Video: 2016 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 in detail

After making its highly anticipated debut during EICMA 2015 last month, the new sixth generation Suzuki GSX-R 1000 superbike looks set to become a force to be reckon with.

The new bike, which carries the new ‘L7’ chassis code, sees the Hamamatsu-based Suzuki brand taking a few notes from rivals Yamaha and Kawasaki as well.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the new GSX-R 1000 L7 sees Suzuki tying the superbike up more closely with its MotoGP efforts, as proven by the similar livery scheme that both the new bike and the GSX-RR MotoGP bike don. Fuelling that further is the appearance of both its GP riders Aleix Espargaró and Maverick Viñales putting the new litre-class superbike through its paces in the video posted above.


Backing that up is the fact that the new sixth-gen Gixxer Thousand sports plenty of new metal and electronics all-round. First comes the new chassis, to which Suzuki claims it to be the lightest Gixxer it has ever built, followed by the presence of a new and powerful 999cc in-line four-cylinder screamer primed with both the Suzuki Exhaust Tuning-Alpha (SET-A) and Suzuki Top Feed Injector (S-TFI) systems.


Other notable features include the Showa BFFF (Balance Free Front Forks) making their second production bike appearance after debuting in the new 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. Complementing that are the twin range-topping Brembo anchors primed up front, as well as a host of new electronic rider aids. Offered here are three selectable riding modes, followed by other features such as a quick-shifter, auto-blipper, 10-level traction control, as well as launch control and ABS.


The new 2016 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 is expected to hit markets sometime next year. Given its array of new and improved features as shown in the video, we can expect this new Gixxer Thousand to stack up well against its core segment rivals such as the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 and the new 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
