VIDEO HARI INI

  • The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 was launched on Malaysia Day.

  • It follows the preview in December last year.

  • It boasts a number of good features.

We were given a preview of the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 in December last year.

Let’s fast forward to the Malaysia Day weekend. Daju Motors Sdn. Bhd., the official TVS distributor for Malaysian and Brunei launched the bike during the Malaysia Day 2019 weekend at the Elite Speedway near USJ.

Member of the media, bloggers and YouTubers were invited to have a go on the bike on the circuit. Where better to test ride than in a controlled and safe environment like the race track.

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Race Edition 2.0 is a lightweight standard bike but is packed with features as a reflection of its “Race Edition” name. Those features put the bike (slightly) ahead of the competition.

They are:

  • A-RT (Anti-Reverse Torque) slipper clutch to limit engine back torque and rear wheel hop when downshifting aggressively. TVS claims an added advantage of 22% lighter clutch lever pull. The Apache RTR 200 is the first bike in its category to be fitted with a slipper clutch.

  • O3C Tech. This is a patented Oil-cooled Combustion Chamber (O3C) tech with ram-air assit to reduce engine heat but up to 10oC.
  • Electronic fuel injection system which utilizes idling air control valve (IACV) and manifold absolute pressure sensor to deliver the optimal amount of fuel. Nothing fancy here except that the Bosch-developed fuel injector features twin spray nozzles for better fuel atomization.

  • Double cradle split chassis.
  • KYB suspension. The rear monoshock is tuned to deliver optimized compression and rebound damping characteristics.

Each journalist was given only five laps of the twisty, narrow and bumpy circuit but the layout favours lightweight bikes such as the Apache.

Our first thought was the tyres were overinflated for the task, which we highlighted to the organizer, but nothing was done. So, we went out there and ended up being trashed around as the tyres hopped over the bumps.

The engine took lots of revving to get going, especially coming around the final turn and onto the front straight. But there was a lot of overrun, thankfully as we carried 2nd gear all the way into Turn One.

But the bike paid back in terms of handling in spades. The narrow tyres and seating position allowed the bike to be thrown around with little effort from the rider. At least the bike tracked exactly where we pointed it, so selecting a line and going after it was easy.

However, if there was one thing which we really liked was the brakes. We only used the front brakes during the track session since it was more than adequate. It may not be branded but it bit down hard and scrubbed off speed without much drama.

The chassis was pretty stiff, but it meant that the bike didn’t weave about like a drunken person.

The bike’s pretty affordable from RM10,950. Give it a test ride and judge for yourself.

  • The 2019 TVS Apache RR 310 was just launched in India.

  • It now has a slipper clutch.

  • A new Phantom Black colour option is also added.

The 2019 TVS Apache RR 310 was just launched in India.

The bike had previously been thought as the “RR” version for the BMW G 310 series, but it turned out to be otherwise.

New for 2019 is a slipper clutch which is starting to be the standard equipment in bikes from 250cc and upwards. A slipper clutch avoids the rear wheel from locking up and hopping during aggressive downshifting. It also allows for smoother corner entries, hence higher mid-corner speeds – something which lightweight motorcycles need.

There was no mention of an assist function, however. Opposite of the slipper function, an assist function squeezes the clutch plates together during acceleration. Consequently, clutch pull is lighter.

A new colour is also available for the 2019 version called “Phantom Black.” The previous year’s paint scheme already includes a black option. However, the 2019 Phantom Black has red stripes, making the bike look racier.

The 312.2cc single-cylinder engine produces 34 hp and 27.3 Nm of torque. Pretty healthy for a single.

We’ve oft-wondered if TVS Malaysia will bring in the Apache RR 310. They ought to if there is enough demand.

TVS Apache 310RR

Meskipun TVS baharu sahaja melancarkan model Apache RR310 namun ia gagal mencapai sasaran penjualan.

TVS APACHE RTR200 4V RACE EDITION 2.0 (Priced from RM 10,950)

TVS pushes this model as a lightweight performance motorcycle. The manufacturer claims that it can accelerate from 0-60 km/h in a commendable 3.9 seconds.

Key features:
  • Oil-cooled, 198cc, single-cylinder, race-derived O3C engine.
  • The engine produces 20.7 bhp at 8,500 RPM and 18.1 Nm of torque at 7,000 RPM.
  • Racing inspired split cradle chassis.
  • Race-tuned KYB monoshock.
  • A-RT Slipper Clutch. TVS calls it the first Anti-Reverse Torque Slipper Clutch in this category.
  • Dual-barrel exhaust.
  • Full-LCD instrument cluster.
  • LED front position lights.
  • Telescopic forks with dual control-valves.

The 20.7 bhp power output is on the high side for a 200cc single-cylinder motorcycle. It should make for a spirited ride since the motorcycle only weighs 141kg, dry.

TVS NEO X3I (Price to be released soon)

The Neo X3i is TVS’s entrant in the moped category where simplicity in maintenance is the important factor. However, the Neo X3i has a few good features that makes it stand out from the crowd.

Key features:
  • Air-cooled, 109.7cc, SOHC, single-cylinder Neo XR 110cc Power Engine.
  • A digital ignition mapping takes care of fuel delivery and combustion.
  • It produces 8.5 bhp at 8,000 RPM and 8.5 NM of torque at a low 4,500 RPM.
  • The 3,500 RPM spread between maximum torque and horsepower ought to make the engine more “flexible,” requiring less gear shifting.
  • The throttle includes a position sensor.
  • Large, body mounted headlamp.
  • iEcono indicator to help rider save fuel.
  • iCharge charging port for electronic devices.

Take a good long look at this bike as it is going to be the base bike for the upcoming BMW baby sports bike – the 313cc sports bike based on the G310R.

Word on the grapevine is suggesting that TVS Motor Company, the same company that assembles the G310R in India, is officially putting this bike into production as the TVS Apache RTR 300.

Based on the BMW G310R, the Apache RTR 300 will be powered by the same 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the G310R. Though both the engine and gearbox will eventually offer unique power figures different from the G310R, in its existing state of tune however, the BMW motor produces 31bhp and 28Nm of torque.

According to Indian website Rush Lane, the final production version of the Apache RTR 300 is expected to retain much of the dramatic bodywork shown in the pictures here as the Akula 310 factory racer concept which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in India. According to Rush Lane, the bike will retain its twin headlamps, tall windshield, chiselled fuel tank, split seats, LED taillights and a stubby exhaust. ABS and sticky tyres could be offered as options.

When it is launched the Apache RTR 300 will take the fight to the KTM RC390, Yamaha R25, Honda CBR250RR and the Kawasaki 250.

The TVS model is unlikely to make it to Malaysia based on current conditions, but we are excited to see the BMW spin-off of this bike. Expected date of arrival in Malaysia will be sometime in the second or third quarter of 2017. As for the name of the bike, how does BMW S310RR sound?
