  • A new Triumph Speed Triple 1160 is rumoured.

  • The new bike will challenge the streetfighter segment.

  • The larger capacity is also in preparation for Euro5.

Triumph is on the roll with a whole line of new models. Now, we hear rumours of a new Triumph Speed Triple 1160.

It was the Speed Triple which began the factory-built streetfighter and hooligan bike segment, and the current Speed Triple 1050 is the best handling streetfighter, hands down. However, her rivals have taken the capacity war up the scale. Think Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4, BMW S 1000 R, Ducati Monster 1200, upcoming Ducati Streetfighter V4, KTM 1290 Super Duke R. So, it’s only natural that the Speed Triple goes big-bo’-hospowah’.

But Triumph always build bikes that are sensible and well-rounded, hence 1160cc, instead of going completely bonkers like 1300cc. Well, they’ve got the new 2500cc Rocket 3 for that, anyway.

To arrive at 1160cc, the current bore will be increased by 4mm to 83mm while retaining the 71.4mm stroke. The current 1050cc engine produces 148 hp, hence the upgrade should see 160 to 170 hp.

The capacity hike is also likely to counter any loss of performance resulting from Euro5 compliance.

We can should be other upgrades/revisions, as well. First revision ought to be the frame which has stayed the same since 2011 (that shows you how far forward Triumph’s chassis designers er… design their stuff). We’re confident that the new frame will retain the Speed Triple’s nimble and confidence-inspiring handling whatever comes out.

Electronics will be upgraded, of course. One could look forward to IMU-assisted lean angle sensitive traction control and ABS. Also, an instrument console with GoPro controls and navigation similar to the one on the Scrambler 1200 XC/XE will definitely be there.

Apart from that, there ought to be different variants such as the Street Triple 765, although we wouldn’t know if they’re going to be two or three versions.

Anyway, we’re looking forward to seeing the new bike at EICMA 2019.

  • Triumph is already past midway in their first season of supplying engines to Moto2 teams.

  • The engines have held up well despite the abuse.

  • Since then we’ve seen records smashed and closer racing.

The story of Triumph in Moto2 has been a success so far after more than halfway into their inaugural season.

Triumph began supplying engines to Moto2 teams this year, taking over from Honda who powered the bikes for the last nine seasons. In a way, it’s Triumph’s first Grand Prix season since the brand’s start 121 years ago in 1898.

This year, we’ve seen multiple Moto2 records fall and racing is a lot closer (behind Alex Marquez, that is). Then news came of Nicolo Bulega going past 300 km/h during practice at the Italian Grand Prix.

Hitting that speed in the engine’s first season is an amazing feat all by itself.

The engines began as the 765cc three-cylinder from the new Street Triple, then prepared and maintained by ExternPro. ExternPro also prepared the Honda CBR600 inline-Four engines previously. The engine received some upgrades for racing, but the overall architecture and most parts are the same as the road bike’s.

Triumph Street Triple RS

A three-cylinder engine produces more low-end and midrange torque than an inline-Four of equal displacement. But the 765’s larger displacement already provides more grunt, anyway. That’s why we kept seeing riders catching back up after making a mistake.

The factory has since learned much from their Moto2 venture. For example, how the riders trash the powerplant. The engine has a 14,000 RPM limiter on upshifts, but there’s no limiter on the downshift side. That’s why they regularly saw revs exceeding 15,200 RPM during aggressive downshifts.

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer revealed that the riders who abuse the engines aren’t the top guys. Data from those leading the championship such as Alex Marquez and Thomas Luthi showed that they don’t overrev the engine and are much smoother in their operation.

On the other hand, the abusive riders assume they’re riding hard by downshifting even when the throttle was pinned fully open.

ExternPro receives all the data from the bikes and flags the offenders. The company then talks to the riders caught doing so. But habits die hard, so ExternPro imposed downshift RPM limiters beginning Brno, Czech Republic. Riders who continue to exceed the limiter will be fined.

The engines have held up amazing well, despite all the abuse.

Trevor Morris of ExternPro continued, “We’ve done 100 engine rebuilds and the gearboxes don’t even look like they’ve be run in. The Nikasil-coated cylinders look brand new when we strip each engine after 1500 km (every three rounds).”

1500 km are peanuts for roadbikes, but roadbike engines don’t reside in the redline all the time.

There was no mechanical breakdown so far, lending a solid testament to the engine’s steadfast reliability.

Triumph’s Moto2 project hopes to bring the experience into developing their future line-up of motorcycles. While it’s natural that racing begets sportbikes, the data obtained could serve to develop designs, components, parts, etc. that will provide more performance and reliability to owners.

Of course, many hoped that it will result in a new range of sportbikes, but the Hinckley-based manufacturer had stopped producing the Daytona for a number of years now, as the sportbike market had shrunk tremendously. On the other hand, the factory announced the 2020 Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition recently. The engine is still based on the Street Triple’s but will be upgraded for more performance.

It’ll be revealed at the British MotoGP round on 25th August. We can’t wait to see it!

  • A new Triumph Tiger was caught undergoing tests recently.

  • The new bike looks new altogether.

  • It should be unveiled at EICMA in November, at the earliest.

A new Triumph Tiger was caught undergoing tests recently.

It’s no secret that our favourite bikes include the Triumph Tiger 800 lineup (the 800 XRx and 800 XCx). The current third generation family features more than 300 revisions and new components from their predecessor, making it not only the best adventure bikes, but among the best of all motorcycles we’ve ever ridden.

We wondered what how Triumph could improve on the second generation during the third generation’s launch and we wonder again now as the fourth generation is being tested.

Well, the pictures (credit to RideApart.com) shows a bike which seems to be completely reworked, possibly from the ground up!

There are rumours circulating that the engine will be bumped up to 900cc. Such “displacement creed” is inevitable, given the new and more restrictive Euro5 regulations on emissions. Adhering to the current displacement would mean loss of performance. Also, Triumph’s rivals such as BMW Motorrad and now Moto Guzzi have introduced 850cc models into this highly competitive segment.

Let’s go back to the pictures. The styling retains the Tiger 800 DNA but the front has been made smaller, but the flanks around the fuel tank remain. Check out the new radiator shrouds.

We reckon the bike to be the flagship XCa configuration. The front Brembo brakes calipers and suspension definitely look high end.

Moving backwards, the whole bike seemed to have been revised.

The frame looks new and so does the subframe. The passenger footpeg looks more elegant and are attached to the subframe via bolts, rather than being welded on. That’s great news for off-road riders!

The seats look flatter and hopefully they are Triumph Comfort Seats. Those are the best in the ADV world. That passenger grab rail is huge and is a welcomed feature, especially if you install hard luggage and need to push the bike around.

Its tail end also has a new styling, breaking away from the dual vertical brake light tradition.

Moving downwards, the exhaust silencer looks similar to the current one but it certainly looks bigger on this bike. Remember, Euro5 doesn’t only put a cap on engine emissions but also noise. A bigger silencer er… silences better.

The swingarm is likewise new – the most visible feature being that slot. The rear brake caliper’s mounting is also different. The rear shock’s linkage remains the same for a more progressive damping characteristic.

Well, that’s as much conclusion as we could draw from a few photographs. The new Triumph Tiger ought to be unveiled at EICMA in November, earliest.

  • The Triumph Rocket 3 R and Triumph Rocket 3 GT were unveiled after many teasers.

  • The pair has a new 2500cc engine which produces 165 bhp and 221 Nm of torque.

  • It will challenge for the power cruiser title.

First, they had our tongues hanging out for the Triumph Rocket 3 TFC, and now they’ve unleashed the Triumph Rocket 3 R and Triumph Rocket 3 GT!

The two new bikes show a great departure from the staid styling of the previous Rocket 3, as Triumph positions them to challenge for the power cruiser crown. You definitely can’t do so with the styling of the old bike, can you?

Anyway, the new Rocket 3 has a new 2500cc three-cylinder engine, up from 2300cc. That capacity increase cements Triumph’s hold on the “biggest production engine” record. But it isn’t an entry in the record books that the Hinckley-based manufacturer is seeking.

The new engine produces 165 bhp at 6,000 RPM and 221 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM. These figures are impressive if not eye-popping. An engine which finds its maximum torque at just 4,000 RPM means it will accelerate like a jet plane. Currently, no other gasoline-powered production motorcycle matches the Rocket 3’s torque. Only the electric Lightning LS-218 produces the same figure!

As such, Triumph claims that the new Rocket 3 punches off the line from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.79 seconds. That’s superbike territory, yo!

The manufacturer didn’t just overbore the old lump but made many revisions. They reduced circulating mass by 18kg resulting in a higher redline.

Triumph Rocket 3 R

The frame was likewise changed. It’s now aluminium with a central spine that bolts around the engine. That central spine is hollow and doubles up as the airbox.

Doing so saved another 22kg, thus added to the 18kg shaved from the engine results in a 40kg lighter bike.

Suspension consists of 47mm diameter Showa forks and fully-adjustable rear shock with piggyback reservoir. The front brakes utilize Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers like those on the Ducati Panigale V4 and Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory. The rear tyre goes up in size to 240mm.

Electronics are top-notch too, including the Inertial Measurement Unit from Continental which provides lean-angle sensitive ABS and traction control. There are four riding modes including Sport, Road, Rain and rider configurable fourth one.

But what’s the difference between the “R” and “GT”? The former is the sportier model, with a lower windscreen. The GT, on the other hand, has a bigger windscreen and passenger backrest.

Triumph Rocket 3 GT

How much? We have to wait for pricing when they arrive at Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia.

  • Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition is confirmed for 2020.

  • The engine is based on the Street Triple RS’s but upgraded for more power.

  • Triumph will only produce a very limited number.

At last! The new Triumph Daytona 765 is confirmed! Capitalizing on their role as sole engine supplier in Moto2, Triumph will build the Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition for 2020.

According to MCN.com, the bike will be available for Asia, Europe, the US and Canada. However, there are two versions: One for Asia and Europe, and another for the US and Canada. Triumph stated that there will be only 765 units available for each market.

The production number of each bike will be laser etched on the top triple clamp.

The engine Triumph supplies to Moto2 teams began life as the same powerplant in the Street Triple RS (765). The stock engine produces 121 hp, but it’s bumped up to more than 138 hp with just a small number of upgrades for Moto2. This street version, on the other hand, should be good for 130 to 135 hp.

Other Moto2-inspired goodies include the titanium Arrow exhaust which looks exactly like that used in the series; new TFT screen with Moto2 welcome message; five ride modes including track mode; and quickshifter.

The Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition will be officially unveiled at the British MotoGP round at Silverstone on 23rdAugust.

  • Jeremais Israel is set to rock GIVI Rimba Raid at Janda Baik 2019 on the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE.

  • Jeremais was a works HRC rider in the Dakar Rally.

  • The Scrambler 1200 XE had finished fifth overall at the recent Mexican 1000 Rally.

Chilean Dakar Rally and off-road racer, Jeremais Israel is set to rock GIVI Rimba Raid at Janda Baik 2019 on the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE.

The rider was present at Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia this morning to receive the bike and prep it. He will be using the #09 number plate in the race. Jeremais was specially flown in by GIVI to compete in Rimba Raid. He will also conduct a special off-road riding clinic tomorrow morning at Ukay Perdana.

The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE is a true-blood off-road bike, dressed up in the classic Bonneville body. It’s inspired by the TR6 Trophy ridden by Steve McQueen and his stuntman Bud Ekins to a number of wins in the Baja 1000 Rally.

It features long-travel fully-adjustable Öhlins suspension, cross-spoke wheels, engine crash bars, under-engine skid plate, bark-buster style hand protectors as standard. The electronics are also geared towards off-road performance, although the bike rides pretty well over paved roads, too.

British stunt rider Ernie Vigil had proven the bike’s toughness and ability to duke it out with 450cc dirtbikes in the Mexican 1000 Rally recently. He finished fifth overall on a bog-stock bike.

Jeremais will also be riding a fully stock bike in GIVI Rimba Raid.

  • The stolen Triumph Tiger 1200 test bike was been returned early this morning.

  • The bike was returned by the thief’s father and brother.

  • We were informed that he had done so on a number of prior occasions.

As a follow-up of the Triumph Tiger 1200 test bike stolen yesterday, Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia informed us that the motorcycle was returned early this morning. Triumph also wishes to extend their appreciation to those who shared the news.

The miscreant signed up for a test ride yesterday afternoon at around 3.46pm, but did not return after six hours. Thousands of netizens shared the news in social media.

We were then informed just after 1am that the thief’s father and older brother returned the motorcycle.

There were also netizens who pointed us to the person who rode off with the bike, and we were informed that this person Bro Superbike has done such a thing many times previously. His previous alleged crimes included driving off in his colleague’s car, plus a number of test bikes. Each time, his father and brother returned the vehicle.

His Facebook page shows him on a 2018 BMW S 1000 RR, and purporting to being affiliated to the S 1000 RR and Yamaha MT-07 owners groups in Malaysia and Singapore. There was only 1 posting in that FB account on 13th June 2019, calling on buyers if they are interested in purchasing a superbike.

The case is now handled by the police.

In our personal opinion, provided that he committed the alleged crimes before, this man is a pathological thief and requires rehabilitation.

  • Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia launched two limited-edition models today, namely the Triumph Bonneville T120 Diamond Edition and the Triumph Bonneville T120 Ace Café.

  • The Bonneville T120 Diamond Edition celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 1959 Bonneville T120.

  • The Bonneville T120 Ace Café celebrates the birthplace of café racers, on the other hand.

Triumph Motorcycles Malaysia launched two limited-edition models today, namely the Triumph Bonneville T120 Diamond Edition and the Triumph Bonneville T120 Ace Café.

Both are special commemorative models and were launched as a pair earlier this year. Although they  are Bonnie T120 twins, each boasts distinctively different stylistic cues, lending to that good twin/bad twin adage.

The duo are powered by the 1200cc, liquid-cooled, HT (High Torque) parallel-Twin which features a 270o crankshaft spacing.

Triumph Bonneville T120 Diamond Edition – From 74,900

It’s called the Diamond Edition because it commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Bonneville, which made its appearance in 1959 Bonneville T120. The “T120” name is hallowed in Triumph’s history as it was the first bike to hit 115 mph (185 km/h) in stock form and 120 mph (192 km/h) with slight modifications.

Highlights:
  • Premium one-off Snowdonia Whie and Aluminium Silver “Union Flag” on the gas tank.

  • Unique T120 Diamond side panel branding.
  • Chrome 4-bar Triumph badges on the gas tank.
  • Chrome cylinder head cover, cooling fins, crankcase covers, badges and chain guard.

  • Only 900 will be built.
  • Each owner will receive a special certificate signed by Triumph CEO, Nick Bloor.
  • Only 4 units are available to customers in Malaysia.

Triumph Bonneville T120 Ace Café – From RM 75,900

The legendary Ace Café in London is considered the birthplace of the café racer. Legend has it that the riders there will challenge each other to race on a street circuit and return to the venue before a song ends on the jukebox. Hence, probably why the bike is “blacked out” for that mean, stripped down, hopped-up and “Head Down – Hold On” attitude.

Features:
  • One-off Matt Storm Grey paint scheme with racing stripes.
  • Ace Café logo on the front mudguard and side panels.
  • “Head Down – Hold On” detailing on the fuel tank.

  • Blacked-out detailing throughout.
  • Black four-bar Triumph badge on the gas tank.
  • Black bench seat.

  • Only 1,400 units will be built.
  • Each owner will receive a special certificate signed by Ace Café Managing Director Mark Wilsmore and Triumph CEO Nick Bloor.

Triumph Malaysia menerusi Fastbikes Sdn Bhd, memperkenalkan dua model baharu sempena ulangtahun ke-60 jenama Bonneville.
