Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) issued a statement regarding the Yamaha YZF-R25. The Malaysian Yamaha distributor calls it a “Parts Replacement Programme.”
When Yamaha initiated a recall campaign for the Yamaha YZF-R3 in America, we did not publish the news as the R3 is not available here. We were uncertain if the YZF-R25 used the same parts as the R3.
Well, it does look like it is so now. HLYM will send the notice to the affected customers from mid-January 2019 onwards.
There are two parts to be replaced. The first is the radiator hose. Yamaha found that the supplier has improperly vulcanized (process of hardening rubber) the hose and it may leak cooling fluid.
Units affected by this are YZF-R25 frame numbers beginning with PMYRG1510E, PMYRG1510F, PMYRG1510G. Also, units 0000000 to 0012240 for frame number beginning with PMYRG1510H.
The second part covered in the programme is the gearshift shaft torsion spring. Yamaha found that the supplier shot-peened it improperly. Shot-peening is a process to strengthen metal parts. The spring could potentially break causing the shifter to become loose, consequently affecting gear shifting.
Affected units are all units with frame numbers beginning PMYRG1510E, PMYRG1510F, and PMYRG1510G from 0000000 to 0006758.

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) has introduced an updated MT-07. The latest edition is themed as MT-07 Dark Attraction and is available from October 2018.
The MT-07’s distinctive styling and shape have been retained, including the muscular faux air scoops that are reminiscent of the V-Max power cruiser. The overall MT design theme still stands up to the test of time since its introduction.
However, as with its bigger MT-09 brother, the MT-07 has been improved, mostly in the rolling stock department.
The compact 689cc, parallel-Twin engine’s “crossplane” crank is offset by 270o to mimic the firing order of a 90o V-Twin for punchy torque yet linear in response.
The new MT-07 will be offered in two colours. Race Blue is available immediately from October 2018 onwards, while Matt Grey will be introduced in January 2019.
Buyers will receive an exclusive stainless steel Yamaha disc brake lock when they purchase an MT-07.
The recommended selling price is from RM 38,288 (inclusive of SST, but excluding insurance and registration fees).

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd. (HLYM) has launched a new safety program in a bid to increase safety awareness among motorcyclists. Core to the program is a new safety awareness booklet called, “Buku Panduan Kesedaran Persediaan Penunggangan (KPP),” translatable to “Riding Safety Awareness Booklet.”
HLYM Managing Director, Dato’ Jim Khor said during the launch that the booklets will be included with every new Yamaha motorcycle purchased through authorized dealers, throughout the country. Through the cooperation with the Malaysian Motorcycle and Scooter Dealer Association (MMSDA), he also iterated that it is the responsibility of each dealer to brief new motorcycle buyers on the points contained within the booklet. HLYM expects to distribute 20,000 copies to dealers per month to also cater for riders who have purchased motorcycles previously.
The booklet contains brief but important aspects on riding gear, pre-ride checks, simple motorcycle self-diagnosis, riding tips and a few fines and summonses applicable to those who flout the law.
“The emphasis on our customers’ safety will always be our company’s utmost priority and HLYM will continue to advocate the importance of road safety through many more programmes in the future. Based on our insights, we realized that some of the new motorcycle owners are not quite well aware on the basic safety requirements when they are on the road. We hope that with the KPP Programme, we will be able to educate them with the right information so that they can be good examples to other road users,” added Dato’ Jim Khor.
The launch of the program was launched by Datuk Mohamad Dahlan Md Maamor, the Political Secretary on behalf of the Transport Minister, YB Anthony Loke. The launching was also witnessed by the aforementioned Dato’ Jim Khor and Mr. Wee Hong, the Chairman of the MMSDA.
As the Malaysian MotoGP 2018 round draws near, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has launched the Yamaha NVX Grand Prix Special Edition.
This special edition also commemorates HLYM’s participation in MotoGP every year.
It is only fitting that HLYM does so as the Yamaha NVX was launched three years back at the Malaysian MotoGP round, with Valentino Rossi as the distinguished guest. He legendary rider also took part in unveiling and signing the NVX, also called the Aerox, during the event.
This special edition NVX is finished in Yamaha’s signature racing blue, as inspired by the YZF-M1 factory race bikes campaigned by Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinalez in the premier motorcycle racing championship.
Owners who purchase the Grand Prix edition will receive an exclusive riding jacket branded with NVX GP Edition patches and a Certificate of Ownership. This means the motorcycle is certified as the genuine GP Edition.
The Yamaha NVX GP Edition will be available at authorized Yamaha dealers commencing 21st September 2018. HLYM has set the price at RM 10, 606.00 (basic selling price with 0% SST and not on-the-road), which is a RM 700 premium over the standard model.
