The limited run of the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary has entered the production phase, as confirmed by the Italian firm.

The special edition Panigale V2 was built to pay homage to Troy Bayliss careers at the Superbike World Championship.

The Panigale V2 is characterized by the combination of livery and graphics inspired by the 996 R that helped Bayliss clinched his maiden win in the 2001 WSBK.

According to Ducati, since the official presentation at WSBK in Assen, the company has received tons of orders, already covering a large part of the production for the coming months.

To better enhance performance on the track, the V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary is fitted with Öhlins NX30 front fork and TTX36 rear shock absorbers.

Moreover, adopting a lithium-ion battery and a single-seat configuration allows the bike to shed off 3 kilograms of weight.

Troy’s number 21 is added on the saddle in white alongside a red and green stripe that makes up the Italian flag.

The Troy Bayliss name will go down in history as one of the gods of motorcycle racing.

In just 12 years of active racing, Bayliss has shattered records and created records that still stand.

Which is fantastic for a person who gave up racing, went into apprenticeship at a local spray painting shop in Australia, then started active racing at the ripe age of 26.

Troy Bayliss is still the only person to ever win a MotoGP and WSB race in the same season.

He also has 52 race wins and 94 podium finishes to his name.

His 52 race wins puts him third in the overall most ever race wins in WSB.

Throughout his career, Troy has almost exclusively raced Ducatis. Save for a couple of Suzukis and Kawasakis early on in his career.

Troy has brought the Italian brand some dazzling race wins, and in honour of that, Ducati has introduced a Troy Bayliss exclusive model.

It is aptly called the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary edition.

But why would Ducati honor one of their greatest riders by dedicating a entry-level superbike instead of the flagship Panigale V4R?

Well, considering that Bayliss won all of his championships on a twin, Ducati thought it fit to honour him with the latest twin-cylinder superbike instead – the Panigale V2.

And boy what a machine it is.

From the outside, the unique Panigale V2 features Troy’s 2001 championship winning graphics with the iconic number 21 displayed proudly on its side – like a proper race bike.

The V2 is of course in red, but it also features a dash of green and white to channel the proud Italian heritage.

Still on the outside, Troy’s signature is displayed proudly on the tank while the triple clamp displays the production number of the bike.

Onto the fun stuff.

To make this unique Panigale V2 even more special, Ducati has replaced the standard Showa forks with Ohlins NX30 forks up front and Ohlins TTX36 shock at the rear.

There’s also an Ohlins sourced steering damper.

Ducati has also replaced the battery of standard V2 with a lithium ion unit and the bike now comes as a single seater.

Sports grip, a titanium and carbon exhaust kit and Troy’s number embroidered in white on the seat alongside the Italian national flag top it all off.

Combined, this limited edition Panigale V2 is 3kg lighter than the standard Panigale V2.

There’s no telling when this model will make it to Malaysia, if ever, but if it does, expect it to be in the RM140,000 – RM180,000 region.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ducati first world title in the 2001 Superbike championship, the Borgo Panigale firm has set up a temporary exhibition, “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” at the Ducati Museum.

The exhibition display new and exclusive content for the fans to get up close to the success of Troy Bayliss at the Superbike championship.

According to Ducati, the date of 21 May, chosen for the reopening of the Ducati Museum, is not accidental.

On this day, 20 years ago, the virtually unknown Troy Bayliss accomplished a feat that turned him overnight into a motorcycling legend in the hearts and memories of all Ducati and Superbike fans; the extraordinary quadruple overtaking move at the Monza circuit.

Interestingly, Bayliss was coming in for the injured Carl Fogarty before Ducati decided to allow him to finish the championship onboard the factory 996R.

In the 2000 season, Bayliss finished sixth in the championship, accumulating 243 points, two wins and seven podiums.

Ducati then awarded a seat in the Ducati Infostrada team, where Bayliss won his first WSBK title in 2001.

Those who visited the Ducati Museum will get to admire all of the Australian rider machines which include:

  • 996 Factory 2000 – his Ducati World SBK debut and used at Monza in the famous quadruple overtake.
  • 996 Factory 2001 Testastretta – his first world title with the livery used at Imola in 2001.
  • 998 Factory Testastretta 2002 – the protagonist of the breathtaking duel with Edwards at Imola.
  • 999 Factory 2006 “Superman” – Ducati’s 250th victory in SBK, and Troy’s second title.
  • 999 Factory 2007 – used in the photo-finish against James Toseland at Assen.
  • 1098 R Factory 2008 – his last title won at Magny-Cours

For those living outside of Europe, you can get a chance to view the exhibition via Ducati Museum Online Journey.

The temporary exhibition “Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion” will remain at the Ducati Museum until 19 September 2021, with the sole exception of the days between 1-4 July, when the bikes will be exhibited in Modena at the 2021 edition of Motor Valley Fest.

2015-ducati-hypermotard-sp-corse-livery-6Based on the company’s own Pikes Peak 1200S Multistrada colour scheme, the Ducati Hypermotard SP was revealed to the public at the World Ducati Week 2014 by World Superbike Champions Troy Bayliss and Carlos Checa.

This bad boy comes with multiple riding modes and eight level-traction controls just to have it transfer the 110hp developed by the 821cc Testastretta engine efficiently to the ground.
A hard task considering that the SP only weights around 171kg which gives it a big boost on its power to weight ratio.

The new colour scheme will be available starting this September.
