Bajaj Auto, an Indian multinational two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturing company, has announced that it will be taking over all sales and service operations for Triumph Motorcycles in India.

  • Bajaj takes over Triumph Motorcycles distributorship in India.
  • The showroom will only be dedicated to selling Triumph bikes.

The move is part of the strategic partnership that was established by the two companies a few years ago. Bajaj and Triumph have also collaborated to co-develop new entry-level mid-capacity Triumph models that will be produced by Bajaj at its Chakan facility.

With this announcement, Triumph’s India operations will now be under Bajaj’s Probiking business. The business will be headed by Sumeet Narang, while Shoebh Farooq, who was previously the business head for Triumph India, has moved to Bajaj’s electric mobility arm, Chetak Technology Ltd.

As part of the partnership, the first new model is expected to launch in 2023, and it is anticipated to arrive in the next few months. Bajaj and Triumph have revealed that the new models will have various displacements ranging between 200 and 700cc.

To accommodate the new Triumph models, the company’s dealer network will be expanded from 15 cities to 120 cities within the next two years. The showrooms will be tiered, with some of them solely dedicated to higher-end bikes developed solely by Triumph and located in India’s biggest cities.

It has been made clear that Bajaj and Triumph-branded motorcycles will not be sold under the same roof. The Triumph operation will remain independent of both Bajaj and KTM, and the showrooms will be exclusive to the brand. The press release also states that “these new showrooms will be created in line with Triumph’s global standards.”

Interestingly, the document reveals that the Tiger 900 GT Aragon Edition is 1.8kg heavier than the Tiger 900 GT Pro while the Tiger 900 Rally Aragon Edition is 3.1kg heavier than the Tiger 900 Pro.

While the certification did not explain the reason behind the extra weight, both Aragon Edition is likely equipped with extra goodies.

Mechanically, both the Tiger 900 GT Pro and Tiger 900 Rally Pro features the same 888cc inline triple.

Triumph has penned a new deal with MotoGP commercial rights holder Dorna Sports to test sustainable fuels that could be used in Moto2 for the 2024 season.

  • Moto2 to move to E40 fuel in 2024.
  • Triumph to test sustainable fuels in Hinckley.

The plan is to have E40 (40 per cent non-fossil) fuel in Moto2 by 2024 and E100 by 2027.

Triumph will conduct the testing programme at the firm’s Hinckley base. The aim is to ensure sustainable fuel can produce the same performance as standard fossil fuels.

According to Triumph, the project further underlines the company’s focus on ensuring that motorcycles can be enjoyed responsibly for many years to come.

“Ultimately, our aim is always to take all the learnings we gain from racing to make our road bikes even better, which of course, encompasses not just performance but also their impact on the environment.

“I can tell you that everybody here at Triumph is very excited to be involved in such significant developments at such a pivotal moment in motorcycle history,” said Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer.

Recently, six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez was in Jarama to test renewable fuels with Repsol after MotoGP was required to meet the E40 standard in 2024.

Repsol also completed a test of renewable fuels with Honda’s trial team riders, Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli.

Triumph Motorcycles officially get things rolling with its motocross and supercross programme after announcing the team personnel involved in the factory team.

  • Triumph announced lineup for US factory racing programme.
  • Booby Hewitt and Steve Westfall to lead the Triumph motocross and supercross programme.

The British manufacturer announced their MXGP World Championship plans back in October, where they will compete in the 2024 season.

In a latest development, Triumph has lineup established names from MXGP history, including Bobby Hewitt as team principal.

Hewitt previously managed the Rockstar Husqvarna team that won the regional and national championship indoor and out including 250MX, 450MX and 450SX.

Also in the lineup is Steve Westfall, who is named as the factory team manager alongside Dave Arnold – former HRC team manager back in the 80s – who will take charge the chassis development.

Triumph also recruited Dudley Cramond who has worked on GP projects including with Honda and Aprilia to lead the powertrain development.

“I have no doubt, knowing the experience and capability shared between our dedicated in-house design and engineering teams, and Bobby’s hand selected team of racing experts, that this partnership will make an indelible mark on the history of this incredible sport and Triumph’s illustrious brand,” said Nick Bloor, CEO of Triumph Motorcycles.

That being said, Triumph is yet to reveal the race bike to take on the 250SX, 250MX and MX2 World Championship classes, but since the competition is one year away there’s still time for development.

One way or another, a competition ready machine will make its debut soon thanks to a fully committed and experienced recruitment.

Didi Automotive has been announced as the new distribution partner for Triumph Motorcycles for the Malaysian market, effective from January 15, 2023.

  • Didi Automtive takes over Triumph Motorcycles distributorship.
  • New Triumph showroom facility will be set up in Petaling Jaya and Penang.

That said, Didi Automotive will manage the importation, sales and distribution of Triumph Motorcycles including expanding  the British brand in the market.

Ensuring the brand will continue to grow, Didi Automotive will set up a new Triumph showroom in Petaling Jaya and Penang that offers state-of-the-art facilities, trained personnel and top quality Service, After Sales and Customer Care.

However, since the previous Triumph distributor has set the bar high, it’ll be a daunting task for Didi Automotive to established the same or better customer experience.

“Didi Group is glad to be entrusted with the representation of Triumph in Malaysia and we will do our upmost to deliver the best ownership lifestyle experience for existing and new owners in accordance with the Triumph standard with a local touch.

“At Didi, we believe in creating mobility lifestyle solutions beyond just selling and servicing motorcycles. We look forward to connecting with you digitally and inviting you to the doors of our new refresh network soon,” said Rewi Hamid Bugo, Chairman Didi Group Malaysia.

Fast Bikes Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Triumph Motorcycles in Malaysia, will end its distributorship with the UK brand on January 14, 2023.

  • Fast Bike ceases Triumph distributorship in Malaysia.
  • Fast Bike’s Petaling Jaya headquarters is to undergo two months of renovation beginning in January.

The announcement was made during a recent Triumph Ratpack Year-End Gathering and High-Tea session at Fast Bike’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

However, under the leadership of Dato’ Razak Al Malique, Fast Bikes will take on a new adventure in 2023 as a Honda Big Wing dealership.

Meanwhile, Fast Bike’s outlets in Penang, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu also end their Triumph operation on the same date.

That said, a new Triumph distributor for Malaysia has been appointed pending an official announcement.

While the news may be shocking, current Triumph owners continue to shower support on Fast Bike’s management for their support all these years.

The Covid-19 pandemic might have delayed the Triumph-Bajaj motorcycle project over the last three years but with things are moving positively these days, the motorcycle is is getting closer for its global debut.

  • Bajaj-produced Triumph motorcycle could roll out to production soon.
  • Latest test-mule hints at more than one variant.

The Bajaj-produced Triumph first made an appearance back in February with the test mule sported with a single-cylinder engine.

At the time, there’s no confirmation regarding the bike’s variants but latest spy shot from India’s Bike Dekho confirms that the upcoming Triumph-Bajaj motorcycle could comes in two different trims.

That’s because, the latest test mule features wire-spoked wheels as opposed to the former that is shod with 17-inch alloy wheels.

Interestingly, the latest test mule also features hand guards and a high-mounted front fender.

That said, the test mule is likely to be a scrambler version of Triumph-Bajaj’s upcoming motorcycle but since both parties is yet to confirm this, it’s best to leave it to our imagination.

One thing for sure, the highly anticipated motorcycle from Triumph-Bajaj partnership should arrive by 2023.

The Triumph Rocket 3 is already a beast, not because it packs a 2,458cc three-cylinder engine, but because the behemoth cruiser also churns out 164.7hp and 220Nm.

  • TTS Performance developed a supercharger kit for Triumph’s Rocket 3.
  • The supercharged Rocket 3 TFT pumps out more than 300hp.

If that wasn’t enough, the good lad at Hinckley rolled out the TFC trim that produces 179hp and 224Nm.

However, Britain’s TTS Performance might disagree with you if you think that’s already a considerable power for the beastly cruiser. That’s because the power-hungry firm decided to inject the Rocket 3 TFC with a Rotrex C30-94 Supercharger.

Dubbed as the Rocket 300, the supercharged version now pumps out a whopping 340hp and 366Nm.

As usual, the crazy idea came from TTS frontman Richard Albans after he previously made headlines with a supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa that produces 372hp.

Fortunately, TTS has detuned the Rocket 300 to 300hp for the street, allowing for better control for anyone who might not share the same level of craziness as Albans.

Nevertheless, TTS has already sold ten supercharger kits for the Rocket 3, with five more currently developing.

That said, the supercharger kit retails for GBP 8,000 (RM43.2k). If you think your current Rocket 3 needs to be more powerful, go ahead and give the supercharger kit a go.

Because why not?

What’s new for 2023?

The R now makes 2hp more than the previous generation, with the power output rated at 118hp. However, the RS now boasts 128hp thanks to the higher compression ratio and new engine internals.

That said, the engine now houses new pistons, new connecting rods and redesigned combustion chamber, all contributing to the higher peak power.

In addition, the 2023 Triumph Street Triple range also features a new gearbox with a revised gear ratio.

Spec-wise, the 2023 Street Triple comes with lots of goodies, with the R variant boasting Brembo M4 brake callipers and a fully-adjustable suspension courtesy of Showa.

Meanwhile, the up-spec RS gets a Showa 41mm USD big piston forks and Ohlins piggyback rear shock. On the other hand, the Moto2 Edition gets Ohlins 43mm fully adjustable forks and rear shocks.

All three models also received a new electronic package, including refined cornering ABS, traction control and 4+1 riding modes; Road, Rain, Sport, Rider and Track (only available on the RS/Moto2 Edition).

Pricing and availability

MForce Bike Holdings Sdn Bhd recently launched the new MForce Smart Shop SH Bikers showroom in Sri Kembangan.

  • Brixton Cromwell 1200 is to be available in Malaysia soon.
  • Features 1200cc two-cylinder engine capable of producing 80hp and 110Nm.

During the launch, MForce also previewed the all-new Brixton Cromwell 1200 from Brixton Motorcycles.

For those not in the loop, Brixton Motorcycles is a brand owned by Austrian-based KSR Group. However, the manufacturing plant is located in China to ensure the brand remains affordable for the global market.

Nevertheless, the Brixton Cromwell 1200 (codename GK1200) first appeared at the 2021 EICMA show in Milan.

The Cromwell 1200 is equipped with a 1,222cc parallel-twin SOCH liquid-cooled engine capable of pushing around 83hp @ 6,500rpm and peak torque of 110Nm @ 3,000rpm.

The retro machine adopts the same basic design as the iconic Triumph Bonneville, with a circular headlight, flat seat, spoke wheels and two long chrome exhausts running parallel to the ground.

Mechanically, the Cromwell 1200 features KYB suspension, Nissin brakes, Bosch electronics including ABS, traction control and multiple riding modes.

It also packs with full LED light setup and a TFT display.

The bike is also fitted with cruise control, making it suitable for a long trip.

According to MForce, the bike is still in testing stages and is currently undergoing an endurance test to ensure it passes all the requirements before being put on sale in Malaysia.

The Brixton Cromwell 1200 is said to be available for around RM50k once it is officially launched in Malaysia.

Triumph-Bajaj’s upcoming motorcycle was caught doing rounds for the first time back in February 2022.

  • The upcoming motorcycle could feature between 250cc to 500cc powertrain.
  • features Bonneville inspired components including tanks, headlamp and dash.

At the time, some spy shots were shared online, and we could see that the upcoming Baby Triumph would not be based on the Trident 660 or any of the Hinckley’s naked range; instead, the test mule looked similar to the firm’s Bonneville lineup, albeit a smaller one.

However, in the latest exclusive images shared by MCN, we can now take a closer look at Triumph-Bajaj’s first fruit of marriage.

These spy shots of Triumph’s ‘baby Bonneville’ look similar to the test mule seen earlier this year.

According to MCN, these photos were captured not far from Triumph’s Hinckley headquarters, hinting that it is in a later stage of testing and could be launched soon.

Triumph is tight-lipped on the bike’s engine capacity, but numerous reports suggest the affordable ‘baby Bonneville’ could range between 250cc to 500cc.

Based on the finishing, the new motorcycle indeed inherent Triumph styling cue and quality, with Bajaj lending a helping hand in developing the engine. As a result, while it could be Triumph’s most affordable motorcycle in its stable, they are not going to be as ‘cheap’ as you might think.

Moreover, you can easily capture various components inspired by the bigger Bonneville, including the tank, chrome filler cap, blacked-out engine cases, tubular frame, and round headlamp.

Meanwhile, we expect Triumph to roll out the new range in 2023.
