season test in Sepang Circuit.

The uncertainty about his health also led Honda to start looking at the prospect of signing Suzuki’s Joan Mir for 2023. While Marquez’s spot with the Japanese marquee is safe through 2024, the move could displace Pol Espargaro.

Nevertheless, looking back at how strong Marquez was despite he was just 70 per cent back to his best last season, the six-time MotoGP world champion will go all out to be ready for the upcoming 2022 season.

Repsol Honda Team finally issued an update on the current condition of Marc Marquez.

The six-time MotoGP world champion suffers from diplopia (double vision) during a training crash at the end of October.

According to Repsol Honda Team, the Spaniard is currently undergoing a conservative treatment plan whilst doing physical training to prepare himself for the upcoming MotoGP season.

“The Repsol Honda Team rider, who last October was diagnosed with an episode of diplopia after suffering a fall while training for the Portuguese GP, has continued periodic visits to his trusted ophthalmologist to assess the evolution of his vision over the past two months.

“During these reviews, the progress made has been deemed favourable and as a result, Marquez will continue with a conservative treatment plan for the next few weeks.

“Marc Marquez will continue to undergo periodic reviews with Dr Sánchez Dalmau during the coming weeks alongside the conservative treatment plan.

“The situation does not prevent the rider from Cervera from continuing his physical training plan to prepare himself physically for a new season.”

However, the overall statement does not provide a clear insight into the rider’s condition.

Meanwhile, the “conservative treatment plan” is presumably an effort to avoid the need for surgery which could further lengthen Marquez road to recovery.

Nonetheless, it’s good to know that Marquez has resumed his physical training despite it might take a while before he is allowed to train on a bike.

We expect Repsol Honda Team will release another press statement sometime in January ahead of the official test in Sepang.

20 Spanish kids will get the chance to attend the Marc Marquez Junior Motor Camp this year.

The 6th Allianz Junior Motor Camp will allow kids aged 10 to 13-years-old to have the chance of learning from the 6-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez himself.

In the past, the slot was open to kids worldwide, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 20 kids from Spain will be invited.

Marc will be joined by his brother Alex including motocross riders Jose Lusiz Martinez and former Spanish champion Jose Luis Carrion.

Interestingly, the camp is free, and participants are only required to fill out a quick form and submit a YouTube video showcasing their talents on a dirtbike.

Marc Marquez reclaims his seat as the King of COTA with a seventh premier class win in Austin and his second of the season.

Marquez was back to his brilliant best, leading the race as early as Turn 1 despite starting from third place.

Meanwhile, championship leader Fabio Quartararo took second place, which means he will have the chance to take the world championship title in Misano as his closest rival, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia could only finish third.

Nonetheless, it was a sensational performance by Marquez, who took his second win of the season and reclaiming his title as the true ‘King of COTA’ with seven wins, seven podiums and seven poles in eight appearances at the Texan track.

The 28-year-old also delivered Repsol Honda 450th podium in the premier class.

MotoGP returns to COTA for the first time since 2019 as the track undergoing serious resurfacing work on around 40% of the track consisting of Turn 1-2, 9-10 and 16-19 in an effort to alleviate bumps.

MotoGP will return later this month for the second time in Misano.

Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia secured his maiden MotoGP career win after a sensational display at the Motorland Aragon.

Despite leading the race since the start, the Ducati rider faced a late charge from Honda’s Marc Marquez as the two exchange lead 14 times.

However, Bagnaia managed to withstand Marquez pressure, especially during the last 2-laps to secure his first MotoGP win.

“I have a lot of emotions today. I’m so happy! We worked a lot to achieve this result.

“Every time that we were close (to winning before), something happened. This dream to get my first victory was always far.

“To win today is a great liberation. I’m so happy. It’s difficult to say something now, but to finish first is a dream come true,” said the 24-year-old Italian.

Despite trying his best to challenge Bagnaia, Marquez was satisfied with his only second podium appearance of the season after Sachsenring win.

“I gave all that I had, and he did an incredible race, so congrats to Pecco. It’s extra motivation for us in a difficult year.

“But, this kind of results even like this, even riding with some difficulties, we are able to fight with the top guys,” he said.

Suzuki’s Joan Mir secured his fifth podium of the season at third place after battling it out against Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia).

Meanwhile, current championship leader Fabio Quartararo could only secure an 8th place finish despite starting in the front row.

The result saw Quartararo world championship lead cuts to just 53pts ahead of the emerging Bagnaia.

Pol Espargaro revealed that he needs to start copying his Repsol Honda teammate, Marc Marquez, as soon as possible.

Marquez was back to winning ways after securing another MotoGP win at the Sachsenring.

The Spaniard produced a sensational ride throughout the 30 lap race to claimed his first win after 581 days.

The victory was an eye-opening moment for Espargaro, who lost 14 seconds behind Marquez.

“From now on, I think I’m going to just try to copy Marc’s setting, Marc’s chassis because he’s using different than us.

“I’m going to copy his line (direction). Until that moment, we were not very far away from rhythm, from lap times, but this race, it’s a step.

“For sure, I’m very happy for the team and for all the guys that have been working so much, even for Marc. But the point is that for sure Marc shows the performance today of the bike, and I need to be on the level.

“So the only way I see is to copy his setting, his bike, his chassis as soon as possible,” said the 30-year old rider.

According to Espargaro, all four Honda riders, including Alex Marquez and Takaaki Nakagami, do not share the same package.

Six-time MotoGP world champions Marc Marquez returns to winning ways at the German GP 581 days after securing his last win.

The Spaniard was out for nine months since breaking his right humerus at Jerez last year before making his return to MotoGP in Portimao.

During the post-race conference at the Sachsenring, Marquez revealed a 30-minute phone call with five-time MotoGP champion Mick Doohan had helped him.

“When I was injured, always I feel like I will come back and I will come back strong. But since the first time I ride the MotoGP bike in Portimao, I say ‘okay, I am far, very far from my level.

“From that point it was very hard. The next races was even harder. It’s difficult but I just forget everything and focus on my personal and professional side. When I say forget everything; I mean extra comments, comments from outside.

“I just listen to the people that want to help me, and I try to find something or some comments that helped me – which was a phone call from Mick Doohan. I met (with) him in Mugello and I know that he had a similar situation in 92 and 93.

“I was 30 minutes in a phone call with him and I was just listening, he was speaking everything. He was explaining his situation, but was also like he was explaining my situation.

“It was the exact same problems like understanding the bike, not riding like you want to, stupid mistakes, stupid crashes, some races you will be fast, practice you will be slower and you don’t know why, and all the problems that I have this year – he explain and had in the past,” said Marquez.
