Gresini

Chinese motorcycle maker, QJMotor has ramp up its motorsport intiatives in 2023 by becoming the main sponsor for the Gresini Racing Team in Moto2.

  • Gresini Racing Team announced QJMotor as the new main sponsor for the 2023 season.
  • Filip Salac and Jeremy Alcoba to spearhead QJMotor-Gresini Racing Team’s effort.

As a result, the racing team which was founded by the late Fausto Gresini is being renamed as QJMotor Gresini Racing Team for the 2023 season. QJMotor Gresini Racing Team Moto2 will take on the upcoming season with two 21-year-olds, Filip Salac and Jeremy Alcoba.

“I’m happy to start my second year in Moto2 with a crew I already know. We did a good job in the last races of 2022 and I hope we will start right from where we finished,” said Salac in an official statement.

The Czech rider is also adamant of delivering a better result in 2023, hoping to finish in Top 10.

“My target is to gain as much experience as possible and try to finish all the races in top10 and points. For me, as a rider, it will be a very important season as I’m not a rookie anymore and it’s time for me to show my real potential,” he added.

Aside from the premier class, the  level of competitiveness in Moto2 should improve greatly particularly due to Triumph has tuned the inline-three 765cc to produce 140hp.

Alex Marquez has officially made the switch to Ducati for the 2023 season.

  • The two-time World Champion will partner Fabio Di Giannantonio at the Gresini Racing team, replacing Enea Bastianini.
  • The announcement came ahead of Sunday’s action at the Motul TT Assen.

Marquez will replace Bastianini with the Italian set to be moving to either factory Ducati or Pramac Racing Ducati in 2023.

As the 2014 Moto3 and 2019 Moto2 winner, including 40 podiums and 12 race wins, the 26-year-old will venture into his fourth season in the premier class for the first time onboard a Ducati machinery.

“I’m happy to announce that I’ll be joining Team Gresini MotoGP, and I’m also very excited to be starting this new adventure: it was crucial for me to change to recover the same type of motivation I had when I first joined this class.

“This was the best option for me, with a team that helped write the history of this championship. I want to thank Nadia, Carlo and all the GR staff for believing in me. I still have half a season left to do my best before starting 2023 with top motivation,” said Marquez.

Meanwhile, Di Giannantonio is already having a bright start to his career in his rookie season, after claiming his first pole position and eighth place as the best result so far.

“I’m really happy to extend my partnership with this team, which is like a family to me. It’s great because we’ll continue on this learning curve, and we’ll be doing so with a Ducati – and that makes me very happy.

“Continuity is key in MotoGP in order to be able to work on myself to be the best possible. We have been working on this contract extension for a little while, and now we can finally announce it.

“Obviously the goals will be higher: we’ll be using this second part of the season to improve our results and then next year I really want to make that step up,” said the Italian.

Terbaru, Pengarah Sukan Ducati, Paolo Ciabatti mengesahkan pihaknya enggan kehilangan dua bakat muda, Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing) dan Jorge Martin (Pramac).

It was a night to remember for Enea Bastianini, who took his first MotoGP win after a fantastic display at the Lusail Circuit on Sunday.

Despite starting in the front row, the Gresini Racing rider fell behind at the start of the race to 5th place before climbing the grid by overtaking 2020 world champion Joan Mir.

Bastianini – riding on board a one-year-old Ducati GP21 – proceeds to sweep past six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez and later KTM’s Brad Binder before taking over the lead from Honda’s Pol Espargaro with just five laps to go.

“Yesterday, for the first time I did a really good lap time in the qualifying. Today I started from the first row.

“The best choice for me was the medium on the rear because this morning I tried it in the warm-up and saw a good potential.

“Also, with the soft it pumps a lot in the slow corner but the medium was more stable.

“I thought ‘okay I need to put the medium.

“It wasn’t easy in the first part of the race because Pol [Espargaro] pushed a lot, but the last seven laps it was the best choice. So with that it was possible to close the gap and to win,” said Bastianini.

Although Espargaro led most of the race, his rear tyre began to give way and had to settle for 3rd, with Binder taking 2nd spot at the podium.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Marquez (P5), Mir (P6), Alex Rins (P7), Johann Zarco (P8), Fabio Quartararo (P9) and Takaaki Nakagami (P10).

Meanwhile, it was a disastrous night for last season’s runner-up Francesco Bagnaia as the Italian failed to finish the race.

Bagnaia was making a move into turn one before he lost the front, which led to him wiping out fellow Ducati Jorge Martin.

Jack Miller was also forced to an early retirement after suffering a mechanical failure, thus resulting in Bastianini, Zarco and Luca Marini (VR46) being the only Ducati rider to deliver points in Qatar.

MotoGP to return in two-weeks time at Mandalika International Street Circuit on March 20.

Gresini Racing has announced YOUALL as one of the team latest sponsors for its new 2022 Ducati MotoGP project.

The Chinese carburettor and a fuel injection manufacturer is no stranger to Gresini as they have been working together in Moto3.

“We have been enjoying a partnership with YOUALL in our Moto3 venture for four years already, and when the move to the premier-class became available, they were amongst the first ones to pick it up,” said Carlo Merlini, Commercial and Marketing Director of Gresini Racing.

Meanwhile, Edison Li, Fujian CEO Youli Carburettor Co. Lts shared his excitement over the collaboration.

“The collaboration between YOUALL and Gresini Racing enters its fifth year and, for the 2022 season, we wanted to take a further step forward with the leap into the premier class.

“I am very excited for this new project and we are very confident both in our drivers and with the team! As part of the Gresini Family we are ready for this new challenge,” he added.

Gresini Racing also previously announced Flex-Box as the title sponsor for the 2022 season.

Flex-Box Gresini MotoGP team marks the start of something fresh after spending the last seven seasons with Aprilia.

The team set to compete in next season MotoGP campaign with Enea Bastianini and Fabio di Giannantonio onboard the GP21 Desmosedici.
