MotoGP: Quartararo continues winter test assault

Day 2 of the 2020 Sepang MotoGP Test aka “Winter Test” saw Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) storming to the top of the timesheets late in the day with a blistering pace of 1:58.572. The young Frenchman was 0.373 seconds faster today compared to his run in Day 1 after having completed a total of 72 laps in Day 2 of testing.

The times just got a lot more interesting as the top eight riders are all within the 1 minute 58 mark while and the top 15 riders are only separated within a second. Jack Miller (Pramac Racing) got a good pace earlier in the day with only 0.069 seconds separating him and Quartararo.

KTM proved to be a force to be reckoned with this season as predicted with Dani Pedrosa (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) set a super-fast time of 1:58.662. That’s only 0.09 seconds behind the star rider of Petronas Yamaha SRT. Not bad for a retired rider onboard the 2020 KTM RC16.

Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) sits comfortably in P4 of Day 2 with Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT) not that far behind in P5. Maverick Vinales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) continues his rhythm in P6 again in Day 2 followed by the lead rider of Suzuki, Alex Rins.

Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was amongst the first riders in Day 2 to breach the 1 minute 58 seconds barrier super early in the day. Although his times were a bit slower compared to Day 1, he still managed to be slightly faster than Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) who completed Day 2 in P9.

Despite Marquez’s injuries, the 2019 MotoGP World Champion managed to fend off Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) who sits in P10; the same position as Day 1. If Day 2 is any indication of what the 2020 season will look like, you can bet that it will be very, very interesting. Stay tuned for more updates.
