  • The long-awaited Yamaha MT-15 was spotted in Malaysia recently.

  • A photo showed the bike being ridden on the North-South Expressway.

  • The bike may be launched in January 2020.

The long-awaited Yamaha MT-15 was spotted in Malaysia recently.

According to our friends at Pandu Laju, a reader sent in the photos of the bike being ridden on the North-South Expressway. From the picture, we could see that it bears a trade plate and wore no camouflage. It could well be tested for homologation purposes.

Although touted as the MT-25 in their website, our take is that the bike is the MT-15. The photo isn’t clear at all, but there is a piece of bodywork poking out in front of the rider’s right knee. As the MT-25 doesn’t have radiator shrouds (check out the main picture), it narrows down to the MT-15.

Anyway, If it’s indeed going through homologation, it means that we’ll probably see it being launched soon, but most probably in January during the annual Hong Leong Yamaha Dealers’ Convention, usually  held at Genting Highlands.

Also evident in the photo are some elements of the bike’s styling. Its rear end and exhaust silencer are carried over from the fully-faired YZF-R15. In fact, the MT-15 is the naked version based on the popular YZF-R15 platform, thereby running the same mechanicals.

We shall see if it’s actually the MT-15 or MT-25 later, but Malaysian motorcycle fans will have something awesome to look forward to next year!

Saya mengambil risiko besar meninggalkan KTM,” tambahnya.

  • Valentino Rossi revealed that Johann Zarco rejected a test rider role for Yamaha.

  • Yamaha had been trying to bring him in.

  • Rumours now say the Frenchman might be eyeing a role for Honda, instead.

Although Johann Zarco was highly expected to land a test role with the Yamaha factory, Valentino Rossi said revealed that the Frenchman has decided otherwise. There are rumours that Zarco may be eyeing a position in Honda instead.

The situation seemed to have changed since Zarco’s been called to replace LCR Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami for the last three races of the season.

“It’s a shame,” Rossi told the media in Motegi, Japan. “It’s no secret that Yamaha was looking at Zarco for ten rider and he would have been important for us.”

“Now he’s close to Honda and we need to see what he decides to do for 2020, but it looks to me like we will have to find another fast test rider. It will be difficult to find someone like Johann.”

Indeed, Zarco has great experience in the Yamaha YZR-M1. He achieved six podium finishes and three pole positions in 2017 and 2018, while his ex-team Tech 3 Racing were tied to Yamaha. When Tech 3 moved to KTM, Zarco was promoted to the factory KTM team while his ex-teammate Hafizh Syahrin stayed behind in the Tech 3 KTM team.

But now rumours are starting that the French rider could be eyeing a position in Honda.

It is all due to Jorge Lorenzo’s lacklustre form in the Repsol Honda factory team. Honda had great hopes on the five-time world champion but the best he could achieve was 11th this year. There are also rumours that the manufacturer is not happy with the rider.

Lorenzo has said that he is not concerned about Zarco riding for LCR Honda beginning the Australian round, stressing that it is the satellite and not the factory team. Lorenzo’s contract runs through 2020.

It is without doubt that Zarco’s ride for LCR Honda will be considered an audition. Honda could extend a test role for Zarco next year, replacing Stefan Bradl. Bradl is reportedly working on the new CBR1000RR Fireblade which will contending for the WorldSBK title in 2020.

  • There are four new colours for the 2019 Yamaha Ego Avantiz.

  • The model has been sold since 2016.

  • It continues to be popular among Malaysia motorcyclists.

Mention the name “Yamaha” in the small motorcycle segment and the Ysuku (Y15ZR) is the first model that comes to mind. Truth is, other models sell just as well. That’s why Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has just rolled out new colours for the 2019 Yamaha Ego Altiz.

Launched in 2016, the Ego Avantiz is the most popular twist-and-go scooter in its segment despite the onslaught of competitors.

The Yamaha is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine which utilises Yamaha’s Blue Core set of solutions for optimum operational. The criteria include efficiency in cooling, low friction and lubrication. Consequently, the engine produces more power and torque while minimising fuel consumption and emissions.

Yamaha scooters always feature lots of storage space and the Ego Avantiz has a 14-litre underseat storage capacity.

Additionally, this model pioneered the use of LED headlamps and taillamp in its segment.

More importantly, the bike has a low seat height, making it accessible to anyone. But most important of all is its very affordable price.

So, it’s easy to see why the bike is still popular among Malaysian motorcyclists. As such, HLYM introduced four new colours for the 2019 Yamaha Ego Avantiz.

They are Blue, Cyan, Grey and Red. Pricing remains unchanged at RM 5,536 (basic sales price and not on-the-road). They will be available from this month onwards.

  • The 2020 Yamaha MT-03 has been launched for the US and UK markets.

  • It shares the same DNA as the MT-07 and MT-09.

  • Will it and the MT-15 reach Malaysia?

The 2020 Yamaha MT-03 has been launched for the US and UK markets.

As it shares the 321cc parallel-Twin engine as the Yamaha YZF-R3, it would known as the MT-25 in our market since it’ll adopt the YZF-R25’s 250cc engine.

Being a part of the MT-series the model shares the “Dark Side of Japan” DNA with its larger MT-07 and MT-09 siblings, such as the large faux air scoops. It features styling elements of the other two, plus an new and aggressive headlamp with striking LEDs.

A new 14-litre tank should see a range of up to a 300 kilometre range. There is also a new LCD screen.

But look a little closer and you can see a resemblance to YZF-R3 in terms of the tail section and frame.

Indeed, while the diamond-shape frame is from the R3, the suspension features a number of differences. The forks are now upside-down, while the new swingarm is longer and pivots closer to the centre of the bike. The rear monoshock has a stiffer springs in addition to revised preload and rebound damping rates.

The manufacturer sees the bike as a great offering to the younger segment of riders.

The big question if the MT-25 will ever be sold in Malaysia. The MT-15 and MT-25 are already sold in Thailand and Indonesia to big success.

  • The Yamaha YZF-R15 Monster Energy GP Edition is coming to Malaysia.

  • Its livery is exactly as the Yamaha MotoGP works bike’s.

  • The recommended basic selling price is from RM12,618.

The Yamaha YZF-R15 Monster Energy GP Edition is headed to Malaysia. The livery is derived directly from the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP works team.

Yamaha has always transferred their MotoGP liveries to their motorcycles in many markets including Malaysia. That started long ago with the 135 LC, then the Y15ZR, YZF-R25 and now the YZF-R15 (R15).

The Monster Energy GP edition was launched in the UK on the YZF-R125 months ago and it was high time for our turn.

What makes it special this time is the Monster Energy livery which was replicated by enthusiasts on their own. It was said that the Monster Energy sponsorship in MotoGP was brought along by Valentino Rossi. The energy drink sponsored him since the Movistar days.

The bike is mechanically identical to the standard R15. We found the standard bike good enough already anyway, so there’s no sense in disturbing its equilibrium.

However, to those who’ve not ridden the R15, the upside-down forks, chassis and 155cc VVT engine produce a lively and entertaining ride. You could even knee down in corners if ridden well.

The recommended basic selling price is from RM12,618 (not including road tax, insurance and number plates).
