TT legend John McGuinness is now a ‘Datuk’!

After 30 years of racing, TT legend John McGuinness has finally been recognised with an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his massive success in the world of road racing. So, not exactly a ‘Datuk’, but around the same level in the UK (we guess).

The ‘Morecombe Missile’ was named in the 2021 New Year’s Honours list thanks to his great success in events like the legendary Isle of Man TT. With the second-most wins to date (23 wins), John McGuinness definitely deserves this MBE considering what he had to go through after his major injury a few years back.

According to McGuinness himself in a Twitter post, “Well I’m speechless for once! Unbelievable response from all you guys, amazing! Been reading all the messages it means so much, wish I could reply to you all. Huge thanks to everybody that has made it happen. 30 years of racing, now the icing on the cake an MBE.”

He’s only three wins away to tie up his record with Joey Dunlop (26 TT wins), but he’ll only be able to attempt that in 2022. As some of you may have already heard, the 2021 Isle of Man TT event has been cancelled due to rising concerns for COVID-19. And the new strain in the UK is not helping at all.
