Aprilia Malaysia unveiled the RS 660 Extrema alongside the launch of the SR-GT 200 Replica, showcasing the sportiest variant within the current RS 660 model range. The name pays homage to the Aprilia 125 Extrema, a high-performance eighth-litre bike produced between 1992 and 1994.

Boasting a remarkable dry weight of 166 kg, the RS 660 Extrema sets a new standard for the power-to-weight ratio, achieving 100 HP—a record in its class. This accomplishment is attributed to a range of refined standard equipment. Notably, a new and lighter street-legal exhaust system by SC Project, featuring a carbon silencer positioned on the right side (now situated above the engine), plays a pivotal role. The black anodized aluminum silencer bracket allows the removal of passenger footpegs, contributing to further weight reduction. Additionally, the front mudguard and the redesigned belly pan, both crafted from high-quality carbon, add to the overall weight-saving measures.

The RS 660 Extrema’s sporty character is accentuated by the single-seat tail fairing, replacing the passenger seat and enhancing the sleek rear design. However, the passenger seat is included with the bike, maintaining its two-up riding approval. In addition to the standard electronics found in the RS 660—such as traction control, cornering ABS, engine brake, engine map, and adjustable wheelie control—the RS 660 Extrema features software enabling the configuration of a quick shift in an upside-down arrangement. This allows for autonomous gearbox setup without replacing any bike components, making it versatile for both street and race versions, ideal for track days.

The distinctive white and red livery, inspired by sports aesthetics, ensures immediate recognition of the RS 660 Extrema. The introductory selling price for this high-performance model is set at RM 79,900.

While the rest of the motorcycle industry prepares a strong new lineup at EICMA, it wasn’t the case with Aprilia who brought just one new model to Milan.

For 2023, Aprilia introduces the RS660 Extrema a lighter and better power-to-weight ratio than the base model. The name is taken from the firm’s 125 Extrema that was manufactured from 1992 to 1994. 

The RS660 Extrema tips the scale at just 166 kilograms thanks to the number of carbon fiber component added including the belly pan and front fender. Given the 100hp it produces, the RS660 Extrema has an attractive power-to-weight ratio. 

In addition, the RS660 Extrema is also fitted with a street-legal SC-Project exhaust system that helps to bring the bike’s weight further down. 

In addition to the electronic package available on the RS660 including traction control, cornering ABS, engine brake, engine map and wheelie control the Extrema gets a new quickshifter software allowing riders to switch to GP-style upside-down shifting easily.

Aprilia set to issue a worldwide recall for the RS660 and Tuono 660 after identifying a batch of poorly installed connecting rods.

The connecting rods were not manufactured according to the Noale factory specifications, which could result in an engine failure.

A case was submitted to the United States traffic safety authority National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) whereby a connecting rod on an Aprilia RS660 got torn off after clocking 2,300 kilometres.

As a precaution, the Italian motorcycle company has decided to replace the entire engine, including renewing the factory warranty.

It is estimated that around 700 units (including RS660 and Tuono 660) worldwide are affected by the recall.

Menurut laporan, Aprilia sedang mensasarkan beberapa model RS660 dan Tuono 660 berdasarkan nombor chasis tertentu.

Sebelum ini, Aprilia telah pun berdepan isu dengan tetapan ‘valve train’ di samping beberapa pemilik mendakwa terdapat masalah dengan bahagian ‘connecting rod’.

Meskipun tidak dinyatakan secara terperinci namun kedua-dua isu ini dijangka punca Aprilia terpaksa membuat panggilan semula bagi menukar enjin kepada yang baru.

Pada masa sama, tidak dapat dipastikan sama ada masalah ini akan turut menjejaskan model RS660 dan Tuono 660 yang dipasarkan di luar Amerika Syarikat termasuk di Malaysia.

Tahun 2021 sememangnya waktu yang sibuk buat Aprilia apabila giat mempromosikan beberapa model baharu antaranya RS660 dan Tuono 660.

Pengeluar motosikal Itali itu juga dilaporkan sedang giat menguji model baharu, Tuareg 660 yang telah pun didedahkan sekitar September tahun lalu.

Dalam perkembangant terbaru, Pengurus Pemasaran Aprilia, Cristian Romeo Barelli mendedahkan maklumat lebih terperinci mengenai motosikal ADV itu.

Menurut Barelli, Tuareg 660 akan mengikut DNA generasi sebelumnya sebagai jentera berkeupayaan off-road dengan tayar berukuran 21″ depan dan 18″ belakang.

Tambah Barelli lagi, disebabkan pembangunan enjin 660cc memfokuskan prestasi yang lebih ‘sporty’, Tuareg 660 juga akan mengekalkan elemen sama seperti ditawarkan RS660 dan Tuono 660.

Aprilia Tuareg 660 ini dijangka akan memberi saingan terhadap Yamaha Tenere 700 dan beberapa model lain dalam segmennya.

“Tuareg 660 akan ditawarkan sebagai model 2022, dan akan didapati seawal hujung 2021,” dedah Barelli.

Aprilia introduced the RS660 Trofeo as a track-legal machine to compete in the MotoAmerica Twins Cup and the one-make Aprilia Racing RS660 Trophy series in January.

However, the Noale-based company has now made the RS660 Trofeo available to the public as well for a price of USD17,892 (RM74,000) with orders can be made online via  FACTORYWORKS.APRILIA.COM.

Nonetheless, the RS660 Trofeo remains a track-only motorcycle as all the homologation parts have been removed.

The motorcycle now weighs at just 153 kilograms (dry) compared to the 169 kg found on the road-legal model.

The Trofeo edition also makes 5hp more than the standard RS660 (100hp).

Other than that, the Trofeo also comes with a lot of goodies such as:

The RS660 is Aprilia new take on the mid-segment sports bike with the promise of offering an excellent riding experience for daily riding on the road and track.

The Aprilia RS660 is powered by a 659cc parallel-twin engine that produces 100hp @ 10,500rpm and 67Nm @ 8,500rpm.

For the Malaysian market, the RS660 is offered in two colour options, Apex Black and Lava Red.

Enjin ini menawarkan 100hp pada 10,500rpm dan 67Nm pada 8,500rpm dengan 80 peratus tork boleh dirasi seawal 4,000rpm dan mencapai 90 peratus ketika rpm mencapai paras 6,250.

Reka Bentuk

Bahagian depan dicorakkan dengan gabungan ‘triple’ LED penuh dan Daytime Running Light (DRL) bagi memastikan pencahayaan yang efisien.

Rekaan fairing dan keseluruhan jentera turut mencerminkan elemen sama yang terdapat pada RSV4 1100 Factory dan Tuono 1100 2021 sekaligus menghadirkan rupa yang agresif dan penuh gaya.

Menariknya, penggunaan kerangka dan ‘swingarm’ jenis aluminium turut menyumbang kepada berat yang rendah namun lebih tegar dan tahan lasak untuk kegunaan harian dan di litar pada hujung minggu.

The highly-anticipated 2021 Aprilia RS 660 is heading to Malaysia soon after making wave worldwide since its launch last year.

We understand that the all-new motorcycle will arrive sometime between March and April this year after doing some digging. However, what catches our attention is that at a promotional price of RM6X, XXX is expected to be introduced.

The motorcycle was due to launch last year. However, due to the ongoing pandemic Covid-19, it had to be postponed to 2021.

Focused on delivering a more exciting riding pleasure into the rider’s everyday life, the RS 660 comes fitted with 659cc twin-cylinder engine (parallel-twin) that produces a very respectable 100hp at 10,500rpm and 67Nm at 8,500rpm. This is further amplified thanks to its dry weight of only 169kg.

Controlling all this power was tasked to its Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) electronics suite, which consists of an advanced inertial six-axis navigation system similar to the one found on the RSV4.

The APRC includes traction control, wheelie control, quickshifter, cruise control, engine braking and mapping, and adjustable ABS.

Meskipun tiada harga rasmi didedahkan namun dijangka pengedar rasmi Aprilia di Malaysia, Didi Resources, bakal menawarkan harga istimewa sempena pelancaran model itu nanti yang dijangka sekitar RM6X,XXX.

Harga tersebut adalah lebih rendah berbanding jangkaan awal kami yang sebelum ini di antara RM70 ribu hingga RM80 ribu.
