Husqvarna Motorcycles has officially unveiled its latest model, the 2023 Norden 901 Expedition, which is an upgraded version of the standard Norden 901 adventure bike.

  • The news of the imminent arrival of the Expedition first broke out in January 2023.
  • The Expedition is the more off-road capable version of the base Norden 901.

The Norden 901 Expedition has been equipped with new hardware to make it a more travel-ready adventure motorcycle. The most significant upgrade is the new suspension system, featuring WP XPLOR forks and XPLOR PDS rear shock absorber with 240mm of travel, which is 20mm more than the stock bike.

Husqvarna hit the sweet spot by introducing a fully adjustable suspension, allowing riders to control preload, compression, and rebound damping.

The bike’s cockpit has also been upgraded for long-distance comfort, with a larger front screen fitted as standard and adjustable heated grips and rider seat.

Additionally, the Norden 901 Expedition comes with pre-fitted soft luggage that offers 36-litres of carrying capacity in two sub-frame-mounted panniers.

Other notable additions include a center stand as standard, a heavy-duty engine guard, and a Bluetooth connectivity module, which enables on-bike calls and communication, as well as turn-by-turn navigation.

Interested buyers can order the 2023 Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition now through the official website. The motorcycle is set to arrive in Europe’s in mid-March.

The upgraded features make this bike an ideal choice for adventure enthusiasts looking for a reliable and comfortable ride, whether it’s for a long-distance tour or a weekend getaway.

The news regarding the arrival of a more extreme version of Husqvarna’s Norden 901 first broke out in July 2022.

  • An extreme version of Husqvarna’s Norden 901 to land in 2023.
  • The “Expedition” could borrow much of its features from KTM’s 890 Adventure R.

At the time, dealers were given a private showing of a prototype version of the motorcycle.

However, the latest European type-approval documents have confirmed that the motorcycle is set for the 2023 unveiling.

Despite the bike’s first image already making its way to social media, Husqvarna is yet to make any official announcement.

Since the base Norden 901 is based on KTM’s 890 Adventure, we expect the “Expedition” version to use the 890 Adventure R as its basis. That said, it could feature a WP Xplor 48mm inverted front fork with 240mm of travel and a WP Xplor rear shock.

Also, the document confirms that no change is done to the engine meaning the Expedition gets the same 889cc LC8c parallel-twin engine that makes 103hp @ 8,000rpm.

However, the wheelbase is longer due to the longer front fork, while the bike’s overall weight also increases from 220kg to 229kg.

Based on the videos shared on Facebook, the Expedition stands apart from the standard Norden 901 thanks to new paint and graphics, soft luggage and alloy shields.

  • The Trans-Mongolia 2019 adventure will cover 20,000 kilometres over 65 days through 11 countries.

  • It will push off on 21 August and end on 24 October in Paris, France.

  • There is a total of 12 bikes, supported by 4x4s.

How’s this for an epic motorcycle adventure? The Trans-Mongolia 2019 adventure will cover 20,000 kilometres over 65 days through 11 countries.

The adventure is organized by the group called 4×4 World Explorer which consists of hardcore adventure riders and 4×4 drivers. They’ve organized the Trans-Andes, Trans-Amazon, among others in the past.

The upcoming ride which will begin on 21st August 2019 will ride through Thailand, Laos, and China before reaching Mongolia, hence the name. However, instead of turning back once they reach the country, the group will continue onwards through southern Russia (circumventing the Central Asian countries), Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and finally ending in Paris, France on 24th October.

The bikes and 4x4s will then be shipped back to Malaysia.

Expedition Leader, Mr. Thomas Foo presented some of the details during the launch at the Explorer Outfitter outlet in Publika, Kuala Lumpur.

“It is like seeing seven different worlds in one ride,” he said. The riders will be supported by a number of 4x4s.

The 12 motorcycles are the BMW G 310 GS, sponsored by Tian Siang Motorrad in Ipoh, Perak. While they don’t seem much to some out there, the small capacity, single-cylinder bike is reliable and tough enough to stand up to the challenges during the trip. But in case anything breaks, it’s an easy fix compared to more complex models. Besides that, the lack of weight will soon be the rider’s best friend when the going gets tough. Would you prefer to ride on through or wrestle with a heavy bike? That’s why almost all world travelers including Anita Yusof opt for simple, lightweight bikes.

GIVI Asia Sdn. Bhd. also played their part by sponsoring touring equipment to the riders. It’s a huge list but here are some of them: X.01 Tourer adventure helmet, B32 Bold Advance top box, PWB02 waterproof waist pouch, CRS02.AX Comfort rain suit, VEST02 high-visibility vest, and a new, taller windscreen. GIVI Asia Managing Director Mr. Oh Hai Swee and Marketing Manager Sam Sharman were present during the presentation.

The Trans-Mongolia adventure will be flagged off on 21st August in Putrajaya.
