Spanish aftermarket specialist Puig has introduced Brake Coolers inspired by racing technology, bringing a touch of track performance to street bikes.

  • These coolers, seen on MotoGP and WSBK race bikes and high-end sport motorcycles like the Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory, now offer enthusiasts enhanced braking performance and a sleek aesthetic.
  • the brake cooler can significantly lower brake operating temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius, especially advantageous during spirited rides or track use on hot days.

The Brake Cooler boasts a universal design, easily attaching to caliper bolts and fork pinch bolts. It promises to reduce brake temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius, particularly beneficial during spirited rides on hot days or track sessions. Additionally, the accessory enhances aerodynamics by minimizing air turbulence at the front wheel, ultimately boosting stability at high speeds.

While similar to carbon brake coolers seen on race-spec machines, Puig’s version employs cost-effective ABS plastic. To ensure road legality, Puig provides a parts certificate, aligning with strict European guidelines for aerodynamic modifications.

Pricing, color options, and specific compatible models for Puig’s Brake Cooler are yet to be announced. Enthusiasts eagerly await the chance to upgrade their bikes with this racing-inspired innovation, combining both style and function for a thrilling ride.

The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO) have recently announced updated rev limits for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship category.

  • The new rev limits will come into effect starting from this weekend’s event at the Prosecco DOC Catalunya Round.
  • Ducati rev limit decreased by 250rpm, Kawasaki gained extra 250rpm.

After analyzing the performance of the machines over the first three rounds of the 2023 season, it has been decided that the maximum rev limit for Ducati will be decreased by 250 rpm as per article 2.4.2.2-3 of the regulations. This move is aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all participants in the championship.

In contrast, Kawasaki has elected to use 5 concession points to benefit from a 250 rpm rev limit increase as per article 2.4.3.3 of the regulations. This decision comes after careful consideration of their performance in the first three rounds of the championship.

According to article 2.4.2.3 of the regulations, the rev limit may be updated at the end of every third event provided at least three events remain in the season. That said, there may be further updates to the rev limits in the coming weeks.

Toprak Razgatlioglu, the reigning Superbike World Champion, has been confirmed to be testing the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP bike at Jerez next week.

  • The second test will take place three weeks before the resumption of WorldSBK in Assen.
  • Jerez is a track where Razgatlioglu has traditionally been very strong.

The test will also be attended by official Yamaha MotoGP test rider, Cal Crutchlow, who will be assessing new parts from Yamaha to enhance the YZR-M1’s performance.

This will be Razgatlioglu’s second outing on the YZR-M1, after his test in mixed conditions at MotorLand Aragon last year. It is speculated that Yamaha is giving Razgatlioglu a chance to try the MotoGP bike in the fully-dry conditions that he missed out on in Aragon last year, or to prepare him for a MotoGP switch in 2024, likely in place of Franco Morbidelli.

Lin Jarvis, Managing Director Yamaha Motor Racing, stated that Razgatlioglu is an extraordinarily talented motorcycle racer, and he is curious to see his speed on the Factory MotoGP machine. Razgatlioglu will have the chance to ride alongside Cal, who will be there for the ongoing development testing of Yamaha’s 2023 YZR-M1.

Andrea Dosoli, Road Racing Manager Yamaha Motor Europe, expressed his gratitude to Yamaha for giving Razgatlioglu the opportunity to test the YZR-M1 once again. The Jerez track is a place where Razgatlioglu has traditionally been very strong, and it looks like they’re going to enjoy almost perfect testing conditions. Dosoli added that Razgatlioglu’s focus at the test will be on getting a feel for the characteristics of the YZR-M1 and the Michelin tyres.

Razgatlioglu himself said that he is looking forward to testing the YZR-M1 MotoGP bike at Jerez, a track he likes a lot. He thanked Yamaha for giving him this opportunity and stated that the test will give him the chance to understand better the demands of racing a Factory MotoGP bike.

Razgatlioglu’s Andalucian test on the Yamaha MotoGP motorcycle will take place three weeks before the resumption of the WorldSBK series in Assen at the end of April. Meanwhile, MotoGP’s next race is at the Circuit of the Americas on 14-16 April.

Scott Redding is not holding back for his latest statement towards BMW after claiming that the manufacturer focuses too much on selling motorcycles instead of winning in WorldSBK.

The British rider joined BMW at the beginning of the 2022 season, with the team looking adamant about closing the gap of their M 1000 RR with the front row.

Despite tremendous effort, the BMW M 1000 RR race bike still needs to catch up to the likes of the Yamaha R1M, Ducati Panigale V4 R and Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

As a result, Redding could not break into the top seven in the championship last season, further increasing the riders’ frustration towards the German manufacturer.

“I signed the contract because I wanted to win and they told me they would do what I wanted to win.

“And they made changes. The fork and brakes have changed, but some things will never change and you have to accept that.

“I want to win the championship so are they but maybe selling motorcycles interest them more than winning the World Championship,” he said.

During last week’s two-day test in Jerez, Redding ended the session in 12th place, 1.4s down on Razgatlioglu. He’s currently in Portimao for another round of tests.

There is a rumour ongoing that Honda could be working on a more powerful Honda Fireblade for 2024 which is set to debut in Japan next year.

  • Honda’s rumoured to be working on a “full power” CBR1000RR-R Fireblade.
  • The new Fireblade could make public debut in October 2023 at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Apparently, Honda wants to introduced a ‘final edition’ Fireblade before emissions regulations begin to tighten as reported by Webike.

The latest generation Fireblade introduced in 2020 was considered at the time to be the most powerful, with 215hp on tap. However, the latest iteration was not considered successful as the CBR1000RR-R could not compete with Ducati’s Panigale V4 R, Yamaha’s R1M and Kawasaki’s ZX-10RR at the WorldSBK.

Evidently, Honda has not won a single race in the WorldSBK despite finding success in Japan including winning the Suzuka 8 Hours earlier this year.

That said, Honda wants to return to the front row with a new generation CBR1000RR-R Fireblade ready for 2024, with a public debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2023.

However, the new machine still needs to adhere to the current Euro5 emission standard.

Nevertheless, these are just rumours and no confirmation coming from Honda just yet but it would make sense for Honda to actually working on an even powerful and capable sportsbike.
